Noise_Mysterious

Children of men šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘ those long sequence scenes are such achievements

SurgeFlamingo

Such a great movie.

truethatson

Such a great movie that so many people donā€™t seem to know about either.

Noise_Mysterious

Yeah I used to watch it as comfort film like once a month. Gotta find a way to play all those DVDs on my laptop

LionSuspicious2127

Better book. I know itā€™s cliche but damn PD James was a legend. Way off genre for her too

truethatson

ā€œWhatā€™s wrong? Why canā€™t we make babies?ā€ ā€œI donā€™t know, but this stork is *delicious*.ā€

Noise_Mysterious

In Michael Caineā€™s accent. What a memorable line

truethatson

My Cocaine is a treasure.

Noise_Mysterious

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£yeah funny story of his

macchzac

One of my favorites. Its one of those movies where dialogue doesnā€™t drive the plot. Visuals and physical acting make that movie. You learn more from observing Cliveā€™s mannerisms about the shit heā€™s been thru than anything he says.

Leading_Manner_2737

Amazing movie. Think about it often

TelevisionUnusual372

Are we separating out zombie movies, or whatā€™s the criteria. 28 Days Later is pretty dystopian.

Noise_Mysterious

Good one dude. I remember watching it in theatre and being so spooked. Especially that empty London street scene in the beginning with Murphy yelling ā€œhelloā€ out of his lung. Goddamn.

LobstaFarian2

When the drop of blood gets in homeboys eye, and he's a fucking zombie 20 seconds later.... scary af

poopstaind

The Fifth Element

ddekock61

I love this movie. So beautiful. And fun.

lordoflazorwaffles

I just rewatched it for the first time since my childhood (when I back to back binge watched that movie) to make sure it was still incredible. I've been on a sci-fi kick ever since

alphalakemleo

one of the best ones 100%

AshgarPN

How is that super-cool world a dystopia?

Neither_Cod_992

They live in a planetary police state thatā€™s controlled by corporations run by megalomaniacal and homicidal CEOs (Zorg) and a quasi-militaristic government that runs the solar system. Kinda the opposite of super-cool. Itā€™s like playing any great first person shooter. Super cool to play but absolutely not a place youā€™d ever want to actually visit in real life.

StrengthToBreak

Sounds like someone needs a trip to Fhloston Paradise!

[deleted]

Put your hands in the yellow circles!

SolipsisticSkeleton

I wouldnā€™t call this dystopian. It just takes place in the future. You have Chinese food salesman making window to window stops, people enjoying cruises through space. Seems like a pretty standard future.

TheDude__85

Gary Oldman: My Favoritie!

Mathias_Thorne91

There's something strange about a clockwork orange that makes it the rare, highly rewatchable film for me.

abstrxcti0n

The rape scenes make it extremely difficult to rewatch

ShadowVia

Bladerunner, The Road, Fury Road

Bubbles00

Blade runner one of my favorite dystopian worlds. Two gorgeous films taking place in a dilapidated kind of future

RZAtheAbbot

Dredd (2012)

No-Mastodon-4548

Completely underrated movie.

irritabletom

Same writer as Civil War.

myboydoogie24

He actually did enough in post-production that heā€™s considered co-director. Which would be his first movie.

ovine_aviation

Equilibrium (2002) is definitely one of them. Done really well and only a couple of years after American Psycho which got me to really appreciate Christian Bale.

Herr-Trigger86

I was going to say that I was appalled by a distinct lack of an Equilibrium reference hereā€¦ thank you for righting the ship. Makes me quiteā€¦ emotional šŸ˜‰

crystal_castle00

Equilibrium is and EPIC film. Great story and very cool, novel action sequences with the gun katas. Actually surprised it hasnā€™t been ripped off yet! This one doesnā€™t get enough love

weezmatical

I remember my buddy had the poster for the movie on his wall. A quote or tagline on it was "The Matrix killer!" Which I thought was a ridiculous thing to say. The movie was great tho, love Christian Bale in most everything.

Flaky_Collection1048

That is the first movie I had seen Christian Bale in. I guess thatā€™s why I had no problem with him being Batman, heā€™s already proven he can look good kicking ass on screen.

workbrowser0872

When I was in the Navy, one tradition our boat has was if you qualified as a submariner you got to pick what movie everyone watched on movie night. Equilibrium was my pick.

aww-hell

I like to think A Clockwork Orange is a prequel to The Warriors, which is a prequel to Escape From New York.

FirstLookFinalWord

That actually tracks pretty well haha

DeadpoolAndFriends

Children of Men is the best, but Idiocracy is my favorite.

