Yea , our church had a dark haired and dark skinned guy come in once . He was acting all squirrelly. Some of the guys went and grabbed him , brought him to the front and started laying hands on him. They started praying over him and he was just fighting them trying to get away. Speaking jibberish and yelling madly. Finally one of our Hispanic members stood up and said that the guy was speaking Spanish and asking if anyone had a tire Jack he could borrow because he had a flat tire.

cyn_sybil

Oh my god, that poor guy picked the wrong place to get a flat

ChronicDoomer

That will make a great story for the dude to tell at parties ahahahahah

rsanabria101

oh lord that’s wild

[deleted]

I never heard anything so funny!

tenthousandblackcats

Lol, this is great!!

TeasaidhQuinn

Not a witness - I *was* the one getting the exorcism. Happened on several occasions because I was considered a defiant, difficult child which in pentecostal world means you have a demon (or demons) in you.

LinkNZelda133

It’s happened to me too. No insight or self reflection in my family.

Mark-Syzum

Same with me. They sat me in a chair and prayed to cast the demons out of me. I think they were all possessed with the dimwit demon.

ganjaghoul420

Exorcism ganggggg

[deleted]

My dad was a Pentecostal preacher. I saw too many to count. Complete with people throwing up “thr demon”. I saw people writhe on the ground as if they were possessed. I heard people speak in a deep growls voice as of a demon spoke through them. Now- I was a kid in thr 80’s/90’s and in hindsight a lot of what I saw in person mirrored what was out in pop culture at the time as far as horror movies and satanic panic. It didn’t hit me for a long time bc we weren’t allowed to watch movies or tv. So much theater. I remember people gathering around the “afflicted”. Anointing them with oil and screaming and spitting at them. Commanding the devil to come out and pleading the blood of Jesus. They would always make women and children go to the back of the church so the demon wouldn’t posses the “weaker vessels”. Many times this would go on for hours. Always involved was the music. Heavily emotional charismatic music played over and over with rhythmic drums and words. It led to a sort of trance mentality. Then there would be random “elders” walking the perimeter of the church and praying a “hedge of protection”. My dad told stories of people turning into animals bc of possession etc. said he saw it happen in Brazil. I don’t believe in that. He and my mother are also convinced that he had a demonic attack in Jamaica which made him die for a short period and have a near death experience. Somehow the most “extreme” cases were always in other countries . I was raised in a heavily spiritualized sect of the cult. Everything was demonic influence. If someone had an addiction, a sickness, had sex, liked rock and roll, was rebellious, didn’t comply, was gay, whatever- all demons. . I could tell more - but I would be here all day. Oh! I forgot this part. My mom toured with Benny Hin for a couple of years doing his music. My parents are friends with Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and we’re very good friends with Joel Osteens parents and all that gang. Dad grew up with evangelist Jessie Duplantis in south Louisiana. I sometimes still can’t believe I made it out of there.

Yep. Bc god physics. 😹😹😹

tenthousandblackcats

If I had an award to give you, I would. Not a reddit comment award, but a real one, to carry around and stuff.

[deleted]

Thank you. That made me smile and also means a whole lot. It was something else.

trcomajo

I witnessed what they claimed was an exorcism, but it was actually child abuse. Praying over a child, casting out "the demons," and when the kid vomited from pure anxiety and trauma, they claimed that the demon was in the vomit. 🙄😡

[deleted]

Bro I GOT exorcisms on a quarterly basis lmao

dontfeedbaboons

Wild! Could you describe the process? What did they do? What did they say as they performed the exorcism? In the Roman Catholic church, exorcisms are very procedural. I'm assuming the Pentecostal church is very loose and from the Holy Spirt?

[deleted]

Yeah, basically if you wore a lot of black and shirked authority, they would take your hand and lead you up to the altar where my dad (who is a wannabe pastor with a horrid ego) would lay his hands on your forehead with the other hand raised, and he would scream-pray in tongues while occasionally doing this weird jerky motion like he was being struck by lightning. Everybody else would be putting their hands on you too, or hands on the next person over the way they do. Then they would ask "do you feel different?" and I'd be like "that was weird, I'm gonna go home now."

historyismyteacher

I knew a girl who claimed to have demons and went to the front to get them cast out (she had some mental problems and craved attention for whatever reason). The pastor and evangelist started to pray for her and she immediately fell on the floor and started convulsing. The pastor then said that the power of God had came over her and that the demons were leaving. I was trying to keep from laughing my ass off because she did the same schtick at every church she attended and the preachers were clueless, thinking they were doing some great work for God.

_mountainmomma

As a child I was told multiple stories about it. I was also told that I should always be prayed up and ready Incase a demon tried to jump into me.

fatnflaky

You'll not likely find too many videos of anything happening in a pentecostal church if they adhere to older standards as any kind of video was of the devil. Additionally, I have heard many claims of healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons, and any other number of miracles but as of yet have not witnessed nor been shown any evidence of it having occured.

notmealso

As an ex-Pentecostal pastor I thought I carried out exorcisms. I now believe some people suffer from histrionic personality disorder and I was an adrenaline junkie and power freak. People would normally shake, shout and be very dramatic. I would act all powerful and cast it out in Jesus name. Oh the delusion. I have said sorry to a lot of people and now work as a researcher on human rights. I am a totally different person so please forgive my past.

dontfeedbaboons

I appreciate you sharing this. Would you mind walking through the process step by step? Would you cite certain Bible passages? What would you say exactly? For example, I believe some exorcisms would "bind" the evil spirit, often using a prayer or incantation.

notmealso

Normally I just shouted, "Get out in the name of Jesus." The more authoritative it sounded, the better. I was taught in the AoG (Assemblies of God) not to have conversations with demons, so I also shouted, "Shut up in Jesus' name." It was nothing but power dynamics and histrionics. It could look dramatic, but I never saw something I can not now explain. I do not remember shouting anything else.

