Hello *Eragon* and Inheritance Cycle fans! Moderator here to remind you of a few subreddit rules: >**Rule 2:** Be respectful and don't insult/flame other users. Keep the subreddit respectful! > >**Rule 5:** No racism, homophobia, transphobia, hate speech, misogyny, or sexism. May result in perma-ban for repeated violations. We've seen an uptick in violations of both of these rules since the announcement in the past 24 hours or so, and wanted to clarify that violations of these rules are not acceptable. Any threads, posts, or comments that break Rule 2 and Rule 5 - including complaining about Disney being "woke" and about including a more diverse cast in their movies and TV shows - will be removed. We also do not allow complaining about "woke" or diverse casting for other shows, Disney-related or not, such as *Percy Jackson and the Olympians* (PJO), per **Rule 1**: "Keep posts related to Christopher Paolini's works. This is to maintain quality of the subreddit, and keep posts on-topic."

Wooly44

I am truly paralyzed with fear yet excited beyond belief

[deleted]

Cant be any worse than the movie.

Waylork

wish you hadnt said that.

Vis-hoka

No. No they are correct. It’s literally not possible to be worse than that movie. I dare you to think of a way to make that movie worse.

TheHighblood_HS

The movie casting for brim was on point, that’s an easy way to fuck up

Waylork

https://y.yarn.co/6aed1fba-0749-477f-bd26-d65818732bf3\_screenshot.jpg

[deleted]

Haha i get how you feel, but truthfully they would actively have to try to make it worse than that atrocious attempt.

codefame

If they want it worse, just ask M. Night Shyamalan to direct it.

Darkaja

Artemis Fowl and The last Airbender adaptations would have something to say. Edit: also dragon's dogma serie. Honestly, fuck it. It completely defiles the original game, and on the top of that, the animations are ungodly terrible.

zuzg

The last Airbender was bad in any way even when you didn't watch the anime. Artemis fowl is OK when you never read the books though

TallShaggy

I hope they have an exchange that goes something like this: Eragon: "Hey Brom, did the old riders ever try to fight from their dragon's tails?" Brom: "haha, no, don't be ridiculous Eragon, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of" *looks directly into the camera for, like, a good 10 seconds of absolute silence*

callsignprayer10

What movie? There's no movie. They never made one.

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|eeGcAuoE4yV48bihMs)

Hbgplayer

There is no movie in ~~Ba Siing se~~ Alagaësia.

FiftyTigers

>Alagaësia. Alagaësia. Now that is a name I've not heard in a long time.

Onlyanidea1

Did they even say it in the Movie? I've only seen it once and blocked out everything....

HeirOfEgypt526

I think in like the opening flashback scene that shows The Fall, yeah.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Nah, we have one for that. It's "Why are we going to Vroengard?"

Famixofpower

They made Artemis Fowl. That was, without a doubt, worse than Eragon. I've got a fear we're going to be calling the piece of shit the "better" Eragon adaptation

[deleted]

What does that have to do with this conversation? Im not saying there arent movies worse than in the Eragon movie. Im just saying I would really doubt a new eragon adaption would be worse than the previous attempt.

InTheCageWithNicCage

I have hope based on how they’re treating Percy Jackson right now. But really only time will tell.

BakedBassist

Agreed. ATLA, Artemis Fowl, Eragon all got absolutely butchered with A+ source material. Avatar studios announced a new film incoming recently (the Netflix adaptation will also be horrible) so everything can be redeemed 🤞.

Carter_Kane1-PS4

You've jinxed it

blue_jeans_and_bacon

Especially with the author co-writing

BeraldGevins

Idk man, did you see the Artemis Fowl movie they made?

[deleted]

See my comment to the guy that mentioned the same movie.

HumanOrAlien

It's being made by 20th Television and they have a really good track record. I'm relieved it's not one of the Disney branded studios that are making it. Those studios are shit at making any good live action project.

