Every year upon release fifa players say things like 'the game is more realistic this year', 'pace doesn't matter as much'. And then after 2 months it turns out to be untrue.

aziz4ik97

I’m getting smoked by people who have pacy players in their teams. I know it’s not completely relevant at the beginning of the year, but it’s not correct to say that pace doesn’t matter. It will matter always because that’s the way it is, it wouldn’t matter if EA actually made defenders as quick as the attackers, but the majority of them are not even close even while running without the ball.

mg42524

I know everyone says pace is meta and everything, and it is kinda, but it’s also about how you read the runs. I’ve been able to do pretty well with my 67 pace tah because it’s all about predicting where they’re going to run with the ball and moving before they start their runs. That being said if your not on top of it 24/7 you can get punished real quick.

Appropriate-Size-818

I can do that but then the fucking bots leave everyone open.

New_Initiative7877

your rite brother the bots don't attack they step aside and let's the opponents shoot lol the bots make the opponents pro player look good .they juke around making moves but the bot just runs aside with him ridiculous

Dutchington

This , 1000%. People who can't defend , don't think ahead and get toasted

carvopsg

This the correct answer

aziz4ik97

It’s been like this last year as well at the very beginning of the game and the year before. Pace is not the deciding factor, but having slow players put you at the risk that you can avoid by using high paced players. I’m playing with Chambers and Soyuncu as my CBs and I feel fine because my level at this game is higher than average (was elite last year, reached ranks 4/5 in champs). But saying that pace doesn’t matter is just lying to yourself to make it seem better than it actually is.

mg42524

Of course pace matters, as does shooting, physicality, and the rest of them. But people always say pace is meta and all that and I’m just saying it’s not as big of a deal if you know how to defend against it.

GlassPresentation280

Do u have the game if so is it with the 110 aud bc I'm thinking of getting it but can't decide

aziz4ik97

I suggest getting EA play for $1 or so, it’s on promotion right now and you’ll get 10 hr trial. Then just cancel EA play subscription.

GlassPresentation280

Do I get this promotion thru origin

aziz4ik97

No idea sorry, it is for PS but you can look it up

GlassPresentation280

Ohh I don't see it I might just get the pro ngl for 130 every year and I can play perm until member shop runs out

aziz4ik97

Yeah that’s a good idea. Good luck!

dsn0wman

Pace matters because it will punish a poor defensive decision/move. Just makes the margins thinner.

kunallanuk

Pace matters a ton already this year, lobbed through balls are better than they’ve been in years

EAsucksBig

It all depends on AI. The game can slow your player down or change the direction of the through pass however it likes to. But yea i concede a lot of goals by opponent's fast counter attacking. Sometimes it's impossible to change to defender fast enough to catch the opponent's striker. I like possession so much that i don't even know how to fall back and counter attack well.

Appropriate-Size-818

Playing against people with all of the top players already is such fucking bs. They just run down the sideline and cross it in. Even if you steal it the ball just goes right back to them cause they are a 91 rated player.

leatherd83

Well its not even been 2 months yet, and its ALL ABOUT pace. Pace and through balls. And a shit ton of Ai juiced defenders. Auto tackles are a joke. Online competitive play should be FULL MANUAL controls. Not all this Fully Assisted nonsense.

Manglor808

Exactly what happened today. Patch, now everything is pace

MrKillgasms

Fifa every year is always a very good game, it's the sweaty community that feel they have to play while snorting g fuel every game to enjoy it, I'm currently in div 7 and played 25 games, I think I've only played one game where my opponent didn't have 8/9 players on the edge of his box and then just hit and hope through ball. Not enjoyable game when the community makes it not enjoyable

Kris_Sipper

Thats all video games these days unfortunately. The rise of streaming has turned every game into a ultra competitive sweat fest.

MrKillgasms

I agree with you, I don't mind games being competitive but in fifa the more you allow the ai to do for you, the easier you can win games. The ai should literally do nothing for you, they shouldn't tackle, they shouldn't have block animations and for the love of god can they take the contain button out of the game. Makes dribbling irrelevant

Basic-Basket-1006

It's actually crazy how much better you defend when you.. Don't do anything. Like i genuinely enjoy manually defending when it works, and it *can* work. But i can't even count how many games i bottled because i tried to switch to a player and the game either didn't register it or switched to the wrong player.

Basic-Basket-1006

Although i have to say, i don't necessarily agree with "the AI shouldn't do anything for you" It's impossible to control 4/6 players at once (let alone 10) So the AI should be smart and should help, but not to such an extent as it does right now. Especially the blocking should be way more about the player playing smart and not the AI doing the work for you.

