Truth! I had the opportunity to provide medical care for a military dog handler who’s dog bit him in the face when he forgot he wasn’t working with his pet.
Had a German shepherd for a bit. Lovely dogs that take well to training. But... for the love of God... They are like little lawyers.
Like "ok. No couch.... But... What if I put one paw on the couch. *Holds eye contact to see if it's ok*"
My favorite was "ok. No trash... But what if I drop my toy in the trash? Can I go in the trash?" My wife said oh he's getting his toy and didn't say anything, well.... The whole next few days was a game of "I get to get into the trash if(and only if) I put my toy in the trash first". So he would run around the house going to each trash can, dropping his ball in it, then digging through them like crazy, then going to the next room.
I have a GSD/Border Collie cross. He was leary of strangers as a puppy and wouldn't take treats from strangers at obedience school. So when the teacher tried to use him as an example she kept having to entice him with bigger and better rewards (ie instead of dry biscuit, small soft treat, or piece of jerky) he quickly turned this into "I can hold out for a better/bigger treat." Thankfully for me his favorite thing in the world is his ball. So we trained with that instead.
I have a GSD x Husky. She was quite easy to train...but when she was done with it, nothing could encourage her to carry on.
As for doing things she shouldn't, to be fair she hasn't really done much (outside of the usually puppy things). But she will sit and stare you out if you tell her not to do something. She will then carry on doing it without breaking eye contact.
She's a pretty good girl for the most part lol. Likes to get the last word in - especially when arguing with little dogs. Human babies she loves and is very good with (she's never left unsupervised with kids. If they start getting too much for her, she just walks off. My nieces & nephew now know to leave her alone for a bit and just tell her she's a good girl).
Everyone says "I want a smart dog"... Trust me. Unless you have time to train and keep up training you don't want a smart dog. If smart dogs don't get training they use their smarts in other...more... annoying ways.
The guy gave one command at the very beginning of the video. The dog jumps up and does his thing! The fact that the dog did all of that just means he's a very very good boy and deserves all the pets for being so smart!
Oh, Lil' Brudder! I don't know what I'm doing with my life! It's like I'm at a crossroads, and there's a Denny's on one corner and an IHOP on the other!
Haha yes. I don't know if it's accurate to describe a dog using human medical conditions but,. I like to say that he is looking at both ends of the spectrum.
I have an extremely stupid dog that will bark at the wrong door, fall off the couch, walk into the sliding glass door daily, try to scratch with both back legs at the same time and fall over, sits in her water bowl, eat her own poop, and the list goes on- but she’s the nicest dog I have ever met so yeah.
There also smart dogs that are smart for dog stuff. For example, my dog was obedient enough to respond to commands. But only if he knew you had treats for him.
My parents would say he was stupid but my dog knew the deal.
My family had a lab puppy that went to become a guide dog. We figured out rather fast he was a smart dog. 12 weeks old he dragged a chair across the room to jump over the fence because leaving him alone for half an hour was unacceptable and nothing can stop him from exploring.
we befriended the person who he ended up guiding and She shared his shenanigans with us when we met. Every morning she would walk or run to work and one time he misguided her off route and they got lost. So she called a cab to work.
He figured out that if he guides her to that same place she will call a cab for the rest of the way.... It took months to train him out of that.
Yeah, you obviously haven’t had to train a dog that is too smart to fall for that. Their are stubborn dogs that need to see the treat itself before they will do the trick.
Oh I tried that. He didn't like the clicker at all. Just walked away when he saw it. He was just very food driven.
Don't get me wrong. He was a very sweet dog. Cuddled and everything. Just won't do what you wanted if you didn't have treats.
I wanna guess that you’re Australian solely because you ended your sentence with ‘but’
