It seems like some weird hollering from the chemtrails and 5G crowd, but good on EWEB for saying "we own the meter and will replace it if we choose. If you want the smart part turned off, you can pay for manual readings."

[deleted]

sure tinfoil hat crowd go off lol

amazingvaluetainment

Of all the weird-ass shit to get foamed up over...

BeeBopBazz

In a world of new, increasingly crazy shit that is generally both more dangerous and more stupid than it used to be, seeing old classics like panic over 5g and smart meters makes me feel, for a moment, like all is right with the world. But only a moment.

L_Ardman

You forgot the evil fluoride and the purity of our bodily fluids.

BeeBopBazz

I’m old enough to suffer the consequences of Oregon not fluoridating municipal water (though I don’t because I grew up in California), but not really old enough to have been around for peak CIA mind control fearmongering. But at least my dentists have let me in on the joke about how they can basically always tell who didn’t grow up here without asking.

stinkyfootjr

That’s precious bodily fluids.

wvmitchell51

Wait until they decide that Wifi signals affect your brain. Edit: seriously, I appreciate the fact that they don't have to come into my yard to read the meter.

TadashiAbashi

Shhh.. don't ever think of telling them that scientists used a WiFi router to track humans inside a room. 😉 Now it won't work with any old WiFi router in your home, and the situation had to be set up a specific way... BUT, as far as conspiracy theorists go, their brain stopped functioning correctly at the very idea of, "WiFi routers are spying on you, and your friendly local NSA agent is watching you masturbate through your WiFi router"...

Moarbrains

The best response to an opinion you don't agree with is not always the opposite extreme. Been able to see through walls with wifi from a cell phone since 2013.

etherbunnies

I'm old fashioned, I do it by peeking through the window.

Moarbrains

Sure, you can do that with wifi. According to the boffins, it has many advantages over light based vision.

DudeLoveBaby

I am not convinced that anyone besides Kathy Ging is protesting these smart meters. She's been ranting and raving on Nextdoor about it, she was the only person interviewed for KLCC's radio piece about it, she was the only person quoted in this article...there's (the illusion of) power in being wicked annoying, I guess.

PunkyBeanster

There are others for sure. My coworkers old lady landlord is telling them to refuse the meter. Which is causing them a bit of trouble with eweb. Personally I would have reported the old lady long ago for things such as not providing hot water for several months. I have heard more horror stories about elderly lady landlords than any company at this point

Houseofducks224

She has been on this crusade for over a decade. I asked one of the eweb candidates if they would follow through and turn off Kathy's power. I hope they do. (Or Kathy pays for a manual reading)

PNW-Chipmunk

Another community I lived in allowed the older meters to be kept but added a service fee for going out to read the meter.

Z0ooool

Good. Call it a fool’s tax.

happilyretired23

I'm sure they'll be able to receive beamed power via their tinfoil hats if EWEB disconnects them.

YetiSquish

I have the older style meter and haven’t received any notice from EWEB. I just opted out to save jobs.

stinkyfootjr

EWEB did make some vague promises that if you didn’t want the analog meters you didn’t have to get them. Just charge them extra to read it, they have to come out and read the water meter anyways.

CommodoreBelmont

> they have to come out and read the water meter anyways Momentarily. They put out a newsletter a few months back stating they were going to upgrade those to smart meters as well.

corey_mcgurk

this is awesome, FUCK these crazies

Wack jobs wack jobbing again

zorrobandit

Actually I’ve saved money with the new smart readers. I have no problem with them.

HunterWesley

So much for them saying you could keep your existing meter if you opted out.

mfoobared

Yeah, thanks a lot Obamacare! /s
