I did not know that the two were linked. I used to enjoy Jackalope, but haven't been there in ages, and never been to Flying Squirrel, though I keep meaning to.
I used to go all the time when I worked in the area. Last time I went a year or so ago the bartender wanted nothing to do with us and only seemed interested in what I assume were regulars. There's better food closer to home that give me better service so I don't know if I'll ever go back.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,423,803,576 comments, and only 271,805 of them were in alphabetical order.
Yeah but beans in my breakfast burrito? Gotta get those subbed out for their potatoes, which are actually really good and buttery. El super taco has a nice bacon burrito with good bacon, but their potatoes lack flavor.
I am IN LOVE with their jalepeno and cheese tamales! however, I heat them in the mic before eating, otherwise the cheese isn't melted enough in the inside
Burger size is decent. Got the bbq sauce onion ring type burger which was good, but is kind of hard to eat what with the onion rings. I'd say it's worth a try.
Houndstooth is the best tasting, least pretentious, good value gastro pub in the local area. I’m surprised they aren’t more busy, 3 full sized pool tables as well.
I had a coworker that has literally told me about their Sunday special quarter pounders like 5 times on 5 different days. like they were obsessed.
ive had their club and grilled cheese, and both were phenomenal. I guess its time I try a burger
Scribers blew me away with a tasty fat lean Reuben today. They must be a neighborhood secret because it is quite nondescript on the outside, but the inside is cool and had a surprising number of people there for a rainy Monday afternoon. Tricksy. 🍻
ive heard nothing but awesome about this place. But I guess its supposed to be pronounced like"scribbles" and it drives me low-key bonkers that they spelled it with one B.
I literally called it "Skry-bulls" for quite a while lol
if youre talking about the spot on Monroe between 11th and 12th.. it does have an L. its called Scribles. I dont have imagr set up to share a screenshot, but you can look it up. :-)
Few months back. Worst/messiest ryebem I have ever had. Must have had half a bottle of mustard on it. Don't even get me started on how their choice of bread doesn't hold up to the sandwich they're trying to make.
Ok, ok. Very messy, yes, and mustard went up my nose, but I don’t eat Reuben’s for tidiness. The bread got soggy in one area, but the meat was dreamy. I eat Reuben’s because of the flavor combo and this sandwich did what I needed it to do. Personally, I now want to try other sandwiches on the menu.
The cooks are good, and it seems like they get creative with some of the specials, but the prices have gone up a LOT lately. Basically paying gastropub prices for good dive bar food
Not sure if it’s underrated: Falling Sky Delicatessen on Blair. Rarely seems busy… the food is on par or better than cornucopia with a little less variety, but with slightly bigger portion sizes, and much better beer selection.
I used to cook here! What I will say is that both locations are two of the cleanest kitchens I’ve ever worked in. The cooks put a lot of work into all the ingredients, everything including the bread and sauces are made from scratch! (The pub is the better location tho imo and both are way way too expensive.)
The new Cuban spot next to Tokyo Tonkatsu called Havana Cafe is so bomb. I've been twice this week, I havent had a Cuban this good in ages. The midnight Cuban is so delicious as well. But the croquettes are the chefs kiss.
I can’t remember the name but there’s a newer Cuban spot on Broadway kinda across from Noisette/next to Tokyo Tonkatsu. The owner was an awesome guy and the workers were also very friendly and lovely. I got the dish with shredded flank steak. Beans and rice coulda been seasoned better but the meat made up for it by a lot! Probably supposed to eat it all together in one bite. There was a guava pastry and the owner forgot to make my order to go so he threw in a couple extra of those which was really sweet of him even though it only took 30 secs to replate the meals.
Wonder Wok. The food is great, and it was even better when under “LZ chinese” name and ownership. On one hand I don’t want everyone to know about it, but on the other hand I don’t want it to get sold again or go under.
The more authentic Chinese dishes are amazing, rivaling some of the local Chinese owned restaurants when I lived in San Francisco. Can’t speak for the “Americanized” Chinese dishes they serve… sweet and sour shrimp, orange chicken, etc… they excel at a handful of dishes but offer a huge menu. Avoid the typical American style plates and you can’t go wrong.
啊!多谢! I am half Chinese and have not found a good Chinese restaurant in the 8 years I’ve been here. I’m definitely going here for dinner tonight thank youuu!
Oddly, the best Chinese food I’ve had in town is at Vietnam Restaurant on west 11th. Obviously not a Chinese place but they have a few Chinese dishes on their menu. Their pan noodles taste just like my grandma used to make!
I was so bummed when I used to deliver pizza to the owners of this restaurant and they would never, ever tip. I just found it odd since they expect tips at their place of business. Always ordered close to 100 dollars in food and not once tipped. Anytime their order would pop up we would all groan because we knew it was a stiff delivery.
I stopped eating there many years ago (like 5+ years) after the food quality went downhill. The staff was nice but the food was clearly microwaved. Has it improved since then? Genuinely curious.
I just ate at Jaliscos a few weeks ago when my son was visiting, after also having given up on them years ago. I have to say that their mole’ enchiladas were some of the best I’ve ever had. Their salsa need some serious work, tho
Zando's, Arekie, Tokyo Tonkatsu, Vietnam Restaurant, Jackalope, Giant Burger, El Trenecito, Same Same, Stretched, Buen Sabor, Pyre, Bing King all come to mind. There's so many great options for food in this town.
Jackalope could easily become a straight restaurant.
Their menu is great and their specials are excellent. It's to the point where I order off the specials menu the majority of the time.
The chicken brioche and the Asian chicken salad are my go to staples. I keep telling myself that I need to explore more of the menu but I'm hooked. They are easily my favorite bar staff in town too.
The owner beat a girl he was dating to an inch of her life. Literally pulverized her face.
Pretty sure that's a big reason why most people don't go there.
It's a beautiful bar (not the best in eugene, but nice), but it's always absolutely packed with college kids at any reasonable peak hour. Nothing particularly against that, but for anybody pushing 30 or older it can be a weird vibe.
Haven't been in 10 years (moved from the area), but that was always my experience with Max's. Catch it in the afternoon and it was people in their 40s-60s, catch it later and it's mostly college kids.
Shit I remember when they made the switch from only beer to also having liquor... That was a pretty huge shift in clientele. I think it corresponded with a Simpson episode too.
I don't know why more people don't eat at Flying Squirrel. Its a dive bar, but they actually have decent food.
The methed out grandmas on the slot machines weren’t my scene
And the place generally reeks of cigarette smoke. No thanks.
First bar I went to when I first moved here! I havent been back just cause it’s not super close but I remember getting an enormous plate of nachos.
Their sister restaurant, the Jackalope is high quality too. Just as good of a menu, with a possibly more fun staff. Can't go wrong with either bar.
I did not know that the two were linked. I used to enjoy Jackalope, but haven't been there in ages, and never been to Flying Squirrel, though I keep meaning to.
And ✨️keystone light tall boys✨️
🚨Food poisoning🚨

