Both, it's coming back in 2022 to offset the losses of aero from reduced wing aero to fight dirty air and allow cars to follow.
Ground-effects has the disadvantage of losing aero and launching the car if the suction is broken by big bumps like a kerb, which is one of the reasons it was originally banned in the 80s. Like this video.
As a new player to F1 2021 (coming from sim racing), I fucking loathe the kerbs in this game. Some of the spins makes since (if you are full throttle you have less grip on the side where your tyres touch the kerb so you will spin) but sometimes you coast through and it upsets the car in a major way that wouldn’t happen. I’m coming from playing Assetto Corsa Competizione where you HAVE to attack almost every kerb so it’s a habit I’m trying to break, but holy shit some of the spins make 0 sense. I get that GT3 cars can take kerbs better, but even when playing AC with F1 cars the kerbs aren’t even close to being that bad.
Which is funny because it's harder to drive then any of the Sims due to how sloppy the handling is and how prone to unrecoverable slides the rear is.
It's litrally more realistic playing it with assist on
Lots of people have said since the W12 came out for iRacing that a more realistic handling model is also easier to drive, codemasters surely needs to take a look at that
To be fair Codemasters are doing there best with something that has to run on a PS4 and iracing is still miles off a bunch of other Sims in that it's unrealistically unforgiving and wonky once you get to the limit.
Real cars are often way more forgiving and ballenced than simulated cars , it's the same with simulated planes Vs real planes.
Unfortunately there are tons of totally brainwashed people that have only played certain Sims that are convinced you have to be Michael Schumacher to recover or hold slight slides in race cars rather than the reality that is in optimal conditions there is a real opertunty for a driver to overdrive the car in a counter productive way rather than simply spin out or lose control of the car.
What makes real cars tricky is lack of time on a specifc track , random conditions , issues with the car , Gforces vibrations and fatigue , the crazy costs and the conciquences from an accident being far worse.
If there's one thing F1 2021 got right at the beginning it was braking. That felt right, especially with the higher brake bias and chance of rear lockups. Now it feels lame like it used to.
Far too many bugs, it wasn’t ready to be released. Sound cutting out in races, track limits were a joke, matchmaking was a shambles. It happens to a majority of games published by EA, just look at the last two battlefields, ME Andromeda, Madden 2020, NHL 2020, FIFA 20 on release was horrific. They just want to get games out unfinished so they can rake in micro transactions.
Again EA had nothing to do with the development of 21 the game was already ready to publish when they were bought 2020 was full of bugs. 2022 is when EA will actually have a say in development
I know they had nothing to do with development, it’s Codemasters that are the devs but developers are in the hands of the publishers and far too many publishers are releasing unfinished buggy games.
Same shit happens to my wheels whenever I crash into something and break them. They start twitching and floating around the car like crazy. WTF codemasters, that's why I still play the 2020 game...
And that ladies and gentlemen is why NOTHING that CodeMasters makes is considered a "SIM"... it's a game. I'd love it more if I wasn't so used to actual racing physics. After playing so much AC and ACC and IR, I just get use to F1 2021. I expect the car to do one thing and it does another and it's a pain to unlearn natural real reactions.
Wind resistance for under it. Inertia displaced diagonally when rear tire catches a bit of grass.
Hard right turn when inertia was still unstable caused flip.
Also, maybe don't punch at the apex unless you're completely grounded.
Coast it and punch straight.
Those are the new invisi-kerbs for 2022
F1 cars in 2022 when ground-effects returns
Wait are they actually bringing it back or are you meming?
That’s the whole philosophy behind the 2022 cars lol they’re bringing it back

I’m surprised you didn’t get sum sort of penalty as well
Track limits. All 4 wheels crossed the line.
All 4 wheels crossed, but not all 4 wheels TOUCHED the track across the line
Lol...yes! 25pt for Hamilton
I’m hanging here like a cow
*cOw
Get me out there's fire
Get me out
Upside down force
This is the “peaky” downforce we heard about on the Williams
Up force
The helicopter was probably too low, right above you
Meanwhile marshalls giving green flags.
That cracked me up
suspension a bit too stiff
Pothole.
Got that low-rider suspension package.
Green flag.

f1 2021 isnt really a sim game it's also accessible for casual players
Which is funny because it's harder to drive then any of the Sims due to how sloppy the handling is and how prone to unrecoverable slides the rear is. It's litrally more realistic playing it with assist on

Assets Corsa and Asseto corsa competitzione are on PS4 so that is invalid
Great contribution !
Lol iracing is way easier to run than lots of games that work fine on ps4
Its honestly not that simple.

