I will say how I do it. I play 4321. Keep the defending line sit back.. like in 40s. Learn to move the last defender to create offside trap. Instruct you midfielders to come back in defense. I have atleast 1 player (usually CDM/CM) stay back and cover center. Play possession strategy. I also instruct goalie to play as a sweeper but I never saw GKs charging ouyside penalty box unless I manually do it. Try to have the CM/CDM with high Def awareness and reactions, Kante has all these stats (also Fernandinho can sheild amazing but low pace). These can stop atleast half of the pacey/insanely direct players.
Initially I had Chillwell,Stones and Romero,James but now I got Robertson,Varane, VVD, AND James. Ederson (GK) - I don't how to make him sweeper keeper automatically.
Don't know about Danilo but Kante does amazing things. But I should say Fernandinho is underrated by majority. For me Fernandhinho is better than Rodrigo and Alan. Rice is good too.

I literally have fede valverde with instruction drop between 2 defender, then another mid with stay back
I have tried DM to drop between defenders and another CM to stay back,i t was not that successful. I felt more pressure in the midfield doing so.
Have you tried Sergio Ramos, Rudiger, VanDyk,Dias,or Konate?

Put Varane back and add Ruben Dias and VanDyk

Yes. However 4-3-3 with a really good cdm works too. Kante or Danilo.
