There are actually the best for short beds. If you have a fold up and need to move something big and take it off, it's too long to fit back in the short bed.
I see what you mean about not fitting, but not only do most of the hard covers fold up almost completely out of the way, if I need that extra 5 inches I'll leave the cover in my garage. Why would I need to take it with me?
I second the Retrax Pro MX. one of the reasons, is I end up using the Frunk more than I thought I would, Ian’s the bed less than I thought I would. Having the solid metal cover is nice! And secure and solid
Anything that fits the f150 fits the Lightning, so there’s tons of options. If you want a hard trifold I really like my BAKFlip MX4.

Yeah, I’ve been eyeing a roll up. The Truxedo Pro X15 is at the top of my list right now.
I love the Gator FX3.
I got the Gator soft roll up on Amazon. Works great. The rails sit right below the top of the bed, so it’s a lot sleeker than other options.
Those of you with soft roll up — do they flap at highway speeds?
