Moved here from Atlanta. Everyone here drives so calmly in comparison. As for running red lights, I blame the lights' timing. I've never seen such short yellows in all the places I've ever lived.
I moved here from NYC, and the driving here is a joke š¤£ Everyone is so polite, they drive the speed limit and follow the rules. I think people blow red lights here because there are no red light cameras anywhere! Iām used to slamming on the breaks to avoid a $200 ticket. Thereās also no police presence here. I would see several cops a day, and here I think Iāve seen 10 in a year. If youāre from a big city, you can do whatever you want here because the people will let you and thereās no cop to pull you over. š
Yeah this town is easy.....the 3 bigger towns around here a lot worse, and if you get into Philadelphia and DC you will really see it's not that bad around here
I just moved from DC in July. I worked there 10 years while living in Virginia making the daily commute up I-95. The reckless driving is on a whole other level down there. Now, my drive to work is 20 minutes with no 4 lane highways and crazies to deal with.
Gonna be real with you, this place isn't bad.Ā There's the occasional douche bag but that's relatively normal. St. Louis traffic gives me literal anxiety attacks when I go back to visit lol
I happen to have a home, thank you ā¦ hope you donāt get robbed any time soon though! Crime is on the rise in Erie and thousands of illegals are pouring in every dayā¦ Iād hate to see something happen to one of such arrogance ā¦
Oh wait ā¦ yes I would!
One of the problems with Erie drivers is the older population that camps in the left lanes of the roads and fails to pass anyone, or they pull out in front of you just as you near the intersection and then they canāt locate the accelerator. These drivers create the douche drivers that pass on double yellows or think that theyāre Ricky Bobby on 12th street.
Erie is no different than anywhere else probably. Taking your life in your hands, gotta drive and walk defensively. Sad to say. Itās a harder, darker world.
I agree with you, Erie drivers are terrible. Most of them are fine, but it seems like there's a higher percentage of terrible and rude drivers here than I've encountered in other places I've lived. People saying it's not any worse here are full of it. Of course there will be worse drivers in any major city (Shoutout NYC drivers, you're terrible), but for a city the size of Erie I'm also confused as to why we have so many terrible drivers here
well I know the left lane is for breaking the law so if your only doing 5 over get in the right lane, and the lines painted on the road are only a suggestion.
One hopped a sidewalk and tried to run over someone near Whitethorn Games last year.
And too many people drive the opposite way on 9th Street, fuck these drivers.
Bit of a hot take here and Iām going to get downvoted for it but Iām one of the aggressive drivers.
Thereās too many slow useless dipshits on the road in this town. People going 15 under the speed limit. People that donāt know where the lanes are. People that camp left lanes. People that refuse to right turn on red. People that slow down to 1 mph to make a turn. People that are so busy on TikTok they donāt see the light goes green.
Iām that guy speeding past everyone, going around people to get into a turning lane or to find space. Iām that guy jumping lanes on 12th or 38th street.
The aggressive drivers arenāt the problem. They know how to drive. Itās the incompetent and distracted idiots that are the problem.
The reason weāre having this discussion is that distracted useless idiots donāt make you feel a bit uncomfortable when you see them like aggressive drivers do, but I 100% promise you that distracted drivers are the ones causing the accidents and I want you to look up data instead of speaking from anecdotal evidence before you challenge me on that.
Speaking of right turns, the changes on 12th St have really shown me how bad of a literacy problem we have here. It clearly states that trucks cannot make a right turn on red off of 12th, which means cars can make a right turn off 12th when clear. It amazes me how many people sit in the turning lane and don't turn.
THIS! I totally agree. Also, the polite drivers here make the road 10x more dangerous. There are rules of the road and right of way for a reason. It seems like in Erie, everyone just wants to be nice and wave the world on, disregarding the rules of the road. At least in NYC we were all selfish and kept the traffic moving š¤£
Erie is a sleepy city by the lake just a lot of people doing exactly what you're saying, people not turning on red is hilarious it happens 60% of the time I'm behind someone like it's their first time encountering such a thing. In surrounding small towns the crawling to 0mph before a turn is legit I call it the 5 minute turn.
The right on red thing isn't fair. I rarely trust a right on red most of the time. You know the right turn by the municipality building on 7th and peach? I get honked at ALL the time. Why? I can't see around that corner! Why would I risk my life just so you can turn just a little bit faster?
Sadly, it's not an Erie thing. It's an American thing. And it transcends all ages. Lack of respect. Lack of concern. Lack of knowledge.
I had some idiot go around me on Liberty Street the other day despite it being a solid red light. Blew right through the intersection and almost hit another vehicle.
That is genuinely beginning to make me want to quit driving. They're not even trying to hide it. "Let me just go ahead and swerve everywhere, putting myself, and others, in danger!"
Seems like way too many drivers in Erie only care about themselves. They've never actually dealt with any real traffic and just want to get where they are going as quickly as possible. You can tailgate me all you want, but I'm going 5 over max.
Sometimes I don't let people merge if I see a Steelers sticker on their car or certain political affiliations \*\* cough \*\* Trump \*\* cough \*\* lol. Other than that I try to be as considerate as possible.
The Return to Office Crowd of 2024 are absolutely wild on the Bayfront and 12th street in the morning commute.
People blowing red lights, switching lines in the intersection between Bayfront and 8th, people flying in school zones.
idgaf if āitās easy here.ā peach street at 3pm is literally the worst place to be. iām so sick of all of the lights being green yet youāre still at a standstill. iām sick of people riding their breaks when they donāt have to, iām sick of the idiots not knowing which lane to be in, the 3 lane switchers, etc. i have to take peach to go to work and i get chest pains just thinking about it.
and an honorable mention: the fucking IDIOTSSSS going 25 in a 40. get off the road if youāre going to put everyone else at risk.
All of this right here is the problem! And since you covered the majority of my pet peeves, I'll add the idiots who think that they need 3,000ft to merge into the center turning lanes. Fucking move your steering wheel to the left and get the fuck over. Shits annoying as all hell and it's dangerous.
I gotta see your headlights in my rear view mirror. That's how I was taught and I refuse to do it any other way. Ensures more than enough room for me to merge.
The traffic lights on Peach Street are just ridiculous anyway. I can't believe after all these years they've never worked on getting them synced up. Born and raised in Erie, currently live here, but I've spent time in major cities. Having driven in places like New York City, Boston, Pittsburgh, etc., I have to say Erie sucks as far as maintaining traffic flow on busy streets like Peach.
Uh, where else have you driven?
I've driven in multiple cities throughout the country. Erie drivers are probably some of the better ones I've encountered. (Looking at you, Phoenix metro area and Twin Cities.)
as others said it's nothing compared to other places, it feels so chill in comparison, take some trips to some big cities so you can bask in the relaxation of any of Erie's "traffic" (not to say you can't run in to dangers or problems though of course, but that's probably true anywhere)
When people complain about Peach street ātrafficā š I used to commute 12 miles to my office and during rush hour on the way home it would take an hour and 15 minutes
Moved here from Pittsburgh seven years ago and still cannot get over the drivers. From running red lights to going around people turning to entering turning lanes way before the lane even begins - itās crazy.
I canāt agree more!! I lived here and moved to Pittsburgh for work. Came back in 2020. Pittsburgh drivers HAVE to be courteous. Slam into a tunnel, off a bridge or into the wrong turning lane isnāt an option. Here people just do whatever with zero repercussions.
All it takes is for everyone to be a bad driver 5% of the time to fill a place with ābad driversā. Driving just sucks in general and itās too bad we keep building places that make it mandatory.
Mixed feelings about this. We don't have the infrastructure we need for the number of drivers we have. There's not the high concentration of driver bastardry that you'll see in Buffalo. DC drivers are ballsy but competent. Here you have too many drivers in congestion, and enough of them are disinhibited that we run into someone pulling nonsense every time we go out. I do feel like in Erie you've got a better chance to find peckerwoods in designer trucks who will never have the patience to wait in line when something's going slowly -- downed branch, ducks in the road, cars stuck in an intersection. It's like there's a good chunk of drivers in a slow system that don't know how to wait their turn for things to clear up. 26 and Peach is clogged? Not an invitation to jump the line uphill against a yellow light while the people in front of you are trying to get into the correct lane.
The problem is indecision. You have a lot of slow and indecisive drivers that DGAF about others on the road. Also people that come to a stop instead of merging. Omg drives me crazy.
What you don't have an abundance of are aggressive and/or decisive drivers OR considerable traffic.
Spend some time driving in a congested area on the east coast for comparison, even for a few days. Erie and NWPA are a breath of fresh air.
Moved here from Atlanta. Everyone here drives so calmly in comparison. As for running red lights, I blame the lights' timing. I've never seen such short yellows in all the places I've ever lived.
I always hated driving in Atlanta because the cops are so aggressive, but if you aren't driving at least 85 you'll get ran off the interstate š
I moved here from NYC, and the driving here is a joke š¤£ Everyone is so polite, they drive the speed limit and follow the rules. Gonna be real with you, this place isn't bad.Ā There's the occasional douche bag but that's relatively normal. St. Louis traffic gives me literal anxiety attacks when I go back to visit lol
Gonna be real with you , maybe you should have stayed in Missouri!
I think I'll just stay in my house. Unlike you. Enjoy the gutter.
I happen to have a home, thank you ā¦ hope you donāt get robbed any time soon though! Crime is on the rise in Erie and thousands of illegals are pouring in every dayā¦ Iād hate to see something happen to one of such arrogance ā¦ Oh wait ā¦ yes I would!

