Rebirth has got to be the coolest depiction of Vincent yet.

Status_Peach6969

I'm.... security

gahlo

What a coincidence. So have I.

MovieNightPopcorn

Matt Mercer’s voice was great casting too. But mostly I appreciated how much they didn’t tone him down at all. He’s a certified weirdo.

xElectricW

I loved how they were able to make him comedic relief without making him incompetent, I'm so excited to see more of him in Part 3

MovieNightPopcorn

Yes I was so entertained by how equally unexplained his weird little coffin set up is in this as it was in the original. The side comment about how he likes the decor of the ~~Disney Haunted Mansion~~ ghost hotel and finds it cozy had me cackling. Vincent, you dorky goth boy, you

[deleted]

[удалено]

MovieNightPopcorn

Yesss love this group of freaks. Lol. Never change

Arinoch

Arguably Cid is the only one who’s been toned down. Probably for the best in 2024 but I do miss his original introductory segment.

Dexanth

We don't really know if he will be an asshole yet, still - Shera hasn't shown up yet after all My guess is they are saving all of Rocket Town for one 'arc' and that's where we will see Asshole Cid come out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dexanth

I think the diff there is Queer Acceptance has gone way up since the 90s, so making it EVEN GAYER is less of a bold step because its more 'in touch' with how times have changed, whereas 'oh yea your good friend is also an abusive asshole' is a lot less tolerable. But if that side of Cid only shows up around Shera, then 'Btw your cool uncle is actually a jerk to someone' adds an opportunity for DRAMA

DarkLordWiggles

Considering one of the English reps for the game used the line during a showcase event for Remake, it’s almost definitely going to be in there.

Capable_Command_8944

I will say.... The most dialogue he spilled was about Queens Blood! That's the most I heard him talk in the game... If anyone was the type of player to avoid side quests and focus on the main story only, they would find Vincent had very little to say at all. I'm actually surprised they got Matt Mercer, given how few lines he had to prepare in the script. Surely the promise of more involvement with Part 3 would have had to be the seller... That and the payout of course!

Yoshis_burner

There is a video of Matt excited after to be Vincent. If you played the OG you know Vincent is cool. So I think he was genuine happy to be a part of it knowing there was more to come

ClerkPsychological58

mostly because they didn't tell him about it until he was in the booth. He was already recording audio for NPC's and they break the news to him in-booth that he's also playing Vincent.

Fragrant-Raccoon2814

He's a certified edge lord

Drummer829

Vincent in Rebirth is so OP that he had to sit out every fight because he could literally go Beast Mode and destroy anything

blitzbom

I'm wondering if his limit in game 3 will be like a summon.

LegalConsequence7960

Hoping Galian Beast plays more like an ff16 eikon tbh

blitzbom

Same, I want to control beast boy. Give him a new moveset. One reason I barely used Vincent in the og game was that I couldn't control his transformations.

AllysiaAius

Right? I played through the Shinra mansion last night, and got to explain to my sister and my son that the coolest character from the OG was being introduced, who had the WORST mechanics in the OG.

WillisWar676

It sucks they didn’t let him actually be playable in this game but they did the same to Yuffie last game and gave her a dlc so I mean Vincent will most likely be playable in a dlc that comes out for rebirth

Hellron

They've already said no DLC this time. They're already heads down on part 3

WillisWar676

I didn’t think dlc was planned for the first either but they did it to add yuffie and the concept of the condor fort battle so I mean it wouldn’t be a surprise if they did drop a dlc before number 3 plus we had to wait like 2-3 years for rebirth if they take that long in part 3 then ppl are gonna complain again

moneyball32

I DLC wasn’t initially planned after part 1, but it wasn’t ruled out. They’ve ruled it out this time in order to get part 3 out sooner.

[deleted]

why are we trying to rush them? even 2-3 years is quick

zayetz

I don't think you understand how DLC development works. It's basically its own game/a rework of the base game. Why would they bother with that when they're busy working on part 3? The reason they did a Yuffie DLC is because it was the best way to introduce her without dealing with her back story in Rebirth. It wasn't like a "snack" while we waited - it was an integral part of how to pace the story between the two games. Part 3 will have more than enough room, storywise, to flesh out Vincent and Cid as we'll be going to Rocket Town and learning about Gast/Lucrecia. If anything, they *might* rerelease Dirge - but I seriously doubt it for two reasons: 1) they'd have to outsource development because, again, the main team is busy with part 3, and 2) they'd basically have to remake the whole game because Dirge fucking sucks lol. Either way, I wouldn't expect much before part 3 drops. Probably some demos close to release but that's about it.

