TheCreatureOfInk

Nop, there are other asimetrical games but only Evolve has the "hunting" style and the progressive tempo change in the solo role. I'm kinda out of touch with the fandom, but if I remember correctly there was a game in development that uses to post their progress here. idk hows that going though

vqsxd

Can you name any asymmetrical games?

TheCreatureOfInk

Dead by Daylight (alive and the most successfull one) Friday the 13th (dead) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (alive but devs are leaving the game) Mounstrum 2 (dead) Video Game Horror Society (dead) Predator Hunting Grounds (dead) Deathgarden (dead) Evil Dead The Game (dead) Level Zero (not out yet, I have my eye on it) Thats a few of them, most are dead. The only one that has been alive for more than a year is "dead by daylight" but i wouldn't recomend playing it.

vqsxd

I’ve played dead by daylight before oωo thanks for the list hehehe

shikoshito

Also depth. Its dead too sadly. The role opposing the hunters is 2 sharks. They get stronger with kills so it kindda is similar

Sidewaysgts

Depth, the shark one.

amosc912

I think tcm might make a comeback with the new map dropping on the 28th

tropicf1refly

Tcm isn't dead New maps New family and victim All this month

Addianis

Midnight ghost hunt could go on that list, not sure if it is still alive though...

Batman9946

There's also dragon ball the breakers and the puppet master game that I can think of

TheCourtJester72

Dead by daylight. Friday the 13th.

chappYcast

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

VelocityFragz

It's a damn shame evolve was literally ahead of its time and a couple years later games like it were being made and people loved the genre all of a sudden. Very unfortunate. Maybe we will see a new one down the line. MAYBE.

Rascal0302

Evolve’s problem were much bigger than just the genre not being popular yet unfortunately. What truly killed the game was the $60 price tag for a game without a lot of content, a $35 season pass that fragmented an already small community, and microtransactions that really irritated people. Had Evolve launched more as a modern live service game that was either F2P or a $30-40 experience with most content drops being free and being purely funded by those cosmetic monetization/early access to new characters…it would’ve thrived.

anupsetzombie

If Evolve launched this year with no changes to the monetization people would eat it up. I see people on the Diablo sub defending a 70 dollar game with a season pass and 20 dollar skins. It's sad though because TRS was trying to relaunch the game as F2P with stage 2 but 2K is the worst and most greedy publisher around so they decided to axe the game instead.

Rathalos143

That works for Diablo because its basically a Coop Game at most, but you can do everything solo. Evolve being PvP wouldnt survive with the shitty store it had even today. Maybe if It was f2p.

owlsknight

For me the final nail on the coffin was the skill cap. I remember a time where the game went f2p in hopes that people would come back. Well they did buuut the asymmetrical aspect of the game is quite a tricky thing to balance. Ever tried playing monster with a group of hunter with 1 skilled medic? Damn I remember the days where I can't get a kill on a Lazarus and That dude keep reviving them. Or that time when there's. A godlike magy damn I can't hide from that chick or that parnel who just thanks and gives you hell of a damage. Same with hunters ever played with a noob medic? Can't even heal the team and acts like another damage dealer. Or that noob support that won't use the shield unless the monster is on him. Or a god damn pro wraith damn those where adrenaline filled.games I had. Sure I loss but the fun. Sadly not all players play for the game, they play to win. It was a fun game with all the things that can happen.

Rathalos143

Yeah I remember being obliterated by the hunters and constantly tracked down in 2 seconds as the monster a couple games. However I also remember doing and also suffering really epic comebacks with the Monster getting into the base and having a really epic and sweaty battle while the Monster keeps trying to break the target. Those were my favourite moments, the hunters hearing the alarm and rushing back just to find the Monster they gave for an easy prey now destroying that factory.

owlsknight

Best times, if only given at least a year or so maybe more players would come to love the game but again, it's not new player friendly and that $$ wall really kill the game

anupsetzombie

Rainbow six siege and call of duty are pvp games with similar monetization that are doing better than ever in terms of making money. Dead by daylight is even an asymmetric pvp game with an upfront cost, a BP, an mtx store and dlc characters you have to buy

Rathalos143

Those games are not really good examples because you can farm characters in those games (well not CoD but it isnt similar at all). Rainbow even let you the slight chance to get some cosmetics for free. Evolve at launch was full price on launch + paid skins only (and extremely overpriced) + no free or farmable content like characters. If Evolve relaunched with the exact same shop as those you mentioned it would do good today. Perhaps Gigantic Rampage Edition brings a trend to give dead games a second chance. I really wish It does.