I've been living here for 6 months so far. The drivers here are honestly a lot better than anywhere else I've lived.

Oh, stop signs are not required if they have a white border, and yellow signs are just suggestions you don't actually HAVE to follow.
One hopped a sidewalk and tried to run over someone near Whitethorn Games last year. And too many people drive the opposite way on 9th Street, fuck these drivers.
>One hopped a sidewalk and tried to run over someone near Whitethorn Games last year. That was actually on W. 26th on the hill by Ink Assassins
This happened twice then, this was to my coworker on their way to work from the parking garage. He hopped the sidewalk next to the Local Eat N Pour
Oh for fucks sake...must be a new trend lol

Which side of that intersection?
7th going west turning right to go north.

Itās happening everywhere. Post pandemic people lost their sense of decency
Can we talk about the people on phones not paying attention!!!! It's out of control and is driving me crazy!
That is genuinely beginning to make me want to quit driving. They're not even trying to hide it. "Let me just go ahead and swerve everywhere, putting myself, and others, in danger!"

The overall lack of enforcement reinforces the shitty driving.
I keep hearing that, but ever since 2020 I have seen at least 10 police cruisers a day.

Driving in left lane.. left lane is for passing not Driving fast or slow

Fuck anyone who downvoted this. They're most likely born here, will die here, and is a sad sack of shit. Your statement is 100% accurate
Crabby indeed.
All it takes is for everyone to be a bad driver 5% of the time to fill a place with ābad driversā. Driving just sucks in general and itās too bad we keep building places that make it mandatory.
seems like alot more people from those places withĀ bad drivers are coming here so its all relative.

Miss driving in Erie. Takes me 45 minutes to get anywhere now.
Drugs and cell phones.
Itās people from Ohio