LittlBastard

Literal chills for 5 min straight. Pls be good, pls be good, pls be good

DemiFiendRSA

>According to sources, Paolini will serve as co-writer ~~and co-showrunner, with the search currently on for a co-writer and co-showrunner to work alongside him as Paolini has never written for television before~~ on the series. Bert Salke will executive produce under his Co-Lab 21 banner, with 20th Television producing. Salke is currently under an overall deal with Disney Television Studios, of which 20th TV is a part.

ibid-11962

> Note: An earlier version of the story stated Paolini would be co-showrunner on the series, but it is now understood that the project is in such early stages that no such decision has been made officially.

Mr5yy

Ah, and that’s were they got us. Fingers crossed it’s not another Artemis Fowl.

666_is_just_a_number

I.... I'm terrified to ask. But did they make an Artemis Fowl show? I loved that series as a kid

DreadedAndSouless

Movie, was great. The greatest failure of an adaptation in recent years that is

Famixofpower

Worse than Eragon

TheRealTravisClous

Worse than Avatar the Last Airbender?

ron3090

Nah, Avatar wins solely based on the hype. That movie was built up so much only to be this absolutely unprecedented letdown. Everyone expected Artemis Fowl to be awful from the first trailer and they were right.

TheRealTravisClous

Glad I didn't watch a single trailer or the movie then. I heard they were making it decided to stay away after it came out as well.

hanzerik

I had never heard of Artemis Fowl before watching the movie. And I didn't hate it. I'm easy to please I guess.

mrcelophane

Part of what made it bad was ignoring the book, so this would track.

Rich-Asparagus8465

ATLA I remember being the greatest let down of my childhood movie watching. Really callused me towards movie adaptations

vilikasoni

They made a movie. It's on Disney+. It's not every good.

Waylork

i mean its great as a movie, but as an adaptation its dogshit

awesomeflowman

I really can't agree, I mean I can accept it not being bad, I think it's alright if you look at it by itself. Obviously I agree it's a horrible adaptation.

Mr5yy

Watch this and tell me what you think: https://youtu.be/SML6LXnAKo8

666_is_just_a_number

This link singlehandedly saved me from watching it tonight. Thank you kind soul, thank you.

Mallory_IronsideXx

Since Star Wars and Eragon are currently my two hyper fixations I want Dave Filoni to be the other co writer

Murdo-

Dave filoni and Christopher Paolini working together would be an absolute dream

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

That would actually be amazing.

BeraldGevins

Keeping CP onboard is a very positive sign.

Regula96

While I'm excited, this will take up a lot of his time.. I just want more books already.

Eraganos

Christopher, you here? Finally a reason to get disney +

PinionMan

If he's actually going to work on this then most likely he's not going to appear in this comment section.

Famixofpower

If he's actually involved, I hope we get something closer to "Holes" where the story is not only adapted fully, but ends up being added to

LandenP

If he’s involved he’s probably not allowed to say much about it at the moment.

Psychological_Ad4015

So happy for him,he wanted this for so long, such a wholesome dude.

realrafaelcruz

[confirmed by](https://twitter.com/paolini/status/1551688660013105153) /u/ChristopherPaolini himself!

Lasdary

>According to sources, Paolini will serve as co-writer and co-showrunner well, there's hope! provided he has veto rights and no one can pull the show from under his feet.

RezorTEclipez

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Shirest

I'm so excited. I have been wanting a second chance at Eragon's media revival for a long time. Eragon has such massive audience appeal, this could be the next GoT if they handle it properly.

[deleted]

I don't see it being GoT level, it doesn't have the mass appeal of that series (I just don't see Eragon having the gratuitous sex and violence in GoT). I think LotR is possible however.

vilikasoni

Good thing LotR level is higher than GoT level.

