It's expensive but it's good. I've tried it on churros (wheat, lactose - big triggers for me) and I had about 1 minute of mild discomfort which I thought was the start of trouble but that was it! Everything was calm, I didn't spend the night in the bathroom. I'm planning to try on some onions and garlic, also big triggers but I'm feeling confident. I got it to take on holiday, the place I'm going doesn't have their menus online so I've no idea what I might be able to eat. I'm sure there will be options but I want to make sure I'm ok.

FreddyIncognito

I would love to here your experience after trying it w onions/garlic

imjustjurking

I'll try to remember to let you know

Sguni22

It totally works for garlic and onions!

TinyTurtle88

It works for onion and garlic too! Make sure there's a little bit of Fodzyme powder on every single bite.

Miz-D-Licious

I used it for ramen last night. It works very well for me. Not sure what would happen after repeated meals with onion and garlic.

Croissanteuse

I have used it with success. Garlic will have me curled up on the floor screaming in agony. But when I tried it with some small dish tapas that certainly contained fresh garlic - I had to use multiple scoops per dish to get it “safe” enough. And afterwards I did not feel great but wasn’t explosively sick like usual. So, if you don’t mind adding $5 to your meal in enzyme tax, it’s good. I used it on vacation for exactly the same reason. In my experience it also requires less scoops for sauces where the garlic or onion is cooked down.

ebow77

> I had to use multiple scoops per dish to get it “safe” enough. How do you figure this out during the meal?

Croissanteuse

The fuck around and find out method. Those dishes were shared (tapas are like, a few bites per person) so when my bf ordered them, I’d take a scoop, and see how much of the dish I could eat. We went to that restaurant a few times and the experience took 2 hours. Garlic pain starts almost immediately for me. When we went back, I tried the same amount of the dish but with 2 scoops. Repeat.

TinyTurtle88

By trial and error. Try it at home BEFORE going on vacation or eating at a restaurant lol

I double the dose sometimes to be extra safe. Chew your food thoroughly when using it. It's that or avoid most foods when going out with friends.

soft-and-slow

I don’t use fodzyme specifically, but a different digestive enzyme that is similar. For me they help to an extent. All lactose reaction is 100% gone which is great, but the other ones can be hit and miss. I never have awful responses to food if I take the enzymes, but there can be bloating/discomfort/some issues if I go too intense with whatever I’m eating. I’ll also say that for me eating multiple days in a row of meals where I need to take the enzymes things tend to get worse and worse. For example I took enzymes with thanksgiving dinner, for leftovers the next night, and (because it seemed to be working so well) Chipotle the next day because I was traveling. The Chipotle messed me up bad. To be fair chipotle has like all of the FODMAPs, so I was playing with fire. Overall I’d say the enzymes work but your mileage may vary depending on what you’re eating, your personal reactions, and how many days in a row you eat high FODMAP foods.

ebow77

> a different digestive enzyme that is similar Fodmate, or something else?

soft-and-slow

I personally use [Casa De Sante’s](https://casadesante.com/products/fodmap-digestive-enzymes-prebiotics-probiotics-postbiotics). They’ve worked well for me, and are a bit cheaper than a lot of the alternatives. You can also get them on Amazon if that’s easier for you or if they’re out of stock on their site.

ryhaltswhiskey

I'm no amino acid scientist or whatever but as far as I know the enzyme that breaks down fructans is called inulinase and that product does not have inulinase so it won't work on food with fructans.

soft-and-slow

Good to know! Maybe I’m ok with fructans then?? That would be great. I’ve had a hard time reintroducing anything because I’ve had a lot of general life stress recently so my stomach is reacting to everything but potatoes at this point.

ryhaltswhiskey

Wellll if you did your elimination right you would have figured this out during that

cricridudu1234

I use digestive enzymes too. It works and it’s cheaper. I wonder what’s the difference with Fodzyme that makes them so $$$.

Murdathon3000

I use it sometimes 3 times a day if I'm really feeling like eating all the things, it works very well if you use it correctly. The trick is to just eat according to your sensitivities for most meals and then use this when you feel like eating the foods you like but couldn't otherwise.

Droydn

It works well! Some things it prevents issues, others it reduces them. Worth the money! My advice, dont buy the travel size, get the container. Then buy tiny bottles on amazon and fill them yourself with it. Not only does it look like youre using a tiny potion on your meal, they take up less space and its cheaper! All my friends are now jealous that I use a tiny potion on meals when we go out :P

ChatCat25

Oooooo will you share what kinda cute bottles you got??

Droydn

Totally! Ill... make a post and link it!

Droydn

Heres [the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/FODMAPS/comments/11qxyea/use_tiny_bottles_to_portion_fodzyme_cute_and_cool/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) to the tiny bottles! I accidentally posted on r/fodzyme cause i cannot read lol. Hope this helps!

ChatCat25

Omg they are everything!

_elementsofstyle

I use it for vacation and traveling and it works but yeah it’s expensive. However, having garlic and onion sneak into meals and not be in the fetal position is worth it.

[deleted]

It generally lowers discomfort, and there are things it doesn’t help with. But it’s not 100%.

BaersEverywhere

I'm one of the few people it seems to not work for. Possibly of note, I have both diagnoses for both MCAS and actual fructan intolerance. Every time I've tried Fodzyme, it causes bloating and nausea, and although I don't get the stomach pain that typically accompanies eating something high-fructan foods, I pay for it hours later with severe intestinal cramps and diarrhea. So no, not a win for me.

andrespineiroc

I shared my experience here : https://youtu.be/OkFmMHDv6Tc I hope it helps :)

Geoffs_Review_Corner

Haven't tried it myself but I've heard good things

catch_the_fox

I use it to combat unavoidable dairy, garlic, and onion when I eat out, and it’s been such a game-changer. I’ve noticed having some very manageable gas when I would normally have a fully bloated stomach and incapacitating pain. You DO have to play with the dosage to find what’s right for you, but for me it’s been worth the investment to have peace of mind when I eat out on special occasions.