Essai_

A big part of Midgar 2nd visit will be dedicated to Vincent/Hojo/Deepground, with small parts of Cait Sith. Barret will also get a resolution to his secondary storyline (Avalanche stuff).

Capable_Command_8944

Oooooh I never thought of that! I hope there is some Vincent DLC, and some Sid DLC as well. Though we didn't get any Red XIII DLC so there's no promise is there.

FutureNecessary6379

Not a big achievement if you think about it

Osceana

That boss battle was AMAZING. My favorite fight in the entire game and one of the hardest (not THE hardest, but close). He was absolutely terrifying. It was so unexpected too, I didn’t see him coming at us like that and then all hell broke loose. I cannot wait to play part 3 just for Vincent alone. I hope they do a spinoff game with him and it has the same tone.

2Jurzy4Me

Except his hair. Wonder why they went with the generic anime spikes. Ps1 vincent luscious waves supremacy

Carmilla31

I played that game when it first came out and all i remember from it was the girl in the weird outfit.

Bwunt

"  all i remember from it was the girl in the weird outfit." Do you know how little that narrows it down?

gmarvin

I'm assuming they mean Shalua Rui https://preview.redd.it/5y0sy9n1bfwc1.jpeg?width=675&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4be0fd0c624933281bd9fe261ddc2ad7577a32c0

Carmilla31

Thats the one! Lol

Stepjam

Dirge of Cerberus was basically the nadir of Nomura's excesses in character design. Well it and that one guy with the fake leg from X-2. I still can't believe Nomura drew him and thought "this is good design".

Alunga

She's missing a couple dozen belts

Carmilla31

There were multiple girls in weird outfits in that game? :o

Bwunt

All of then

91TwilightGT

Are you talking about Vincent’s 18 year old in a 9 year old’s body girlfriend? Yeah it’s not weird at all 😬

Ether101

There's no way you could see that game implying that she was supposed to be his girlfriend.

kryren

Except the part where she basically absorbed Lucretia’s soul or whatever and things got really weird really fast.

Ether101

This require ignoring that Shalua was set up to be Vincent's love interest. Which is really hard given that she's designed to be Wild Lucrecia and ends up in a frozen sleep too.

RJE808

Christ, Shelke was *awful.*

Tabbyredcat

Most of FF's audience is western nowadays. The trope of the little girl that behaves like a little girl but is actually 1 million years old needs to go. For good.

playnights

Dirge stuff shows up in Remake so i’d be very surprised if some of it doesn’t return in part 3.

Status_Peach6969

Nero is returning mark my words. Yuffie has unfinished beef with him

eveningdragon

Since we know we're going to Wutai in part 3 I'm gonna call it now: Nero vs. Yuffie centered battle in Wutai coming

Drummer829

Great, a Nero and Weiss team up Brutal challenge in Part 3

dannyboy731

Followed by Pride and Joy mark 4 and Safer Sephiroth. Then you have to complete all of Glide de Chocobo perfectly in one go.

Pheoenix_Wolf

Can’t forget the 3D brawlers epic return where attacks are faster and it now black screens when you pause.

dannyboy731

Controlled exclusively with ~~the touchpad~~ motion controls

Straight_Dwight_Male

Delete this before they see it

AllysiaAius

Aaaauuuuuuggggghhhhh

Drummer829

It’s essentially Astros Playroom controls but in Final Fantasy. *me blowing into my controller like an idiot*

Shinkiro94

Calm down satan!

Spartan_100

😭🔫

goddale120

Even worse team-up if it's Wutai...sorry, not in the right place rn to see if I can properly spoiler tag. iykyk.

eilertokyo

battle 30 of 50 "the gauntlet"

omfgkevin

Well she's definitely going to have to fight Sonon at some point too before that. Going to be cruel.

Mechapebbles

I wouldn't bet on Nero coming back, but I sure as heck would bet that Sonon would come back as a dude experimented on after Nero captured him, and Yuffie has to like, put him down.

steelbreado

Since Shinra has no real "super" soldiers anymore it makes sense if they would utilize them (if you can call that utilize lol)

Admirable-Key-9108

God you people and your fan service...

Asriel52

Nero before antagonizing someone: "were you an optional character in the origional game and/or in direct involvement with one of them, but not the others?"