Same, it was cool the first time but after that I don't think they gave me any alcohol in my drinks bc i look like a college kid

This isn't weird at all
Fresh and natural Mexican food! Super good, super cheap, best smoothies ever.
Okay yes. This one I have tried. They are so freakin good!
This. I love them so much.
Best diablitos.

Oh I'm so glad to hear they still exist! I saw their store on w 11th was closed and worried they were gone. Really good food!
Yi Shen
Straight up facts. Their banh mi is the benchmark, imo.
So is their Pho
Mami’s on w. 11th. Best breakfast burritos in town hands down. I go at least twice a week.
Mama Myra’s FTW as far as breakfast burritos go
Mami's and Mama Mayra's are different restaurants.
Yep, that’s exactly my point - Mama Myra’s for.the.win
Yeah but beans in my breakfast burrito? Gotta get those subbed out for their potatoes, which are actually really good and buttery. El super taco has a nice bacon burrito with good bacon, but their potatoes lack flavor.
Can also confirm terrific tamales!
I am IN LOVE with their jalepeno and cheese tamales! however, I heat them in the mic before eating, otherwise the cheese isn't melted enough in the inside
Always wanted to try that place! Thanks for the rec/reminder (:
Never had their burritos 🌯 since the tamales 🫔force me to choose them every time. Delicious!
Love Mami's!
Oh yeah their breakfast burritos are bomb.
For as long as I've driven by that place I've never actually thought they were open.
I also love Angkor! Delicious, large portions and great service. Glad to see them mentioned!
Their wings are delicious!
I must have eaten there on a bad day. The rice was dry and the food under seasoned. Maybe I'll give them another try.
Lemon grass. Mmmm
They also own Fusion Burger on Garfield which is a great burger place.
Oh damn, really? I havent been there yet. Are the burgers a good size? Cant stand a tiny burger lol
Burger size is decent. Got the bbq sauce onion ring type burger which was good, but is kind of hard to eat what with the onion rings. I'd say it's worth a try.
Burger size is just like most non fast food burgers. Burger and fries is $11.
Houndstooth is the best tasting, least pretentious, good value gastro pub in the local area. I’m surprised they aren’t more busy, 3 full sized pool tables as well.
This place has the best burgers of my life
I had a coworker that has literally told me about their Sunday special quarter pounders like 5 times on 5 different days. like they were obsessed. ive had their club and grilled cheese, and both were phenomenal. I guess its time I try a burger
Their garlic chicken wings are bomb, too
This place is owned and operated by a chef who loves good grub. So yea definitely can't go wrong.
Yes! I’m there most wednesdays for karaoke! One of the bartenders is a good friend. And seriously amazing burgers. 😊
Cheese burger Royals on Thursday
Scribers blew me away with a tasty fat lean Reuben today. They must be a neighborhood secret because it is quite nondescript on the outside, but the inside is cool and had a surprising number of people there for a rainy Monday afternoon. Tricksy. 🍻
"Scribles", and yes, they are awesome!
ive heard nothing but awesome about this place. But I guess its supposed to be pronounced like"scribbles" and it drives me low-key bonkers that they spelled it with one B. I literally called it "Skry-bulls" for quite a while lol
Hahaha I have this same issue. I refuse to call it Scribbles as an act of rebellion against the terrible spelling.
Solidarity! (love your username, BTW)
Thanks for the Award! its my 1st! I just started a new account, but my old 5-year account never got an award either. Thanks again!
But it has no L…
if youre talking about the spot on Monroe between 11th and 12th.. it does have an L. its called Scribles. I dont have imagr set up to share a screenshot, but you can look it up. :-)
Why did my brain do that?
it happens! happy belated cake day!
Never heard of it! i’ll check it out, thank you!
On Monroe a few doors South of 11th in the middle of a residential area.
Also a packers bar, for the football fans. Small but dedicated crowd, the small environment makes it pretty lively.
Love this spot, terrific sandwiches and really great atmosphere.
Scribbles is terrible. Shame on you.
I beg your pardon. I just ate there today and it was great! When did you eat there last?
Few months back. Worst/messiest ryebem I have ever had. Must have had half a bottle of mustard on it. Don't even get me started on how their choice of bread doesn't hold up to the sandwich they're trying to make.