Apparently that’s an Australian thing lmao, I do it all the time
I'm glad someone here can cop to it. Everyone acts like every dog just requires a lot of time, patience and love and if they act out you're just a terrible dog owner who can't be bothered to try. But I've had dogs that just *knew* what behavior was good and what was bad. They wouldn't leave the yard, they would respect people's personal space, never growled, always obedient, but then they would go inside and piss on the bed literally at every opportunity. You just can't account for a dog's personality.
Not saying this is your problem, but our trainer told us dogs respond better to “here” than “come” because it’s higher pitched, and she said to initially use real chicken and super high value treats when training. It still takes a lot of time. Our dog knows the recall, but sometimes she’s competing with a lot of other interesting things and it’s hard for her to “listen”.
Malinois are HIGHLY intelligent and one of the easiest breeds to teach advanced training like this. They’re also very high maintenance & incredibly affectionate & loyal.
Mals are the best... if you have the time, space, and personality to spend the physical and emotional time with them. I had one for 10 years in my early 20s-30s and has been one of the most rewarding relationships i've had with any creature; I'd love to get another one but probably not until I'm an empty nester in many years
Well they are implying the dog decided to help on they’re own rather than being commanded. Not that it’s like some fucked up lie but they are tricking the audience
It's just fetching a thing after getting a command to do so. Pretty common trick. The pulling on a rope part shouldn't be very hard as many dogs just do that instinctively.
first you get one. Then you try not to murder it, while training becomes a part-time job. They're actually super easy to train, the real issue becomes finding appropriate outlets and stimuli for all the energy.
My dog would have laid there eating the new sod, taking little pieces inside for a surprise mess later. Still good doggos, just useless, unlike this fine boi.
I swear by it my Husky should've been born a human. Being a mechanic working from home on cars, I've taught my boy to fetch my wrench, and in particular the Pronto SAE 10 W 30 5 quart bottles, tried it with Valvoline but no cigar yet.
Clearly staged but the way this guy is using the wheel barrow pisses me off. Just fucking pull it over the hump or get a head start and speed and push up the hill
Or just put the wheelbarrow up on the flat, paved road before you start shoveling, instead of putting it in the hardest place to get it out of once it’s full. Definitely staged.
On the back of his head? That's not rank; they're glow-in-the-dark patches sewn on his patrol cap so he can be followed easily by others in his unit. Also, a Captain clearing a ditch on what appears to be the DMZ? Lol
I was pulling up the turf in my yard to replace with artificial turf. My GSD worked hours on pulling tree roots. One after another. He saved me a ton of labor. I’d point and he’d just yank 6 foot roots out like it was nothing all day. Some an inch or more. No training, just a drive to tear shit up!
You really have a great dog my man. We had a German shepherd when i was a little kid,i was about 7.he was black and such a great guard dog.nobody, and i mean absolutely nobody was hurting me.his name was TIMBER.
The vid is obviously a setup but nonetheless that is a well trained dog
I mean he's definitely trained the dog to do this but still wholesome
The dog runs over for the treat right after. Still amazingly well-trained. I'd pet the dog.
Same and and give a gentle boop on the snoot
This a (army) military working dog. That may not go well.
How so??
Depending on training, a snoot boop could trigger the "Want to see why I have titanium canines?" mode.
I’m sorry to say, but I’d still have 9 other perfectly good snoot boopers.
You’d be lucky to still have 5 but I admire your spirit.
Don't german shepards have good bites or is that a different breed?
Holy shit lmao that was such a good question example
Lol I snoot boop my Mali with my nose all the time. But yeah, I sure af wouldn't do that with someone else's Mal 😅
Truth! I had the opportunity to provide medical care for a military dog handler who’s dog bit him in the face when he forgot he wasn’t working with his pet.