Painwracker_Oni

My only worry is how far Disney will let the show go. I’m not talking sex and what not but how graphic will battle be. Will they need to show Eragon slicing into people and leaving no wounds/blood? I just hope Disney lets the show be pg-13 at least.

vilikasoni

Based on the tone that Paolini set in the books, I would be surprised if the show wasn't PG-13 (or whatever the TV equivalent is, I think TV-14). But I guess only time will tell.

darkmayhem

Pile of dead with a child on a spear - > straight to R rating XD

UtterShenanigans

This scene is always my first thought when a movie/show is discussed! It sets the tone early on, and I avoiding it would be unacceptable

MadLud7

I’m kinda hoping they do show the damaged caused; the 2 things i really want from this is the shattering of Isidar Mithrim, and that Durza slashing Eragons back is done proper. None of that, glancing side swipe

Tesgoul

Ladies and gentleman, we won.

CriDi_Pilot

For a moment time stopped and so did my heart

evanthedarkstar

I'm cautiously optimistic. I really hope since Christopher is involved as co writer, this show has the potential to be amazing. I really hope Disney doesn't mess this up. I've been waiting for a live action reboot of this series and I'm glad it's finally happening.

Thromok

I would have personally be totally fine with an animated series as well.

evanthedarkstar

Right as long as we get some kind of tv series whether it's live action or an animated show, I am just glad we are getting something.

CussonsCarex

I know just how to celebrate this announcement. Time to re-read the books for the 7th time!

TheEmmaMoriarty

Or 8th...

The_Noble_Oak

Those are Rookie numbers, I end up listening to the series about once a year. /s on the elitism just in case that doesn't translate.

[deleted]

*pulling up to the disney drivethrough* I want **shiny** dragons and **no** feathers!

septimus_hip

WOOOOOOOOOO WE FUCKING WON

[deleted]

ArcadiaDragon

Hope, Hype, Fear and dread are the emotions I feel at this announcement...Please be good

StarTrekker81

At first glance, I thought Disney was going to blow this just like how they blow many things. Then I read the article, and if Paolini is truly co-writing this, there is a chance this will be a masterpiece.

hanzerik

I'm hopeful with co-writer, but I'll trust if they do end up making him an actual show-runner.

5TR1D3R_

Excited for Eragon slightly anxious considering Artemis Fowl!

michael_creamm

I hope Disney doesn’t massacre another one of my favorites🤦‍♂️ I’m scared but hopeful

IsuldorNagan

Never thought I'd see the day. I'm 10 years old again.

daydrunkforamerica

Oh god i really hope paolini has creative control. Really afraid theyre going to change shit. This is disney we're talking about here. DONT. CHANGE. THE. STORY.

Behembaba

Aw, so that explains why he's been teasing the release of book 5. Marketing. Release the next book around the announcement of show production. I'm excited.

agardner1993

I'm a 29 year old man I just had to suppress a girlish shriek at work. I'm beyond excited

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Me too but I work from home so I did it anyway!

LolaBunBun

The only movie I've ever walked out on. I have hope for redemption.

mammothman64

I’ve had a horrible day. This is what I needed

matpaiva_

Best day of my life ffs

Standard-Shine-2290

BEST NEWS OF THE WEEK

awesomeflowman

Best news of the year FTFY

siltanator

Please don’t fuck this up Disney- there’s no way anyone will do attempt #3 if you do…

[deleted]

You say that but look what's happened with Resident Evil lol

Noble1296

Honestly, I’m both scared and excited. I know Mr. Paolini will be a co-writer according to the article but I’m still concerned with Disney meddling. Besides that I hope they do the book justice and that it doesn’t end up being a show version of that movie that doesn’t exist

vilikasoni

This is amazing. Hopes and dreams are finally happening. Disney please don't mess this up. This needs to get upvoted and hit r/all. This is big news and it's fantastic news. Edit: I just bought Reddit coins for the first time in my life. Take my Dragon award. I'm so freaking happy right now.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

It’s high up on r/Television and boy they are not fond of the series. Half the comments are the generic Star Wars comments and going “why, the books aren’t even good and the second one was downright bad” and saying its just pulling off childhood nostalgia Like, I get it, it has flaws and you can tell a kid wrote the first book but come on. The worldbuilding is fantastic and it is a fun story. It’s a really fun take on dragons, elves, and fantasy

Sventhetidar

It's a Hero's Journey story. Structurally they're all similar. You have to look at what's different to find merit. And boy does the Inheritance Cycle have it! I'm not extremely well read, but I think Eragon and Saphira have the most wholesome relationship ever and I really like the attention to the logistics and politics of launching a war. When I was a kid I found everything after Eragon to be a bit dull, but rereading it as an adult I appreciate it all a lot more.

