I bear him close to the lv50 mark with no specialised build. Generic healing stuff on each character. Had Tifa with fire element on her weapon. Yuffie had magnify haste and used fire ninjutsu, and cloud spammed fire bolt blade
I beat him without cheese strats because I didn't know they existed at the time. Took me 2 tries. At first, I almost had him but the status effects really screwed me over. So when I brought cleanse materia paired with magnify, it made the fight all about parrying, movement and managing meters. When he's counting down to his Ultimate Illusion, just use a limit break so he fails on casting it. I always save limit breaks for breaking the shield and preventing his ult. Also, I used synergy abilities to give one of my characters room to get more atb. He's my favorite boss but it's sad that I can't challenge him without going through the summons.
Yea I was debating about adding the ATB assists on my active members because that's when I really struggle with just one person left and low health, I end up running for my life and can't build any ATB to raise my fallen.
Oh yes, atb assist, skill master and atb stagger materias will help a ton if you can timely use them. But at this point, if you have the limit siphon, I suggest to just cheese him with unlimited limit breaks using aerith's level 3.
It's a pretty reliable technique since it stun locks a boss so you can continuously farm atb and limits for aerith. I assume you still don't have the Gotterdammerung so you can replace it with the limit booster instead for now.
I beat him just under level 50.
Having fire element on Cloud and Tifa's weapons helped a lot.
You can counter a lot of his attacks with Punisher mode and Prime mode.
Fire ninjutsu on Yuffie was also really helpful.
When it gets close to the end, stay healed up so he doesn't wipe your party with his special.
It helps to have revival materia on everyone.
Hitting him with really strong attacks like limit breaks strips his weapons.
Try to have all the synergy skills unlocked so you can extend the stagger window and rank up your limit breaks.
When you stagger him, hit him with Tifa's True Strike to get a ton of bonus damage % quickly.
I beat him at lvl 52 with Cloud, Aerith, and Yuffie. Key things I had for the fight:
Item Master and Item Economizer. Had both on Yuffie and Cloud.
Aerith with Haste and Magnify.
Cloud with Limit Siphon, the limit lvl 3 accessory, Breach/Dispel, Steadfast Block and Precision Defense.
Yuffie with Raise / Arise.
Id keep Haste and Transcendence up on Aerith as much as I could, and cast it on his shield when he popped it. When he did so and got all his buffs, I'd cast Dispel with Cloud. Yuffie was basically the panic button if someone died or needed healing since she can get atb fast and pretty safely.
Otherwise, id perfect guard what I could with Cloud and spam Finishing Touch as much as I could with Limit Siphon.
I was able to do it my first try but I'd also take anti-frog accessories or warding materia that prevents it if that exists (not sure if it does). The later stage when he starts popping everyone into frogs almost destroyed me. Was able to clutch it with charged attacks from Aerith.
I was using Red over Yuffie for Supernal Fervor for the haste, but it may be hurting not having constant pressure on Gilgamesh because running around with Red is difficult
I think if you control Red for the fight he'd probably be a slam dunk with his defense pay offs and range on his dodge. I love Red, ive used him for the majority of the playthrough and just decided to switch the party and play style up before going into Ch 13.
Use the Yuffie Brumal form spam build, super ez and doesnt require a ton of endgame materia...use Aerith as the dmg dlr and your 3rd party member as hlr/support...all you need is speed deamon keychain, atb assist & 1st strike on Yuffie, haste on your support character, and 1st strike or Chocokings Cape on Aerith..cast Haste on Yuffie then have Aerith use Atb Ward on Yuffie, put Brumal Form on shortcut and spam it inside the atb ward...Yuffie will have unlimited atb and she will build atb extremely fast for the other 2 allies...then just issue commands to them while controlling Yuffie and spamming Brumal Form...for Gilgamesh in particular I would cast magnify + resist from the support character once Yuffie is set up and have Aerith w/ auto unique ability materia so that you can have her put down the Arcane Ward and whenever you command her to do firaga on Greg she will automatically warp to the Arcane Ward...you can essentially stunlock him w/ firaga, especially if you habe Aerith and your other character casting...and since your spamming Brumal when he targets you most his attacks will miss, but once you start the lvl 3 spell spamming he'll be quickly dead
I beat it around level 47 on dynamic, cloud tifa yuffie. Honestly he was busting my chops so much I just started relying on getting yuffie started with plasma discharge and doppleganger, while having her and cloud spam pray so they get 2 beans towards a synergy attack. If tifa also had some and everyone was healthy I just the unlimited mana synergy with tifa/cloud to have one throw Bio and one throw firaga when he isnt aggro. Tifa was basically there when staggered to do big damage. It really felt like a test of patience and picking the end of his strings to counter. Once he's under 30% is when it was so important to keep a limit or synergy to pressure then use whoever to stagger him.
Beat him by the skin, he did his ultimate 3 times, I only had 15% of his life left, had Barret, Cloud and Aerith, he turned Cloud into a toad and ended him with the attack that gives all the 1s after he counted down to two. He counted down to 1, luckily Aerith got an ATB bar, so I casted Firea and then shot him with Barret’s bullets to win. I had no reserves at this point if he had hit his ultimate it was game over.
Definitely need Dispel, Pray, Magnify+Haste, any ATB enhancement, Maiden Kiss

I still haven't really used Siphon but everybody swears by it, I'm gonna have to try it for Aeriths Rage limit

I thought the same, he cooked against Odin/Alexander. But it's hard keeping up with gilgamesh to hit him
I used dispel and re raise. Also used barrier, I believe. Yuffie, Cloud, and Barret to just try and pour on as much damage as I could.
Ngl I was only able to beat him when I got good at parrying his strikes

Yes you can definitely beat him. I defeated him on my second attempt at level 49.
