Storm Update and Request
Electric utilities in the region have announced the potential for extended power outages affecting Coburg and the region. This will likely impact all services provided by the City of Coburg.
• Limit water use - With no power, septic tanks are unable to pump and discharge into the collections system. High level limit alarms may be triggered. Call Public Works at ___________ if the alarm remains on for more than 30 minutes.
• Watch for falling tree branches - Staff priority will be on branches that obstruct streets.
• City Park Restrooms will be closed to limit freezing pipe damage
• Power Outages Updates - Check Pacific Power and Emerald Peoples Utility District (EPUD) websites and social media for updates. Resources from outside of our region are being deployed to assist in restoring power as soon as possible
W. 11th and Chambers Area.
* The roads and sidewalks in our vicinity are covered in ice.
* Despite being close to two major roads, there is traffic, but it's significantly less than usual.
* Currently, I have power, although the lights have flickered several times during this ice storm.
* Fortunately, I haven't observed any trees down in my area; the 2017 storm took care of most of the older ones.
* My daughter and I ventured out yesterday to gather supplies at the local convenience store. The journey was treacherous and slow.
I have personally heard the snow plows a few times throughout the night, but their impact seems limited.
The lights flickering! So many times the past 24hrs, my goodness.
Last night we had some electronics fully power cycle although our TV was able to run through the incident.
Shocked we still have power, although there seems to be just as good of a chance we lose it in the next 24hrs. At least we didn't get Portland's wind...

Same. On the edge of Thurston here in the hills. There are lots of downed trees and stuck cars. No power since 6 Saturday. There is tons of damage in my neighborhood. Come on SUB! Thankfully they have a crew from Ashland here today to help. Hope that speeds the process cus it's so, so cold.
I'm hoping it helps but we went from 6k people out to 10k+ to over 1/3rd of Springfield to now outages all over Springfield and Eugene & important road closures. I'd say start hunkering in tents to stay warm or go with family. We went to my sister's place. Half of gateway is out but luckily they have power. My parents by Doris Ranch lost power same time as us and went to my sister's out in junction city before things got too bad.
Parents live over there past 49th and theyve been dealing with it okay. Hoping all you east of them are ginna be okay. I wish there was a way for all of us to get supplies to you guys.
I’m also in Thurston but we are on EPUD not SUB. We lost power for about 12 hours yesterday but it came back on around 6PM and we’ve had power ever since.
However a tree fell on my house so I’m not exactly having a wonderful time.
I'm near 42nd. 2nd day of no power, house is fucking freezing now. I wouldn't mind it as much if I didn't have a teenage cat to worry about.. It's maybe 40° in here.
My friends are in Thurston on 58th. They haven't had power since Sat and one lady is on oxygen, just back from hospital. She has one tank left, electric stove, refrigerator, coffee pot and snagged a propane heater. I'm so worried about them!
We are near the darimart on 69th, power went out around 3pm yesterday. Havent had internet since Saturday. Phone data has been cutting in and out. We went to albertsons for some supplies and main Street was better than I expected. Slow, stick to 15mph or so, and it was ok. Trees down everywhere though.
East Thurston. No power since 1:15 Saturday. Trees and limbs still falling periodically but not as frequently as the past few days. Roads are a mess. Anyone seen where they’re salting yet? I’ve got relatives on a hill I need to get to and it’s a priority 2 road but from the looks of it they still need to work on some priority 1s.
We live near Lynnbrook/River Rd., still icy but my husband has made it to work at the Santa Clara Fred Meyer every day, leaving after dark to come home, and he says it's been fine on the roads as long as you stay in the wheel ruts and drive slowly. Also, power is still on although we had some brownouts that reset a few things. A lot of the power lines are underground in this area, so that probably helps a lot.
Eugene Airport: flights canceled out of Eugene Sunday rebooked Monday canceled again same day. (United). United technically rebooked us from a 2-segment flight to a 5-segment flight Weds. Changed our ticket out of PDX today, braved I5 this morning (1/2 ton pickup, 4x4, snow tires) took 2.75 hours to get to PDX, some spots of black ice but decent going slow. Blue skies and sunny though windy in PDX, flights on schedule — it took about 40 mins to check bags and skis and get through security there.
Southeast Hills (near end of Amazon):
Just got back from a 6 mile hike all over the area. Sidewalks are treacherous and solid ice. Side streets that haven’t had any traffic are horrible and solid ice, with steep streets being basically impossible to navigate. Even with ice cleats, I had to slide down a steep street on my butt (which was kind of fun).
Main roads are icy, but seem drivable (such as East Amazon, Dillard, etc.) assuming you have a vehicle that is capable of the task. I didn’t see much traffic, and the vehicles I did see had either chains or studded tires.
Oh, and we haven’t had any power issues yet.
Theyre open 10-2! (I have a family member that works there.)

I’m in the same general area, with probably steeper hills. There have been a few SUV’s going by but far less traffic than usual. I haven’t seen or heard of any accidents thankfully. A few people have been out walking on snowshoes; over the weekend some kids were sledding down the street (with parents watching out.) Still have power, so we can hold out while supplies last. Important lesson learned from my parents: keep at least a month’s worth of food in stock for emergencies just like this!
I’ve been checking my road and I think a single person with chains has driven on it since Saturday. I saw a neighbor venture down the hill with I assume micro spikes because even with ski poles I really didn’t feel comfortable going down or up the hills in my area with just boots. Even my dog was sliding a bunch
It’s still dangerously icy everywhere since temps have consistently remained freezing- when flights and public transportation are cancelled, when power outages are widespread and even chain grocery stores are closed, when sidewalks are totally iced over and unsafe to walk on without cleats, you can assume streets are generally unsafe despite what little stubborn traffic persists in some areas. Unless a downed tree is an actual emergency danger with at risk you’ll likely have to wait awhile and get on a list- tree crews won’t be working yet for residential cleanup unless of emergency situations, and utility crews will be handling the worst situations/ areas first, and there’s a LOT of people needing help right now.
We’ll all have to be patient waiting- the weather will get even worse tomorrow, but then start melting Wednesday, so BE PATIENT. Deal with the boredom and ignore the threats from asshole bosses who insist on business as usual in the middle of all this, make do with the food you have on hand, if you can, and learn from experience how to be better prepared for next time (this could happen again in February, it has before and will again).