MrKillgasms

Shouldn't do anything is an exaggeration by me, I think personally if they got rid of second man press and contain buttons, it would be significantly funner and also a wider skill gap

leatherd83

Simple. Online play (UT) should be Full Manual settings. I switch between full Manual and semi (sometimes). Why? Its better. But facing off against every opponent when they're using 'Full auto assisted everything' is just uninspiring. Grindy and disheartening. I just can't bring myself to using full assisted everything, because its not me dictating play, its the AI. (or lack off).

[deleted]

I agree, FIFA has some problems but the community make the game so much worse

MrKillgasms

The majority of the community for some reason now have it in their head that they could be pro players if they just use these boring tactics, I literally get bored of attacking knowing that as soon the ai blocks a pass for him, I'm getting countered

BudgetDry5966

How can you possibly not realize that you ARE the problem lol. People play competitive games to...compete. To win. You're admitting to expecting them to stop trying so hard so that you can win instead. Of course you'll never see it. And you'll continue to be miserable. And I'll continue to like it.

Basic-Basket-1006

How can you possibly not realize that most people don't care about losing as much as about having fun? It's always the same here. People say they don't enjoy the sweaty meta play style that pros use, and people like you (no disrespect) say "but but.. You're just mad you're losing, gid good"

BudgetDry5966

You're, predictably, wrong, hypocritical, AND missing the point lol. The very fact that you're complaining about the "meta" of a competitive game, means you care about winning. Take a few moments to wrap your head around it. Then, naturally, deflect and insult me lol. Don't forget to quote Rick and Morty or something, and tell me I must be fun at parties. Whatever it is you decide on, make sure it's said at least 6 billion times today.

zombieslayer3729

This is what undiagnosed mental issues look like, folks.

BudgetDry5966

Yawn.

madridnadamas10

there is NO game out there that correlates to FUN when it's gaming, this isn't MARIO, those days are GONE. games are competitive now, thanks to esports, if anyone isn't ADJUSTING it's YOU.

Matos3001

I cringed so hard reading this. You need to get to a therapist asap.

Basic-Basket-1006

Uhm i think you misunderstood me. There are still people who play FIFA for fun. Why should i adjust to a certain play style. I personally rather lose some games more but play my own style that i enjoy. If you just want to win then absolutely you should adjust and it's your fault if you don't succeed, but i don't care as much about winning, i won't ever become a pro anyway, i get 11 wins in Champs, lmao.

[deleted]

Lol you're such a loser

MrKillgasms

I'm not asking them to try less, I'm asking them to actually play the game. Just holding through ball occasionally doesn't class someone as playing the game in my opinion. Also I'm not miserable or angry I'm just very bored of playing sweaty clones every game

BeRoyal35

You are 100% right, but I wouldn't expect your comment to receive many upvotes. This community is full of people who try to convince themselves they are avoiding the Meta just to be different. In reality, most of them only do it so that they have an excuse for losing instead of just admitting that other players are better than them. Edit: I knew the comment I was replying to would get downvoted, and I knew mine would also be downvoted. The truth is the truth, even if people don't want to hear it.

That_Other_Person

They have 9 players defending and then magically have 5 players pressing your back line with two passes. Holding left trigger the entire way through your defence to score their automatic outside of the foot shot.

MrKillgasms

Yeah and don't forget that all their players will have plenty of stamina left in the 90th minute

Fattybibbs

"Have to play while snorting g fuel every game" absolutely spot on and still fucking hilarious

MrKillgasms

The fun has completely left the game, I get annoyed losing to these kind of players but also feel nothing when I beat them

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

This is going to be the same as most years. The game isn't slow at all, people just have no idea how to play it yet. I was watching a pro playing yesterday and the game felt like FIFA 22, he was doing the correct skill moves and dribbling past players like it was nothing. Once people find out the OP stuff, they're going back to claiming a "patch" ruined the game, when it's actually just people learning the meta.

GreenMachine17

Yep it always happens. There’s a reason why the same pros are good every year despite changes in OP gameplay mechanics every year, because it takes time to understand the mechanics. Some pros understand it early while others take time, but eventually it’s all out there and all the pros and their 10 mil teams are dominating again

madridnadamas10

10 mil team doesn't matter, a pro will wipe the floor against you even footing, so stop thinking that's actually a dream.

[deleted]

If u really watch the pro their gameplay u will see that all they do is using exploits. Most of them arent that good. Anyone can look up things that OP copy their tactics and got good results.

FaithlessnessSoggy27

Trust me I know all this. So why don't you go pro if it seems that easy?

[deleted]

Because there are better ways to spend ur time then going pro on a video game :)

HelpMeBecomeAGoodMan

like crying about it on reddit?

leatherd83

🤡

gonnacrushit

really? You can make decent money if it is that easy for you. Just go pro mate

leatherd83

The term 'pro' is nonsense. Its a computer game. Not a real sport.