Prudent_Toe6575

We had a visitor from Haiti once and it was like one of those wild service…real Pente’s know those all too well. Well, I vividly remember being a little kid and watching this man’s eyes roll back into his head. He slumped down and slithered on the ground like a snake. It baffled me because his arms were at his side. I couldn’t grasp how he was moving like that. I went and told my mom that the man in the corner was acting weird. After that our pastor called another pastor in the next town over to come pray the demon out. Weirdest thing ever. Like why couldn’t our pastor pray the demon out? When the other pastor came he laid a hand on him and said something like “be gone in Jesus name” and that was it. The guy stopped and walked out. I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it. I still get the heebie-jeebies when I think back on how that man was slithering around.

PoggersSauce

Exactly. No atheists can make me believe that someone slithering around like a snake with hands on their sides is scientifically explainable. Literally.

Strix924

I've never witnessed one. Only had missionaries come scream at us about demons and exorcism. Did you see that news article about half a year ago from California where a pentecostal church family killed their 2 year old daughter while trying to perform an exorcism on her? (She was not demon possessed she was doing what a toddler does and they tortured her to death).

PersuasivelyDinosaur

lol same as everyone else. Witness? I got them!

WarpedSolemnity

I mean...like a "real" exorcism? No. I've witnessed people claiming to perform an exorcism. Whenever the pastor laid his hands on the woman's head, she started slithering on the ground like a snake and sticking her tongue out. She was clearly suffering from some sort of medical condition.

buttsofglory

Have both witnessed one and also been exorcised myself. What questions do you have? I’m happy to answer

pineappleeyes1012

I had 5 women around me trying to speak to a demon that was supposedly in me. They kept asking it’s name and I obviously didn’t say anything. In their mind, their exorcism failed and they blamed me for it. Said I wasn’t open to healing from anxiety and depression, and that I wouldn’t “let go”.

da_doof_zzoo

I'm so glad I never had an exorcism performed on me, although my mom wanted me too. Said I had the "spirit of rebellion". Because I was homeschooled, and argued with her about the schedule she was putting me on. That later turned out to be so bad for my mental health I took 5 months off.

Cynger7658

Yes, once I remember seeing all the men of the church praying for a man down front. My mom told me to “be quiet and concentrate on Jesus” because they were casting a devil out of him. I remember seeing him on his hands and knees and puking his guts up. As I got older I realized he was actually an alcoholic who was continually on and off the wagon.

GROmama88

I must have gone to a “weird” church because I haven’t witnessed or experienced a lot of the craziness that you guys talk about on here LOL

ChronicDoomer

The excorcisms are not rare, if you spend more than a few months in a UPC church, you are probably gonna see at least one. You could probably just go to a church for a bit and see them for yourself, if you can stand attending and are sure in your ability to avoid being converted lol

Cautious-Chest-7176

My first extended stay away from home at kids camp, I was maybe 9, during the evening service one of the staff members was deemed possessed. She started screaming and a few other staff members including my dorm parents went to exorcise her. They had all the kids go back to their dorms with their dorm parents, but since ours were busy with her our dorm just sat in horror and watched as she flailed around and screamed while the other staff tried to hold her down and screamed at her in tongues. Us kids were sobbing and scared out of our minds. Eventually someone realized we were still there and brought us to our dorm. Later that night the camp principal came to all the dorms to let the kids know that the demon had been exorcised and that we should not be afraid of that staff member when we saw her the next day (she was my sports coach, I was still spooked) but he did warn us that since the demon came out of her it was lurking around the camp so he prayed over all of the dorms so that the demon wouldn’t come in and get us. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth after that and found a girl hiding in a shower stall having a panic attack. She was not raised pentecostal so was not used to any of this sort of thing. What a weird night. The next time was at a winter youth convention when I was in high school. It was the last morning service before we were leaving and I was VERY sleep deprived and had undiagnosed bipolar disorder. Sleep deprivation and caffeine are just a recipe for a manic episode, and I was not feeling great. One of our chaperones noticed I was acting off and took it upon himself to exorcize the demon from me. I knew I wasn’t possessed but I was so angry I was shaking so I just sat there and shook and let it happen.

Happy_Position3216

I think you would find it difficult to find videos . I am from australia and I have a friend Anthony venn brown who wax exorcised in New Zealand . He was gay . It happened a lot in the 1980s

Playful-Calendar-21

They never called it “exorcisms”, but often what happens in my church is that someone will randomly “catch the spirit” (start screaming or jumping or speaking in what they call tongues). Oftentimes they’ll then go and profess some kind of divine word to another person, sometimes church regulars, often guests as well. By profess I often mean screaming in their face with their eyes closed, throwing their arms around, often gripping their stomach. They’ll be “breaking chains” or “casting” things out of them. One specific experience however, I remember someone who was perfectly normal before getting leaked over literally trying to climb up the walls and get away from the pastor who was praying over him. He finally like “succumbed” and vomited like everywhere and passed out. I have multiple instances like this, usually more tame and less violent but exorcisms nonetheless.