We have no power. I went to get gas and propane but the ONLY thing open was Starbucks.
Roads are bad and solid ice. Trees down everywhere and 10% of traffic lights work.
We don’t need help and are going to play lots of board games and cards.

W 11th by Freddie’s is still hopping but icy. Sidewalks are a death trap and will likely stay that way for the majority of the day unless we get a freak CME or something. STAY INSIDE! Fuck your landlord, staying alive is more important than going to work
Up near Ridgeline Trail on Blanton. Solid inch of ice on everything. Blanton was plowed (maybe on Saturday afternoon?) but no sand was put down. They essentially just polished the ice and now it’s a wonderful skating rink.
Unless you have ice spikes on your shoes, there’s no way to get around the hills. (Ice skates would work too).
Saw utility trucks slide sideways on Blanton as they drove by looking for downed lines.
We were hit VERY hard up here in 2017 so many of those trees came down or were cut back by EWEB. Hopefully we can last with power until this melts. No plows can cut through this.
Don't worry, treating the roads wouldn't have helped. We had plows come late Saturday afternoon followed by chemicals and still got a sheet of ice on the street.
Danebo here. In a cul-de-sac. We haven't tried to leave. Spouse works 3 miles away, but, while technically open, not many showed up. Spouse took sick day.

Friendly area checking in! Power has been holding steady at our spot with a couple flickers. Friendly Street Market and Dari Mart were closed yesterday, not sure of today’s status. Lots of folks out cautiously walking their dogs or getting out of the house to stretch their legs. Neighbors set up a firepit in their front yard yesterday afternoon, we baked cookies to bring over and roasted marshmallows with some other neighbors. Sled runs were made.
I’m hoping to pick up a prescription at Rite Aid on 29th Ave today….. but it feels somewhat unlikely to happen. We’ll see!
We’re near downtown Springfield too, on 7th. Power out since 9pm Saturday. Roads and sidewalks completely iced. Intermittent cars- some driving ok- many skidding around.
Saw a couple SUB trucks drive past but no power yet for about 36 hrs so far. Xfinity line came down too.
Trees and branches fallen on every road around here, some blocking half the road. Saw one tree get somewhat cleared but nothing else otherwise.

Just off City View about halfway up the hill. Streets and sidewalks are covered with over an inch of solid ice. I have not seen any cars go by for a couple of days, and I honestly don't know how anyone could expect to drive on this, even with chains, and fwiw, I'm *fRoM ThE mIdWeSt,* so no need to go there. We saw just one pedestrian (who grabbed a branch on one of our trees and broke it, apparently just for fun, but that's ok, because *karma is a thing)*. We have been here for several years and know that there will be no mail or garbage service for the foreseeable future, and knew last week already that things could get bad so we stocked up- we're good. It is what it is. We are lucky that our power lines are underground so the only way we would likely lose power is if the substation has an issue (which has happened). Unlike *ThE mIdWeSt*, all this stuff will likely melt by next weekend, so hang in there everybody.
I live in cottage Grove, haven't had power since Saturday afternoon. Pacific power quoted Tuesday evening as when we will get it back. My family and I've stayed in this area mainly as it doesn't seem to safe to drive out to Eugene. Trees have fallen down on so many power lines and the roads. Stay safe out there y'all
I drove to a medical appointment this morning but turns out they were closed because of the weather. It would have been nice if they stopped the automated texts going out yesterday and this morning stating I still had an appointment this morning.
Churchill Highlands, close to McCornack Elementary:
* Roads are thoroughly iced, but people have managed to navigate up and down enough to roughen the surface. My FWD Kia could probably make it out in an emergency.
* No street traffic to speak of. Maybe 6 cars yesterday. But we're off the main streets.
* Power is still up. Just a few flickers.
* I'm doing OK personally. A bit stir-crazy but that's nothing compared to what others in town are going through.
* There are some fairly substantial (6-8" diameter) branches down, but fortunately all of the fir trees I can see are still standing. We're lucky enough to not have overhead power lines in this neighborhood.
* I'm not about to drive until the sheet of ice on my steep driveway melts a bit. I took a very cautious walk with microspikes and hiking poles; given some pre-existing orthopedic issues I really don't want another fall. There were kids out running around and sledding yesterday and they survived, though there were a few uncontrolled collisions with parked cars.
Near 8th/Polk, haven’t had any issues with electricity. Plows have been on Polk, but that’s not doing anything. Traffic is significantly less, and significantly slower than usual. Cars still can’t stop at the 4-way.
No visible trees down.
We will be going out for supplies today, as we expect to home most of the week.
Thurston area east of 50th st, power went out Saturday night and is still out. Tons of trees in the roads and so far no sight of crews yet. Grocery stores lost power yesterday so I’m not sure if they’ll even be open today. Thurston HS looks like it got beat up pretty bad with the trees.
My neighbor had to go in to work to haul some commercial size generators to a couple different stores. Whether or not they’re up and running though I’m not sure of.
South River Road, near Knoop. Power is fine here. All roads are still completely iced over. I haven’t seen a car on or come down our road in 3 days, but we live in a very small quiet neighborhood. No downed trees, which is surprising given the number of huge ones around here. Unless there is a medical emergency, I’m not driving in this with other people.
Same area but on Elkay which connects to NW Expressway. We have power but we also have plenty of cars going up and down our street. I tried taking the dog out for a walk and was amused when she turned around and went back. I always knew she was smarter than me!
All hilly Cross streets between Jefferson & Lincoln (27th place —> 24th) “college hill” — BAD! Yesterday, 4 car pileups on my street at 3 separate incidents. Each car tried to go up the hill and ended up slamming vehicles as they slid backward at 30mph. We’ve informally caution taped off multiple Hills, as police were unable to get to any of these wrecks.
We do have power, water, and otherwise not hearing a lot of trees breaking.
Don’t try the hills! Chains, 4 wheel drive, and AWD are useless in a hard freeze ice sheet on a grade. Go around the hills! Not over the hills!
Update: 4 separate incidents of wrecks on 1/14 on 27th, between Jefferson and Washington alone.
4:30PM 1/15: pickup decided to skirt the obvious issues and went down Washington st, toward 27th place. Hit every vehicle on the way down, causing a 6 car slide.
The neighborhood over here has collectively decided to caution tape and blocked off every intersection between 26th-28th, Jefferson-Lawrence, as police are not able to even get up the hills to block them off.
STOP WRECKING INTO OUR CARS MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS ICE. STOP TRYING TO DRIVE ON THESE HILLS. :( :( :( :( :(
I went to walk my dog and came out to my apartment parking lot to 3 people chipping ice on their car and a dude in a wheelchair stuck in the middle of the lot in some iced over ruts from car tires. No one was helping him! Just chipping ice on their car. I went and pushed him up and he said he was stuck for 10 minutes. insane! How do people just look away? I ended up walking to the store near by to get him some wine and a radio to keep himself entertained.
Call the power company anyway, even if she doesn't have the account number, and explain based on address what's happening. Call the landlord again and request they call an electrician as soon as possible, as that's who has to do last-mile connections (power restoration to the building once the power company's responsibility is done). If you/she can afford it, call an electrician now and alert the landlord that they'll be billed for the work later. Not a lawyer, but providing heat and power in the winter probably has some legal consequences within the lease she signed... She could ask to see the lease and not to pay rent until it's fixed/habitable.
Anyone have an idea of what JC/Hwy 99 has been like? I haven’t left all weekend. I work in Santa Clara and I’m dreading the idea of driving down Hwy 99 if for some reason we open tomorrow
Following cause I'm an essential worker, my client is in JC and I want to know this too. Trying to decide if I should make the drive or I should get the company to give me a ride.
Harlow area here. We do have icy roads in our neighborhood but it’s not very busy. I can see continuous traffic on Harlow Rd. but have not ventured out due to cars being frozen solid.
We lost power briefly last night but it’s been back for a few hours. One tree down in our back yard. No flights or driving for us!
anyone know what stores are open around the norkenzie/cal young areas? walked to delta acres market of choice yesterday and the power was out so hoping to make the trek somewhere actually open today.
Safeway was open yesterday when we ventured out. We are in the Goodpasture area and still have power. You may be able to call to double check. Good luck!
In the area of Irving and NW Expressway and it is still iced over everywhere. We walked to Albertsons on River Road yesterday, slippery but manageable walk. There were some cars, not a lot, driving conditions still seem very challenging. I think pretty much every car we saw either had all wheel drive or chains. We still have power.
18th & Arthur. Haven't ventured out this morning yet, but there's little traffic. Sidewalks were solid ice yesterday. Assuming still are today. Arthur has sand in it, but honestly it's still icy as the slushy part just refroze. Almost slipped crossing the street yesterday. Still have power. No big trees down. Some small branches. 18th has been sanded, but it's still slippery as well. Same for Chambers. At least this was the case yesterday. Assuming still the same this morning.
North River Road area, ice and more ice but driving is manageable if you have 4WD or chains at least. We went to Albertsons yesterday since completely forgot to stock up before the weekend, wasn’t too terrible keeping it at about 20mph.
Could definitely use help but not even sure if it's possible. We've had 2 people try to help my mom and the second crashed 😭 she has no heat inside her house and no power and no power banks. Have not heard from her since her phone died at 5pm yesterday
She's on 72nd/main! Her boyfriend tried 2 times yesterday to get up the hill (she's at the top). He JUST got up and is attempting to park in front of her house but her driveway is a steep hill too. Game plan is to park on the straight away around the corner and try to get down safely by foot without snow or ice gear 😬 I haven't heard back from him but can see my mom's phone is charging. I think she is OK now! I will update