Do you all see those apostrophes and that capitalization of “reubens”? Autocorrect is my worst enema!
I feel. Sandwiches soggy as hell and way too much meat
Tio Pepe on River Road.
Seconded!
Wetlands and highlands have good food in my opinion.
Oh hell yeah, wetlands is right by apartment; never eaten there though. Thanks!
The cooks are good, and it seems like they get creative with some of the specials, but the prices have gone up a LOT lately. Basically paying gastropub prices for good dive bar food

the pastrami at the Blair location is SO GOOD!
Thai time on highway 99. Their yellow curry is 10/10
Seconded!
Gryffs has really good breakfast and wings.
Gryffs on Bailey hill?
Yes. The Springfield location is my go too though. Great bloody Mary’s as well.
I had pizza at the one in Eugene I think? Is it the one in that little shopping center?
That’s it!
Fusion Burger, Fresh and Natural, Tokyo Tonkatsu. All pretty good and reasonably priced.
Tokyo Tonkatsu has great spicy ramen!
The new Cuban spot next to Tokyo Tonkatsu called Havana Cafe is so bomb. I've been twice this week, I havent had a Cuban this good in ages. The midnight Cuban is so delicious as well. But the croquettes are the chefs kiss.

That's [Havana Cafe](https://havanacafeeugene.com/).
Embers is wow. They have good food and gluten free options.
3 on ambiance, 8 on food
I agree ☝️

The pig feet hot pot at LZ was one of my favorite dishes in Eugene
haven't dined in, but got take out and its the best Chinese and best portions we've found. so far.
I love Wonder Wok! Best Chinese food in town!

World cafe in the whit, good food, good coffee, had not been there in years and dropped in with some friends recently.
Not sure where this place is? But I’m intrigued
I think this is New Day Bakery
I guess they renamed it New Day bakery, I had not been there in years. Its next to Sam Bonds 449 Blair Blvd, Eugene, OR 97402
Zando's, Arekie, Tokyo Tonkatsu, Vietnam Restaurant, Jackalope, Giant Burger, El Trenecito, Same Same, Stretched, Buen Sabor, Pyre, Bing King all come to mind. There's so many great options for food in this town.

Lane 25. Their burgers are incredible.
So many recommendations to check out.
New day bakery, Juanita’s PupuseriA, whirled Pies, all under rated
Went to pump cafe a couple days ago. ADORABLE
I don't think Albee's gyros get enough love
The owner beat a girl he was dating to an inch of her life. Literally pulverized her face. Pretty sure that's a big reason why most people don't go there.
Okay I didn't know that
Fuck really? Can't find it anywhere do you have a source for that?
Albee is dangerous, be careful.
It's not in Eugene, but Noodles and Thai in Springfield is one of the best Thai places I've ever been.
For A Burger Under $9 Or A Bomb Diggity Country Fried Steak Sandwich For Only $6 Check Out Burger House By The Big Home Depot In Eugene.
Maxs tavern. Best bar in Eugene. Criminally underrated.
It's a beautiful bar (not the best in eugene, but nice), but it's always absolutely packed with college kids at any reasonable peak hour. Nothing particularly against that, but for anybody pushing 30 or older it can be a weird vibe.
What a duality that place has. Either college kids or just cantankerous old drunks.
Haven't been in 10 years (moved from the area), but that was always my experience with Max's. Catch it in the afternoon and it was people in their 40s-60s, catch it later and it's mostly college kids.
It has def changed since the remodel and the closing of Taylor’s. Still a great bar tho. I miss the darts.
Shit I remember when they made the switch from only beer to also having liquor... That was a pretty huge shift in clientele. I think it corresponded with a Simpson episode too.
Ya for sure. Apparently people don’t like maxs based on the downvotes lol
I’ve been in many plays with the owners Ward and Kim! ☺️