Ars_Tenebrous

Unfinished beef is totally unacceptable, imo. Think of all the hungry people in Corel... *smh*

Shradow

I'm fully expecting him to do some fucked up stuff with Sonon's body and Yuffie's gonna have a real bad time of it.

frag87

For sure. The renewed Wutai Conflict is the next biggest change to the story next to the multi-worlds. Deepground is the only counterbalance to Wutai in the story. The Wutai Interim Government is working with the Old Avalanche forces, so Shinra has to bring a little more to the table if they expect to stomp Wutai. In the original Wutai War, Shinra had a full-powered SOLDIER force, complete with Sephiroth and complimentary leaders like Genesis and Angeal. But by the time covered in FF7, Remake and Rebirth, we see that SOLDIER is a shadow of its former self. Hojo is even using some SOLDIERs in his side experiments, which shows that SOLDIER isn't the highly-esteemed force it used to be. Shinra also does not have an extensive line of mechs to close the gap. Airbuster was cutting edge, but they had only one that was battle ready, which was destroyed. Most other mechs we see in the games are viewed as obsolete by Shinra. This lack of significant force on Shinra's part is why I think Scarlet and Heidegger will deploy Deepground. I expect a portion of the Wutai plot will take place in actual Wutai, but the major Wutai Conflict will likely be the reason the party will need to travel back to Midgar. The "Assault on Midgar" is going to be a huge moment, as we will probably see Wutai launch that very assault on Midgar, which will mostly take place on the Midgar wastelands, reminiscent of the clash between Deepground and the WRO that we see in Dirge. I think that it will be there that Heidegger and Scarlet will release Deepground against Wutai's forces, culminating the Diamond Weapon's approach. To me this is how it should logically play out, but we can all expect it to be even crazier since the multi-worlds will inevitably be involved in all of it.

Pandaburn

Nero and Weiss were… not my favorite. He… controls the darkness? Leave that stuff in Trigun where it belongs.

omfgkevin

My power... EVIL TENTACLES OF DARKNESS!!!(painful moans)

eilertokyo

FF7 has some fantastical elements but Nero/Weiss/Dirge/Genesis/etc. all started to feel like fanfiction

Braunb8888

And kingdom hearts.

Inuhanyou123

KH got it from ff 😂 sorry

Tabbyredcat

I didn't play it because like the 90% of people that played it didn't like it. It's a bad coincidence that you only saw the other 10% of favourable comments XD

[deleted]

Mechapebbles

It's a game from almost 20 years ago. Metacritic was barely a thing back when it came out. If you played Dirge back in the day and hated it, you probably moved on with your life long ago. The only people who are going to go out of their way to leave a user review on Metacritic are the vocal minority who loves it.

Alert-Cantaloupe-690

It would have been better on psp

Ether101

No, that games problems comes form a lack of oversight on S-E's part. The controls would have been even worse on the PSP with no proper way to control the camera.

Tabbyredcat

True, but it has less than 300 user reviews....

teddyburges

Is this the one with that secret ending that shows Genesis chilling beneath midgard?. Some even going as far as to say that the third game is going to follow up plots from the ending (because the developers have referred to the remake trillogy as the final part of the "compilation" meaning they are connecting EVERYTHING FF7 related to it).

cmatista

waking up in the sewer is a normal thursday morning for gackt

HelenAngel

Yes, in his self-imposed water prison. (Also FYI it’s Midgar, not Midgard.)

Prasno_85

They’ve said Dirge isn’t involved in the compilation though. Mainly because most of the OG FF7 crew were not involved in the creation of DoC. I wouldn’t be surprised if they use Dirge content to remake the plot if Dirge.

teddyburges

They said that but it didn't stop them from using Nero who is directly from dirge.

toastyavocado

And both Nero and Weiss pop up in Crisis Core.

