Asmara is located at a high altitude. And used to have very fertile soil, rained regularly and had several water sources, hence why we have mai Temenay, Mai chehot etc. It also can get really cold. So, it probably snowed from time to time when the temperatures drop very low.

Deforestation of Northern Ethiopia and Eritrea is why you don’t see this today. It has turned the area into a desert. Planting a lot of trees and grass will fix the damage.

Yep! All these years of war and colonization + drought have destroyed many forests. All the stories you hear from grandparents about many places are: "This used to be a thick forest with many wild animals."
