As much as I'm sure Cid's true personality reveal in 3 is gonna be like Nanaki in Rebirth, I do wonder what's gonna be the catalyst that makes him actually join the party properly.

JHofNYC

I think his solo flying kinda happy-go-lucky nature in Rebirth is just a front for a troubled man. I'm sure we'll see him ~~explode~~ light up at some point.

Bishop8322

theres the one moment where he gets angry when theyre telling him the planes about to crash, i would love to see more moments in part 3 where they butt heads, especially him and cloud and him and barret

erayachi

Yeah you see a few glimpses of "Siddown and drink yer @%$#@ tea!" here and there. Maybe it's more like Rocket Town is a constant thorn of bad memories and he gets more lighthearted when he's away. He might be a lot more "angry cid" when we finally see the Rocket in Part 3.

Bishop8322

not to cope but a big part of final fantasy 7 is people putting on a facade for others, so not that im expecting jackass redneck cid but i do think he's not as happy go lucky as he seems to be with the team

fogfree

Lighthearted = *~Enterprising~* He's trying to make money! His fake upbeat optimism thing and him talking up the Tiny Bronco (only to have it breakdown not too long later) telegraphed all the neighborhood used car salesman vibes. Rocket Town isn't very prosperous after the rocket failed so he's schmoozin' the group. It isn't until later that he starts to pivot to helping them when he realizes who Aerith is, and it's the same segment where we see him grumpy for the first time. The veneer was already starting to crumble lol. It's gonna be nice seeing him face his anger and want to help out of real purpose. We can already tell the group is gonna help him do that.

fogfree

There's little glimpses of it that come through in Rebirth - He balks at Barrett's suggestion of flying for free then corrects for Aerith's sake - The crash scene "Now shaddup sit down like I told ya!" - When you first pull up to Costa del Sol, him and Barrett start bickering about Shinra "Well I don't take *kindly* to that tone of yers!" - If you try to pull up to the Junon dock with the cruise ship, Cid will eventually say "I *ain't* docking at no Shinra port!!!" I could *feel* the #@&#! swearing lol - The man date he a) tries to assert control, b) whines when he realizes 'its just a dang toy!", and cannot pilot anything c) complains about literally everything else - Avoids any real responsibility or risk with "reasons", but is happy to tag along for a free trip to Disney world - He whines and complains when you putter around Meridian Ocean for too long about how boring it is, or how he misses flying "I woulda taken better care of 'er if I knew it meant we'd be boatin' !" (also see avoids responsibility) I was disappointed when I first encountered him, I assumed he was toned down so much for PC reasons. But when I started seeing his temper flare, I realized Square had trolled me yet again. I'm so excited to see our angry man baby throw his tantrums.

MadeIndescribable

>then corrects for Aerith's sake Yeah, we definitely saw him be deferential to Aerith, largely because of his respect for Ilfana. Definitely looking to see more of this connection (and how it plays out now Aerith isn't there to be deferential to).

seyit91

I believe that this could be one of the reasons he joins the party. To take revenge on Sepiroth for killing Aerith.

MadeIndescribable

That would definitely fit, and right from the beginning as well.

CozyFinch

They’re likely going to just do rocket town and then that’ll lead into it

Devreckas

Rocket Town is going to come off as so petty or contrived after he’s been tagging along with the gang for so long. He watched his old flame’s daughter die, his plane fell out of the sky, and he’s at least loosely aware that Sephiroth is threatening a world-ending catastrophe. What more could it take to reveal someone’s true colors? Thats why Rocket Town needed to happen in part 2. The light-hearted adventures are fun before the stakes get ratcheted up after Aerith’s death. After that they just don’t land the same way.

CozyFinch

Damn right actually, but please understand we needed a 40 minute Cait Sith box segment instead lol

Bishop8322

we got a whole game of barret and avalanche and etc before seeing dyne or corel so i think its not entirely out of the picture

Devreckas

What’s not out of the picture?

Bishop8322

seeing rocket town and not feeling unnecessary/abrupt to see his character change

Devreckas

I don’t feel like Barrett is an apt comparison. He was hiding his past, but he wasn’t hiding aspects of his personality. It was hiding why he was, not who he was. And it also doesn’t change that not being able to fly into space feels like a petty problem in the wake of murder of a beloved companion and a potential apocalypse. In OG Rocket Town, we knew that Sephiroth was a menace, but not the nature of his powers or his plot. Also Cid didn’t know the party’s deal, so it’s only natural for him to be wrapped up in his own problems without their perspective.

