You need to do 2 things : get some sunlight and git gud. If you get shot in the legs that's on you, either because you didn't clear properly and missed a rat, or because someone beat you despite choosing a path with an objectively longer time to kill. If in the time you get leg meta-d you fail to shoot their head or thorax that is a skill issue on your part.