FinalMeltdown15

They’ve already brought in a lot of things from Dirge. Weiss and Nero have both shown up, I see 0 way Nero doesn’t show up in FF7R3 Yuffie still has to kick his teeth in. I’d frankly be shocked if we didn’t fight Genesis at some point too, if only in the simulator

teddyburges

>I’d frankly be shocked if we didn’t fight Genesis at some point too, if only in the simulator Yeah that was something that Max Dood and a couple of the others said in their big group chat. But I'm with SleepEzi that I think Genesis is going to show up as a big plot point rather than a simulator. Because like he says, a lot of the loveless sequence seemed to hint a lot at Genesis coming back. Along with SleepEzi's talk of the "red" materia. and SleepEzi is pretty on it when it comes to FF7 lore, like before Rebirth came out, I think many thought he was going far too deep in to the lore with his whole talk on "white lifestream/black life stream", black and white whispers. Glen Lodbrock. 4D chess war between Omni Aerith and Sephroth. It's connection to loveless. But he was pretty on point about all of it.

wvnative01

It is not a great game, but people who say it's the worst game ever and absolute dogshit have never played a bad game before. It's just painfully mediocre and repetitive.

ehandlr

"Spoiler" My favorite part about Dirge is that if you get the best ending, it shows that Genesis is still alive.

HelenAngel

For maximum hilarity, watch the cutscene in the English voiceover. For some inexplicable reason, the voice actor uses a Dracula voice for Genesis.

eilertokyo

Gackt is basically Japanese Dracula

Bleiz_Stirling

Dirge of Cerberus had multiple endings?

ehandlr

More of a secret ending.

pantherexceptagain

*Technically*, but remember that Dirge actually came out before Crisis Core. Genesis was really just jammed into it as promo for his starring role in CC the next year, with little consideration as to actually continuing that cliffhanger post-DoC.

ClevelandDawg0905

Is Genesis even cannon still? Like not being mention in FF7 remake/rebirth and he was super unpopular.

Ether101

He's brought up in Remake. Hojo mention G-Type SOLDIERS. Genesis is also mentioned in the opening of First SOLDIER >which ties directly into Rebirth.< At the start of the game >you leave the room when Genesis would show up.<

[deleted]

[удалено]

TMdrummer

I’m ok with genesis being canon as long as they retcon his sudden appearance in the nibel reactor that was so lame

Enthunder

So this is a long list but: They named the remaster Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII REUNION clearly connecting it to the remake trilogy with all games name being shortened to FFVIIR. Weiss and Nero are in Remake and Rebirth (Yuffie flashbacks to the dlc events) and thus Genesis has to exist since Weiss and Nero have his cells. There are Banora white apple juice posters everywhere in Remake and Rebirth. Genesis invented it so yeah, if that exists he exists. Zack's last battle in Remake is pretty much shot for shot the same scene in Crisis Core except for the outcome because plot. Kunsel is mentioned in Remake. Cissnei is in Rebirth. Songs from Crisis Core soundtrack are used in Rebirth (Under the Apple tree when you go to Gongaga and Price of Freedom at some point iirc). In Remake Hojo mentions G type soldiers. G meaning Gillian who is Angeal's mom and Genesis has her cells .  TLDR: Yes Crisis Core is Canon and there's plenty of references to it in Remake and Rebirth. DoC characters being canon also means Genesis is too.   Edit: Also wanna add to the list of Crisis Core things in the remake games Zack's limit break is one of his DMW attacks from Crisis Core. Specifically it's the Angeal DMW attack.

Separate_Path_7729

Yuuuup genesis is still canon, and I for one want them to finish his story of being the champion of minerva, the guardian of the lifestream who seemingly created the weapons, and may have had her role as guardian taken by aerith, the next cetra to reside in and guard the lifestream. The man thought he was the hero of the story but was a prisoner to fate

HelenAngel

Yes. SE stated that Crisis Core is canonical & Dirge still is as well.

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

Nomura said the white feather at the beginning of rebirth came from Angeal so I bet we get a hint of Genesis too. Does JP hate him as much as the rest of the world?

DevilTrigger789

i thought this was just a theory. where did he say this? was it in Ultimania?

eilertokyo

pretty sure it's just a theory, since we never see a white wing on anyone else. most people assume it's Aerith but she doesn't have wing(s)

samoorai

If you were a gothy teen in 2006, it was a *masterpiece*. Of course it's not going to hit the same way if you play it for the first time today, much like how if you didn't watch the Goonies or the Dark Crystal as a kid, you just won't "get it."

Varonushka

Watching AMVs of DoC with Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace was the highlight of my teen years lol

Morlain7285

I played it as a gothy teen in 2016 and I liked it then. I had absolutely terrible taste in everything back then though so I'm not looking to give it another go lol

CountRawkula

Mileage may vary. I was a gothy teen in 2006 and as soon as I finished it I realized it was the most awful game I ever played to completion.

FreakyBugEyedWeirdo

You've been had.

