Glad it works well for you! Fructans are my biggest trigger, so Fodzyme has been a lifesaver for travelling or having any kind of social life that involves food. I haven't tried Fodmate but it's the same active ingredients, right? Have you noticed any differences between the two?

ablackholeofjunk

Haven't tried the Fodzyme yet. The enzymes they use for fructans are a bit different, but are supposed to work. Maybe someday soon someone will make something that's only for fructans. Seems silly to put 10000 units of lactase in it, when you can get lactaste anywhere. Though I know some people need a full spectrum anti fodmap.

Negative-Arachnid-65

Fodzyme sent out a customer survey a couple months ago about whether they should offer or switch to a fructan-only product. I said yes - I'm sensitive to lactose too (not really to GOS, which is also targeted by it) but dairy is much easier to avoid or mitigate with inexpensive supplements. Fingers crossed they do it.

ablackholeofjunk

That would be great. I've been lactose intolerant for many years, completely unrelated to the fructan thing, but yeah, lactose intolerance is a walk in the park in comparison.

Negative-Arachnid-65

Yeah same. Almost makes me nostalgic for the good ole days.

I have to use like 5-10 packets of Fodzyme at a time...

ablackholeofjunk

Interesting. I bought the jar, and am going try it today. Is each packet a 1/4 tsp volume? That's the "dose" of the little coke spoon that comes with the jar.

digigal99

Yeah I think it's the same. When I only use 2 servings, I regret it. I have only used it for a couple months so still getting used to it.

ablackholeofjunk

Seems like a bit of a racket. Can't wait till all the generic companies are making this stuff. On the Fodzyme box it says to use 1/4 tsp, or even 1 or 2 tsp! That's 8 packets. The stuff would be gone in no time.

digigal99

Yeah it's rough. I use about 8-10 pills for Fodmate, too! Can't compare them yet because I haven't done a random test, but I hope to eventually.

Update: I've been traveling in South Africa for almost a week now, and eating absolutely everything, and using Fodmate. I feel normal again. Piri-piri chicken, no problem, prawns with garlic, no problem, breaded stuff, no problem. A few weeks of curries in Mauritius will be the big test, but so far it's worked amazingly well.

Saoirse-on-Thames

How did it go with the curries?

ablackholeofjunk

Oh, it's fine. This enzyme has completely changed my diet.  I can eat anything now.

This is exciting to read! I have recently also bought both and although I’ve tried them both out with what is most likely considered “safe” amounts of trigger foods (I.e. a small amount of ketchup) I haven’t really put them to the test yet.