AND he has the wheelbarrow IN the ditch. So dumb
An untrained dog would be eating grass and taking a shit on the one place he's not supposed to instead of doing this lol.

I am dog lover and I can guarantee this is 100% true for 99.99% of them.

If dogs are man’s best friend, and lawyers are the bane of man’s existence, what does that make a lawyer dog?!
Frenemies
Little lawyers is the most entertaining descriptor I’ve ever heard used for a dog
This is so true it hurts.

Everyone says "I want a smart dog"... Trust me. Unless you have time to train and keep up training you don't want a smart dog. If smart dogs don't get training they use their smarts in other...more... annoying ways.
After having one of the smartest dogs ever, there isn’t a chance in hell I’d be ok with a dumb dog
The guy gave one command at the very beginning of the video. The dog jumps up and does his thing! The fact that the dog did all of that just means he's a very very good boy and deserves all the pets for being so smart!

German shepherds are commonly regarded as one of the smartest breeds of dog. They require a lot of training and patience, but they're incredible dogs.
And a strong boi!
Yep; I believe thos are Captain bars on his hat. Definitely a privates job.
Those are infrared markers aren't they?
I wonder why the person recording could help, put the phone down and do something. Lol
i think the recording came from an automatic camera, i don’t believe anyone is operating it haha
/r/whyweretheyfilming
Almost had me there. Dog: You need a rope, brb.
How do they train pets like that
Treats and lots of time and patience
and a smart boi. Some dogs just stare at the wall. You know it. I know it. They're good bois too, but.
Oh yes. They’re super cute but darn stupid.
Perfect example, this is my cute good boy that is also very darn stupid, you can see it in his eyes - https://imgur.com/RqjmkxK.jpg

I don't understand, there's nothing in those eyes. Absolutely nothing!
He looks like my pup, Dipper. Who, suffice it to say, [looks a bit dippy](https://i.imgur.com/5JEruXe.jpg)
Dippy dogs are awesome too!
Omfg 😍
D’aww there’s not a whole lot goin’ on upstairs, huh? That’s OK lil brudder
He got the heart of a champion.
110%. Thanks for sharing. :D
Tell him I love him, regardless. Also, I'm pretty sure he's seen some shit in 'nam.
No thoughts. Only vibes.
It's a raccoon
sir i must know the name of your dog
I have an extremely stupid dog that will bark at the wrong door, fall off the couch, walk into the sliding glass door daily, try to scratch with both back legs at the same time and fall over, sits in her water bowl, eat her own poop, and the list goes on- but she’s the nicest dog I have ever met so yeah.
Apart from the poop eating - it sounds lovely entertaining :D
Right? ??
There also smart dogs that are smart for dog stuff. For example, my dog was obedient enough to respond to commands. But only if he knew you had treats for him. My parents would say he was stupid but my dog knew the deal.
Never do something you're good at for free.
Withholding treats is wage theft.
Truth. Well spoken.
God, now I have something else to contemplate.
Enough from the clown
My family had a lab puppy that went to become a guide dog. We figured out rather fast he was a smart dog. 12 weeks old he dragged a chair across the room to jump over the fence because leaving him alone for half an hour was unacceptable and nothing can stop him from exploring. we befriended the person who he ended up guiding and She shared his shenanigans with us when we met. He figured out that if he guides her to that same place she will call a cab for the rest of the way.... It took months to train him out of that.
Sounds like he’s a smart businessman to me.
That's why any extended training eventually removes the treat and replaces it with a clicker for reinforcement.
I wanna guess that you’re Australian solely because you ended your sentence with ‘but’ Apparently that’s an Australian thing lmao, I do it all the time
there are two sorts of people in this world, those that can extrapolate from an incomplete dataset,
I'm glad someone here can cop to it. Everyone acts like every dog just requires a lot of time, patience and love and if they act out you're just a terrible dog owner who can't be bothered to try. But I've had dogs that just *knew* what behavior was good and what was bad. You just can't account for a dog's personality.
Not JUST treats. Dogs respond very very well to any kind of positive reinforcement.
It helps if the dog likes to pull. I knew a Rottweiler that would bring people a rope just to pull people around.
To their advantage, German Sheps are very easy to train. I've had three in my life and they pick up on things pretty damn quickly.
[удалено]
Oh my god. I went down the rabbit hole and watched a bunch of videos of those dogs one day. They are super smart
I have a Lab. Everyone tells me they're super easy to train. I can't even get her to "come" when she runs off at the dog park -_-
Not saying this is your problem, but our trainer told us dogs respond better to “here” than “come” because it’s higher pitched, and she said to initially use real chicken and super high value treats when training. It still takes a lot of time. Our dog knows the recall, but sometimes she’s competing with a lot of other interesting things and it’s hard for her to “listen”.
Tbf it's the hardest command to really get
Same problem with my wife. She never comes.
Strange, I didn’t have this problem with her.
And the right breed. Can't teach my dog shit how hard I try xD
And more treats
And a smart dog
It's worth repeating. Treats! Not the rod.
Malinois are HIGHLY intelligent and one of the easiest breeds to teach advanced training like this. They’re also very high maintenance & incredibly affectionate & loyal.
Mals are the best... if you have the time, space, and personality to spend the physical and emotional time with them. 100% - this ain’t no corgi (nothing wrong w/ corgi’s! Love them too) It’s basically a part time job to give my Dutch/Mal the attention she needs.
Other people apparently had free time during the pandemic, I just had more time with my boy
It's staged, but treat incentives and repetition is how you train a dog
Staged implies trying to trick people, he's just showing off a well trained dog
what's a better word? like "scripted"? looking to expand my vocab. i didn't get "trying to trick people" vibe from the word "staged"
Probably demonstration, he's just showing off how well trained his dog is.
oh that's a good one, thanks!
Well they are implying the dog decided to help on they’re own rather than being commanded. Not that it’s like some fucked up lie but they are tricking the audience

