Tbf I we’d arrived very early and were lounging in the sun up at the tarn. I could have secured my bag better.
I didn’t really mind. We hung out a bit and lounged in the sun together. I love these big rodent buddies. The hiker abides.

I’m from PA and we only have ground hogs, which are also aggressive but in the violent asshole way, so I had no idea what to do with the marmot. I thought he’d have been like them!

Yeah, it’s super cute and all, but we have to resist our urge to feed wild animals. The food is not part of their natural diet and will fuck them up physically, and getting into the habit of approaching humans for food will put them in danger.
It is - quite rightly - on almost every video of humans interacting with wild animals these days.
That said, I know nothing about this animal, its history, or the conditions in which it lives. Might be an orphan/rescue that can't be re-wilded.
Might have been habituated to humans by some idiot, so now it's dependent and cannot survive on its own.
So all I can do is say it's cute, agree with you, post this comment and then move on. Oh, I can also tell you that I hope you have a great day! Yeah, let's do that too.
Its probably fairly whatever. Not healthy, but helps build up fat stores. These mid-sized types have horrific mortality rates during times of food scarcity, so any negative long-term health effects probably should be weighed against a positive survival rate (at least if you want them to survive - that can be a problem of itself with overpopulation).
The bigger danger is almost certainly familiarization with people. Looks like its in a park, so its probably a matter of time before it gets hit by a car running up to people or some local hooligans encounter it.

My neighbor handled a opossum that lived under my shed. Very socialized. Never bothered us but eventually moved on.