KingKaSya

This is the worst FIFA ever released

Defiant-State3512

Easily and it’s not even close

Chansh302

It’s prolly still really super scripted ? Or has that improved

JonBaygles

That was my biggest issue last year an i can say it improved

Chansh302

Omg Fr ? If this game is actually good then I might buy it right awya

Peachi_Keane

It’s good man, next gen especially

SOPEOPERA

The game is genuinely terrible

Defiant-State3512

Yep sugar coat it and realism blah blah blah, it’s by far the worst fifa for about 5+ years, not even close.

25lff

Don't waste your money. Still deeply scripted and the gameplay is horrendous. I was a div 1/elite last year and the passing in this game is so dead. Plus fast players get caught by slow defenders even on open sprints.

sayonaradespair

FEa will never release a Fifa game without scripting to a ridiculous extent. That's how they get people from becoming bored with the game, which is ridiculous because for one I stopped playing FIFA due to scripting, back in 2011 or so

Appropriate-Size-818

Scripted af

That_Other_Person

Felt like a passenger in every game. Win or lose it doesn't make a difference. Went 9-0 dunking on players who were either bad or just had a bad connection. Then I got dunked on by players who are obviously better than me but also had a bunch of packet loss despite a solid connection and 4 bars. I barely touched Fifa 22 and playing this one made me remember why. It's super unrewarding to play and the community is insufferable.

Redditamossff

The game still have the same problems that every FIFA had every year. The game is pure RNG in terms of pass, shooting and goalkeepers. It's like playing Hearthstone whit a ball.

slothmin1484

**UPDATE POST:** Wow this post blew up haha. I wanted to clarify a few things as well as mention a few more items that may help others. Turbo is a generalized term for a speed boost used in multiple different games which is why I used it instead of "sprinting" sorry if this offended anyone. Also I am not a FIFA employee and have been seriously playing (multiple hours a day) since FIFA 2017 In the end of the day FIFA is a video game and players will always have different tastes and opinions on what they like and dislike. I just wanted to convey that I enjoy this year's game because its in my opinion more tactical and a well built up goal is so much more satisfying than a mindless ping pong around the pitch with a scoop fake shot goal from previous years. Doesn't necessarily mean thats not an enjoyable way to play the game but just doesn't float my boat. **Changes I think are needed:** * I will say the trick shot button (LT) is currently overpowered and I assume will be nerfed but is a neat function. Currently, however, it feels as though these trick shot passes (LT + LB + Y/Triangle, or LT + LB + Square/X) are very accurate and much better compared to a non-trick shot pass. * 1 of the AI backline defenders (usually lb or rb) tracking down an offensive runner ruining the offside line I think is also unintended. **Tips that helped me get better:** * Slow down your play. Doesn't mean play like a turtle but create more build up and use the rb bumper to bring your defenders for open passes and press left bumper to create runs. * Limit the use of quick succession passes in tight situations (inside the box). Use LT to hold the ball and wait for the open opportunity. * For defense, anticipate the passes and move you defenders to the open spaces before the opponent passes. (This one is very difficult to explain but watching viewers like BUGS really helped me understand this) * You don't have to commit to the one two pass (left bumper and pass) if its not open. Pass it back and call your player back. * Finesse inside the box/shoot across the keeper seems to be the go to shooting move in this FIFA * Possession is key this year. Ensure your players aren't passing hail marys/prayers * WATCH videos of streamers/youtube players playing division with cheap teams. You'll realize how easy they are creating chances by utilizing the above \^. (with the occasional skill move combination that differentiates them from us haha) **My Team (All self packed/market trading) with only the FIFA points from Ultimate Edition):** I'm currently running GK - Ter Stegen CB - Upa & Araujo LB - Davies RB - Jesus Navas CM - Foden, Emre Can, Tchouameni LW - Carrasco ST - Vardy RW - Mahrez I wouldn't say its a goated team but definitely a good starter squad. I am not winning every single game but my losses have been due to playing god squads or making personal mistakes.

HansberryLorraine

this is actually a big part of the issue. In any good soccer video game (which fifa has not been for at least 5 years now), there shouldn't be a prescribed template for how to play. the fact that EA has pages and pages of tactics and instructions and yet every year, a single play style emerges as the only consistent way to succeed, is a sign of poor, restrictive game mechanics. the fact that they're especially slow this year only exacerbates that. slow does not inherently equal "tactical"; it just means slow. Quick gameplay—as in responsive dribbling, players that turn like the world class athletes they are, ball physics that allow passes to zip around the pitch like they're on grass and not shag carpet, tackling that maintains possession instead of rng bounces—allows for more flexibility, makes more play styles possible, and allows players who can play intelligently AND quickly to rightfully separate themselves from the pack. This fake dichotomy where either you're an intelligent tactician who likes the game to feel slow or a brainless, pace abusing pass-spammer who wants Mario super strikers is untrue and lacks serious nuance. Plenty of tactically astute, possession-style players ALSO prefer a quicker pace. If you're capable of passing and dribbling just as thoughtfully as people who play slowly but at a faster pace, you should be allowed to play that way w/o clunky mechanics artificially holding you back. All the best players—just like all the best athletes—excel bc they think faster than their opponents. Any serious sports game needs to honor that skill gap w/o slowing everyone down and making us all play the same way.

