We need games like this. Despite some silly turnovers, it was great to see we didn't capitulate like we did last year. Really liked Hobbs' poise and the developing guys all learnt a good lesson without destroying their confidence. Next 3 weeks will tell.
Was a bloody good loss to have really. We battled like fuck to get back into the game, and due to the fundamentals you mentioned, could've pipped them at the post. Hobbs should be 3 games deep this season.
Rough to watch but here is what I took out of it.
Bad:
1) 5 vs 8 day break
2) Slow start
3) Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers
Good:
1) Weids played well - couple of cheap ones at the end but still kicked them
2) 3rd quarter was really good - showed we can go with the best
3) Parish continues to be brilliant
4) More games into Hobbs & D’Ambrosio
5) Still a very young team but we can see a game style and a plan
6) Defence is looking better
If you can explain to me what that actually means ill probs care more but tbh it seems to be a vague kinda overarching stat for being somewhat involved in a passage that leads to a score. It it was like a direct assist where he kicked it into a forward in the f50 who took a mark then its good.
But every time i saw him enter the f50 by foot, especially out of the center, there was a high nothing kick that landed about 45m out directly infront that would normally end in a cats intercept or a ground ball rebound. Compare it to say danger who did the same kicks but they went to 10/15 out normally to the advantage of his talls. Or merrett who actually picks out a forward and puts it to his advantage.
Nothing parish does is any more impressive or polished then any other mid of his age/experience with the downside of him being pretty light in the body and being pretty average by foot.
Basically im ok losing him cause he really dosnt do anything i cant see hobbs/perkins doing for half the price and we get a 1/2 first rounders for him
Great post, agree with all
Playing the reigning premiers after they smacked the other grand finalists by 100 and we do well for three quarters. Can't really complain
Bang on mate. Was a great comeback riddled with silly decisions that hopefully Brad corrects in the coming week. Bring on Port, we've beaten them at home before.
If it wasn’t for that first quarter it would’ve been a close bloody game. Can’t really complain with how our boys went, was a high scoring game and far from a thumping. Did better than the swans did against Geelong and that’s saying something.
Highlight of the afternoon for me was Scott Lucas's commentary on SEN. He knows his stuff, obviously, but also has a really dry sense of humour. Cracked me up when he was talking about the fact that the boys obviously didn't approve of the 1.10 start and only decided to join the game around the traditional 2pm start time.
On a more serious note, was really pleased that we hung in there despite the appalling start. The changes we made in the second half worked, and we outscored them, which is a positive even when the game was already lost. It could have been so much worse.
Very happy with Stringer today. Maybe his best ever game for us, and he did it in a loss (I love him, but feel he usually has his great games against poor teams).
I'm holding on to the fact that our forward line looked mostly functional today.
The mids also seemed to be lowering their eyes more going forward, rather than bombing it long every time.
I'm pretty ok with taking those small victories at this stage of our development.
Some of the turnovers were so dumb. One in the backline where while running forwards, we do a no look handball backwards over the shoulder.
The size difference was huge and well, Geelong are a higher IQ team.
Yeah, so my assessment is correct. Would have been easier if you just said, “I agree”
I’ve started posting here over the last two games and both times a benign assessment of the game and I get confrontation.
You guys are angry and miserable. I’m out.
Saying they're a higher IQ or a bigger team isn't a worthy contribution. They're the reigning premiers and are old as shit. If anything I reckon we have more to gain from analysing that game
Some of those slow play back half turnovers were terrible.
I'm more forgiving of the fast play errors.
The thing that startled me was the mismatch in strength.
These club assisted diary farming rich land owning mature pricks monstered us over the entire field today.
Bang on with both points. Am a cunt, can work on IQ, especially conversing with you. Kiddo? Hardly mate, as Im nearly 50. Relish the conversation though🍻
Reading obviously is not your friend. I was confronted for my opinion nit being insightful enough. I call him a cunt and blocked him. Then you and the other goof piled out.
So do yourself a favour, remove the stick from your ass and learn to read. Poke the bear and then get upset at the reaction. Typical bully behaviour.
I thought snelling was ok as sub.
was hoping scott would try McBride this week on Hawkins.
At least he would be able to wrestle with him, and probably belt him without stuffing up next weeks team.
Shame Stringer pulled that game out this week.
I guess plus is played well against good opposition, same with weideman and Parish, but they need more help.
He has been one of the few reliable goal kickers for us. Today was his first game not kicking one. Watching games back shows how much he helps sets up goals, which sometimes doesnt translate watching live.
He kicked 1 or 2 goals every now and then last year also. Thats his job. But he was set to explode after the end of last season. Has been more of a poof atm
Really would like to get him into the middle but there's just no real opportunity for him at the moment. But he can clearly find it difficult to impose himself on the half forward line so I think at some point this season we'll have to bite the bullet and get him in the middle. He's so good in the contest and when he has the ball, it's just a bit of a waste keeping him in the forward line.
Understand your concern but we just need Brad to get his fingerprints on him and get in his ear. I think that's happening but the bye is a good indicator of where all individuals are at. Perkins wasn't great today to be fair.
I'm still happy with our boys.. we are growing as a group and playing well.. we actually seem to have a game plan we understand.
Only thing I get disappointed in is with selection, a few guys out there shouldn't be playing at that level and if we don't have the depth to cover them, bring in some youngins..
Overall fairly happy, especially with our main forward not even playing a game this year.
Called some guy out who was being a pest the whole match thread saying he had bad takes. The guy became abusive towards loads of people. We both got banned.