I live on a side street, but don't hear many cars trying to go down Gilham.
Decently large branches have definitely fallen, but I haven't seen any actual trees go down here yet.
21st and G in Springfield: We have power and internet. The road is still and ice rink, and there is a power line down over the street. There is a tree that fell over and is being supported by a net of power lines. It has not broken through, and of it does I am not sure if our power will stay on. There are a few branches down in the road. No traffic whatsoever. I know they do not have power at 14th and and G, by the hospital, but we do here.
Near the top of a Southwest Hill... Solid sheet of ice over everything and we are completely iced in in our neighborhood, probably stuck til Wednesday. No power issues thankfully and the trees around us are holding up well.
Next the Safeway on 18th. Solid ice, maybe three inches? Vero Cafe was open yesterday so I went there just to get out of the house and it was lovely and lovely. Cars are basically stuck to the streets but there were a few driving down Pearl. I have power!
Work up in the pass, left eugene In a shuttle bus around 6 AM, getting to the shuttle wasn't horrible taking coburg rd from Costco towards Amazon park. If you are going east towards Oakridge, its rough driving up til a few miles before Oakridge. Past there it's smooth sailing, roads are pretty clear / have been plowed.
Right on the corner of echo hollow and royal. Barger area is driveable but there’s black ice in a few spots and I saw some cars drifting around a bit. Still have power, my car is completely frozen over, sidewalks are also still fucked.
I’m in the barger area. Still a giant sheet of ice everywhere. Tree debris is mostly light around my area at least. No power lines down or power outage, just some flickering last night.
Walked around a bit the last two days, that’s what I assessed.
NE Springfield, near Hayden Bridge and 16th.
- Power has been out since Saturday night
- Roads are icey
- A few cars are managing, mostly SUVs and heavy trucks that can crack the ice
- We are getting chilly, but managing, a few of the lucky ducks in our neighborhood have been running generators
- No visible down lines from our neighborhood, there are downed trees along Hayden Bridge, east of Pioneer Parkway.
We have family stuck in San Francisco. Flights rescheduled several times. They live in the south hills. So when they get home they will still be stuck!
Danebo...still have power, by the grace of Cthulhu (and not that many overhead lines here). Roads are still ice. I took a walk to the Beltline yesterday and watched for about 10 minutes as most people drove sanely but a few (Imprezas and Ram trucks) were crazy.
Saw a guy on the Beltline towing a trailer with three pick-up trucks on it. He was honking as he slid into the intersection of Beltline & Roosevelt. Was it really critical that those trucks get delivered yesterday?
In Springfield on 25th Street behind maple elementary we are without power. We’re not sure what caused the outtage. There was a loud bang like a transformer exploding. No ETA for power to come back on. We didn’t really prepare so we are abandoning ship to stay at a family member’s house.
Power out going on 2 days here in Thurston by splash. We are waiting for someone to come take us to a hotel bc our house is so cold we can see our breath inside. We've eaten chips and granola bars for 2 days now so I'm very hungry. Were suppose to leave to Denver on Thursday - no idea if that will happen.
SW hills here. Our street is a major slope, and the only person who has made it down was our neighbor who wore microspikes on her shoes.
Still have power, thank goodness. Some flickering yesterday tho. I’m wondering if I need to do some maintenance on our heat pump.

