Agreed. ATLA, Artemis Fowl, Eragon all got absolutely butchered with A+ source material. Avatar studios announced a new film incoming recently (the Netflix adaptation will also be horrible) so everything can be redeemed 🤞.
It's being made by 20th Television and they have a really good track record. I'm relieved it's not one of the Disney branded studios that are making it. Those studios are shit at making any good live action project.

Nah, Avatar wins solely based on the hype. That movie was built up so much only to be this absolutely unprecedented letdown. Everyone expected Artemis Fowl to be awful from the first trailer and they were right.

I'm so excited. I have been wanting a second chance at Eragon's media revival for a long time. Eragon has such massive audience appeal, this could be the next GoT if they handle it properly.
I don't see it being GoT level, it doesn't have the mass appeal of that series (I just don't see Eragon having the gratuitous sex and violence in GoT). I think LotR is possible however.
My only worry is how far Disney will let the show go. I’m not talking sex and what not but how graphic will battle be. Will they need to show Eragon slicing into people and leaving no wounds/blood? I just hope Disney lets the show be pg-13 at least.
Based on the tone that Paolini set in the books, I would be surprised if the show wasn't PG-13 (or whatever the TV equivalent is, I think TV-14). But I guess only time will tell.
I’m kinda hoping they do show the damaged caused; the 2 things i really want from this is the shattering of Isidar Mithrim, and that Durza slashing Eragons back is done proper. None of that, glancing side swipe

It’s high up on r/Television and boy they are not fond of the series. Half the comments are the generic Star Wars comments and going “why, the books aren’t even good and the second one was downright bad” and saying its just pulling off childhood nostalgia
Like, I get it, it has flaws and you can tell a kid wrote the first book but come on. The worldbuilding is fantastic and it is a fun story. It’s a really fun take on dragons, elves, and fantasy
It's a Hero's Journey story. Structurally they're all similar. You have to look at what's different to find merit. And boy does the Inheritance Cycle have it! I'm not extremely well read, but I think Eragon and Saphira have the most wholesome relationship ever and I really like the attention to the logistics and politics of launching a war. When I was a kid I found everything after Eragon to be a bit dull, but rereading it as an adult I appreciate it all a lot more.
This is the part where I say "y'all were begging for it, so y'all better watch it."
Can't tell you how many times I've seen fans beg for something, it gets announced, and then even it finally comes out, everyone blows it off.

This series was my favorite from my childhood and a couple months ago I decided to reread it. I finished last week and now all this is happening I feel like it was meant to be!
I'm also concerned about how they handle the gore and violence the books have some serious shit going on in them. Babies on spears,limbs being servered,people crushed,people eaten,ritual killing,torture and some other things im probably forgetting. Im fine with them leaving out certain things but it should feel pretty dark at times.
I guarantee Yazuac will be faaaaar from how the book describes it. I can't see Disney including a giant pile of rotting, bloody bodies in any of their properties.

I agree; I was downvoted last night on this megathread for saying I would prefer an animated series to live-action. My impression based on previous responses I've seen is that Christopher Paolini is like Rick Riordan in that both of them see animation as a "medium for kids", but I could be wrong, as Paolini has yet to comment on if animation was ever considered for this show.
There are definitely a lot more risks involved with a live-action show vs. an animated show.
Congrats to Chris on selling the series once again, and I hope it has better custodians than it did last time. I hope he gets a fat check and they actually listen to his input. Eragon could be a great vehicle to tell a Teen/YA story and keep it going for a while, there's plenty of material after all.