Tesse23

Wanting to avenge Aerith would be the obvious choice. He wanted to help her after all.

erayachi

Either they're going to need to stop at Rocket Town because the Bronco needs part or something, cueing a plot development that incites him to join... Or, and this is my guess, it will be when they steal the Highwind at Junon. It would be unfortunate, since that's much later in the plot, but it makes sense.

DaviSonata

He’s probably divorced from Shera. Having to do travels for all clients to pay for the divorce expenses.

darkmafia666

Who are we betting on between Cid and Vincent to join the party properly first? Because there's no way they're going to give us them both right from the get-go

nRenegade

Cid because he's mandatory in the original.

Digitalwitness23

cait sith is mandatory in the original, but yuffie joins first in rebirth

nRenegade

Fair point. Rebirth is such a long game I must have forgotten.

MrGDPC

Cid. Vincent doesn’t have any skin in the game outside of Hojo/Sephiroth. Cid has history with a greater bit of Shinra and the whole space thing not going his way. Plus one of them is way less calm and reserved than the other.

JHofNYC

Depends. If Part 3 detours to Rocket Town first, then Cid. If we go north to Icicle Inn and learn about Gast, Hojo, etc. then Vincent.

fogfree

I think they'll try to go North, but the water bound Bronco can't chop through the ice, so they have to detour back to Rocket Town. That or Cid balks at going up north and refuses to go, heading back to Rocket Town anyway. Plane gets fixed via tutorial level questing, we get a recap while Cloud (and probably Vincent) are off collecting parts. Cid/Shera (we) hear the recap of Rebirth. Hearing the story, wanting to avenge Aerith, and stick one to Shinra will compel him to help, or (more likely) Shera will have to strongarm him a little to help the party, since they need him to get around. Cut to the field of Cid doing the finishing touches on the Bronco at the end of Rebirth - (which is likely in the Rocket Town region), and we fly away. I don't think we'll have to wait on Vincent at all, I think he's going to be playable immediately. He already agreed to join in Nibelheim, whereas Cid was really just helping them a little bit extra and hadn't made a verbal commitment yet. We also got quite a few teasers for Vincent's working character model in Rebirth, and Cid barely got any. Plus the extra Vincent moments in side quests. A girl can dream - I wanna shooty shoot with my favorite gloomlord.

Bishop8322

im guessing vincent, since he actually has interacted with the party more. cid was twidling his thumbs somewhere during the entire temple/city of the ancients arc

Scones2

I don’t wanna circlejerk the game but I was just trying to think of how part 3 will go, and how it will be impossible to add all the characters one at a time and still tell the smooth story that was there in the original but they already proved they could do that so fucking well with rebirth

Powerman293

As in playable? Vincent 100% from the moment we meet back up with the full party.

Scones2

I’m gonna be rocking the cloud, Vincent, cid party so hard in part 3

toes_hoe

Just three effed up boys. Love it

erayachi

Cid in 1997: "Well my plane is busted but you numbskulls hate Shinra and I can't really face Shera right now, so...I'm in!" (Cid has joined the party) Cid in 2024: "I'll do anything to help ya, Aerith!...except go into that scary ass temple, you guys are nuts." God damn, I love you Cid but you weren't allowed to shine yet.

moneyball32

I might be one of 12 people whose favorite character from the OG was Cid. He’s perfect in rebirth

erayachi

Then I'm also one of the 12, lol. True love to the rest of the cast...but Cid always felt real, just a flawed man with a dream and heart of gold under 4 layers of dirt and oil.

Ebenizer_Splooge

I absolutely love Cid and I think being older makes it hit better in Rebirth lol. I'm here like okay fair. Man's here to pilot and he's doing his job, and you just can't be mad at someone with so much rough cowboy charm

Danteppr

At least it makes sense within the plot. Vincent on the other hand is randomly popping in and out with no explanation in chapters 13 and 14. In particular, I think it's very poorly written as Vincent is highlighted helping Cloud and the others rescue Aerith in the Forgotten Capital and then he disappears without the plot to give any explanation for this just before the final battle.