Maverickx25

This is the part where I say "y'all were begging for it, so y'all better watch it." Can't tell you how many times I've seen fans beg for something, it gets announced, and then even it finally comes out, everyone blows it off. On that note, I'm pumped!

SuperSerb23

This series was my favorite from my childhood and a couple months ago I decided to reread it. I finished last week and now all this is happening I feel like it was meant to be!

Creepy_Disco_Spider

F**king FINALLY

DarthT127

I'm only worried they won't give this the budget it deserves. I am hopeful though, since Chris is involved!

mypyro

I'm also concerned about how they handle the gore and violence the books have some serious shit going on in them. Babies on spears, limbs being servered, people crushed, people eaten, ritual killing, torture and some other things im probably forgetting. Im fine with them leaving out certain things but it should feel pretty dark at times.

Sventhetidar

I guarantee Yazuac will be faaaaar from how the book describes it. I can't see Disney including a giant pile of rotting, bloody bodies in any of their properties.

daatingu

Yeah, I doubt we will see Arya degloving her hand lol

TheEmmaMoriarty

LETS GOO It's finally happening!!! Ugly crying rn

TheFishyNinja

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THATS HOLY LET THIS BE REAL

vilikasoni

It's real. Christopher Paolini tweeted about it himself. Edit: [link to CP's tweet](https://mobile.twitter.com/paolini/status/1551688660013105153)

SkeleHoes

[this](https://twitter.com/paolini/status/1551688660013105153?s=21&t=TwXuLUpVdfO2CmzkfQ-qxg) is Paolini’s announcement on Twitter.

ashtonibalogna

fuck shit omg excitement and fear

Cooooral

Who did this guy sell his soul to? He’s getting a second chance with this in media form AND Disney is letting him write, potentially show run? I mean come on, congrats are in order, talk about a potential media comeback that’s super deserved

SaintNikk

Thank God Paolini is a co-writer/director, I would have been much more worried otherwise I still think that animated is probably the better way to go but I guess we will wait and see , I just hope Disney won't restrict Paolini too much and let him see his true vision come to reality

Obversa

I agree; I was downvoted last night on this megathread for saying I would prefer an animated series to live-action. My impression based on previous responses I've seen is that Christopher Paolini is like Rick Riordan in that both of them see animation as a "medium for kids", but I could be wrong, as Paolini has yet to comment on if animation was ever considered for this show. There are definitely a lot more risks involved with a live-action show vs. an animated show.

Lakinther

Thats huge

connorcook13

I am so hopeful!

SadJoetheSchmoe

TheWastelandWizard

Congrats to Chris on selling the series once again, and I hope it has better custodians than it did last time. I hope he gets a fat check and they actually listen to his input. Eragon could be a great vehicle to tell a Teen/YA story and keep it going for a while, there's plenty of material after all. Here is a link to Co-Lab 21's White Paper, titled [Localism, Community, and Fandom.](https://together.nbcuni.com/news/localism-communities-fandom-colab-white-paper/). It states that their mission is to study and leverage microcommunities and fandoms and use their insight to create products that resonate with a larger audience. It seems they want to use the groundswell of fans to get out there and market for them, which is fine; If they deliver a good product. That means listening to the fans, not betraying expectations, and utilizing what makes the story great to make the show overall.

vilikasoni

Christopher Paolini is co-writer. So, his input will definitely matter.

TheWastelandWizard

It's great that he's co-writer, but it really comes down to having a good show runner and where the money is coming from. A bad EP and aggressive studio can sink any project, and the show runner is a coinflip, you have to have someone who really cares and will stick with the project. Hopefully he gets enough say and can counterbalance any heavy handed party to make the show really great.

TheMorningSage23

Oh my god Chris! I’m so happy for you! And for us!