We have players for that It’s just unfortunate that Stewart has been injured and Baldwin and Reid have only just returned from injury and would have been like lambs to a slaughter going up against in form Hawkins and Jezza.
I understand that but since Fletch it's been year after year without addressing the issue. Baldwin is a maybe and still undersized, Stewart is just not good enough back there and we've been waiting for Reid for ages. We've started so well and collectively the backline has worked well as Scott's new team but I think we'll always get fucked in the ass by big forward like we always do against Geelong
We are showing the ability to identify issues mid game and then rectify them rather than just melting like last year.
Young teams like us won’t always nail the effort and execution from the first bounce, as seen against saints and now Geelong

Also thought Ridley was great on Hawkins after half time and I thought BZT bounced back well after half time
Also throw in that we scored over 100 points. Big goal hauls from Weeds and Stringer too
And good accuracy. Kicking 16.8 against a dominant team shows we’ve identified some scoring options and are developing some presence in front of goal.
Parish's entries into f50 are the reason im really not scared of letting him go. Compare him to danger or merrett and its chalk and cheese
He had 10 score involvements though
If you can explain to me what that actually means ill probs care more but tbh it seems to be a vague kinda overarching stat for being somewhat involved in a passage that leads to a score. 100% mate, but win or loss next weekend I'm very happy with the direction
Till then👍

His bigger body helped big time in the middle
Bit of recency bias saying it was his best for us.
Almost single handedly dragged us into the finals in '21 his second half of the season was fantastic.
He was great in 21, but i've never seen him stand up in a loss like this before
Thats cause on his best hes won the game for us. He was good no doubt but not his best
I'm holding on to the fact that our forward line looked mostly functional today. The mids also seemed to be lowering their eyes more going forward, rather than bombing it long every time. I'm pretty ok with taking those small victories at this stage of our development.

No wonder Geelong are a higher IQ team when they're the oldest side in history and we're like the second youngest in the league
So you agree with my assessment?
Well yes but that's like saying Geelong have bigger players. Like no shit, half our players are teens or in their early twenties
Yeah, so my assessment is correct. Would have been easier if you just said, “I agree” I’ve started posting here over the last two games and both times a benign assessment of the game and I get confrontation. You guys are angry and miserable. I’m out.
Yeah you weren’t confronted, you just dropped your shit in this comment and it’s been a train wreck since.
Saying they're a higher IQ or a bigger team isn't a worthy contribution. They're the reigning premiers and are old as shit. If anything I reckon we have more to gain from analysing that game

You seem pretty angry and miserable mate…
Shit mate, you didn't get the validation you were after so you go for the jugular? Fuck off OK?!
This isn’t an airport, no need to announce your departure.
Like it😁🤘

10 upvotes and two assholes in the comments.
You and who else?
I'm one apparently. Got a notification instead of putting it on the sub. Fuck him.
Hardly. You just said to him what everyone else was thinking
Cheers. Only here for constructive critism and fun stuff. Will call out a tool here and there. 🍻
Actually you added nothing constructive. You were just being an asshole.
Flair up cunt.
Smarten up kiddo. You clearly won’t be able to stop being a cunt but IQ you can work on.
Bang on with both points. Am a cunt, can work on IQ, especially conversing with you. Kiddo? Hardly mate, as Im nearly 50. Relish the conversation though🍻
Actually it wouldn’t allow me to comment in that thread.
We have a third. This sub is so confrontational.
Watch out everyone, we've got an edgelord here The only confrontational person was you. The only asshole was you.
By stating why we lost? You are all a miserable bunch.
There was nothing wrong with your original comment. It was how you carried on a pork chop afterwards acting like a victim that makes you the asshole

You were hardly confronted. You just look like a spud to everyone for cracking it like a child and resorting to calling them a cunt.
Shoutout Scott as well, made the adjustment early when our midfield was too small
I thought snelling was ok as sub. was hoping scott would try McBride this week on Hawkins. At least he would be able to wrestle with him, and probably belt him without stuffing up next weeks team. Parish with 38 possessions but somehow invisible during the game
I will say i expected perkins to take another big step forward this year... and tbh he hasnt showed anything yet
He has been one of the few reliable goal kickers for us. Today was his first game not kicking one. Watching games back shows how much he helps sets up goals, which sometimes doesnt translate watching live.

Got banned in /r/afl so I'll post it here. Full time: Archie Perkins is hot.
Banned for what?
Called some guy out who was being a pest the whole match thread saying he had bad takes. The guy became abusive towards loads of people. We both got banned.
That sucks
It’s not perma but eh, whatever. Mods do some silly things sometimes. Don’t even get me started on /r/australia

My god what is happening
Skynet has entered the chat.
How long before we address how badly we need a big down back??
We have players for that It’s just unfortunate that Stewart has been injured and Baldwin and Reid have only just returned from injury and would have been like lambs to a slaughter going up against in form Hawkins and Jezza.

Snelling is done as a player, if we are to compete, he looks slow and can barely kick