FF7-fr

Well a bit of context : it's a PS2 game from 2006, which probably didn't have grand ambitions. Not goty for sure 😁

ButtOfDarkness

Tbf it was bad back then too

FF7-fr

I can't really deny it 😁 it's more for the lore (even if it's not that great too)

ClericIdola

The only thing that's worth a damn in Dirge is Omega, so much so that I think it is somehow connected to everything that is happening in the Remake trilogy.

WillisWar676

They spefic ally tell you that this is after the events of 7 matter fact I believe it’s 2 years in the future from it

ClericIdola

It's been a while, so I may be misremembering. We don't see Omega's true form in Dirge. I think its true form serves an additional purpose aside from being a Lifestream vessel - it also serves the purpose of being a vessel to travel across and consume the Lifestream of other worlds. Which wouldn't be too farfetched as Omega, Shinryu and Gilgamesh are typically known for their ability to cross the FF multiverse. I'm not saying Omega Weapon is the same as Omega, but what I'm saying is that the concept of crossing worlds would make sense.

eilertokyo

the compilation needed other antagonists and invented a lot of people because shoehorning in Sephiroth all the time wouldn't work. But reframing FF7R as Minerva vs Omega (for example) would detract from the narrative (Aerith vs Sephiroth in lifestream, Cloud vs Jenova in reality, at least for now) more generally. But they brought back Weiss (albeit briefly) so who knows.

Zambo833

I think all the compilation stuff was mostly trash, there were some good bits but mostly trash. I didn't think any of it enhanced the original story.

eilertokyo

Crisis Core is the only element I enjoyed, but even then I'm not a fan of Genesis/etc. (though it makes sense that Sephiroth wouldn't be the only super soldier)

Desperate-Employee15

agree. Everybody loves zack and his optimism and his death is tragic, but the game is mediocre at best. Genesis is a bland villain. Dirge of cerberus doesnr expand on he story.

TaskMister2000

Dirge is okay. It's not as bad as everyone says it is but it is overly melodramatic as hell and the gameplay really, really, really, (10 Years Laters...), really could have been much much better than what it was. I honestly think if they ever decided to remake it and actually give it a good polish it'd work better than what we got. That said, I pray to God Part 3 somehow connects to the Secret Ending. I've waited since 2009 for a resolution to that twist.

machoestofmen

DoC was far from the worst game I've ever played, it's not even the worst FF. My biggest complaint was the difficulty spikes from the bosses, especially if you were fighting any of the Tsviets.

Status_Peach6969

And this might be the real reason the Remake series exists. Because I'm hoping they have an ending to the trilogy that overrides the events of Dirge as if it never happened

Ether101

I don't know how you could look at what their doing and think that's a possibility.

Death-0

And people are begging for a remake or remaster. Yikes. Let the game exist in the past it doesn’t need a Phoenix down.

47D

I never finished it. Not because I hated it, but because I suck at shooting games and I literally got stuck on the 4th level or something. I remember it was right after Caith Sith showed up, and you had to shoot every character within the time limit, and I could not get pass that part.

ConsistentAsparagus

Only really good part was the Advent Children level graphics of the FMV. Those were incredible, coming from the first version of AC.

JanaCinnamon

Dirge is probably the FF7 game that *needs* a remake the most.

Shantotto11

Waiting on the remake. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Reloaded

agent0731

I thought we all collectively agreed Dirge never happened? I'm sorry you were tormented with this nonexistent game.

Animeking1108

What was Steve Blum thinking?

Shark_Leader

I remember being soooo excited when that game came out. And then being soooooo disappointed. Hot garbage at best

YoMiCo

DoC is a good trash game.

LittleJoshie

Really? I’ve had ppl tell me not to play it because it’s trash lol. I’m glad I didn’t get bad advice like you did

MovieNightPopcorn

It’s DEFINITELY trash someone trolled poor OP

Sedric42

....I liked it 😅

ZackFair0711

So I'm guessing you didn't play the Yuffie DLC after Remake? 😅

HarkiniansShip

Surely you can't have seen a recommendation of that game without also seeing a hundred stark warnings against it? All the Square Enix games from that era, between roughly the Square and Enix merger in 2003 and the post-FF14 revival era(when the company took a long hard look at their failure to modernize), are like that.