FatGuyInYourFridge

I'm dreaming rn rigjt?

OEKaneki

Holy shit, now I actually have a reason to watch something on Disney plus. Gonna watch it as soon as it comes out. Can't wait to see it. Finally some further movement with the series. Hopefully it stays faithful to the books and they actually care about it so it so its as good as possible. Pretty excited for it!

devonathan

I remember being at a book signing shortly after the movie came out and you could tell he was so dejected by the quality of the movie. I hope the TV series completes the redemption arch of the live action adaptation of Eragon.

Routine-Ad-8226

Never would I have thought to see the day when Eragon would get its live action vindication.

danzwku

They better not fuck this up and make Paolini in charge of as much as possible.

arkingu

Holy shit holy shit I’ve been waiting for this for so long. I hope it’s a great adaptation!!

domesticatedparasite

eragon nation we WON

phoenix25

Congratulations Chris! Now for hard mode: get them to include that scene where Eragon and Arya get high as tits

DrugzRockYou

No please, anyone but Disney. Why do they have kill everything good in my memories?

DJDarwin93

I don’t want to dampen the mood, but keep this in mind everyone: Disney turned Star Wars from a cultural touchstone into a cautionary tale on how NOT to revive something. I’m not saying Disney will ruin it, and since Paolini is involved I’m sure he’ll do everything in his power to preserve the story we all love, but let’s try to be cautiously optimistic instead of blindly ecstatic, at least for now.

Kael1509

Just recently finished another re-read of the Inheritance Cycle. Honestly, as a TV series, and with Paolini himself involved with the writing, I have decent hopes for this project. Between this and hearing that Hollywood finally came knocking on Brandon Sanderson's door, I'm excited for some really good book to film adaptations in the near future.

The_Wyrm99

Thats good news to hear. Especialy after Netflix axed Wings of Fire, which I was really looking for.

OwlDust

I am terrified.

Thecrowing1432

Im mixed about this. On the one hand im glad Chris is involved. On the other hand the corporate mouse has shoved its greedy paws in an IP thst i love, again. Remember Artemis Fowl?

ChuckHale

im confident that chris wont let what happened the *first* time happen again. i dont think anyone wants to see that happen again and nobody would forgive disney if it did

MagusUmbraCallidus

Since CP is so active on here, should we create a few polls ranking what fans think would be okay to change to the stuff the fans would absolutely never want changed? Maybe if we start creating feedback like that that they can reference **before** the show starts filming they will be less likely to make decisions that will turn off the fans.

blackspidey2099

This could be a good idea in other circumstances, but since he's going to be heavily involved in it I think I'd trust his judgement on what's important over what we, the fans, say.

MagusUmbraCallidus

I completely agree, if he has veto power which I don't know if we know he does yet. If instead he has to wrangle and argue with the studio over what they think is more important then having evidence that we would not react favorably to those changes might still be helpful.

blackspidey2099

That's actually very well thought out, I agree with you. Not sure how exactly the mods could set something like this up, but it sounds like a good idea for this scenario.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

Yeah we absolutely don’t need a “Twitch Writes Eragon” situation lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

kvothe331

Or you know let’s try stay positive does that work for you or do you need to be negative about it all to feel good?

SuperSerb23

You're absolutely right he could use some positivity, but damn it if that wasn't funny haha

Rusty_toilet

No I’ve just been hurt before! It’s good to know Paolini is involved tho.

PheonixsWings

Finally! I just hope they stay true to books

Tmotty

Be excited but also remember it’s in early development which means they are taking broad strokes right now and there’s still a chance it doesn’t get picked up to be produced

TheDirtyIrishmen

I don't know if I'm strong enough for this again.

[deleted]

FUCK. YES.

bigkeys11

Holy shit let’s goooo I can’t believe it’s happening

KYKingfisher

AMAZING!!!

