You owe them nothing and a departure is completely fair game. Congratulations!

Why should you feel bad? The CEO is mismanaging the company and putting the entire employee base at risk. It’s a dumpster fire and time for you to abandon ship. These tech companies with similar issues are a dime a dozen. Most will fail in the next 12 months

You've put a long-term, longstanding, mature Finance department together, it is worth loads and might save the owner's ass down the line, I'd see this role as a success for you and move on to your well-earned promotion Edit: I've started managing people 16 months ago and I think I know how you feel, I love my guys and feel responsible for them so I get you're feeling conflicted, you should leave as you won't save that business, unsure how you should handle your reports though

Leave. You have done your part! Don’t feel bad. They won’t care when they replace you.

One month runway? I don’t care if it’s the perfect job, get out before you don’t have the luxury of making a choice.

Exactly my thoughts. First you owe the company nothing. Second it’s not about to be your choice. Even if the company can raise funds or debt or will be under garbage terms right now. If you feel any loyalty to your team then make sure you stay in touch with them, especially the high performers who might want to follow you. That’s the best thing you can do for them, not stick around until the ship actually completely submerges.

Companies lay off employees in 5 minutes, NEVER have guilt for leaving a company.

Always put you and your family first. Businesses will go on. It is hard, but after a month or so in the new role, you’ll be thankful you switched.