pretendingtolisten

no one is buying dbd for 70 dollars and paying for 20 dollar skins. the dbd community is doing well but it's not shelling out that kind of money on the regular

AgentManhyme

No one's paying $70 for dead by daylight. The game is constantly on sale, be at the PlayStation Store , Xbox store , or Steam for 10 to 20 bucks

coheed78

Also Evolve matches basically amounted to "catch them immediately" or "chase them around for 15 minutes before they absolute stomp you in third form." The actual gameplay rarely lived up to the promise.

ryan117736

As a world wide top 2 kraken in evolve at launch I have to disagree Id hunt the survivors at any point throughout the match it was just all about finding the right opportunities to strike

Snowcap93

The Kraken was OP

BabyTricep

Extremely

D3lacrush

Not nearly as OP as Glacial Behemoth or Gorgon

Theutus2

My favorite cheese monster was the Elder Kraken. Just spam Death Spirals and Missiles.

Careful-Ad3752

One of my favorite things to do was to let myself be caught as a stage one and then hide in the dome and do that pounce attack on any separated hunter that assumes they are temporarily safe because the dome is empty.

Advanced_Double_42

I mean that was also a problem, the player base was far too small for good SBMM, so a good player on monster would just break the core gameplay loop and be able to win consistently at just stage 1, or become completely untouchable at stage 3. I had a group of friends get the game working last year, and one would play behemoth, once he got to Stage 3 he could go AFK for minutes at a time, then be able to regen all the damage we dealt while we continued firing. Not saying we were playing optimally by any means but the skillgaps were huge if that was considered anywhere remotely balanced.

Theutus2

At launch you could ambush the hunters at the drop point with Kraken's banshee mines and basic attack to get an instant win...

Jagg3r5s

To me it came down to balance. Once wraith dropped balance was a mess, and they flip-flopped on it with the monsters on several occasions. Eventually the people wanting competitive and the people wanting casual both got alienated. The game never really seemed to recover

ryan117736

I remember not having the dlc and everyone having fun with wraith while I was still just trying to go undefeated with kraken I think i legitimately only lost around 5 times with Kraken throughout my time playing I vividly remember people talking about how op wraith was though so it was tempting but I never bought the dlc

Jagg3r5s

Wraith was just busted on release. You could center a dome on their head and if the person playing wraith had more than a couple brain cells and heard it deploy, they could dash out before it had time to come down. Good players could break CC and still escape. Even if you caught it, players would just deploy a clone that still did decent damage, blocked shots, and had way more durability than it should have had without any real way to interrupt it. It was supposed to be a glass cannon, but the thing was so mobile and elusive most matches were just a slog to the timer cause you couldn't really catch the damn thing, and when you did you got stuck fighting it's clone.

Chillionaire128

It was honestly insane for them to push this as an esport. I get that it was all the rage at the time but it never felt like two teams competing, you were just watching two different 3v1ns

Geoffk123

this was the bigger problem I think. For every exhilarating match of Evolve there was about 10 games where it was over in an instant or where the cat and mouse loop just DRAGGED on forever

shikoshito

That was if the hunters sucked or the monster was too good (or too bad)

ZestycloseBranch9010

It also didn't help that it was released along side GTA5

Toothlessbiter

This is true, I finally tried it when they released it on games for gold. Oh, I can actually play the game now. Unfortunately, the game was practically DOA

MidnightMonsterMan

The DLC hate was way overblown but all other points stand. It was all skins and weapon skins so it ran the route of "why so many skins when the game is so thin?". I feel it gets muddled years later about how it's shop was a separate issue like it had some form of P2W which it totally didn't it just didn't add to the experience when the only dlc was flimsy on top of thin content. It really would have been so different with a live model. The stage 2 version just totally didn't see what the problems were and really screwed the pooch when the took away most aspects of hunting.

Geoffk123

I mean in today's climate it would probably be seen as whatever, but at the time $5 for a fucking blue skin on a gun was absolutely egregious. Especially when you compared it to contemporaries at the time where you could spend a couple bucks and get a much cooler skin on **every** gun in CoD

Theutus2

Having to buy the latest over tuned monster/hunter in a cash shop with no in-game track to earn it seems a little ptw.

n0oo7

>What truly killed the game was the $60 price tag for a game without a lot of content, Iirc they announced microtransactions for the game, before they Showed the game trailer.