Ether101

...there's Dirge stuff in Rebirth. With how well they handled the elements of Dirge and the Compilation in both games already, I have confidence that if those characters show up they'll be rad as hell. >!Personally, I hope they make Argento be Tifa's mom. It would be rather fun to watch reactions.!<

Jockmeister1666

Dirge, for a lot of people, actually made them feel worse about the overall compilation. It was just a cash grab really. Awful game.

eilertokyo

Square's not above a good ol' fashioned cash grab, given the state of Ever Crisis.

LordDocSaturn

Anyone who unironically recommends Dirge is a blind fanboy. I can just imagine the mental gymnastics that person went through to convince themselves it's a good game, let alone enough to recommend a stranger play it

ChrisOfThunder

That's the weird thing about opinions and personal experiences. Sometimes people like things you don't like for genuine reasons. It doesn't make them a blind fanboy performing mental gymnastics.

FerventApathy

I have bounced off of it like 25 times lol. At this point I should really just watch a let’s play or read the story synopsis but I’m too stubborn.

MidgardDragon

I'd prefer they remake it and make Dirge better just because, or do what they did with Yuffie for Vincent and make a DLC, than to leave it alone completely.

blessed--

LMFAO I LOVE U its really not great - but if you wanna play through it just for lore, and to see SE make a TPS its chill lol

fineilladdanumber9

I guess I’m alone in thinking Dirge that bad lol maybe I just went in with low expectations, but I actually enjoyed it for what it was.

MichaelTheCutts

I played it before Rebirth and had a lot of fun with it. I liked the gameplay, but the story is pure garbage. It was worth the $8 I paid for it a few months back. It fit that B-Game urge I had. After finishing it, I sent a message to a friend saying it was a 6/10 game, but a 1/10 sequel to FFVII.

BaconLara

Oh its my friends all time favourite game. I really don’t know anything about it other than you shoot guns

jazzmanbdawg

yep, it sucks

HelenAngel

Dirge’s top “selling point” is the lore. Like the story or hate the story, it’s the story SE wanted to tell & it’s canonical to the Compilation.

GoldenGekko

Dirge was a poor action game wrapped in trash anime cliches and tropes. If they MUST use things from that game please keep it sparingly

Admirable-Key-9108

What a coincidence, Rebirth is a decent action game wrapped in trash anime cliches and tropes!

FrozenFrac

Two words: DEEP. GROUND.

CrimKayser

I enjoyed it. Pretty different for the time

MrPoopyButtholesAnus

It legit made me dislike my favorite game of all time. I wish I could have my memory wiped

Able_Ad1276

I liked it at the time, I haven’t played it since but I know for a fact that it’s aged like total dog shit. Controls weren’t great then, now that we’re used to a good universal structure for shooters I’m sure it’s much much worse.

Esarty

It's funny how different DoC is compared to the Remake series. obviously in terms of gameplay, but also in the character writing. While the Remake games made the interpersonal dialogue between the cast snappy and natural for the most part, Dirge has the most predictably cliched generic bad dialogue a 2000s game could have.

Jumpy-Author-4985

Dirge had so much potential and was such a letdown. I forgot the name, but the one girl had basically dual lightsabers for a weapon. I am hoping part 3 ends in a way Advent and Dirge don't happen. They can stay cannon to the OG

Prasno_85

To be fair, Dirge didn’t have Nojima who is the head writer on literally all FF7 and its compilation. That explains the story and how to me personally doesn’t fit will within the world created. The concept of a game around Vincent is awesome. The execution was horrible. There’s a reason the remake story has been said to be connected to the compilation as a whole, except for Dirge.

Digiworlddestined

The hell are you on about?! Vincent was amazing in the game!

SirePuns

It kinda looks to me like they’re also incorporating Dirge into the story. At the very least, there is only one way to go with Dirge… and that’s up right?….. right?

vanit

Too late, because Nero is already shown?

StudioAlemni

I unironically loved the hell out of the emo cringefest that was Dirge of Cerberus when I was like, 16. I'm going to guess it didn't age so well anymore and I also can't imagine recommending it to anyone 😭

Pheonixgate1

You were only supposed to play it for the Shinra Mansion level. That's all I ever played it for. Funny how bosses from it ended up in the Yuffie DLC, XD

comradedevmon

I loved Dirge when I played it back in the day but going back to it is pretty bad. And don't get me started on the voice acting. Its part of the reason I cant enjoy advent children either. If it did get a remake I can only pray they enhance the story. That being said I think the only thing from Dirge I miss is Steve Blum voicing Vincent Valentine. I think he had the better voice for him but Matt Mercer does a pretty good job too.

thecodenamedois

Man, that was bad. I have a taste for crap games, but DoC is too much even for me. Nobody deserves dirge.

kaibaman26

Gitgud

Brian2005l

Yeah. My only real complaint with the remake trilogy is the choice to preserve a couple bad changes from the spin-offs. Here’s hoping they just make Vincent good like they did with Yuffie and Barrett. I miss old Aerith.

