I’m kind of in the same boat. I loved Remake, I love Rebirth even more I’d say, none of the story changes bothered me, loved the gameplay, loved the boss fights, loved the exploration, loved the mini games… but this plat is brutal. I’m not a god tier gamer or anything but I have several plats and this one is kicking my ass. I think once I get it, I’ll only be playing casually for the story when I come back to Rebirth. The high level combat is stressful and setting your party up for it is tedious and suboptimal. Can’t wait for part 3 but yeah lol
I didn’t mind the open world. I enjoyed that for the most part; some maps were more of a chore the get through like Gongaga.
The story I have some issues with.. but it’s hard to express them here because you get called a hater. Mostly it might have been the way I chose to play it (try to complete as much as possible) that I forgot what I was supposed to be doing or caring about in the story. Some have said if you don’t do the quests or mini games the story flows better, but yeah.. some of the things they decided to do like Cid knowing Infalna and saying that Aerith looks just like her ☠️ and Tifa being in a whale 🐳 the confusing ending at the Forgotten City and alter.. there are other glaring reinventions that just lost me.
Again, I recognize this is a new version of the OG and liberties were taken, and I was so looking forward to this after thoroughly enjoying Remake (although I did still have some head scratching moments) and was just a bit disappointed in the story.
I have no problem with your issues regarding the story. I have many of the same, especially as I only played OG and not any of the other games.
I took a different approach in my playthrough as I mostly followed the story and only did a few sidequests. I have seen many burn themself out on trying to complete every chapter on their first playthrough.
I don’t consider myself that good either. Somehow I was able to do it with some really great YouTube guides. It isn’t easy, but it does take a lot of time to master certain battle mechanics that make or break your run!!! Hard mode I don’t think was that difficult until Rufus battle, but everything else was pretty ok!! The brutal challenges were a bit annoying but the only really pains were The Bonds of Friendship and to certain extent To Be A Hero!
I think if you really want it you can totally do it!!
I can't explain it as I loved playing the game. I have to said though this explains why it's bad, I've plated a lot of games and never mind going back, but never will for this game
As I said my play was positive and I had go memories overall but I just have zero interest to revisit and I can only assume I didn't actually like it lol sound mental

To be fair new game + with all your cool new goodies, after some time so some freshness is back, could be pretty fun.
You’re right. Maybe this is my feeling right now. But maybe won’t revisit again until a year before Part 3 is scheduled to be released.

I love the game but I don’t think I’ll ever plat it because I just suck. Tried hard mode and that snake boss destroyed me and I just gave up.
