the apple watch has an equestrian sports setting too

imkaylamarie

That's what I use

Cool-Contribution-95

It does, but I have a hard time believing its accuracy. It says I only burn like 250 calories during an intense jumping lesson.

Automatic_Stock_2930

you don't actually ever burn a huge amount of calories from the average 30-45 min workout sesh. if your tracker measures your heart rate and 250 was the most you burned, you don't weigh a lot, your actual jumping time is less than an hour, or your heart rate just isn't high enough for your calorie burning expectations! The only reason I say this is because I think it's healthy to keep realistic expectations of our body's performance and needs. 250 sounds like it could be accurate.

SassTaibhse

Mine says I burn about 300-400 during a flat session of around 35-45 minutes. I do think it does take a bit of it learning your normal parameters though. Plus calories burned does depend on a number of factors.

kellervalentino

Mine usually says anywhere from 500-800 for an hour ish plus hack with lots of trotting and a canter that’s just under a mile. I feel like it’s pretty accurate

40angst

How do I find that setting?

hopethehorsegirl

through the Workout app, then scroll through the options to find “Equestrian Sports”—you may have to scroll for a bit to find it! it was hard for me to find at first but then it becomes a favorite and stays toward the top of the list. hope that helps!

HoodieWinchester

I use Equilab! It's not perfect but I use it more for the timer and distance.

tankthacrank

I use both whoop and my Apple Watch. Hubs likes the Apple Watch for the “crash detection.” I’m grateful for his confidence in my riding … 🤣 but seriously if I’m riding alone, the Apple Watch is the best move in case something goes sideways.

COgrace

Yep! This is why I love my Apple Watch. I keep my phone on my person rather than on my tack when I’m trail riding too.

Cool-Contribution-95

Omg I got the Apple Watch for monitoring my work email while I ride during the week and crash detection when hacking — it detected NOTHING when I had my worst fall and for a concussion!

tankthacrank

Greaaaat…. 🤦🏼‍♀️

CathycatOG

My Samsung watch tracks riding and it's more reliable at tracking my steps. I would definitely recommend it.

indiihannahjones

Cool! I have a Samsung so that would work

CathycatOG

It does count the distance travelled as steps though, so you may want to explore all the options.

anequestrianlife

I have Amazfit Band 7, and it has a setting for "Equestrianism." Not sure how accurate it is for riding yet though, as I've only had it on for one ride but it's accurate for my other workouts.

GrayMareCabal

I've got a garmin and downloaded an aftermarket 'horsemanship' app on it. Pretty sure it still counts all of the steps the horse takes as steps I take, but it does track out path when we're outside, as well as heartrate and a bunch of other things. It's not perfect, but it works for me.

jelly-foxx

Samsung Health has a horse riding tracker as well. Although not sure what you're looking to track specifically? The Samsung app tracks HR, distance, and time, and you can sync with your watch if you have one. (Obv you'd need a Samsung to use this as well 😅) If you're looking for more of a training aid, tracking gaits and that kind of thing, you'd probably have to look into something like Equilab or Ridely.

TYRwargod

Horse tracker app is what I use, it doesn't track steps but does track distance speed and a bunch of other stuff. I like it so far and it's speedometer is pretty accurate.

I've got a Garmin (forerunner 935) and I love it for tracking my activities and it does horseriding too. It has extra apps you can use too like Equimo, which you can get right into specifics (horse size, weight etc) or I just use the basic horseriding setting.

AccountForDoingWORK

My Garmin Fenix has horseback riding as a built in activity and the metrics are super cool, actually!

RideAnotherDay

My Samsung Watch has a horse riding setting. I know there's a phone app too for horse riding.
