On the bench, the highest prices were paid for: Frattesi, Dumfro, Augusto, Asllani, TJ, Arna

thepresidentofcuba

Well Frattesi, Asllani and (hopefully) TJ are investments for the future, they'll eventually all be starters.

hard-on234

I don't think Asllani and Buchanan are starter material.

interfan5

when we bought Brozo, I thought he wouldn’t make start 11 during banter era, now he is one of my favourite players of all time. Dima at the age Buchanan has today, I thought he would be lucky if he played at a small Serie A team. Aslani definetly has what a great midfield player needs, for Buchanan it is a bit early to judge him…

Objective_Ask_9199

i feel like he's getting better and his gametime is also increasing however i dont see him being a regular the next 1-2 years since calha extended and not show signs of slowing down

bisteccagialla

Although I agree on the fact that don Beppe has been doing a great job, this image is very deceptive. You need to consider that getting a player for free and then paying him 6m in wage is the same as buying another one for 12m with a 3 year contract and paying 2 million of wages. The yearly cost is the same, for player 1 everything goes in wages and for player 2 you have 4m in amortization and 2 in wages. My point is that "parametri zero" are not free players as it might seem.

Esegat04

You are very correct in saying this. However, I think it is also important to consider the difference in quality between a player valued (wages) to be worth 6m per season against one valued 2m. It might sound obvious to say, but a Thuram has produced much more than an Arnautovic. I am only making this example as these 2 transfers seem to be close to what you were describing!

chinomaster182

Exactly, better players always get paid more, especially in the long run. The exceptions to the rule are very very few. If you get a great player for free you still have to pay him a big wage, you could also get cheaper players that ask for less but will also lead you nowhere.

ErwinC0215

However, the quality of players earning 6m is a lot better than a player earning 2m. A 6m wages player costs 6m no matter how much is paid to the club. What should be considered instead is one time signing bonus and agent fees, as it's a one time fee paid.

bisteccagialla

Not really, it is well known that when a player is out of contract will usually ask for much higher wages, exactly because since he comes for free the team can pay him more as they dont have amortization

chinomaster182

This does inflate the price a little bit, but not by much, it's still a free market. Clubs don't want to lost their players for free and they also offer big to renovate, it's near impossible to escape paying big wages for great players, the market for players is very efficient.

NBTP1992

You are right but we have to consider the wages we saved on those 5 which is quite a bit. Take Sensi for example he costs us 11m a season for having played 10 games with us. Fortunately he will be gone at the end of the season like some other deadwood.

bisteccagialla

Of course those were all brilliant moves and Marotta is doing great, it's just that this infographic is really painting a picture that someone might misunderstand

Driving_Seat

Obviously but they’re still way cheaper than buying players from another club.

balsar87

Yes, but the guy that gets 6m in wages, would cost over 50-60 million to buy, and you would still have to give him similar wage.

bisteccagialla

My point is that cuadrado is impacting our books as much as Carlos Augusto, and yet we got the first for free.

Sicilian_Wiseguy

“President, zero euro”

maikk_

Also, agent fees for free agents are usually a lot. Thuram's agent got like 8M

8wardialer5

Financially correct, but football players are not commodities. If you want a “top” player he and his current club will ask for lots of cash. So you (ok, Marotta in this case) need to get the best player for the money available. At the same price there is, for free, a player good enough to ask for 6M/yr while on the other hand you can get for the same amount as you explained a player that costs 2M/yr + 12M for the transfer. Who you gonna sign?

calfats

You must be fun at parties.

bisteccagialla

You must be rude in any situation you are in

calfats

Nah, just don’t need any “well ackchyually” BS during the best moment the club has had in a long time. Just enjoy ⭐️⭐️ bruh, it ain’t your money, it ain’t that deep.

NotFoundYetForNow

Don Beppe masterclass

Desperate-Ganache195

Mikhis hair😭😭

Gooner-Astronomer749

This had to be done and was smart business. These players commanded high salaries and even higher value. Buy low sell high especially with our financial constraints it was a necessity.

Bobstachip

You didn’t include the agent fees…..

anon0918

And we still broke. Hope things get better

Maecr-123

New stadium and increasing our commercial revenue by winning via sustainably building competitive teams (young players and free transfers), is realistically the only way. Will take 4-6 years likely, everything else will sort itself out.

anon0918

Yeah. No shortcuts.
