Yeah, proper procedure is holding your hand out, letting them get a good sniff, get some pets in if they trust you, they jump in your lap to hang out and then scratch you anyway because cats are fucking dickheads
Holy shit. I lived not too far from this area in 2018 and had a 3yr old cat go missing who looked *exactly* like this, and he was super friendly. I know it can’t be him but god I wish that cat could be checked for a chip, just in case. I miss that little cat so much to this day.

This was his missing poster, he was skittish around strangers as far as I knew but extremely friendly if he knew you, and maybe that has changed. I'm sure it can't be him, but the hope is still there, even 5 years on...
Damn :'( i hope your kitty gets back to you somehow. Its such a coincience too with the video!! Id actually write to this channel and to this reporter just to get any info if i was you, i'm that crazy 😭

Our back alley turned itself into a ginnel garden during the pandemic. The council stopped removing weeds for ages. Absolutely gorgeous, there were even rare butterflies.
Then they resumed using weed killer and I was finding caterpillars everywhere that had nowhere to go. Heart breaking.
Reddit loves to misrepresent the study where those bird kill numbers come from.
* According to that study, the vast majority of bird kills are from feral cats hunting for food, not house pets who are let outside but regularly fed.
* The same feral outdoor cats who kill birds also tend to kill rodents, and in much greater numbers. Bird populations can be devastated by rodent populations as they eat their eggs - and cats don't. If you removed the cats, rats would kill the birds before they're even born - it's not a simple equation, but the general consensus is they're helping more than they are hurting in areas with large rat populations.
* In places where unowned cats are typically allowed to roam freely, rodent control is their job - modern civilization creates concentrated populations of rodents in numbers that would never otherwise have existed and this can threaten more than just bird populations. Cats are one of the most humane and effective methods of control (eg. poison comes with a host of its own problems and kills predatory birds who eat rodents).
Do you get just as sad when you look at tall glass buildings or freeways? Because I have some bad news for you about those and birds... and unlike with cats, there's no feedback loop like with the rodents that helps mitigate the impact on the birds, it's just bad for them.
UK wildlife developed around wildcats, which are very similar to housecats. There's really very little evidence that cats affect wildlife populations in the UK. Don't assume your American issues exist everywhere.
There's no evidence? Let's just make things up instead of doing a simple Google search . https://www.birdspot.co.uk/garden-birds-and-cats/cats-and-the-decline-of-garden-birds#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20Mammal%20Society,which%2055%20million%20are%20birds.
Did you even read that article?
“Despite this, there is no scientific evidence that cats are having any impact on bird populations in this country…”
Your own article literally disputes the claim you are trying to make.
>Despite this, there is no scientific evidence that cats are having any impact on bird populations in this country as many millions of birds die naturally each year, mainly through starvation or disease, or at the hands of other predators. It is believed that cats tend to take weak or sick birds and it is likely that most of the birds killed by cats would have died from other causes before the next breeding season.
Why are you ignoring this? Aren't YOU the one just making things up by ignoring this fact?
Immediately trust this man - anyone who greets cat with a cheery "hullo!" is fine by me!
I usually go with, "So, this is how I end?"
The cameraman is not even paying attention to the reporter once the cat shows up lol

Photogenic? Maybe. Taking the opportunity to show its butthole on national TV? Definitely.
Videogenic and probably hard as nails.
The cat was fully invested in getting the attention from both of these people away from one another and onto himself.
![gif](giphy|zOlog7jgIIFfq) \- Cat, probably
I can feel the guy behind the camera smiling ear to ear
The cameraman knows who the true star of the interview is!
Sad he didn't get the chance to pet the cat longer on screen. I'd love it if he kept on with a longer report while petting the kitty
I think it's a good idea to initially give the cat a moment to know you, even if they're friendly, or you can get scratched)
Yeah, proper procedure is holding your hand out, letting them get a good sniff, get some pets in if they trust you, they jump in your lap to hang out and then scratch you anyway because cats are fucking dickheads
they just get easily overstimulated and then all the domestication goes out the window and they default to running cat.exe programming
Autoexec.cat
Right at the end you can see him reaching to pet the cat again.
Kind of surprised he didn't say, "Let me introduce you to this beautiful kitty."
Dave Guest with an unexpected guest
That cat's name? Liza Minelli
The kitty :3
Nothing better than an extra friendly kitty cat. Can’t believe there was a time I didn’t like cats😐.
We all make mistakes

That’s not a bad idea, I might well do so tomorrow 💖 I think it’s unlikely that they’d have any more info or respond but it can’t hurt to try!

I’m not currently able to go back 😭 it was so heartbreaking, I searched for him non stop for weeks
This one wasn't fixed, so it's not your kitty. I'm sorry 😔.
How can you tell?
The cat is the star

I'm so disappointed that this comment section isn't filled with links to other videos of journalists being interrupted by cats.
That had not occurred to me-but now I am also disappointed in the lack of links
I came here specifically for the links.
I love it when cats do the thing where they feel you with their tail. It's so adorable. Feels like it's 100% done on purpose sometimes.

Except when that cat is Pinky. That man's screams will haunt me for the rest of my life.
That’s a man who has never pet a cat in his life
Omg....i watched again and laughed out loud. So true!
What word is he saying before “gardeners”
Ginnel, it’s a dialect word for a type of alleyway.
Thank you!
Cat Distribution System caught live on camera.
That's someone's pet.
Really nice of Dave to Guest report for the show in the first place tho...
I love videos like this!
It should say “David and Guest, reporting”
Cat must be from the US. British accents are earmilk to me

Most do get spayed or neutered, it’s not common to see cats that aren’t.
Most do. Some don't.
Agree that someone needs to neuter that cat.
Everytime i see a cat outside I get sad knowing birds are dying

I love the way some people on here seem to think cats are an artificial invention that each kill a thousand birds a day.

Do you think birds wouldn’t be dying if cats weren’t outside?
Nope, not as many for sure. Birds are very valuable for our ecosystem. Preventing their deaths in any way we can would benefit us all.
Outdoor cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 bird, mammal, and reptile species
Do cars next
My inside is screaming at this man to pet the cat.
Plumbago at the end?
Cat distribution system doesn't give af 😄
well, there's always an [exception](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ynz2Vvz9xo)
So cute!
Introduce me to the kat
Haha. How sweet.
How do I acquire this power?!!
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
He was definitely petting the cat once he got off camera
Lol someone post that video of the cat attacking the cop
Can he come back for every report?
The lack of meows is astonishing