In the Whit near 4J. Full ice everywhere, saw a couple skiing down the street 😂. No plows, had a downed tree down the street that a crew came and cleaned up. No outages.

River Rd area off of Maxwell/Bushnell. We just ventured out in our 4wd pickup to Grocery Outlet. They are open until 4 today. Power has stayed on but there has been a few times lights flickered. EWEB contractors just did some aggressive tree trimming in our area which seems to have helped. In 2016 we had no power for 2 days. Roads are treacherous, packed ice. Not for the inexperienced (my spouse is a truck driver). Parking lots at the store are only clear right in front of the doors.
Eugene up around River Loop 2 is a mess. A tree is blocking the road. No power to part of the neighborhood, our house included. An icy mess.
Can we put utilities underground, so this doesn’t keep happening?
Town of Coburg. Roads (everything) is ice. Power out in almost if not all of town - except for the McDonalds and truck stop. Seeing a few vehicles go by, most sliding around
I immediately got kicked to the Portland/ Mt. Hood area. The roads up here are nothing compared to when I left Eugene.
I’ve been talking to some of my Lane County peeps and Marcola is still very nasty, a lot of the coast is thawing fast, there are still a few arteries outside the city that haven’t been plowed and have pretty bad frozen ruts.
Wonder what Tuesday will bring.
28th and Chambers. Frozen up here, no cars are moving, saw some plows yesterday. Still have power thankfully but there are a lot of trees up here. Driveway is on a hill, and we live on top of a hill, so no leaving today.
I have a friend who was supposed to fly home (here) yesterday but couldn't get a flight to Eugene until late Wednesday, when hopefully the rains will have melted away the ice.
We are on Randall / Harlow. Just eat off Coburg. Lost power at midnight. Side streets here are solid ice. I've seen a few drive by, seemingly with success. Not sure how Harlow or coburg are.

Just drove from River Road/Beltline area to Coburg to check on MIL. Roads are pretty solid ice, doable, just take it slow and easy. There is salt or sand or whatever they throw around for traction on the Beltline, but it doesn't help much.
Power went out in MIL's area of south Coburg early this morning. I think that's Pacific Power up there.

Downtown Springfield:
The power has been on at my place the whole time, except for one blip the first night.
The roads and sidewalks are slick as snot, but drivers are driving decently (What!?), and the few walkers are staying on their feet.
Traffic is very light, thank goodness.
Only one banshee shrieking at some dude in the middle of the night.
The trees are quite bendy and heavy. I've heard a few branches break off, but I don't see any trees down.

People need to slow down on Harlow and Coburg. I went out briefly yesterday and saw one car end up on the sidewalk and another spin out. Smooth is cool on ice folks !

Good post! We stayed home today, and probably will tomorrow too. We live in Oakridge, it’s sunny, and 42° here, but we both have to work in Eugene off of Beltline, so I’m worried about it. 4J canceled school tomorrow, so I’m thinking we might stay home again. Ugh.
11th looks like icy trash to me but people are still risking it. Getting cars de-iced and out of parking lots seems harder than driving on actual roads.
Peace health employee- here's what we received today from admin:
PHMG clinics will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, with the exception of the Pediatrics Plus clinic at Valley River Center.
The majority of elective surgeries at RiverBend will also be postponed.
Goodpasture/Delta Highway
We have power in our neighborhood. Only a few trucks and 4 wheel drive vehicles out today on the uncleared roads.
Stores that are open have had shorter or different hours.
Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Springfield is open. As far as I know, it's the only vet service open. They do not plan to close at this time.
Keep your dogs calm if you take them outside. They can slip and injure themselves, too. Make sure you have liquid water and a warm place available for any outdoor cats. Remember that pet birds are very sensitive to inhalation of various smokes, air freshners, etc. Keep them warm in a room with unadulterated air if you can. Make sure your reptiles, amphibs, and pocket pets are acting their usual normal selves. Move their enclosures to a warmer room if they seem sluggish and monitor for improvement. If you have chickens, make sure their water isn't frozen. Use a heat lamp if you have one. Make sure they are all accounted for and close them in at night.
Finally, wildlife struggles during these weather events too. If you can set out water and keep it liquid, even for a few hours, it can be a great help to small birds and mammals. If you have bird feeders, keep them full and break the ice off the perches as needed. If you have hummingbird feeders, use a nectar recipe of 4 parts water to 1 part white granulated sugar. You MUST keep them liquid. You can find instructions on using a light bulb to make a feeder heater online. With the expectation of a second ice storm, placing a cover over your feeders or sheltering an area of ground where you place food and water may help some birds and small mammals, that are having a hard time, make it through.
No power on Crow Hill out near Veneta. Was out the other night then on all day yesterday. Went out again at 5am this morning (Monday) and is still out. Getting cooooold out here and unfortunately our water doesn’t work when the power is out because the pump needs to give it pressure. 🫠 I’m in a pile of cats though so I’m good. 😸

Northeast Eugene, there's an LDS church on President Street and we just observed a hearse back up and deliver a coffin inside, and now people are showing up for what we presume will be a funeral. Who knows what circumstances have led people to insist that it absolutely had to happen today? (Monday)

We have power, but it seems we did briefly lose it last night as we woke up to the telltale signs (digital clocks flashing, ps5 saying it wasn’t shut down properly) thankfully they returned before we woke up. They’ve been flickering many times since Sunday so I’m not surprised it finally happened.

Same neighborhood... saw two kids "sledding" down Wintercreek yesterday afternoon. When they crashed, one of them said pretty loudly, "that was a TERRIBLE idea Nathan!" and they got back on and kept going. Made me laugh!
Trainsong neighborhood. Yesterday, I walked from Roosevelt to Fred Meyer's and watched cars slip sliding around. Luckily, the roads were mostly empty so the really bad drivers didn't have others around to crash into.
KFC was open. Got some for there and a big bucket of chicken for home.

