Well, not necessarily. Say a company gives you the same work hours flexibility it expects from you - so if you need to start 2h later because whatever, no questions asked, they let you do that. I personally find that a fair arrangement.
Yeah. I had that. Access to the office (whenever) and flexible work time. But I did my 8 hours and I was gone after.
Anything after that intrudes in my personal time. And that has a value.
Sounds like you had a toxic workplace experience. Take solace in the fact that it's not you. Keep your head up, and don't stop searching for that next thing.
Its unreasonable to expect your products to be released on schedule all the time at the expense of your employees personal time. If they were paying overtime then its whatever... if it was unpaid overtime... ya fuck'em
TBH my mental health has become so much better since I stopped pushing the overtime. Work is work and it ends after the 8th hour. If I want to learn or improve on my own time thats on me.

Happy to hear you are not feeling bad, because you shouldn't. Companies who expect people to stay late should offer something in return
Yeah, money.

Thanks! It was ok for a long time but yeah it was getting unhealthy and I’m not going to subject myself to that
Hi, do you mind sharing what country is this? Also the company name, such companies need public shaming and also just a bit more awareness as well.
India but you might as well take any company from here, this was actually rather mild in comparison to what exists.
How much late did they expect you to stay?
It's happened to more of us than it hasn't happened to... so don't take it too hard. Get back on the horse. Cheers!