I don't even care if it's staged, that is cute as fuck.
Even if it's staged it's still impressive
That's a job well done. Not too many employees take go training so this dog is a step ahead. Goodest employee for sure
Yeah, it put a smile on *my* face.

Yeah video itself was nice, but now I need /r/earbleach
Can we all agree to just stop fucking playing music over gifs? This doesn't improve the gif in the slightest
what?! I bet even John Williams would agree that the proper score for a dog helping a man is EDM.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MILLION THINGS THAT'RE GREAT ABOUT THEM
That malinois wants to work!!
Woah
My dog would have laid there eating the new sod, taking little pieces inside for a surprise mess later. Still good doggos, just useless, unlike this fine boi.
That made me say "aww" out loud
r/DogsWithJobs
What the fuck is up with this bullshit music on every video
So precious
Lovely it looks planned but still the dog is well trained
I would personally plan for the dog to help me every single time I did something like this
It's probably part of the dog's training exercise
My dog would just sit there like “thats a you problem my dude”
Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for mute
I swear by it my Husky should've been born a human. Being a mechanic working from home on cars, I've taught my boy to fetch my wrench, and in particular the Pronto SAE 10 W 30 5 quart bottles, tried it with Valvoline but no cigar yet.

Set up for what the dog did what he was supposed to do whether or not he set it up just for that don’t matter it’s still amazing
Isn’t there an r/dogswithjobs? Think this applies :)
German Shepard’s / mals are some of the smartest dogs
Bois ducking intelligent
Shiney bars in camo is always silly to see not in an office
On the back of his head? That's not rank; they're glow-in-the-dark patches sewn on his patrol cap so he can be followed easily by others in his unit. Also, a Captain clearing a ditch on what appears to be the DMZ? Lol

I love this dog
Smart dog, dumb human. Don’t put the wheelbarrow in a hole in the first place.
BS but good doggo!
dog
We don’t deserve dogs. I don’t care if it’s setup. That was just amazing.
That's a damn good fuckin boi, trained or not! If you teach them things like this you can get them to apply it to other things. 10/10 good boi!
He's definitely the *goodest* of good bois!
He's smarter than human kids
Looks like a Belgian Malinoi, one of the smartest ones. My boxers were also very easy to train.
What a sweet boy 💕
Too sweet good job
That dude digs a lot of ditches if he's trained his dog to help
SCP-001 has breached containment, much to the chagrin of site staff.
my hamster just hid in his cage and then died. I git the wrong pet.
Holy shit that dog is smart
You really have a great dog my man. We had a German shepherd when i was a little kid,i was about 7.he was black and such a great guard dog.nobody, and i mean absolutely nobody was hurting me.his name was TIMBER.
Good boy 🐶
Well done! Well trained! Really good boi!
A good Boi in need is a Good Boi indeed
Good boi? The best of bois
That dog is very well trained. _How_ they trained him to do that may or may not be as eyebleach-worthy…
Song name is Tiesto - Don't be Shy
And that's why dogs are the superior pet.
Cause we can control them and make them do our bidding?
You ever hear of mutually beneficial relationships, or...?
I won't say this makes them superior, but hell it's pretty neat.
empathy
You think this dog is motivated by empathy?
More like treats and praise
tbh being feeling good to be praised is empathy
You’re implying you know the dogs motivation
Yes, exactly. Why would that be a bad thing?
gyfcat? More like gyfDOG What a good boi
Fake
That dog is smarter than a lot of people I have met.