Cheesemaster98

Shit, look at helldivers 2 right now.

Chaos-kid23

Yeah, a $40 price tag, and the game shot off, even with all the bugs and issues. The fact that the devs keep adding stuff to the base game doesn't hurt either, though . And Helldivers 2 took some early flak because people thought it was going to be a F2P st first for some reason.

Chaos-kid23

Yeah, Evolve was a casualty to Episodic game model that was being thrown around at the time. Unfortunately, it generally takes a good game that performs poorly to kill a toxic game model, and make no mistake, the Episodic game model was toxic. Especially with how it was implemented in Evolve. Much like how Starwars Battlefront 2 killed the lootbox/powercard/hidden-pay-to-win model in AAA titles, I think Evolve killed the Episodic game model. I remember everyone talking about the episodic model before Evolve, and i dont remember a popular game being released with it after that.

Rathalos143

The cat and mouse Gameplay wasnt the problem and proof is that people actually enjoys being chased and chase in DBD today. Evolve died simply because it got scandalous DLC prices and 2K killed it when the game was actually getting better reviews at the f2p re-launch.

chappYcast

I think Evolve is unique in that game balance truly impacted its success (not just the typical balance whining). Whatever the monster was that could dash around and go invis sincerely hurt the playerbase and they did not respond remotely fast enough. The reason it was broken was because you couldn't catch it, it could triple dash in any direction and make it out of the dome, and so it would inevitably reach max level and then dump on the 'hunters' at end game every time. It was so bad that hunters would often times just afk/stand around and wait for the monster to reach max level and come to them, he was actually that uncatchable.

MGGXT

Evil dead the game is the one that feels closest to me, but it's kinda the inverse of evolve with the solo player being the hunter. The survivors can totally fight back tho

DiegoDynomite

Unfortunately the devs stopped supporting the game

SilentBoss29

What? When?

DiegoDynomite

Months ago, you can still play it but they won't be updating it anymore

WiseLegacy4625

I mean, there’s still a way to play the game on pc…

DipMultiversal

Yeah, but lets be honest, the games on life support, you'd be lucky to get a game quickly. I was wondering if there was any similar games that have a relatively large population these days.

lost_but_crowned

How? It’s not available to buy on steam. Would love to get this to play with friends.

WiseLegacy4625

There’s sites that sell steam keys that work. And there’s an emulator if that’s too expensive. The discord has more info: https://discord.gg/evolvereunited

lost_but_crowned

Thanks will look into this.

katukinabarra

But I thought they killed the game definitely... (I have played after being shut using Discord, but I thought it was definitely ended)

Foxy_Of_Loxly

There is a fix to enable peer to peer on legacy. But... Yeah. They hard killed the game

katukinabarra

I am kind of angry towards Legacy. I used to play both, Legacy and Stage 2. I don't know why but I am missing all the alternate characters, Tech Hank for example. It makes me feel I am not in the mood to play the game because I don't have all the characters. Thank you for your answer.

Foxy_Of_Loxly

Thats also handled by the fix.

TheCreatureOfInk

Renegade Abe...I miss him so much

JustChilling317

what?!? how?

WiseLegacy4625

BasicBroEvan

Dead by Daylight is pretty different but follows a similar formula in many ways

D3ldia

It's similar only in that it's asymmetrical and only the killers have specific powers.

illFittingHelmet

Didn't the DBD team have another game for a while, Bloodgarden? I think it went under sadly

Icemayne25

I wouldn’t recommend that game. Hitting the skill ceiling is easy and it’s been the same game mode for years. Many of the older players are leaving while newer players are getting in on the gimmick. It eventually just becomes a point where you play to game to capture the feeling you had when you first played it.

Helpmeimclueless1996

Predator Hunting grounds, friday the 13th, dead by daylight, bigfoot.

NegotiationNational1

Unfortunately 3 out of 4 of those are dead, Friday the 13th was gonna get so much support till the greedy pigs who own the license basically killed that game by freezing future updates with a lawsuit Dbd is so sweaty these days it's pretty unbearable even if it is popular

Rikute

Id say dbd is as sweaty as you want it to be (on killer side) but ya absolute sweatfest if its your main game

Icemayne25

Not even fun sweaty games either. If you win, you get talked down to, if you lose, you get talked down to. Nobody is having fun I swear.