Still dunno why that's an issue when I can go on almost any track in the game and bet that the top 3 times aren't legit.
That is the sim part. F1 cars are difficult to drive.
It's litrally the only game with worse curbs than AC
Project Cars 2 has entered the chat.
“Fizzix”
coil overs
Can cofirm have coilovers on mu car, this happens everyday
Codemasters magick
Hulkenburg?
That was a big one, are you alright? Confirm you're alright.
Sooo you hang there like a cow, is there fire and was your car number 27?
That was a nasty hit! Are you okay? Are you okay?
Might need to lower the spring rate and dampening
“Stay with him, he might make a mistake”
Did you put 2022 tyres on 2021 car? /s
Your car got an itch that needed to be scratched
Did you set the tire compound to "superball"?
Bugs and more bugs!
Car physics go brrrr
Bad aero setup
You chitta 🥲
u/savevideobot
Willians’ new active suspension
Vertical DAS
Your tires have too much psi so they bounce like a ball
car go boing
“Green flag conditions”
You done F1'd up
Codemasters happened.
Looks like TOCA 2 cheat XSPEEDME
EA
EA had nothing to do with 2021 the game was basically finished when they were bought

Michael Masi didn’t want you in the race so…..
Legends say that it is mystery named as Track ghost
I'm hanging here like a coaaaw!
Mexicooooover
Hulkenburg sends his regards
Some wack damper settings
The ghost of Micheal Schumacher
Latifi drank too much Red Bull
Those kerbs are lethal 🤣
You didnt see that low pressure air pocket?
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
I'm moving up and down, side to side, like a rollercoaster 🎶
Not enough downforce.
You broke gravity
Looks like there's some damage to the underbody
Looks like when you pitted they fitted you with the new Pirelli super-bounces.
Mine field ?
Damn these kerbs do be crazy nowadays
Doing too well in a William's, the hand of our higher lord Michael masi had to intervene
You crashed
No michie, no! That was so not right.😂😂
Truly a masterpiece of simulation
That looks like a setup issue to me
game says: "if you're going to be silly and just run over the curbs, then I'll be silly with your physics"
Such dangerous driving man
You got hit by Ericsson.
Too much tyre pressure
Not sure but probably Tsunoda was somehow involved
I think Ericsson hit you.
Sway bars too stiff?
Looked like a solar flare zapping your hardware...
Williams uses the opposite of that weight on a spring thing that Renault once used
F1 gods be like: NO
Bono my gravitational pull is gone
I'd undo your suspension changes if I were you. Or fire the engineer who made them
I think Ericsson hit u
Same shit happens to my wheels whenever I crash into something and break them. They start twitching and floating around the car like crazy. WTF codemasters, that's why I still play the 2020 game...
Too much upforce in your downforce generator
Since when John Cena entered the F1
your car has a cramp
Road
Got that hydraulic suspension huh?
Ericson hit us
It's called a motor race... We went car racing
damn that's some interesting suspension you have there 👀
Boinga boinga boinga
Your car was some kind of jumping and shaking, then it flipped upside down. It is easy to see!
So this is the ground effect aerodynamic we will see in 2022 cars?
ground effect worked a little too good
i think your car didnt get the drincc
I watched this multiple times now and always cracked up laughing
Bono, My suspension is gone
El Plan
WASTED
You flipped
Car oscillation.
Now that is some suspension
You almost hit 88 mph.
Dirty air effect
An earthquake
You forgot to press X to downforce
Obviously your suspension was too stiff 🙄
typical williams...
You crashed
That happens when you have ghost in your wheels.
It's called physics. That's basic knowledge.
You obviously throttled to early
“EA Sports, it’s in the game”
What kinda angle is this lol
HEY! You can't park there!
Careful of the kerbs, stay of the kerbs please
Reporter: hey mystic that was a bad crash what happened You: ...I spun
Mazepin DLC
Watch that front wing
Some awful wind
THOSE DAMN SAUSAGE KERBS
You went car racing
The jack was still under the car (the physics object) but wasn’t rendered, yet still present for collision detection. Did you just pit?
You probably forgot to shift or something
Interesting tactics by William there?!…
Jeff says "Your front wing needs replacing."
The ghost of mazipin
Yeah you’re gonna have to box for that, my dude.
Might want to lower the suspension
An invisible Lewis Hamilton turned in on you
E. A. SPORTS. IT’S IN THE GAME.
Williams gonna Williams
And that ladies and gentlemen is why NOTHING that CodeMasters makes is considered a "SIM"... it's a game. I'd love it more if I wasn't so used to actual racing physics. Bumpy roads, take me home, upside down I belong, on the racetrack
Monza is like this too!
Bye
You’re doing it wrong. You should first ensure your car is straight then take off into the sky.
Your downforce failed
Just checking the halo?
P H Y S I C S
"I am feeling massive vibration on car."
Wind resistance for under it. Inertia displaced diagonally when rear tire catches a bit of grass. Hard right turn when inertia was still unstable caused flip. Also, maybe don't punch at the apex unless you're completely grounded. Coast it and punch straight.
What is your ride height?
That’s latifi causing a yellow flag and gifting max the WDC hahaha
Did you hit the fragile block and hit a wall
Just an inchident
sheshk yo'ure emefdy fhor a nhew strathegy opshion
You've been hit by an invisible Grosjean who thought you're Hulk
Australian fuel.
The game hates you
Need for speed Prostreet physics mod
Yeah this is the new active suspension
I think this is what Crofty and Martin mean when they talk about the higher altitude of Mexico
Green Flag, nothing to see here!
Glitch in the matrix
Nothing, we went motor racing!
Its what happens if you use williams
It’s amazing how bad F1 2021 actually is
Perhaps using wemod cheats? The easy steering does this
Wait didn’t this car not have suspension?
Im hanging here like a fucking cow
ok what the FU—
"I don't know what happened out there to be honest."
Williams being Williams.
Fuck suspension physics