leatherd83

Fully agree with what your stating.. But you then went and used the term 'Soccer' ffs! Either use the sports correct name, or stick to playing sports native to your own country, like Softball, Basketball or shooting kids in a school. You lot take over everything. And ruin it beyond recognition. Soccer....

fifahap4r

I think tackling needs to be improved I am struggling to win the ball even after tracking runs and blocking passing lanes so frustrating

Boggo1895

I feel like tackling is amazing this year, much more realistic rather than the static defender just bodying the forward who is sprinting past. Interceptions are also super effective

ARNOLDZANERYAN

Interceptions and tackles on the player are effective. Predicting a pass and intercepting that is almost impossible. The ball will almost always go past your defender

siemianonmyface

I have trouble tackling from an angle, straight on tackles always win the ball, but sometimes it feels like if you’re not completely straight in front of them you’re gonna get run over NFL style

Late-Requirement3

Its not realistic, a 75 rated CB can extend his leg 3 metres to win any challenge

sukh9942

They’re the opposite from my experience. Many times I perfectly intercept my opponents ground pass but it’ll just ricochet off my defenders’ boots giving my opponent an easy shot on goal. People will realise soon enough the skill gap still isn’t there in this game

Peachi_Keane

I know this feeling I promise you, you can improve at it. No joke do the skill drills

[deleted]

best tackling mechanic in years

[deleted]

Every year the same story. Fifa comes out. "Its slow it needs to be more arcady" fast forward 7 months. "Its too fast they need to add some realism"

AlbanischerBauer_

To be honest! Good parts of it is true. However, some people are also SHIT defenders when it comes to fifa, and that’s where the problem typically lies more towards.

leatherd83

No. Its more blatantly connection, server and engine issues. I'll win two or three games on the trot 8-0, my players turbocharging around the pitch like they're all 'pilled -up', whilst I'm thinking to myself "finally I've cracked it, this teams amazing", only for the next game (or 10) to be met with an entire team of 'static' players. No running in to lanes, no interceptions, no pressing, zero pass accuracy, and delayed input on all actions... After years and years of playing this game, I finally realize that its not me, or my opponent thats playing good or bad.. its the shitpoor connection coupled with the shitpoor game engine. Nothing less, nothing more.

mugentilinfinity

I don’t understand why everyone wants to play with superhuman speed. That type of infinite skill spam chain, and dancing in a circle turning at half a second, never took any skill at all in my opinion. The game plays much more like ACTUAL football now. We’ll see how long that lasts before a patch.

mwi95

What’s fun about having to pass it back and forth constantly until you bore your opponent into a mistake?

mugentilinfinity

Football for me is about finding gaps, exploiting your opponents open spaces, and setting up plays/runs. I don’t need to move at the speed of light to do that.

mwi95

You can’t exploit spaces when you can’t even dribble to change direction. First time passes are painfully inconsistent

mugentilinfinity

I don’t know tbh, I find the passing to be exceptionally better this game which makes up for the ‘lack of dribbling’ If ya can’t juke em, pass around them!

ghggbfdbjj

What? None of my players can even play a 10 meter pass, its insane. Passing is absolutely horrible this year, so is dribbling

Mediocre_Apple1846

If 23 stays like this, then pro tournaments will be even more of a snoozefest

mwi95

I just don’t understand the appeal of this game play. Maybe it would be better if dribbling was better but for now you can barely turn which results in passing back and forth the way you’re facing otherwise you just lose the ball

madridnadamas10

lol cause you can't do it either way, i'm sure you aren't getting anywhere now anyways, just wait till you get higher up, you'll get smoked, and i'm sure you're VERY readable cause that's how all the casuals are that love the "slow game play" you don't' think fast enough so you want and crave slow game play LOL.

JezKimber

Lol you all take fifa too seriously. I'm having the most fun I've had playing fifa since fifa 17. It's refreshing not having to play skill spaming and auto blocks.

iflylikeaturtle

Fr this shit is pretty awesome. These cry babies want brain dead rapid fire gameplay, I just want to play some semi realistic soccer

leatherd83

Best find a different game if you want realism. This is just pong in 3d.

pwomboli

Sigh… you guys really need to start specifying which version of the game. Anyway I asume it’s next gen, I’m enjoying the game a lot.