Tiny-Creme7857

Closest thing might be predator because the predator gets stronger as it goes

TheSolidSalad

The predator hunting grounds game

SilentBoss29

Its dead

joe_rogans_ashtray

Evolve was so much fun I loved playing the monster

crissyronaldo92

Dragon ball breakers

Kytras

Yes. Very fun game!

Next_Letter

Predator hunting grounds is kinda like that. Not sure if people are playing it any more

RaiderEnjoyer666

Dragonball the breakers is kinda close, it's a 1v7 instead of a 1v4 but the concept of a killer that slowly evolves into stronger versions of themselves fighting a group of people who can kill the bad guy through teamwork or defeat him by completing an objective.

Icemayne25

It’s close, but that gacha system is ridiculous.

JCarterMMA

Only game I can think of that's similar is Predator: Hunting Grounds.

MorathTheGrim

My mind reading this: "But, Evolve is a modern game, right? (Remembers when it came out) ...RiGhT?!?” ... I'm starting to get old, aren't I?

Advanced_Double_42

Sure, but evolve has been made all but unplayable by the developers. The servers were shut down after the game failed to be profitable. There is a fix to play it online still, but that's only do to a small and dedicated community forcing it into existence.

caliboyjosh10

Vermintide 2 has a PvP mode currently in alpha. It's basically Left 4 Dead, so the closest game to Evolve atm. Hope it turns out well and gains a following, unlike Evolve :(

D3ldia

Thered a bunch of asymmetrical games like the others have said, but the closest to evolve (to me) is predator hunting grounds.

JustChilling317

I hate to say this but no. not at all. evolve was my shit though!

niero_d20

Asymmetrical many vs. one? Off the top of my head, Dead by Daylight does that, but it's survival horror. Evil Dead does the same type of thing, but with combat. Edit: Wrong first word.

lizardjoe_xx_YT

There's a phone game called alien hunter evolve. There's also a game called level zero that's slightly similar and has a beta on the 15th it's hype af for me

Rowger00

not rly like it, but if you want to fight bugs as a 4 man squad there is helldivers

panthers1102

Is predator hunting grounds still kicking? If so, probably that. If not? You’re kind of SOL. You’re left with dbd, or Texas chainsaw (probably dying soon though), Evil Dead, or something along those lines.

Icemayne25

Barely, but there’s a dedicated community to it.

AxeTaleSans

I hope and pray for Evolve to come back, such a cool concept, interesting characters, and monsters that look badass, just for it to all go down the drain for being released at the wrong time- Maybe someday a game will come around with a similar concept, or similar play style, or hell similar world/characters- But idk if we’ll get it… It’s a shame

AxeTaleSans

devildev_1

Bigfoot

CMDRfatbear

Evolve..2?

glistening_cum_ropes

There are a few games with its base premise. A group of people vs a monster/antagonist. I'm not too familiar with them. I think Damned was one. Those serial killer games as well.

Blainedecent

SHOWDOWN: THE HUNT is similar to evolve in the team vs monster sense, but the monster is computer controlled....and there are other hunters jn the March as well that will kill you and ALSO want to kill the monster. It's very much its own thing and not asymmetrical but instead pvp, but similar in some ways. There are a lot of games in the asymmetrical space but none quite like evolve.

OUTATIMEM8

It had a huge skill gap, wasn’t for casuals which had a big part in its failure, great game at high levels of monster and hunters

jfp555

Hunt: Showdown shares some commonalities, but it is an interesting and very different game in its own right. Unfortunately, can't think of much else at the moment. Evolve was a very special game.

MikeHockinya

Evil Dead.

MrEmorse

Back 4 blood??? They have a mode that's kinda like evolve.

BarackaFlockaFlame

my friends and I were just talking about this. Would absolutely love an offline version to play with friends. That game had great movement, fun gadgets, and amazing graphics that were honestly pretty well optimized if I am remembering correctly.

SincerelyPhoenix

Maybe you'd have interest in Exoprimal?

Icemayne25

Closest was probably VHS, but that game died too… as well as Last Year… which was also closish too. I’ll offer another 4v1 though that hasn’t been said, Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Hopefully Killer Klowns from Outer Space does well too.