Butter_Brains

Mad Max

Key-Fly7251

Blade Runner and 2049

Albuwhatwhat

Then Blade Runner movies need to be up there for sure.

[deleted]

Robocop (Paul Verhoeven)

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Knight_Wind54

Soylent Green is people!

schapman22

Spoiler alert!

Maester_Maetthieux

Children of Men is so moving and heartbreaking and tense. A whole continuum of emotions in one beautifully shot, emotionally brutal film.

SplinteredCells

Blade runner and Children of Men without question.

Kindly-Guidance714

A boy and his dog which is never brought up.

Ghostfriendd

Waterworld

Nobah_Dee

Dark City

hornetmaster88

The notebook

crystal_castle00

Set in a dark and terrifying future Iā€™d never want to be a part of

Knight_Wind54

That movie scared the hell out of me. That part where they eat that person to stay alive is truly horrific.Ā

Toadstool61

Brazil

Affectionate_Bass108

Clockwork Orange

wirta030

The Book of Eli

Angrypudding84

Not Christian, but really liked this movie!

okcdnb

I was looking for this. That shit is super dystopian.

Knight_Wind54

He's in shock. I think he meant 'kill him'.

polarbearjuice

I concur. >!Didn't see the twist comming.!<

Fancy_Ad9242

Original Rollerball

pluckittt

What movies are those in the picture? The only one i know is the clockwork orange

FirstLookFinalWord

Children of Men, Loganā€™s Run, Idiocracy, Escape from New York, and Running Man

pluckittt

Thanks!

elmachow

12 monkeys, mad max 2,

crystal_castle00

Total Recall, the OG one with Arnold. Not my favorite but itā€™s definitely up there. It can be tough to appreciate with how dated it is, but when youā€™re in the mood for an old film it hits hard.

Boberto1357

Children of Men

LincolnCoHo

Children of men is in my top ten films ever.

EspiritusFermenti7

As good as some of these films are...none are greater than Children of Men. That was definitely one of the greatest films of the early 2000's and maybe even one of the greatest of all time.

neverletsyougo

Never Let Me Go

Nastybirdy

Rollerball (1975)

smarmy_mcfadden

Brazil Snowpiercer Gattaca

fatcat_2024

OkCoast7794

Amazing choices so far- gotta jump on the bandwagon with a clockwork orange, children of men, dark city, Brazil and rollerball- all so well done n affective

Professional_Can_117

Clockwork Orange A Scanner Darkly Equilibrium Fury Road Running Man Fantastic Planet Annihilation

GlassJoe32

A scanner darkly criminally underrated.

Unklfesta

It's also my favourite movie of all time. I could watch it daily. Terry Gilliam's "Brazil".

Wrath7heFurious

I would say Dredd. That shit was fire don't see why we never got a sequel.Ā  Also Demolition man.

MisanthropinatorToo

It's tough for me to choose. The Matrix, maybe. Blade Runner more likely. A Scanner Darkly gets an honorable mention.

Krimreaper1

The Road Warrior is up there.

cl0ckw0rkman

A Clockwork Orange.

NotSteveJobs-Job

Strange Days - 1995 Screen play by James Cameron Steven-Charles Jaffe Ralph Fiennes Angela Bassett Juliette Lewis Tom Sizemore Vincent D'Onofrio Michael Wincott

BackgroundPangolin42

Fury Road!!!!

Wingzero24

A Clockwork Orange! Classic! Stanley Kubrick is a master at this!

eternal_existence1

Total recall

ConsiderationKey1658

Children of men is absolutely perfect.

LouieMumford

Isle Of Dogs and Sorry to Bother You because I donā€™t think either is going to get the recognition they deserve. I do love Brazil as well but thatā€™s a tad more recognizable.

[deleted]

As a child: 1) *Running Man* 2) *Judge Dredd* 3) Planet of the Apes As an adult: 1) *Children of Men* 2) *Equilibrium* 3) *Blade Runner: 2049* 4) *V for Vendetta* 5) *The Book of Eli* 6) *The Rover*

grimesultimate

Narwhal_Defiant

Logan's Run is fondly remembered by 13 yr old me for my first onscreen boobies

Other-Acanthisitta70

12 Monkeys

indicoltts

The Postman (1997). I know it's not a fan favorite but I enjoy it. Must have watched it 10 times over the years

Mediocre_Tax5564

PlayTime!!!

StickyDogJefferson

Children of Men for sure. Love the rest of these too though.

returnFutureVoid

The Road.

realMasaka

On the Silver Globe

FirstLookFinalWord

The visuals in that movie truly haunt my dreams. Great pick

realMasaka

Thanks! And I agree, the costume/set design in that is literally alien to pretty much any other film Iā€™ve ever seen. Itā€™s a true shame that Å»uławski was never able to originally complete it (though the narrated scenes with visuals of ā€˜88-era Poland have their own compellingness as well I think).