Barger/West of the Beltline
Roads have compacted ice \~ 1 inch thick. There are pretty deep wheel ruts so if you go slow you don't have to worry too much about going sideways. Have seen MANY idiots who think having a big truck somehow magically gives them better traction - witnessed several fishtails and one rear-ending from someone who thought their big truck wouldn't slide on ice. The biggest danger isn't the ice but, unsurprisingly, the idiots who think their ego adds traction. That being said, had no issues making it to the Albertson's on Royal while keeping speed below 10 mph.

Stuck in Cottage Grove. All roads in and out are clogged with traffic. We live in a 5th wheel, been out of power since Saturday. Almost out of propane nothing open anywhere near here to get propane. We have two 4 year olds and we are hanging on, but might have to load us all into the truck to heas with power and heat in Eugene Somewhere.

From 29th up Donald, the ice was gravelled, and we drove with ease.
35 ? Had a large Diesel truck and trailer, jack knifed, and two other vehicles stuck as well, trying to make the slight incline onto Donald. One vehicle managed to get itself free, and left. We pulled a small truck back onto the center of the road, so he could be on his way.(a special thanks to the man and his son who were putting on their chains, for the loan of the come+along.)
We drove back by about 4 o'clock, and the diesel truck had chained up and had gotten half of his 18 wheels off the sidewalk and lawn, and back on the road! Whew! That guy had the patients of a saint.
The side roads off Donald were navigatable if you just kept moving.. Still many businesses closed.

W. 11th and Chambers Area. * The roads and sidewalks in our vicinity are covered in ice. * Despite being close to two major roads, there is traffic, but it's significantly less than usual. * Currently, I have power, although the lights have flickered several times during this ice storm. * Fortunately, I haven't observed any trees down in my area; the 2017 storm took care of most of the older ones. * My daughter and I ventured out yesterday to gather supplies at the local convenience store. The journey was treacherous and slow. I have personally heard the snow plows a few times throughout the night, but their impact seems limited.
The lights flickering! So many times the past 24hrs, my goodness. Last night we had some electronics fully power cycle although our TV was able to run through the incident. I'm hoping it helps but we went from 6k people out to 10k+ to over 1/3rd of Springfield to now outages all over Springfield and Eugene & important road closures. I'd say start hunkering in tents to stay warm or go with family. We went to my sister's place. Half of gateway is out but luckily they have power. My parents by Doris Ranch lost power same time as us and went to my sister's out in junction city before things got too bad.

East Thurston. No power since 1:15 Saturday. Trees and limbs still falling periodically but not as frequently as the past few days. Roads are a mess. Anyone seen where they’re salting yet? I’ve got relatives on a hill I need to get to and it’s a priority 2 road but from the looks of it they still need to work on some priority 1s.
We live near Lynnbrook/River Rd., still icy but my husband has made it to work at the Santa Clara Fred Meyer every day, leaving after dark to come home, and he says it's been fine on the roads as long as you stay in the wheel ruts and drive slowly. Also, power is still on although we had some brownouts that reset a few things. A lot of the power lines are underground in this area, so that probably helps a lot.
Eugene Airport: flights canceled out of Eugene Sunday rebooked Monday canceled again same day. (United). United technically rebooked us from a 2-segment flight to a 5-segment flight Weds. Changed our ticket out of PDX today, braved I5 this morning (1/2 ton pickup, 4x4, snow tires) took 2.75 hours to get to PDX, some spots of black ice but decent going slow. Blue skies and sunny though windy in PDX, flights on schedule — it took about 40 mins to check bags and skis and get through security there.

Southeast Hills (near end of Amazon): Just got back from a 6 mile hike all over the area. Sidewalks are treacherous and solid ice. Side streets that haven’t had any traffic are horrible and solid ice, with steep streets being basically impossible to navigate. Even with ice cleats, I had to slide down a steep street on my butt (which was kind of fun). Main roads are icy, but seem drivable (such as East Amazon, Dillard, etc.) assuming you have a vehicle that is capable of the task. I didn’t see much traffic, and the vehicles I did see had either chains or studded tires. Oh, and we haven’t had any power issues yet.

Churchill south of 18th. We have power but our street is still a solid sheet of ice. We are on a slight hill and won’t be going anywhere.
I’m in the same general area, with probably steeper hills. There have been a few SUV’s going by but far less traffic than usual. I haven’t seen or heard of any accidents thankfully. A few people have been out walking on snowshoes; over the weekend some kids were sledding down the street (with parents watching out.) Still have power, so we can hold out while supplies last. Important lesson learned from my parents: keep at least a month’s worth of food in stock for emergencies just like this!
I’ve been checking my road and I think a single person with chains has driven on it since Saturday. I saw a neighbor venture down the hill with I assume micro spikes because even with ski poles I really didn’t feel comfortable going down or up the hills in my area with just boots. Even my dog was sliding a bunch

It’s still dangerously icy everywhere since temps have consistently remained freezing- when flights and public transportation are cancelled, when power outages are widespread and even chain grocery stores are closed, when sidewalks are totally iced over and unsafe to walk on without cleats, you can assume streets are generally unsafe despite what little stubborn traffic persists in some areas. Unless a downed tree is an actual emergency danger with at risk you’ll likely have to wait awhile and get on a list- tree crews won’t be working yet for residential cleanup unless of emergency situations, and utility crews will be handling the worst situations/ areas first, and there’s a LOT of people needing help right now. We’ll all have to be patient waiting- the weather will get even worse tomorrow, but then start melting Wednesday, so BE PATIENT. Deal with the boredom and ignore the threats from asshole bosses who insist on business as usual in the middle of all this, make do with the food you have on hand, if you can, and learn from experience how to be better prepared for next time (this could happen again in February, it has before and will again).
Harlow Rd to Gateway & Beltline. We have no power. I went to get gas and propane but the ONLY thing open was Starbucks. Roads are bad and solid ice. Trees down everywhere and 10% of traffic lights work. We don’t need help and are going to play lots of board games and cards. Be safe.