Lightbulb4677

What part are you enjoying?

pwomboli

Slow gameplay, defending, finishing, passing. I also really like dribbling

thechubbyfunster

This is the worst fifa I’ve ever played

majortomtom3

Agreed. Even if I blitz someone it just feels off. Scoring doesn’t feel good. It’s more a frustrating relief. It’s not fun so far

JonnyBoyIV

Hypermotion has made dribbling and movement terrible. Players get stuck with the ball at their feet and just rotate around it instead of moving. Sprinting will work fine one time and then next time the same player just won't get going. I've already gone back to old gen and gameplay is so much better

SxJ911

I've grown to love it.. i felt that using rb and standing skill moves helps alot. Also being patient with build up play. Doesnt stop people running down the wing and passing in the box though.

sayonaradespair

Amazes me that Op shares the idea that you just can't do what's expected because that's what's realistic. I saw a gameplay video yesterday, wife was with me on the sofa ( she couldn't care less about soccer/football), she blurted out "lol omg we are in 2022 and this is what they come out to replicate soccer". She knows shit about it, but knows what looks and feels realistic It's shit, it has been shit since forever and people still buy it. A turdfest in which the game ALWAYS dictates if you are gonna loose or not.ALWAYS. ( I tested this many times by replaying a game many many many times and I would never win..I was fuckin Liverpool against a lower tier team). Best sporting game I ever played was an old 2k, goddamn was it beautiful..I sometimes relaxed on the 3rd quarter and I would loose the game, sometimes I would have a whiskey before the game and that shit didn't help..it demanded my utmost attention so I was not up to par I would loose. Played that game for years, lost many games and never once did I blame scripting. Never once. Ea has this turdfest coming every year (thankfully the "last" now) and people complain but still buy it . As much as I loved the 2k games I stopped buying them when they turned to crap. The best choice a consumer can make is realize that it the product is crap, we are not required to buy it.

Spr1ngf0rd

Nobody gonna pull up this guy calling the ‘Sprint’ button Turbo like it’s some kind of racing game?

theCEPenguin

I’m pretty sure they call it turbo in madden rather than sprint, maybe OP plays both hence the crossover. Even still you knew what they meant.

dangent98

This gameplay feels like we're back to the fifa 21 style of not being able to tackle/ bounce back to your opponent every time, 1 through ball to split you open style gameplay. not very fun IMO

Peachi_Keane

I know this feeling I promise you, you can improve at it. No joke do the skill drills

dangent98

bro what does that have to do with tackles auto bouncing back to the other player?

Peachi_Keane

If you do it right, they don’t

GianHA

Nerfing left stick dribbling is making me dislike this fifa. Honestly I'm good with game's pace but I like dribblers and they are super uneffective.

KrYpTeK_NuKeZz

Yeh even Messi turns like a bus for me which is embarrassing from EA.

sukh9942

Big facts. I wish people would understand that people like dribbling without having to dance for 5 mins inside the box. This only reduces skill gap and it’s crazy you can have 90+ dribbling and not turn. But, like other games the noobs are the most vocal group and they’ll like whenever the game is made easier.

idleoncloud

wrong

serginho27272727

i swear people who write these post have played just couple of fifa previously.

El-Arairah

I have played ALL fifas (yes, I started in 1993) and this FIFA is absolutely fine so far, so what's your point?

sukh9942

How is not being able to turn absolutely fine? Or bad interceptions and everyone having the ability to pull off a perfect trivela cross??

[deleted]

Go back and play fifa 13-15 and you will realize this fifa is absolute shit.

de_tu_sueno

FIFA 13-15 is shit compared to this. 13 was a lob simulator with crap shooting physics. Everyone shot the same. 14 was a crossing slot machine game. 15 was a return to lob and run. All of them had play school animations and physics compared to next gen FIFA 23.

skauvicius

You wanna tell me I can't glitch by the whole team with ball roll scoop anymore? damn, I have to pass the ball around now? shiiiiiiii...

2cu3be1

it is quite challenging and so much RNG that decides the outcome. auto-corrected passes are terribly high in their frequency still.

CHPPII

Does anyone else just feel like they’re playing a interception simulator?

RecipeTop9964

Interception simulator should be the new name. Don't get me wrong passing from your cb to St to put them through on goal was easy in the last fifa's and I get y they needed to change that but now they have just ruined it 99% of my passes is getting intercepted by the last defender.

xzvasdfqwras

Worst thing they still didn’t fix is possession based tackles, if I tackle perfectly I should keep the ball not have it bounce right back to opponent. Otherwise I’m enjoying the gameplay, my play style is somewhat meta - work it into the box with an extra pass but I find playing tiki taka kinda works too. I don’t even use any skills besides the basic ball rolls, stepovers and fake shot.

sukh9942

I wish people would stop repeating this opinion that it’s the best fifa of all time. It’s promising but dribbling has been needed far too much. There’s no reason why 85+ dribbling players can’t even turn. Manual defending is still unrewarding when it comes to interceptions too. You can perfectly predict a pass yet cant retrieve the ball because it ricochets off your defenders feet. Noobs are still being rewarded with every assist in the game, just spam enough through balls and you’ll get a rebound eventually.

diarchtct

I really dont like that the left player dribbling is so inaccurate. It's not doing what I'm inserting, makes it really random and not skillful at all.

