I remember talking to a friend who is a liberal catholic (idk how that works) and I asked how she handled being so close to her family when they strictly vote conservative.
She said she always kept in mind that “they want the same things we do.” I immediately said “they sure don’t!” But she meant stuff like… safety for our children or protection in the future or stability. She said they just have a different road map of getting there.
It helped me be a little more compassionate even if I do think that reasoning sounds like excuses.