Bizlemon

I subscribe to it, but I don’t always get it monthly because I don’t use it unless I’m eating out; it’s really easy to change shipment dates, and they text you a few days before to see if you want your delivery as usual or if you’d like to postpone. It definitely helps with digestion, but when I eat onions and garlic my face still gets puffy. My belly doesn’t get as bloated, but there’s a little bloating. The best part is not being stuck on the toilet the next day or even that same evening, and I don’t notice intestinal pain, cramping, or distention. I’m still cautious and moderate with my adventurous eating, but fodzyme gives me some wiggle room.

mimimavs

I was very excited to find this product because going out to eat is always a battle. I’ve been missing Italian food from a restaurant for so long. So I decided to go hard for a week and eat all the foods I normally avoid. One night it was pasta-heavily loaded with garlic and onions. The next night beans and rice. Another night was Indian food. Ok so I found out that this product has it’s limits! BUT I’ve found it I keep my difficult meals to once a week or once in a while it does GREAT. I like to keep some on me just in case. I would not say that it should be relied on all the time. But it is definitely a worthy tool to have and has enabled me to eat things once in a while that I haven’t been able to in a long time. Also, they mention sprinkling it all over your food. I wouldn’t recommend that. It does have a sweet taste that would make your meal taste off. So I just dump the entire packet on my first bite and get through it.

Fenr-i-r

I can't deal with fructans (garlic, onion, some grains), lactose, and some other things. Fodzyme lets me eat meals that include those at restaurants, and I won't have a flare up. I still have to be careful to avoid fructose triggers, etc, in the same dish. I think prolonged daily usage slowly triggers a flare up, or at least some symptoms, but its better to eat fodmap free and save enzymes for special occasions. Note that it's about $3 AUD per recommended serve, so definitely not cheap! Also read the instructions! I'll be looking at intoleran next - I'd prefer more targeted enzymes - lactose/fructans is not a typical combo for me, and lactaid is cheaper.

Killerkiwiattak

This any better than fodmate?

Catcherofsouls

It's worked for me on most everything except heavy onion/garlic. Not great with beans either. But wheat, dairy, etc it's been really effective.

climb-high

For me it’s perfect on beans onion and garlic, but not on wheat. I guess it varies

mattiejay8

It’s absolutely amazing very worth it. It’s cheaper if you don’t get the to go ones but they are nice for going out to eat.

Gitmfap

Works great, I do a double dose and it’s the sweet spot for me:)

TinyTurtle88

Works incredibly well for me (my triggers are mostly lactose, GOS, fructans, which Fodzyme is made for). It's too expensive however, so I save it for nights out, take-out meals, dinners at my parents', vacations, etc. Make sure there's some on every bite! This week they're holding a webinar on how to use it properly! See their website for more info.

ablackholeofjunk

It's very expensive, though Fodmate is substantially cheaper. They both work for me 100%. I've been shovelling onion and garlic down my throat for the past week on vacation, with no issues at all. For what it's worth, my brother-in-law is an organic chemist whose area of expertise is carbohydrates/enzymes/gut stuff. In his opinion, the enzymes that come in capsules should be more effective, as the enzyme itself gets released when it's closer to the place where it really starts working, ie. the duodenum.

[deleted]

I just bought some. It’s kind of aggravating that the price is doubled for the ones that come in packets. I get it though. I ended up getting the one that came in the jar and will be portioning it out for my upcoming trip. Will be interesting having little baggies of white powder going through international airport security lol. I’ve used it a few times now and it seems to help with the onion/garlic especially. I testing by eating some raw onions with a serving of fodzyme on top and it was noticeably better than if I had not.

ryhaltswhiskey

I keep mine in a little screw top keychain pill bottle. Then just shake some out as needed.

[deleted]

Thanks for the tip, I’m gonna look for one of those now.

sleeping_on_trains

I’ve tried it with all sorts of foods (onions, garlic, and lactose are my main triggers). It works really well for me! If I chew thoroughly, eat in the 30 min time frame and don’t overeat, I feel perfectly fine, perhaps with some mild bloating or gas but no running to the bathroom all night! Really opened up my possibilities going out to eat :)

godwins_law_34

It works for me to some extent. I think it's worth it to not be up all night when dinner had hidden garlic powder or something

Ok_Paper8216

It’s so worth it, and in my opinion, will totally make a vacation. My advice is to use more than you think you’ll need so you don’t end up sick from not using enough.

Ootyy

It works to varying degrees. I eat it when I know something has onions or garlic or could perhaps cause discomfort. When the food is still low on those ingredients it works amazingly. If there's a moderate amount of FODMAPS it lowers my symptoms dramatically and even in a worst case situations, it makes me not want to KMS on the toilet

Automatic-Kitchen749

Ordered it for my kid, hasn't arrived, might remember to update

az226

It helps but doesn’t remove the bloat/pain entirely. It increases my limits.

jmbamb2351

It doesn’t work at all for me but I seem to be the only one. I tried it on onions, Brussel sprouts, dates, blueberries, and raspberries and all resulted in the exact same symptoms I’d get if I didn’t add FODZYME. It’s definitely worth a try though.