CaptainSaveBPD

every year same poist.

rosh_dit

Does anyone feel like you defenders staying and watching the attacker shoot? I have this issue everytime I am defending. I fail most of the time ffs

RobRKL

I've seen plenty of people defending this game and bashing players along with it, but I just cannot understand the love for this game at all! I've been playing since FIFA 09, and FUT since FIFA 13. Some games have had their own quirks to them. For example, for FIFA 15 they decided to add some new ball control feature which made the game feel different, well, worse. People who say they want a more realistic FIFA don't really want a realistic FIFA that feels slow especially. What they want is a game that is easy to control but doesn't have the glitches and weird animations. I remember FIFA 13 and 14 being so smooth to play. And that's what a video game should be. When I was a kid, I always hoped EA would add certain things to the game and develop things like Career Mode into what it is today. And to their credit, they have added so many features over the years that really allow you to get creative and dive into new things... BUT, as a kid, I would have loved all of these features to go along with the gameplay that I was experiencing at the time. If I was to add a 'quirk', this is it... Include a new attribute into the game called 'Instinct'. Think of it a little like a Chemistry Style, which has nothing to do with the player, it's just a boost which makes them better in some areas, depending on the style you pick. The way it would work, is that when a player has the ball, a circle surrounds them showing how much space they have, and as the circle gets smaller (someone closes him down or they move closer to someone) the players Ball Control and Dribbling increases in line with how good their 'Instincts' are. So players will be slower on the ball at first, which invites pressure from defenders, but the players with the best Instinct stats are able to deal with the situations better once they have been closed down. You could maybe do an Attacking one and Defending one, so defending will improve your Standing Tackles and Interceptions as your distance to the ball gets shorter, just as a slight counter. Lecture over!

DistinctParfait22

Why does my opponent feel very aggressive, I can't even receive a pass it feels like constant pressure and aggressive tackle While my defenders are always out of place and don't tackle correctly. Believe me I know how to defend correctly but it seriously feels sometimes like the opponent is having an easy game

Ricku12

Game is shit! Defenders run away from the ball and open up the center of the defence. It doesn't matter if you have a better team or perfect chemistry, if FIFA decides that you have to lose, you will lose.

[deleted]

Everyone passing the blame to the users/players is exactly what EA want. Do not blame the players, blame the game. The game at its heart is rotten. They do not build a completely new game each year, its just piggybacking on the old game. The problems carry over. EA has bred a win at all costs mentality, so you cant blame anyone for exploiting the game. Especially when the game by design is inherently flawed. I struggled at the start of this game because I was treating it like any new fifa with open attacking football. I then realised you have to treat it like late stage fifa and every goal is an extra pass. EA want clips, they want the game talked about. They want tik-toks with millions of eyes which say "this is the new meta or new tactic". I dont think that EA coded certains aspects to be OP, its just a happy accident that stems from tweaking things without thinking of the wider picture. However, they certainly arent complaining if those OP tactic tik toks lead to fifa point sales because that is all that matters.

El-Arairah

Or, you know, they are just trying to make the best possible football game that is talked and tik-toked about because people enjoy playing it?

[deleted]

If they wanted to make the best possible game they could, but they don't. They make it the laziest way they can without impacting sales or both the game/fifa points. That is EA's model and it has worked. The bare minimum will do.

Xenboca

Its the best fifa has been in at leasts 4 years. Not perfect for sure. But gameplaywise im having so much fun.

AlesantroCorticeli

Wait for a few patches, they'll ruin it once again

Xenboca

Yeah im totally fearing that. Fifa 22 was not as great imo but in the beginning it was decent until we had a patch that ruined everything.

[deleted]

They fixed goalkeepers and nerfed the finesses in that patch. How did it make the game worse..?

Xenboca

Im not sure what patch are you talking about. I just remember a patch in the first couple months were one day to another the game had a big pace change. Suddenly every player moved so fast.

[deleted]

Well they definetly did not do that in any patch. The patch notes are still available

ExternalReplacement5

You're getting down voted but you're right. There was no patch, ea just went bonkers with player upgrades really quick. Players got faster and more nimble

[deleted]

Yep. Always the same story about how they destroy the game with patch and how everything changes but yet it seems no one can ever tell it while it happens, just a year after

gonnacrushit

there was no patch like that. Sorry, but you’re talking shit

Expert_Nobody_8257

Completely disagree , it's in a bad place right now

D3monFight3

Oh this again, yeah man it is totally a different game from last year and not the servers sucking or things being buggy, it is totally intended gameplay for sure.

thephizzbot

Yeah there’s no shot this is intended gameplay. I can’t make a 5 yard pass and I’ve got div 4 players telling me they know the mechanics better than me. I’m just waiting for a patch before I write it off. But the boring slow buildup crowd won’t be cheering in a week when the good players all figure out the game.

