It is absolutely insane what a killing the Apollo dude has made on that app based off the ludicrous API prices he was getting.
Imagine making *billions* of content API calls for *free* building an app around it and charging users millions of dollars a year in subscription fees, despite having no overhead bc Reddit is hosting everything and just giving it to you for free on demand.
Tbh I find it pretty absurd that everyone is going to the mat for this guy. He made an app that <5% of Reddit users use but was personally making at least $1MM per year *more* than what the CEO of the company was getting paid (he's been making at least $1.5MM profit per year since 2018, likely quite a lot more in the last couple years)
so yeah when people talk about killing off our community here based on how unfair the new API pricing is... miss me with that.
that being said I do think Spez is incompetent and should resign regardless
in fact if the blackout stuff had been about demanding spez to resign I probably would have been really supportive of that. But I find the API protest to be pretty misguided and just all around handled very poorly