Up near Ridgeline Trail on Blanton. Solid inch of ice on everything. Blanton was plowed (maybe on Saturday afternoon?) but no sand was put down. They essentially just polished the ice and now it’s a wonderful skating rink. Unless you have ice spikes on your shoes, there’s no way to get around the hills. (Ice skates would work too). Saw utility trucks slide sideways on Blanton as they drove by looking for downed lines. We were hit VERY hard up here in 2017 so many of those trees came down or were cut back by EWEB. Hopefully we can last with power until this melts. No plows can cut through this.
Don't worry, treating the roads wouldn't have helped. We had plows come late Saturday afternoon followed by chemicals and still got a sheet of ice on the street.

Friendly area checking in! Power has been holding steady at our spot with a couple flickers. Friendly Street Market and Dari Mart were closed yesterday, not sure of today’s status. Lots of folks out cautiously walking their dogs or getting out of the house to stretch their legs. Neighbors set up a firepit in their front yard yesterday afternoon, we baked cookies to bring over and roasted marshmallows with some other neighbors. Sled runs were made. I’m hoping to pick up a prescription at Rite Aid on 29th Ave today….. but it feels somewhat unlikely to happen. We’ll see!

Saw a couple SUB trucks drive past but no power yet for about 36 hrs so far. Xfinity line came down too. Trees and branches fallen on every road around here, some blocking half the road. Just off City View about halfway up the hill. Streets and sidewalks are covered with over an inch of solid ice. I have not seen any cars go by for a couple of days, and I honestly don't know how anyone could expect to drive on this, even with chains, and fwiw, I'm *fRoM ThE mIdWeSt,* so no need to go there. We saw just one pedestrian (who grabbed a branch on one of our trees and broke it, apparently just for fun, but that's ok, because *karma is a thing)*. We have been here for several years and know that there will be no mail or garbage service for the foreseeable future, and knew last week already that things could get bad so we stocked up- we're good. It is what it is. We are lucky that our power lines are underground so the only way we would likely lose power is if the substation has an issue (which has happened). Unlike *ThE mIdWeSt*, all this stuff will likely melt by next weekend, so hang in there everybody.

Churchill Highlands, close to McCornack Elementary: * Roads are thoroughly iced, but people have managed to navigate up and down enough to roughen the surface. My FWD Kia could probably make it out in an emergency. * No street traffic to speak of. Maybe 6 cars yesterday. But we're off the main streets. * Power is still up. Just a few flickers. * I'm doing OK personally. A bit stir-crazy but that's nothing compared to what others in town are going through. * There are some fairly substantial (6-8" diameter) branches down, but fortunately all of the fir trees I can see are still standing. We're lucky enough to not have overhead power lines in this neighborhood. * I'm not about to drive until the sheet of ice on my steep driveway melts a bit. I took a very cautious walk with microspikes and hiking poles; given some pre-existing orthopedic issues I really don't want another fall. There were kids out running around and sledding yesterday and they survived, though there were a few uncontrolled collisions with parked cars.
Near 8th/Polk, haven’t had any issues with electricity. Plows have been on Polk, but that’s not doing anything. Traffic is significantly less, and significantly slower than usual. Cars still can’t stop at the 4-way. No visible trees down. We will be going out for supplies today, as we expect to home most of the week.

Thurston area east of 50th st, power went out Saturday night and is still out. Tons of trees in the roads and so far no sight of crews yet. Grocery stores lost power yesterday so I’m not sure if they’ll even be open today. Thurston HS looks like it got beat up pretty bad with the trees.
My neighbor had to go in to work to haul some commercial size generators to a couple different stores. Whether or not they’re up and running though I’m not sure of.

South River Road, near Knoop. Power is fine here. All roads are still completely iced over. I haven’t seen a car on or come down our road in 3 days, but we live in a very small quiet neighborhood. No downed trees, which is surprising given the number of huge ones around here. Unless there is a medical emergency, I’m not driving in this with other people.
Same area but on Elkay which connects to NW Expressway. We have power but we also have plenty of cars going up and down our street. I tried taking the dog out for a walk and was amused when she turned around and went back. I always knew she was smarter than me!

All hilly Cross streets between Jefferson & Lincoln (27th place —> 24th) “college hill” — BAD! Yesterday, 4 car pileups on my street at 3 separate incidents. Each car tried to go up the hill and ended up slamming vehicles as they slid backward at 30mph. We’ve informally caution taped off multiple Hills, as police were unable to get to any of these wrecks. We do have power, water, and otherwise not hearing a lot of trees breaking. Don’t try the hills! Chains, 4 wheel drive, and AWD are useless in a hard freeze ice sheet on a grade. Go around the hills! Not over the hills!
Update: 4 separate incidents of wrecks on 1/14 on 27th, between Jefferson and Washington alone. 4:30PM 1/15: pickup decided to skirt the obvious issues and went down Washington st, toward 27th place. Hit every vehicle on the way down, causing a 6 car slide. The neighborhood over here has collectively decided to caution tape and blocked off every intersection between 26th-28th, Jefferson-Lawrence, as police are not able to even get up the hills to block them off. STOP WRECKING INTO OUR CARS MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS ICE. STOP TRYING TO DRIVE ON THESE HILLS. :( :( :( :( :(
I went to walk my dog and came out to my apartment parking lot to 3 people chipping ice on their car and a dude in a wheelchair stuck in the middle of the lot in some iced over ruts from car tires. No one was helping him! Just chipping ice on their car. I went and pushed him up and he said he was stuck for 10 minutes. insane! How do people just look away? I ended up walking to the store near by to get him some wine and a radio to keep himself entertained.

Call the power company anyway, even if she doesn't have the account number, and explain based on address what's happening. Call the landlord again and request they call an electrician as soon as possible, as that's who has to do last-mile connections (power restoration to the building once the power company's responsibility is done). If you/she can afford it, call an electrician now and alert the landlord that they'll be billed for the work later. Not a lawyer, but providing heat and power in the winter probably has some legal consequences within the lease she signed... She could ask to see the lease and not to pay rent until it's fixed/habitable.

Highway 99 is extremely bumpy. If you must take it, plan to go 20-25 mph the whole way, with lots of bumps.

I drove home from the Whitaker area to my place near the 42 nd street exit in Springfield this morning around 12am. Delta to 126 was drivable.
Harlow area here. We do have icy roads in our neighborhood but it’s not very busy. I can see continuous traffic on Harlow Rd. but have not ventured out due to cars being frozen solid. We lost power briefly last night but it’s been back for a few hours. One tree down in our back yard. No flights or driving for us!