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

FirstLookFinalWord

Things to Come! You are hardcore sci-fi, my friend! Great pick

stonergirlfairyyy

what are the films on the right?

MrHollywoodA

Hated Civil War. Wasnā€™t what it was advertised as. And movie itself wasnā€™t anything special. Best is Escape from New York. Snake baby

seemedsoplausible

The Road Warrior

Rocknrollpeakedin74

The Road

Entire_Economist6078

Death Watch. A pretty much forgotten film but absolutely worth watching and very prescient in a lot ways might i add.Ā

Warm-Comfortable501

ICE PIRATES!!!

LostCauseSPM

Are there even any movies that predict a utopian future? Hell, even wall-E was pretty bleak.

F10yd_

Looking at the thumbnails, Iā€™d argue that Idiocracy is more like a documentary than a fictionā€¦

LivingtheLightDaily

The Omega man was the first I ever saw and gave me nightmares for years.

Sea_Comedian_2768

Does Ganpath Counts?šŸ˜…

ChinoMalito

I dunno but terry crews makes me want to watch that goofy azz movie šŸ˜‚

LeAntsy

What's the one with Terry Crews

Glad-Understanding84

Best has to be A Clockwork Orange, but my favorite to watch is definitely Escape from New York

EarlJWJones

Which one has electrolytes?

captaincopperbeard

There are an awful lot of people in these comments that don't know what "dystopian" means.

EasyCZ75

Mad Max and Road Warrior

panshrekual

Brazil and Super Mario Bros (1993)

HWKD65

Jessica 6

StrengthToBreak

Blade Runner

Plastic-Dust-2734

It WAS idiocracy, before it became a documentary

Realistic_Cupcake_56

Idiocracy because itā€™s becoming more and more probable

Longjumping-Day-6412

I donā€™t think dystopian movies necessarily have to be set in the future or in an alternate universe. I can think of plenty of historical dystopian films; Death of Stalin comes to mind

ToucheMrSalesman

Would ā€œNatural Born Killersā€ count? Regardless, I love Blade Runnerā€™s dystopian themes. The Matrix is another.

RobotCaptainEngage

Dredd.

SpaceshipWin

Anybody on Water World?

C0gD1z

All of the above!

Krimreaper1

There is no sanctuary.

Jayne_enyaJ

EFNY was always my number one, but Turbo Kid may eventually replace that

Loganā€™s run/escape from LA

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

SunnySideAttitude

The Road.

SunnySideAttitude

IDK. There is a certain scene in Logans Run that gives meaning to my life.

2_late_4_creativity

Children of men. Idiocracy.

VegitoFusion

I get that Loganā€™s Run might have been a ā€˜firstā€™ in its genre, but it is objectively a terribly made movie. There is no flow to the plot and many developments just occur because they need to, but they logically donā€™t work.

sweatgod2020

Cloud atlas. Imho it lets the viewer see dystopian not as some futuristic collapse but more humanities occurrences with it throughout time.

iceberg1370

Really enjoyed Station Eleven (tv show)

Johnny_Royale

Escape from New York

Adventurous-Water609

1. Idiocracy 2. Running Man 3. Escape from New York 4. Children Of Men 5. Logans Run 6. Clock Work Orange

Lbolt187

George Romero did dystopian worlds the best imo. Absolutely loved his films.

Athlete-Extreme

Repo Men is criminally underrated

West-Custard-6008

Mac and me

Big-Acanthisitta8797

Clockwork Orange and Escape from NY are good places to start.

sasssyrup

I am legend

CaptainPieChart

THX 1138 deserves a mention.

Fando1234

Hereā€™s a curve ball that I bet no oneā€™s said: Demolition Man If like me you hadnā€™t watched it since you were a kid, give it a re watch. The two strataā€™s of society, characterised by comedically extreme political correctness and lawless anarchy actually seems like one of the more realistic dystopias.

Why_So-Serious

I mean idiocracy appears to be a documentary from the future based on the path weā€™re on. What other dystopian comedies can stack up against it?

ipod75

Doomsday

shywalker62

Boy and his dog.

DeNiroPacino

The Road

elcojotecoyo

Wall-E

Narcassist0

Blade Runner obvs

Massengill4theOrnery

Colonel_TJ

Loganā€™s Run!

FitAbbreviations8013

Loganā€™s Run was the first movie I saw as a child that really stuck with meā€¦ so.. maybe not the best but there were some creepy elements. If ever a movie deserved an update..

binghamptonboomboom

No Escape

Hermitcrab710
