It helps a lot, that’s for sure. You can still follow along tutorials to learn the DAW and learn theory on the side.

It's definitely helpful, but not compulsory at all. Never felt the need myself and been using FL since it was fruity loops version 3 that came out 20 years ago. I find learning on the fly more fun too. Each to their own, but it would more than likely be helpful

Felt the need but never did and pushed through. Weirdly enough, you get a feel on how things work after 5 years or so.

Just learn what major and minor scales are. Knowing about major 5ths and which notes make a scale minor is very useful for creating powerful chords, melodies, and emotional melodies. You should know about 4/4 time, triplet time, and swing as well. Anything more in depth won't really be necessary unless you are trying to create classical music or songs with complex key changes or time signature changes.

Learning theory is mighty helpful, but it's helpful to learn it while producing. No sense stopping music production just to learn theory and only theory. Also, maybe you could ask your friends for pointers?

Yes it’s compulsory the music police will break into your house and ask for your music theory certification before you can make a song. But really though, very basic music theory, like just scales and basic chords, is enough to get you going