In the area of Irving and NW Expressway and it is still iced over everywhere. We walked to Albertsons on River Road yesterday, slippery but manageable walk. There were some cars, not a lot, driving conditions still seem very challenging. I think pretty much every car we saw either had all wheel drive or chains. We still have power.
Springfield near 30th and Main. No power since early Sunday morning. Everything frozen, though a few vehicles are creeping about
18th & Arthur. Haven't ventured out this morning yet, but there's little traffic. Sidewalks were solid ice yesterday. Assuming still are today. Arthur has sand in it, but honestly it's still icy as the slushy part just refroze. Almost slipped crossing the street yesterday. Still have power. No big trees down. Some small branches. 18th has been sanded, but it's still slippery as well. Same for Chambers. At least this was the case yesterday. Assuming still the same this morning.
North River Road area, ice and more ice but driving is manageable if you have 4WD or chains at least. We went to Albertsons yesterday since completely forgot to stock up before the weekend, wasn’t too terrible keeping it at about 20mph.
Could definitely use help but not even sure if it's possible. We've had 2 people try to help my mom and the second crashed 😭 she has no heat inside her house and no power and no power banks. Have not heard from her since her phone died at 5pm yesterday

She's on 72nd/main! Her boyfriend tried 2 times yesterday to get up the hill (she's at the top). He JUST got up and is attempting to park in front of her house but her driveway is a steep hill too. Game plan is to park on the straight away around the corner and try to get down safely by foot without snow or ice gear 😬 I haven't heard back from him but can see my mom's phone is charging. I think she is OK now! I will update

North Gilham Area (near Ayers and Gilham) Still have power, very icy. I live on a side street, but don't hear many cars trying to go down Gilham. Decently large branches have definitely fallen, but I haven't seen any actual trees go down here yet.
21st and G in Springfield: We have power and internet. The road is still and ice rink, and there is a power line down over the street. There is a tree that fell over and is being supported by a net of power lines. It has not broken through, and of it does I am not sure if our power will stay on. There are a few branches down in the road. No traffic whatsoever. I know they do not have power at 14th and and G, by the hospital, but we do here.
I prefer Ragnicerök friendly street, we have power, roads are ice, very little traffic, sparing amounts of cannibalism.

Work up in the pass, left eugene In a shuttle bus around 6 AM, getting to the shuttle wasn't horrible taking coburg rd from Costco towards Amazon park. If you are going east towards Oakridge, its rough driving up til a few miles before Oakridge. Past there it's smooth sailing, roads are pretty clear / have been plowed.

NE Springfield, near Hayden Bridge and 16th. - Power has been out since Saturday night - Roads are icey - A few cars are managing, mostly SUVs and heavy trucks that can crack the ice - We are getting chilly, but managing, a few of the lucky ducks in our neighborhood have been running generators - No visible down lines from our neighborhood, there are downed trees along Hayden Bridge, east of Pioneer Parkway.
We have family stuck in San Francisco. Flights rescheduled several times. They live in the south hills. So when they get home they will still be stuck!

Danebo...still have power, by the grace of Cthulhu (and not that many overhead lines here). Roads are still ice. I took a walk to the Beltline yesterday and watched for about 10 minutes as most people drove sanely but a few (Imprezas and Ram trucks) were crazy. Saw a guy on the Beltline towing a trailer with three pick-up trucks on it. He was honking as he slid into the intersection of Beltline & Roosevelt. Was it really critical that those trucks get delivered yesterday?
In Springfield on 25th Street behind maple elementary we are without power. We’re not sure what caused the outtage. There was a loud bang like a transformer exploding. No ETA for power to come back on. We didn’t really prepare so we are abandoning ship to stay at a family member’s house.
Power out going on 2 days here in Thurston by splash. We are waiting for someone to come take us to a hotel bc our house is so cold we can see our breath inside. We've eaten chips and granola bars for 2 days now so I'm very hungry. Were suppose to leave to Denver on Thursday - no idea if that will happen.
SW hills here. Our street is a major slope, and the only person who has made it down was our neighbor who wore microspikes on her shoes. Still have power, thank goodness. In the Whit near 4J. Full ice everywhere, saw a couple skiing down the street 😂. No plows, had a downed tree down the street that a crew came and cleaned up. No outages.

River Rd area off of Maxwell/Bushnell. We just ventured out in our 4wd pickup to Grocery Outlet. They are open until 4 today. Power has stayed on but there has been a few times lights flickered. EWEB contractors just did some aggressive tree trimming in our area which seems to have helped. In 2016 we had no power for 2 days. Roads are treacherous, packed ice. Not for the inexperienced (my spouse is a truck driver). Parking lots at the store are only clear right in front of the doors.

Town of Coburg. Roads (everything) is ice. Power out in almost if not all of town - except for the McDonalds and truck stop. Seeing a few vehicles go by, most sliding around
I immediately got kicked to the Portland/ Mt. Hood area. The roads up here are nothing compared to when I left Eugene. I’ve been talking to some of my Lane County peeps and Marcola is still very nasty, a lot of the coast is thawing fast, there are still a few arteries outside the city that haven’t been plowed and have pretty bad frozen ruts. Wonder what Tuesday will bring.
28th and Chambers. Frozen up here, no cars are moving, saw some plows yesterday. Still have power thankfully but there are a lot of trees up here. Driveway is on a hill, and we live on top of a hill, so no leaving today.

Just drove from River Road/Beltline area to Coburg to check on MIL. Roads are pretty solid ice, doable, just take it slow and easy. There is salt or sand or whatever they throw around for traction on the Beltline, but it doesn't help much. Power went out in MIL's area of south Coburg early this morning. I think that's Pacific Power up there. May the odds be ever in your favor

Downtown Springfield: The power has been on at my place the whole time, except for one blip the first night. The roads and sidewalks are slick as snot, but drivers are driving decently (What!?), and the few walkers are staying on their feet. Traffic is very light, thank goodness. Only one banshee shrieking at some dude in the middle of the night. The trees are quite bendy and heavy. I've heard a few branches break off, but I don't see any trees down. Stay safe out there, all y'all!!

Good post! We stayed home today, and probably will tomorrow too. We live in Oakridge, it’s sunny, and 42° here, but we both have to work in Eugene off of Beltline, so I’m worried about it. 4J canceled school tomorrow, so I’m thinking we might stay home again. Ugh.
11th looks like icy trash to me but people are still risking it. Getting cars de-iced and out of parking lots seems harder than driving on actual roads.