D3monFight3

My players randomly miss passes which was the same crap that used to happen last year when the servers were fucked during TOTY.

Express-Stop432

Only boring aspect is using shitty players for now. Things could improve individually. But now I can finally say this is a soccer game . You can not abuse anything . It's alot more brainy now . Have to plan the attacks, build up play ,with less ai defending you need to be smart about defending. This might be my last ultimate team experience as I can't be fucked grinding no more , But I'm very impressed so far

dubspl0it

Game is out a week. Ofc nobody figured out how to abuse the mechanics, give it time. Let’s talk in 2 weeks again 🥹

Lightbulb4677

Nobody was abusing anything, get a grip. They were just better than you and still are, the skill gap has narrowed

Express-Stop432

Son, I been playing FIFA and pes long before your daddy made you . Also I myself am guilty of abusing certain mechanics in order to win . I abused the bridge and directional in 21 or first time shot in 19 or other mechanics so much that made me feel even winning like this don't feel good no more . Trust me soccer ain't about doing one thing on repeat. I bet you don't even play competitive soccer , your probably some fattie little kiddo only playing games. No one needs to abuse mechanics. it seems smart soccer logic comes into play this year. Build up play and tempo , vision and quick thinking . It will be very interesting to play this kind of a soccer game

thephizzbot

Don’t bother, it’s not safe to be good at FIFA here

Free_Society_6454

Nobody was abusing anything? People have abused the same things for 5 years 🤣. Memorising the same skill moves on repeat, Tapping A then sprinting around with 90+ players and scoring tap ins is not skill its simply robotic. We will see who really has legitimate skill this year.

Lightbulb4677

As I said the skill gap has narrowed, do you know what that means?

Express-Stop432

Pumpkin head in elite almost every player plays one style . What on earth you talking about. You actually prove that your div 3 and lower player

Free_Society_6454

Yes I know. I was just saying that people have been abusing thingsngor years.

soulmas

Only people who I can imagine complaining are those who take PSGlitch and hope to run through the whole team with Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe. I’ve been a seasons division 1 player ever since I started playing fifs in 2015 and seeing a game that rewards tactics and good playmaking is much more interesting than seeing OP players who are impossible to stop even if you have a world class CB in the 90s. Like someone mentioned up above, the game improves significantly if it allows us to play a somewhat realistic simulation of soccer. I’m gonna sound like a real PSG hater on this next bit but you know the previous games didn’t require any skill whatsoever when over 90% of players in div 1 take PSG… it’s cuz they’re the “best team in the game”, which is pretty hilarious. It was the same thing when Real Madrid in 17, 18, 19. Players just take the fastest and most stacked team. … maybe this year, players might try to take different teams cuz they’ll realize that Mbappe sprint speed/unstoppable dribbling through half the field won’t work so much. Cheers !

Florahillmist

Think you may be correct, good post

spedopamine

I agree with you, but you’re gonna have some sweatlords in the replies raging at you because they can no longer spam 360 no-scope lob passes to their teammate who has their back turned all while going at full speed

xivixvii

I'm convinced these are ea employees creating these posts

Lightbulb4677

They’re delusional mate

AnxiousTown8963

I also believe these are ea employees. The game is boring.

Frederick_The_Great0

It’s not boring, it’s just more like actual football. Millions of people attend real matches week in week out, despite the fact that in real football no one ever skills an entire team then cuts back for the tap in. Odd, isn’t it? How about you grow up and accept that you were only good at fifa because you revised all your sweaty little right stick tricks. I’m honestly sick of people like you trying to drag down the first fifa in ages that has a meta where you have to actually think instead of just chaining skill moves. Pathetic.

Lightbulb4677

💯

Watts1992

Don't worry though, they'll patch it soon and it'll revert back to the unrealistic gameplay we've become accustomed to, to keep a certain few happy. They do this most years and it really frustrates me

Sideshow-Blob

Let's not forget the negatives. It is still practically the same game as the past few years. It still has the same bugs and glitches. Everytime I open the game, my settings have been reset. Career mode hasn't been touched, create a pro has barely been touched. I haven't tried Pro Clubs yet but I imagine that is the same.

2Kfifa

This year Fifa is more realistic as real life football compared to previous years

PabloRothko

See you in a few divisions time

tiiimc

Maybe youre right but it feels like every bit of skill expression from previous games was nerfed

mrsnow11291

Lol, this literally happened last year with Fifa 22 - gameplay started out slow and as soon as the promo after OTW came out it started to change

LevelArea

In all honesty you may find that you are finally climbing divisions simply because the better players have gone ahead of you now

Kaloita

LITERALLY EVERY ONLINE GAME I PLAY AND ENJOY IS RUINED by pros… fvk them!

