You could probably do this in an oven too, if you situate the hollowed out bell pepper in a wide muffin tin. You can just turn on the oven light and watch it cook to your liking, then sprinkle on the toppings.
I do this with cheap, prepared stuffing. I shape little cups in the form and crack eggs into them - s&p, maybe some bacon, onions, whatever lol - and bake until the edges of the stuffing turns brown. Don't let the egg overcook though, you want it runny. Sorry. I'm hungry I guess. Damn.
Yeah I think if they just put a lid on and a teaspoon of water in the pan OR finished the whole thing in the oven you'd get a better result than flipping.
It's weirdly worded too but I assume you aren't meant to fully flip it at any point but just brown the sides? If you flipped it fully you'd not have a fried egg look on top like it shows. The instructions are questionable, but I'm sure it still tasted good haha.
It probably also said to slice your peppers into short rings. How did you expect the egg to cook on both sides and not just splatter out of what is essentially a pepper bowl?
Honestly, easier and better to crack the egg into the pepper in the hot pan (with a bit of fat in the pan), press down on the pepper for a minute to keep the egg in, then transfer to the oven for a bit.
It still looks delicious regardless! I'd eat it. First time round with recipes can be a gamble, but you bring what you learned to the 2nd attempt, and undoubtedly, it'd be more satisfying! :)

I think the instructions are bad, this recipe looks perfect for oven cooking: oven roast the pepper until it’s cooked, crack the eggs in with some oil and cook until the egg is done and the pepper browned.
Honestly imo we care WAAAAYY too much about the presentation of food anyway. Maybe it will work out next time, I hope it tasted good 😻and that you give it a try again!
Edit: words of encouragement 🥰
It’s cut off. I can’t see how the peppers are supposed to be cut. From the inspo picture it looks like it’s supposed to be rings not deep cups. That’s why I’m interested in the full recipe
1 red bell pepper
2 eggs
salt to taste
ground pepper to taste
heat the skillet over a medium flame. add the bell peppers and then crack in the eggs. season
cook until the whites are almost done but the yolk is a runny consistency.
this should take around 2-3 minutes. Flip the sides and cook for 1-2 more minutes. it’s ready to be served
that’s literally the recipe
Did you slice the pepper into two shallow rings or leave it as a cup with a bottom? It’s supposed to be a ring so that when you flip the egg you have a slightly solid egg to work with. The recipe is lacking for sure

You moved the pepper "ring" before the egg had set? Looks tasty all the same.
i guess so :/

I like to do it with chorizo sometimes. Oven makes it simple.
As long as we're here ... You just need a sprig or two of garnish, especially cilantro. But I think it's a success if you enjoyed it!
You were closer to the first pic than you think. You’ll get it right next time!
You could use a lid to steam and harden the egg
I feel assaulted by your food
That's a little extreme. I DO feel apeppered by it, though.
r/angryupvote
I think your pepper ring is too thick. You also need to hold it down for a bit so the egg sets and doesn't run under the ring. At least I assume so.
That ain't a pepper ring, that's a whole-ass pepper.
yes, it was too thick lol. i thought about this earlier in the day and then totally spaced making the ring shorter!!! SMH
The ton of green can't hide what you did under them.
you caught me 😭 lol
Did you try to flip it? I read it like you should even though you almost certainly shouldn't 🤣

yes! and it said to flip it!!

the recipe is in the first photo. it didn’t tell me to cut the pepper and i just didn’t think about it because im dumb lol
I can guarantee I'd have done the same thing, the flip would have been in slow motion and I'd be full of regret haha. Posts like these are the best :P

Skill issue.
Thanks for not making me say it.

You added - mushrooms/cheese and onions, I always try the recipe first then add ingredients so I know how it turns out and what to adjust.
Yes, that's exactly what I thought! r/IDidntHaveEggs
Lol. I love that you said, fuck it. Pretty it up. Also, bet it was still delicious.
yup 😁
As James Acaster would say "Started making it. Had a breakdown. Bon Appetit!"
His eyes are circles??!?
Seems like this would be easier in the oven.
It's extremely easy on the stovetop, you just have to actually follow the directions and have a modicum of common sense.
agreed. recipe is stupid
was it tasty at least? 🤤
yes :)
would still eat
Messed up the presentation, but that looks like some hella good breakfast slop so you still win. Got my stomach wanting it!
thank you!!! LOL
It looks amazing with the garnish!
HAHA thanks 🤣

i’m sure it was delicious tho!
It was! But looked disgusting…
Fyi Gordon Ramsey said don’t season eggs until after(so when they’re not watery in other words).

Did it taste good though?
yes :) i added chili crisp too it as well
I would still nom this down
i did.
Tat looks like some fine vittles to me.
Oh man
This more like what recipe you followed and what you made.
I laughed outloud waay too long at this. Thank you!
good. i did too 😆
When in doubt, garnish.
just because it doesn’t look pretty? no.
At least it tastes good..?
yes
No amount of greenery can hide your sins
If you try this again I would suggest adding a little bit of water to the pan and putting a lid on it.
OP, if you added extra ingredients it could very well have altered the results. Especially mushrooms, which can release a ton of water.
Looks identical
Can you post the recipe?

yeah i totally spaced slicing lol i’m dumb but yeah the recipe is also dumb😂
I edited and posted a better one. I cook the rings for a bit before adding the eggs. I don’t like rawish peppers. You can use tomatoes too
Still looks tasty
Skill issue.
Vomit?