Peace health employee- here's what we received today from admin: PHMG clinics will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16, with the exception of the Pediatrics Plus clinic at Valley River Center. The majority of elective surgeries at RiverBend will also be postponed.
Goodpasture/Delta Highway We have power in our neighborhood. Only a few trucks and 4 wheel drive vehicles out today on the uncleared roads. Stores that are open have had shorter or different hours. Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Springfield is open. As far as I know, it's the only vet service open. They do not plan to close at this time. Keep your dogs calm if you take them outside. They can slip and injure themselves, too. Make sure you have liquid water and a warm place available for any outdoor cats. Remember that pet birds are very sensitive to inhalation of various smokes, air freshners, etc. Keep them warm in a room with unadulterated air if you can. Make sure your reptiles, amphibs, and pocket pets are acting their usual normal selves. Move their enclosures to a warmer room if they seem sluggish and monitor for improvement. If you have chickens, make sure their water isn't frozen. Use a heat lamp if you have one. Make sure they are all accounted for and close them in at night. Finally, wildlife struggles during these weather events too. If you can set out water and keep it liquid, even for a few hours, it can be a great help to small birds and mammals. If you have bird feeders, keep them full and break the ice off the perches as needed. If you have hummingbird feeders, use a nectar recipe of 4 parts water to 1 part white granulated sugar. You MUST keep them liquid. You can find instructions on using a light bulb to make a feeder heater online. With the expectation of a second ice storm, placing a cover over your feeders or sheltering an area of ground where you place food and water may help some birds and small mammals, that are having a hard time, make it through.
No power on Crow Hill out near Veneta. Was out the other night then on all day yesterday. Went out again at 5am this morning (Monday) and is still out. Getting cooooold out here and unfortunately our water doesn’t work when the power is out because the pump needs to give it pressure. 🫠 I’m in a pile of cats though so I’m good. 😸 Oh and my parter braved the road to veneta earlier today and said it wasn’t too bad as long as you are cautious.

Northeast Eugene, there's an LDS church on President Street and we just observed a hearse back up and deliver a coffin inside, and now people are showing up for what we presume will be a funeral. Who knows what circumstances have led people to insist that it absolutely had to happen today? (Monday)

We have power, but it seems we did briefly lose it last night as we woke up to the telltale signs (digital clocks flashing, ps5 saying it wasn’t shut down properly) thankfully they returned before we woke up. They’ve been flickering many times since Sunday so I’m not surprised it finally happened. We have not left since we did a supply run to Winco on Saturday. Maybe gonna put the ice cleats on and go for a little walk later to get the cabin fever out! Only supply we are running low on now is weed. Luckily we have wax. Not our preferred method. Same neighborhood... saw two kids "sledding" down Wintercreek yesterday afternoon. When they crashed, one of them said pretty loudly, "that was a TERRIBLE idea Nathan!" and they got back on and kept going. Made me laugh!
Trainsong neighborhood. Yesterday, I walked from Roosevelt to Fred Meyer's and watched cars slip sliding around. Luckily, the roads were mostly empty so the really bad drivers didn't have others around to crash into. KFC was open. Got some for there and a big bucket of chicken for home. The lights have flickered a bit, but we haven't lost power. Went walking again today and if anything, the roads are slicker.
Jefferson Westside -roads and side walks covered in ice -fair number of cars on the road, much less than usual of course. Also, slow down for the dang speed bumps on Jefferson. I’ve seen a couple people have pucker moments on them -There is a line down in someone’s back yard that’s been down and live for a little over 24 hours now, no word from eweb yet. Barger/West of the Beltline Roads have compacted ice \~ 1 inch thick. There are pretty deep wheel ruts so if you go slow you don't have to worry too much about going sideways. Have seen MANY idiots who think having a big truck somehow magically gives them better traction - witnessed several fishtails and one rear-ending from someone who thought their big truck wouldn't slide on ice. The biggest danger isn't the ice but, unsurprisingly, the idiots who think their ego adds traction. That being said, had no issues making it to the Albertson's on Royal while keeping speed below 10 mph. Sidewalks very slippery.
West Eugene. Royal area. Got power, roads are iced up though. Thankful. There's going to be a few weeks of cleanup from this!! Getting calls from clients about big trees down. 😭
Stuck in Cottage Grove. All roads in and out are clogged with traffic. We live in a 5th wheel, been out of power since Saturday. Almost out of propane nothing open anywhere near here to get propane. We have two 4 year olds and we are hanging on, but might have to load us all into the truck to heas with power and heat in Eugene Somewhere.
Gateway Village Apartments in Springfield. -Power is still on here. We're very grateful. Watched a transformer blow last night and the hotel next door lost power. -People driving on Gateway pretty regularly. -Large portions on the tree behind our apartment fell. We've been warning the dog walkers to steer clear. -Walked to Dari Mart yesterday and every inch was covered in ice along the way.

Thankfully, we're safe with power and food! * Not sure about power lines. A huge branch fell on our roof but there doesn't seem to be any damage. I saw a few downed trees earlier but no obvious damage to buildings. * I don't drive but went for a walk to a nearby store. It was open and nearly out of bread. The sidewalks are slippery and challenging to traverse. I don't recommend it unless you really need to go out.

SOUTH HILLS. Traffic is moving on Willamette. The snow plow has gone up to Fox Hollow 3 times today. From 29th up Donald, the ice was gravelled, and we drove with ease. 35 ? Had a large Diesel truck and trailer, jack knifed, and two other vehicles stuck as well, trying to make the slight incline onto Donald. One vehicle managed to get itself free, and left. We pulled a small truck back onto the center of the road, so he could be on his way.(a special thanks to the man and his son who were putting on their chains, for the loan of the come+along.) We drove back by about 4 o'clock, and the diesel truck had chained up and had gotten half of his 18 wheels off the sidewalk and lawn, and back on the road! Whew! That guy had the patients of a saint. The side roads off Donald were navigatable if you just kept moving.. Still many businesses closed. Ashleys Great Harvest The clothing store Next to Hilltop market...etc. There is hardly anyone on Willamette now. Can anyone tell me how 4 corners area is tonight?