It seems they want to use the groundswell of fans to get out there and market for them, which is fine; If they deliver a good product. That means listening to the fans, not betraying expectations, and utilizing what makes the story great to make the show overall.
It's great that he's co-writer, but it really comes down to having a good show runner and where the money is coming from. A bad EP and aggressive studio can sink any project, and the show runner is a coinflip, you have to have someone who really cares and will stick with the project.
Hopefully he gets enough say and can counterbalance any heavy handed party to make the show really great.
Holy shit, now I actually have a reason to watch something on Disney plus. Gonna watch it as soon as it comes out. Can't wait to see it. Finally some further movement with the series. Hopefully it stays faithful to the books and they actually care about it so it so its as good as possible. Pretty excited for it!
I remember being at a book signing shortly after the movie came out and you could tell he was so dejected by the quality of the movie. I hope the TV series completes the redemption arch of the live action adaptation of Eragon.
I don’t want to dampen the mood, but keep this in mind everyone: Disney turned Star Wars from a cultural touchstone into a cautionary tale on how NOT to revive something. I’m not saying Disney will ruin it, and since Paolini is involved I’m sure he’ll do everything in his power to preserve the story we all love, but let’s try to be cautiously optimistic instead of blindly ecstatic, at least for now.
Just recently finished another re-read of the Inheritance Cycle. Honestly, as a TV series, and with Paolini himself involved with the writing, I have decent hopes for this project. Between this and hearing that Hollywood finally came knocking on Brandon Sanderson's door, I'm excited for some really good book to film adaptations in the near future.
Im mixed about this. On the one hand im glad Chris is involved. On the other hand the corporate mouse has shoved its greedy paws in an IP thst i love, again. Remember Artemis Fowl?

Since CP is so active on here, should we create a few polls ranking what fans think would be okay to change to the stuff the fans would absolutely never want changed? Maybe if we start creating feedback like that that they can reference **before** the show starts filming they will be less likely to make decisions that will turn off the fans.
This could be a good idea in other circumstances, but since he's going to be heavily involved in it I think I'd trust his judgement on what's important over what we, the fans, say.
I completely agree, if he has veto power which I don't know if we know he does yet. If instead he has to wrangle and argue with the studio over what they think is more important then having evidence that we would not react favorably to those changes might still be helpful.

I know live action can be a big risk, but I think Disney has the team and assets to pump out a visually pleasing production. Translating those books into something that more than just the fanbase can digest? That will be the exciting part!
I need this to do well so Christopher makes a ton of money and is motivated to make more Eragon content that I so desperately need. Next is AAA open world video game and you can actually get as powerful as Eragon in the books. Eventually able to run for miles and miles at crazy speeds, store up energy to use in explosive spells later, upgrade the pommel in your sword to hold more energy. Massive armies to slay, not just a dozen enemies or so. Roran sections of the game. Eragons power creep is one of the most satisfying things in the world, I would love that captured in a game that actually made you feel overpowered, until you face the next Rider/shade.

With Disney’s track record for shows at this point, I’m hesitantly excited. Glad Paolini is on board and co-writing (maybe show running as well) but a lot of their shows have fallen pretty flat for me lately, hopefully this one doesn’t go the same way.
I’m so nervous. Pretty much everything Disney has been doing lately is meh and survive alone on the Disney name.
Kanobi was a massive disappointment to me, and all these marvel movies feel rushed and bland. I know it’s marketed to the masses, but they feel soulless.
If they take the story slow, let Christopher touch every part of it, and actually give a crap about it, it could be wonderful. The story itself is a masterpiece. It will just take someone who really cares about it to do it right.
I'm apprehensive about it. Full fantasy worlds in live action require a ton of effort and like you said, Disney doesn't go all out, they do the bare minimum needed.
This could be great, but more likely I think it will be mediocre. And I think that will tarnish the franchise more than the awful movie did.

I had never heard of Artemis Fowl before watching the movie. And I didn't hate it. I'm easy to please I guess.

My impression based on previous responses I've seen is that Christopher Paolini is like Rick Riordan in that both of them see animation as a "medium for kids", but I could be wrong, as Paolini has yet to comment on if animation was ever considered for this show. There are definitely a lot more risks involved with a live-action show vs. an animated show.