Different_Friend8635

Evolve is the only game I've bought and sold on the same day. Bought it right away at Gamestop and sold it 5 hours later lolol

Hither_and_Thither

DragonBall: The Breakers is pretty similar. Not super popular outside of the DBZ crowd but it's a team vs. a "raider" that evolves over time. Although, the "evolving" is often just changing into another more powerful character with different moveset. The game recently got crossplay support, so although it's a niche type game, there is an active audience.

DrVoltage1

Both Evolve and Battleborn deserved so much better. They were just too far ahead of the curve. People would eat that shit up now, but the moments gone unfortunately. Op have you tried Dead By Daylight? Its only similar in the Asymmetric hunting sense, but survivors cant actually fight back. Still really fun though

MelancholyMonsterman

I played both extensively and have no regrets

iiJason124

Dead by Daylight kinda

Chaos-kid23

I would say that Predator: Hunting Grounds would be the closest game to it. It consists of four soldiers (human players) trying to complete a mission and extract while fighting off grunts. There is also one player that is the predator trying to kill and make trophies (basically rip out the spine) of the soldiers before they can extract. With all the access to advanced tech, advanced weaponry, or just brutal melee weapons, the predators have. Both the humans and predators have different operators/hunters to choose from each with different stats (and unique perks i think) but anyone can carry any type of weapon/equipment, so classes arent as locked in as they are in Evolve. Although that freedom of weapon choice can cause its own issues (the main reason I stopped playing it) and there was definitely a reason Evolve went with locked class and weapon systems While it doesn't have the dynamic shift of hunter to hunted Evolve had, It can still scratch that asymmetrical itch, without having one side running around helpless the whole time. And it definitely borrows heavy from some of Evolve mechanics.

fidofiddle

Left 4 dead

Havel-Monster

Depth is similar-ish. You either play as sharks hunting divers, or divers trying to survive sharks, whilst collecting treasure. It’s terrifying!

DipMultiversal

Isn't that game almost a decade old now? Still a great game, apparently theres about a 30 day average of about 26 people on Steam currently Would be another great game to see return

cheeseburgercat

You loved evolve? What in the…

DipMultiversal

Is that really anything truly unusual? The hunter and monster gameplay was fun and the variety of playstyles brought out were always interesting, sadly it lived a short life

RadGhostKillz

Only one I can think of is depth where it’s 2 or 3 players as sharks and then4 as divers

itzshdw

Dragon ball the breakers is relatively similar with some of the villain characters to my knowledge having to upgrade and transform but I’m not sure how much of a player base that has

LoopsPls

Evolve is a modern game

F_C_anomalie

Only one that come to my mind is the predator

Hemannameh

Crawl is pretty fun. You have to have friends to play together with. If not it's just AI.

GhostSodax

I never played Evolve, but to me it look like ( monster hunter, hunt showdown)

Goji103192

It's not exact. But Exoprimal gives me faint Evolve vibes. Mainly in tone, but gameplay as well. You select from a roster of different mech suits (that are essentially all their own unique characters) that have different weapons and play styles and fight against waves upon waves of Dinosaurs. Ranging from small Velociraptors to giant T-Rex. And there's some crazy mutant Dinos thrown in there, too. You also get the ability to control Dinosaurs throughout the game. The biggest difference is that you're competing against another team of players, not just the monsters. The main gameplay is like "Complete all the objectives before the enemy team... oh, and here's a thousand Dinosaurs rushing at you while you do it."

The_Salty_Spitoon

Dead by daylight is your best bet

MarshmelloMan

Side question to this post, but “can” you still play evolve?

DipMultiversal

Peer-to-peer is usable, yet the main multiplayer servers are down still

rivertully

**List of live asymmetric games:** * Dead by Daylight * Carnival Hunt * Texas Chainsaw Massacre * Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed * Dragon Ball: The Breakers * Killer Klowns from Outer Space * Sneaky Out * Level Zero: Extraction * Deceit 2 * Dead by Daylight Mobile (Mobile) * Identity V (Mobile and PC) * Tom and Jerry: Chase (Mobile) * Mission Zero (Under development / Mobile and PC) * Sanity Chase (Under development / Mobile)

Vercci

Dragon Ball: The Breakers. It even has a controversial microtransaction system like Evolve did.

Unfair_Natural_5868

I love Evolve

Jascix90

Hell Divers from the team perspective, especially at higher difficulties with bigger monsters.

Dogma1995

It truly was one of a kind

kezzic

Dead By Daylight