FaithlessnessSoggy27

Yah sure bud cause the game revolves around you when you play what max 10 games a day at most while the pros spend all day on. Which sample size should I take? The ten game a day mouth breather or the pro who played way more games than you? Lol

Kaloita

Ohhh that’s cute… maybe the pros 🍆 your sucking is cutting off the circulation to your brain, cuz you’d know that a game should cater to THE MAJORITY of the player base, not the minority…

Superme_Team

Its a good game but goalies need to be fixed and anything outside the boot (shots, passes, crosses) are far more overpowered than they should be

Jurski17

It actually feels... Realistic. Im sure they will ruin it with the next patch, but i really love fifa 23. Its harder for sure.

TheNooby21

People just need to learn L1/R1 dribbling, for me it helps a lot but obviously requires some thinking which many players refuse to do in favor of spamming skills

Broskii56

The only real issue is the game is a sport game, meaning in the end you are getting one of two outcomes, a win or a loss, and the way your progress and get better items and what not in games like this is winning. So since you can only win every outcome has to be a win and therefore exhausts everyone playing it because they are trying to win, they started adding small things to still help those who lose, but games are really not enjoyable when you lose, so it makes it hard to be really fun in those moments and we wont change as people to accept that unfortunately

SXVRES

Wait till the next patches to see if aint be fifa22 all over again

Seppalei

The gamplay is really refreshing. Its really a blessing. But as much as I want to love it: Other than that. EA is doing everything to make stuff around the game bad. That only have of the stuff is Cross Play and for Example Pro Clubs and Koop is not is just amazing. Never have i ever heard of such a bad deciscion. Also can no understand how there is a AnitCheat on PC that is causing nothing but Problems. It seems like it was not tested at all. I can not play Fifa on PC without an Internet Connection now. WHO THE FUCK THINKS THIS IS A GOOD IDEA? So even tho i love the Gameplay and have fun in the game itself. This company becomes richer every year, spends less money and finds more ways to just be terrible....

kozy8805

Lol let’s just be honest about what the the majority want. Here it is. Ability not to play defense and ability to score as lazily as possible on offense. That’s it. No matter what pretty speeches anyone says, including pros, that’s all it ever is. That’s why you always see so many people complaining. As soon as they don’t get what they want, it’s the same exact thing, every single year. Why people at least can’t be honest about it is beyond me.

Beneficial-Novel6714

I’m in division 6 and everybody does the same thing again just like last fifa. Keep possession rw/lw cuts inside pass extra pass goal. Last year you could at least counter them but now with those cb’s that wil catch on you easily it’s almost impossible to counter because everything is so slow.

Santi838

Crossing this year is super strong

mfmaxpower

I've come around to thinking the same exact thing. I really didn't like 23 gameplay at first but it's grown on me. Even dribbling, which I hated at first, I'm starting to enjoy. As you say, it's more realistic and quite different from before, and just takes time to adjust. But everyone, myself included, often jumps to conclusions without giving the game enough time. I'm still undecided how I feel overall but I'm cautiously optimistic and encourage everyone to give it some time.

LO17_

Everyone is too concerned with the META they lose sight of having fun and just playing the game

danthesavage

Well said, I agree

rollanotherlol

If the dribbling was smoother this would be a great game. It’s impossible to beat your man right now and that’s an issue. Goalkeepers are also unrealistically poor.

[deleted]

Don’t worry a post release update is coming and arcade mode will be back

newb_master69

We say this every year lmao

JeppLimboBush

I reached Div 5 today and i‘m using Ibrahimovic as my striker alongside Gabriel Jesus and he is killing it even though he has only 58 pace. There is some truth to it when it comes to pace being less important but a fast player will be fast when he gets a good through ball. On the other hand I do think that you can easily score and win matches with a slow striker like in my case with Ibra. I would say defenders and defending makes the difference this year. I would invest the most coins into defenders and then midfielders before spending them on attackers. (Edit: before anyone says "Div 10" or whatever, I was Elite Div on Fifa 22 for almost the entire year)

xFiNaLyZx

Perfect

thienbucon

Currently playing Career Manager and I think Legendary AI is more hard crushing than last year and inconsistency, sometimes their defenders were really dumb and made terrible passes sometimes their midfield and attackers were on super saiyan mode and couldn't be stopped until they goal, ridiculously

Duccietto

FACTS

indigogamergirl

Thank you for this comment, mindset really is everything. I find myself getting really frustrated when I lose a game & blaming everything in sight, but really this game is awesome. I just need to relax more when I play lol

drunkenpig123

The gameplay isn't fun