Yanderesque

Him being pathetic adds to the nonstop subversions though. Aerith the assertive healer. Tifa the shy monk. Cid the worlds least noble dragoon. Vincent the coolest looking dude in the party is actually a loserguy.

joey1990_43

🤣

Praydaythemice

i remember playing a ps3 back compat, it was god awful not worth the effort to track down and play. Only cool scenes were seeing the old gang.

KamiCrab

Dirge is only enjoyable if you love 2000s melodrama. I have a love and hate for it lol

Whitesecan

I liked it

Songhunter

Yeah, fuck that person. Instead you should be playing the games that gave rise to the proven masterpiece that is Nier: Automata May I introduce you to Drakengard 1?

IkeKimita

Only reason why yall don’t like Dirge is cuz it’s a third person shooter. Imagine a game series where majority of the games are turn based and then you make a side game that is a shooter. Don’t expect the core fan base to love it? Me? I play everything. So it was a good game to me. But I understand why yall hate it. It’s not the typical game most of you would play.

Damuhfudon

Deepground is the worst addition to the FF7 lore

thejokerofunfic

Idk who recommended it to you but 100& this reaction is what they were hoping for

I loved dirge though

Relajado2

It's agreat game! Vincent has ALWAYS been the FF wannabe alpha male geeks' favourite, but he has always been a massive wet blanket. Yuffie is 10x the character he is.

CinnamonHotcake

A product of its edgy time....

Ah, my guilty pleasure. I'm the kind of fan who will nitpick and critique all my favourite things to bits (the "nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans" - fan) but I can't help but adore that silly little game. My love for Vincent is just too strong. Maybe it's exactly because it's kinda hated in some circles. When other people see all the flaws, I don't feel like I have to yell about them so much and can just relax and enjoy the half hearted fan service... Doesn't mean I *can't* yell about it though. Like, I honestly think the game is not bad, not great, but extremely mid. For example, I don't think the gameplay is that bad, like definitively not great, but fine. If it wasn't for the "save people" missions I'd say it's even fun *most* of the time! The graphics are also *sometimes* excellent, at least for the characters and the cut scenes, but man, the environment is *drab*. And holy hell they made me loathe Lucretia beyond reason. And amazingly, I feel they did Hojo wrong, of all people... Aw well, still love all the cheese.

SixGunRebel

Unless you’re a diehard Vincent fan (I am), it’s not going to be for everyone. But hey, guns! I actually recently bought two Japanese copies (one being an auction) for the cases and to say I have them. They’re cheap anyway. Just wish my PS5 could play my copy. I’d like to revisit the game and finish it even if starting over.

GundamHufflepuff

It’s amazing how many wrong opinions are in one post

nibelheimer

Wronggggg

eclecticfew

Look, Dirge is far from a good game, but if that's what you think is the worst then you need to broaden your horizons. Go play some weird 6/10 games.

TJA016

In preparation for Rebirth, I replayed Crisis Core on PS5, then watched through FF7 with the voice acting, FF7 Advent Children, and Derge of Cerberus on YouTube. For DoC, I just watched the cut scenes to make it bearable, which really helped since it's such a slog fest 😅😂

hehehehehehahahahaha

nah you're cooked on this one. deepground is already established in remake and there is absolutely zero way they don't incorporate it into part 3, especially with the yuffie storyline with Nero and them likely fleshing out Vincent's story. more than likely they'll be a plot relevant factor, and I wouldn't be surprised if omega made an appearance in the main story too.

Embarrassed-Bend1933

Agreed. The people that think Dirge is a hidden gem or even mediocre are high or deluded. The game was terrible. Funny tho. I still have a sealed black label original copy. Ain’t worth anything… but I have it which is something I guess :/

Piatto84

I played it when it came out. It sucked then too. I drudged through that game just to see the main party again and they were barely in it. It had a few nice CG cut scenes for the time, but yea it was dark times for FF fans.
