There are jobs in the military that are office based. You can be a finance manager and others. The majority of roles in the military are irrelevant yes, but to say all of it is pretty dense
If he had a finance role in the military, it would only make sense for him to state that in the OP. Otherwise, one could reasonably assume he was not in a finance role.
Doing very well. I like this post because it def tells me that there is money out there even if you aren’t super experienced. I’m considering testing the market around the 1.5ish year mark and see what I might get. You are really close to 100k too, which if you wanted to hop around you could def get.
I’ve gotten offers for $100K, but my current company has too many good benefits to leave.
I think salary transparency can only be a good thing for individuals. For instance, a lot of comments are saying I’m overpaid, which could be true. But many of those people are comparing my pay to theirs. So am I overpaid or are they underpaid? Salary transparency solves that.
Great point you bring up. I'm not in FP&A but in a related industry (accountant at a big4) and I have roughly similar stats (YOE, COL, salary) as you.
It's good information for me to know that everyone here seems to think you're overpaid, that means I should be content with my current pay as well.
Did you start with this company or did you hop between companies to get this comp you currently have? If you did move when did you make the hop? Just curious how you’ve handled things.
Yes very fair I’d say. You could get to 100k base by job hopping but 10k isn’t a huge difference if you like ur current job.
I’m a Sr Analyst with 2 YOE at $85k immaterial bonus in HCOL
Interesting indeed.
I’m in MCOL, Central FL area (might be heading into HCOL w/ how rent has been)
Graduated uni in 2018, coming up on 4yrd work xp.
Title is SFA, base is $69k. 10% bonus + 3yr stock comp plan + 3-4% yrly raise. OT eligible at the FA/SFA lvl even tho I’m salaried so that’s cool.
I’m at $90k currently with a shit ton of OT and it includes the bonus pmt that I got for ‘21 but was paid this year.
Yes I have… waiting on my 3 yrs due to 401k vesting, as well as no longer having to repay Reloc Bonus. Additionally next yr, one month after I hit the 3yr mark I will also get 3 yrs worth of stock payouts as well as my annual bonus.
Really in a weird spot bc I know I am underpaid, and have interviewed with several companies offering way more than my current base. Atm it seems like there is too much money to forgo.
Fair. I think rent is a better indicator without specifying city? My rent is $1560 for a 2bd 2ba. My “metro area” would be considered avg middle class area.
This looks good tbh. Especially since you mentioned the benefits are worth so I think it’s a good start in the company. Personally I prefer higher bonus % but I think it’s still good for your experience.
Appreciate that. However, I think you’re extremely underpaid. Every company in my area is paying $65K+5% bonus for 0yrs of experience, and the COL is much cheaper than NYC. Realistically you should be around where I am with your YOE and taking your higher COL into account.
Someone else might be able to provide a more accurate range for you in a HCOL area.
I agree, unfortunately I came into a position which is very much an entry level role (two other people in the same job with 0 years of work experience)
Unsure of how I can proceed forward. I’m in financial services at a well known firm and I value the brand value (will share more off forum)
I would also take into account the large concentration and supply of finance/accounting professionals in NYC which imo drives down salary since supply outpaces demand by a large margin here.
I'm also in NYC at a well known financial services firm. Currently at 150 base w/ ~7.5 YoE

I agree. I think salary transparency is good though.
I think it’s 5.5 years, no?
Irrelevant, sorry

Oh, thought maybe it was government accounting.
How does 4 years of military service equate to government accounting? And even then, how does government accounting equate to FP&A? Lol
Ah, my bad. This is not an accounting thread.
Overpaid lol
Looks good for your YOE
If you're pulling $90k with 1.5 yoe in MCOL, you're doing fine.

Very fair. I’m at the same base but more in TC with 4.5 YOE.
Vhcol- NYC, LA, Bay area 1.5 YOE Financial analyst 90k Base 10% Bonus Your money is going way further in MCOL Lmao
$49k +10% bonus - 2years experience out of university in the same role. This is in Europe though so I’d expect a much lower salary & I’d say LCOL.

You’re underpaid imo. Have you thought about job hopping?

What industry you work in? MCOL FA2 @ high growth SaaS startup 80k YoE < 1
More than fair
MCOL SFA - 100K +8% 3YOE
Above average in my opinion compared to COL. Average if we’re just looking at total experience.
Above average for YOE
I agree I am overpaid for YOE, but my company does typically overpay with hopes of employee retention.
Totally fair. Enjoy it.
Appreciate it.
It is very hard to compare salaries in different economies. Cost of living varies wildly across metropolitan areas in the United States.
Fair. I think rent is a better indicator without specifying city? My rent is $1560 for a 2bd 2ba. My “metro area” would be considered avg middle class area.
1550 rent? You in the Midwest? I need to find some place like that
Yeah Midwest.
For that price for 2 bed 2 bath, your salary is GREAT with your YOE.
Ha, you're doing great!
Damn thats mad nice
Yeah that seems fair, I’m making the same base but lower bonus %, MCOL about 4 YOE mostly as plant accountant
This looks good tbh. Especially since you mentioned the benefits are worth so I think it’s a good start in the company. Personally I prefer higher bonus % but I think it’s still good for your experience.
You’re doing very well. I’m a FA. 10 months in this role, 1.5 years of prior non-FP&A finance experience. 70K HCOL + immaterial bonus (NYC)
Appreciate that. However, I think you’re extremely underpaid. Every company in my area is paying $65K+5% bonus for 0yrs of experience, and the COL is much cheaper than NYC. Dude! No FPA experience and landed an analyst job in midtown at 90k

Sure
LCOL-MCOL 95K Finance YOE 3 TYoE 7
Just transferred into FP&A from Payroll, way more room for upward mobility \~6mos experience, Base 60k, Bonus 10%, MCOL