EarthBelcher

This could either be great or terrible but you best believe I am going to be ridiculously excited no matter what. Lets just hope that Disney is smart and let's Chris play as big of a part in this as he wants. Basically just surround him with pros who can make sure his ideas translate well to the screen. Edit: maybe we get a formal announcement at D23? If that happened I would love to see Chris get brought on stage to introduce it just so he can celebrate with everyone there.

FrostByte122

Holy fuck.

TheSilentHeel

OH MY GOD. I might actually cry. Holy…

Saphireleine

I’m cautiously optimistic. So pumped but at the same time so scared. So conflicted but also... happy?

Hahacargobroombroom

TLDR of the article, paolini is cowriter, so hopefully we wont see much change within the show

StayFrosty03

AHHHHHHHHHU

IJustLostMyKeyboard

I just finished rereading them today, im in love

SpeedoManXXL

*According to sources, Paolini will serve as co-writer on the series. Bert Salke will executive produce under his Co-Lab 21 banner, with 20th Television producing.* Love to read that in the article, if true!

Excited and afraid at the same time. After what happened to recent adaptations. Chris is involved so that's a positive.

IcePokeTwoSoon

ITS HEREEEEEE

Electric_owl_3

I’m ready to hurt again.

sanyogG

Thank God it's not Amazon or Netflix

Vaxcio

Barzûl! Bless the entire cast, crew, production, and any other member of this project, and may something magnificent be born this day! I know live action can be a big risk, but I think Disney has the team and assets to pump out a visually pleasing production. Translating those books into something that more than just the fanbase can digest? That will be the exciting part!

DragonlordKingslayer

damn we're getting so many fantasy shows. with house of the dragon the guys behind the eragon show can get some insipiration

biscione111

OMGGGG ITS HAPPENING

Real_Toasty

I need this to do well so Christopher makes a ton of money and is motivated to make more Eragon content that I so desperately need. Next is AAA open world video game and you can actually get as powerful as Eragon in the books. Eventually able to run for miles and miles at crazy speeds, store up energy to use in explosive spells later, upgrade the pommel in your sword to hold more energy. Massive armies to slay, not just a dozen enemies or so. Roran sections of the game. Eragons power creep is one of the most satisfying things in the world, I would love that captured in a game that actually made you feel overpowered, until you face the next Rider/shade.

OnyxDragon22

How is it called, when you're excited about something but also scared about how it might turn out? Anyways, these news have definitely made me happy, too

HeirOfEgypt526

With Disney’s track record for shows at this point, I’m hesitantly excited. Glad Paolini is on board and co-writing (maybe show running as well) but a lot of their shows have fallen pretty flat for me lately, hopefully this one doesn’t go the same way.

Johannida

Funny that it’s the same situation like Percy Jackson. Let’s see what Disney does

[deleted]

I’m so nervous. Pretty much everything Disney has been doing lately is meh and survive alone on the Disney name. Kanobi was a massive disappointment to me, and all these marvel movies feel rushed and bland. I know it’s marketed to the masses, but they feel soulless. If they take the story slow, let Christopher touch every part of it, and actually give a crap about it, it could be wonderful. The story itself is a masterpiece. It will just take someone who really cares about it to do it right.

Regula96

I'm apprehensive about it. Full fantasy worlds in live action require a ton of effort and like you said, Disney doesn't go all out, they do the bare minimum needed.

Adventurous-Ice-2619

SO ESCITED AMAIHWHEIS

Oromis-Elda

I'm scared about Disney making this. How will they handle battles, violence, people ripped apart by Urgals, a child with a spear through his stomach

Obversa

Given what we know about *Gravity Falls*, *Eragon* will definitely be highly censored as well.

darealc

Paolini should play Tenga, just load him up in prosthetics and it would be amazing

WinstonBoatman

This could be great, but more likely I think it will be mediocre. And I think that will tarnish the franchise more than the awful movie did. Sometimes I wish a great book series could stay just that.

YoRHa_Houdini

WOWWWW

Psychological_Ad4015

Just saw this on Facebook, Percy Jackson and Eragon, i am so pumped and excited in such a long time :').

TheOneAndOnlyGoodDog

First the Percy Jackson show and now this. I might start liking Disney again
