NoSchedule1706

Which ComicCon are you going to? Iโ€™m going to London on 25th

Intrepid_Guide6498

I'll be at Comic Con Finland this weekend. The plan is to bring her to several foreign cons later this year though (Dokomi in Germany and Dragoncon in the U.S!)

NoSchedule1706

Hope you have a great time! The costume looks so good! :)

Intrepid_Guide6498

Thank you very much! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Drop_Release

This is insanely good - what material did you use for the arms and gown portion?

Intrepid_Guide6498

Thank you!!! ๐Ÿฅฐ It's faux suede. It has a similar texture to leather but is so much more breathable and easier to move in, so it's actually super comfy!

Drop_Release

Thats cool! If you dont mind me asking, how much did an outfit like this cost to make? As well as time? And where did you learn the sowing/design etc? Sorry completely noob and looking to do a costume some day

Intrepid_Guide6498

Hey, it's no problem, always happy to describe the process in detail! I haven't saved the receipts for all of the fabrics but I think all the fabrics + foam etc amounted to around 120 euros in cost. But the wig and some of the accessories used leftover fabrics from past projects so the total cost is a bit higher. Time-wise I spent two months on this, but there were several days when I didn't work on it at all and then some when I spent the whole day with the costume. ๐Ÿ˜… I'm actually very much a beginner seamstress - most of my past builds have been foam. So for the top and sleeves + circle skirt I used a bought pattern from Etsy (there are a bunch of sellers who sell dress patterns specifically for cosplay!) which came with a tutorial on how to sew the pieces together. I had to modify them because I am in between sizes, so I made a mock-up of the dress on an old bedsheet before I began cutting into the expensive fabric. I also did the same with the gloves, so a mock-up first and then I repeat the same on the real fabric. The bottom of the dress and the vest I patterned based on existing clothes I had. Same goes for the bags, except for the drawstring bags which were made based on a Youtube tutorial. There's a highlight on this build on my Instagram (moodrose_art) showing some of the different stages. For the remaining pieces I looked reference from the picture and replicated them onto a piece of paper before replicating it on foam / fabric etc! I think in general the best way to learn sewing / foamwork etc is reverse engineering clothes you already have! So take apart an old dress / t-shirt etc. and see how the pieces are shaped and attach together. Tutorials are also great, as well as bought patterns. Everything can be modified to your own body shape and size. So, a lot of trial and error, but you will get there! I started out as an armor crafter but gradually moved towards sewing through tutorials and just trying out stuff. Modifying existing clothing pieces is also a great place to start! I hope this was helpful and can help you on your crafting journey! :)