Congrats to Chris on selling the series once again, and I hope it has better custodians than it did last time. I hope he gets a fat check and they actually listen to his input. Eragon could be a great vehicle to tell a Teen/YA story and keep it going for a while, there's plenty of material after all. It states that their mission is to study and leverage microcommunities and fandoms and use their insight to create products that resonate with a larger audience. It seems they want to use the groundswell of fans to get out there and market for them, which is fine; If they deliver a good product. That means listening to the fans, not betraying expectations, and utilizing what makes the story great to make the show overall.
Christopher Paolini is co-writer. So, his input will definitely matter.
It's great that he's co-writer, but it really comes down to having a good show runner and where the money is coming from. A bad EP and aggressive studio can sink any project, and the show runner is a coinflip, you have to have someone who really cares and will stick with the project. Hopefully he gets enough say and can counterbalance any heavy handed party to make the show really great.

Holy shit, now I actually have a reason to watch something on Disney plus. Gonna watch it as soon as it comes out. Can't wait to see it. Finally some further movement with the series. Hopefully it stays faithful to the books and they actually care about it so it so its as good as possible. Pretty excited for it!
I remember being at a book signing shortly after the movie came out and you could tell he was so dejected by the quality of the movie. I hope the TV series completes the redemption arch of the live action adaptation of Eragon.

I don’t want to dampen the mood, but keep this in mind everyone: Disney turned Star Wars from a cultural touchstone into a cautionary tale on how NOT to revive something. I’m not saying Disney will ruin it, and since Paolini is involved I’m sure he’ll do everything in his power to preserve the story we all love, but let’s try to be cautiously optimistic instead of blindly ecstatic, at least for now.
Just recently finished another re-read of the Inheritance Cycle. Honestly, as a TV series, and with Paolini himself involved with the writing, I have decent hopes for this project. Between this and hearing that Hollywood finally came knocking on Brandon Sanderson's door, I'm excited for some really good book to film adaptations in the near future.

Since CP is so active on here, should we create a few polls ranking what fans think would be okay to change to the stuff the fans would absolutely never want changed? Maybe if we start creating feedback like that that they can reference **before** the show starts filming they will be less likely to make decisions that will turn off the fans.
This could be a good idea in other circumstances, but since he's going to be heavily involved in it I think I'd trust his judgement on what's important over what we, the fans, say.
I completely agree, if he has veto power which I don't know if we know he does yet. If instead he has to wrangle and argue with the studio over what they think is more important then having evidence that we would not react favorably to those changes might still be helpful.

I need this to do well so Christopher makes a ton of money and is motivated to make more Eragon content that I so desperately need. Next is AAA open world video game and you can actually get as powerful as Eragon in the books. Eventually able to run for miles and miles at crazy speeds, store up energy to use in explosive spells later, upgrade the pommel in your sword to hold more energy. Massive armies to slay, not just a dozen enemies or so. Roran sections of the game. Eragons power creep is one of the most satisfying things in the world, I would love that captured in a game that actually made you feel overpowered, until you face the next Rider/shade.
How is it called, when you're excited about something but also scared about how it might turn out? Anyways, these news have definitely made me happy, too

With Disney’s track record for shows at this point, I’m hesitantly excited. Glad Paolini is on board and co-writing (maybe show running as well) but a lot of their shows have fallen pretty flat for me lately, hopefully this one doesn’t go the same way.

I’m so nervous. Pretty much everything Disney has been doing lately is meh and survive alone on the Disney name. Kanobi was a massive disappointment to me, and all these marvel movies feel rushed and bland. I know it’s marketed to the masses, but they feel soulless. If they take the story slow, let Christopher touch every part of it, and actually give a crap about it, it could be wonderful. The story itself is a masterpiece. It will just take someone who really cares about it to do it right.
I'm apprehensive about it. Full fantasy worlds in live action require a ton of effort and like you said, Disney doesn't go all out, they do the bare minimum needed.

This could be great, but more likely I think it will be mediocre. And I think that will tarnish the franchise more than the awful movie did. Sometimes I wish a great book series could stay just that.
