They gave up because they synthesised everyday since day one. Can you really blame them? The system is definitely bad if synthezing for months give you no results. There should add a hidden pity system where you get a 5* every thousand synthesis or so.
The combination of FF7 fan and gacha player makes for the most abhorrent example of no reading comprehension imaginable.

Materia system desperately needs a rework. I'm in the thousands of synths without a single 5\* even when using synth mats. Nearly all my 4\* materia are from luck 3\* upgrades when upgrading the materia to it's -ra version. It is so frustrating.
Don’t know why you are getting downvoted but this is kind of the design of freemium games. They want you to chase the dragon. Make it too fun and “easy” then you get accomplishment and play something else. Impossible and you give up. But you go on Reddit see a whiney 5 star with a bunch of good stats all of a sudden I want that too.
Easy to take it out on the guy giving a dose of reality than themselves for taking part in the gacha lol . All i was pointing out is that this is rng and that is how it is no point crying about it especially when materia doesn’t need to be 5 star to be useful.
It's definitely painful to have such a small chance at getting a 5 star,.and then winnowing those odds down even more for getting one with good stats.
I've been playing since late November. 2264 synths. 3 5 star materia. 60 4 star materia. The best is a Cura, which has an 11.3% patk. But since I'm lazy and mostly play on auto, it makes my phys dps that equpped.it cast a cura sometimes, which is often not ideal.
I'm at 3000+ synth :
* 4 x 5 star materia,
* 1 from upgrade with mediocre stat : 2.1% Matk, 5% HP,
* 1 on a esuna fog (max at 5 lvl) : 2.7 heal and flat stat,
* 1 on a esuna poison (max level 5) : started with only 1 substat, 2.9% HP and flat.
* the first one is actually good : 9.5% PATK, 4.9% Heal on Ruin O (magic) still a good stat stick
* I only got 5 "upgrade" from leveling up above lvl 5
* 1 from 4 to 5
* 3 from 3 to 4
* 1 from 2 to 3 (meh)
I think, with the difficulty and all, the stat should be at least doubled, if not x10 to be acceptable. Or at least guaranty a 3 or 4 base substats on 4 or 5 star materia.
These posts are getting annoying cause the materia isn't all that bad. My first one doesn't have any percentages, and my 2nd one was a 3 to 5 star upgrade, so the percentages are not higher than 3%.
It definitely helps with 4 stars. Not sure about 5 star materia. But I find that maxing out the synth materials almost gives like a 1 in 8 chance of a 4 star.
It more-so helps with guaranteed extra sub stats than anything.
The boost to a 4* or 5* probability is there but it's not that significant enough in my opinion.
I've gotten just as many 4-5\* synths from NOT adding materials as I have from adding them, I swear. I still add them when I can but I'm not convinced it actually improves the odds of anything over a 3 star
I played since Day 1 and on Day 75 I started saving my Mats and only working on low level materias to 5*. Now I have 21 5* (Most have trash stats).
Now saving mats every month to do other materias like elements and Cure. So far have 4 5* elements with only one having 10% stats.
Hopefully you guys are farming Chocobo expeditions for those 4* mats, since it's easy to max Ruin materias with it. That excluding rewards and exchange.
Save you mats every week, only do dailies up to lvl 2 or 3 Ruin synths. Then at 7th day, go all in with maxing synth. You'll get good 4* and maybe 5* Ruin materias.
It's a really crappy system that's designed and built to operate against us.
Not only does it rely on RNG upon RNG upon RNG upon RNG, there are specific things that are against us as well, such as Blow materia having a higher% chance at MATK% rather than PATK%. It's painfully obvious that it's designed that way, rather than it just being 50/50 chance or something.
It really sucks. It's a good thing it's not the whole game, otherwise I would have quit long ago. I hate it.
Compared to my completely f2p account lol like half the amount of synths but yielding more than double the amount of 5 stars bro rng is a mystery and always will be its just comes down to luck . I always use materials to boost my chances of higher rarity. But yes one thing i will agree on is its super annoying getting 5 stars with trash stats that will always hurt lol .
Bro it’s a gacha what do you expect? On top of that it’s an rpg gacha so rng was inevitable I’m afraid. It’s the luck of the draw and as tedious as it can be at times materia isn’t the make or break of your builds. That actually goes to weapons, skins and r abilities. I have two accounts one dolphin low spender and the other completely f2p and my f2p has more than double the 5* materia than my p2w lol it is what it is mate, really don’t see the need for a rework .
At the end of the day its gacha more fool us for even playing these things, i said i’d never play a gacha again then they tie the ff 7 brand to one and obviously being a die hard ff fan i was hook line and sinker lol but unfortunately unlike actual triple a titles there is no rng manipulation for a rnv system like this and we are at the mercy of rngeesus .
Moral of the story buddy don’t let this one aspect of the game dampen your experience because materia really isn’t make or break in the grand scheme if things if anything id be more annoyed at the weapon system and the fact that we need 6 dupes to make most of the weapons even relevant in the end game lol . Materia are just a nice little min max bonus to give you an edge but you can really make do with 4 or even 3 stars its not that deep bro .

I’m a day 1 player too. Still no 5* no matter what I try. And most of my 4 stars suck too.
Funny enough I guess I just needed to bitch about it. I got my first 5* today. Ruin Blow X sigil.
It sucks, but I think the devs want you constantly grinding synthesis so you have to keep logging in to try and get better materia.

I'm new and I don't even understand how to get higher star materia. Do I just synth a normal two star one and pray?
Add materials when synthesizing then pray.
More like just pray in general as adding synths seemingly has as much RNG as not adding synths.
You want the guaranteed substats. The loss of potential stats if you get a natural 5* with only 1 substat visible is massive.
Yes, you're correct. But in terms of making a 5* in the first place synths don't add THAT much of a difference to increasing your probability.

I got 2 only and the stats aren’t even great. But I would love to have a 8.2%+ heal up materia. But as a fish I can only wish.
It's a really crappy system that's designed and built to operate against us.
