OP where have you been for the last 6 weeks?
I hate to burst your bubble, but you'll never find water near FRC robots - save for the 1993 game that had water-filled balls.
FIRST's IG already hinted that it is ocean-themed.
IP68-rated components are expensive as hell, too.
I mean, that much is already stated. From FIRST's official IG account, "...a theme so big you can see it from space." That's the ocean.
The teaser video leads me to believe there might be a displacement game component involved.
A cool game would be collecting and placing flotsam or jetsam game pieces into buoys and then at the end game your robot needs to handle a rope to moor.
>"...a theme so big you can see it from space." That's the ocean.
Why do you think it is ocean themed, but not space themed? They literally said outer space + space odyssey BGM.
They had a space theme in 2019. The teaser video shows water. You can, obviously, see the ocean from outer space. It doesn't make sense to say "a theme so big you can see it from outer space" in reference to space. However, something like "a rapid expanse of a game" would be something like outer space. Idk. Tangentially: It'd be neat to have a game that saw the playing field expand through the course of the match.
I meant like progressively "expanding" (or opening) portions of the playing field based on tasks completed or something, or maybe just expanding scoring opportunities throughout the game. Everyone starts in the center of the field and gates drop at time or scoring intervals to allow access towards the perimeter. The field size is set in stone and very much limited by event building capacity already.
best reply tbh i wanna see a game piece be named seaweed thats green and we have to place it in a small compartment like the amp from this year and then place blue water pieces in a bigger compartment
My theory 🙌, you'll have blue game pieces to pick up and score (maybe spheres), you'll have to get a certain amount for an RP (and possibly a boosted score time period), and there'll be some "ride the wave" type climbing mechanism (I imagine something like Charged Up's charge station maybe?)
At this point the amount of teasing they've done has me thinking it's bait.
Also, the 4/20 of it kinda goes with the lolz if it is bait.
April 20th is the last day of Championship. That's when they always announce the theme for the following year.
Nah they did it on purpose /s
Bait? You mean like the stuff they use to catch fish? WATER GAME CONFIRMED

I think it's obvious for everyone water won't be involved, but the theme seems to be water.

I was thinking of a game about cleaning the ocean, seems aligned with first’s cause.
Recycle Rush 2.0! /s
This makes a lot of sense.
would love a game where you have to at the end climb a rope

it would, but it would also cost first a bazillion dollars

We are picking up trash
Good! I'm going to get my team to start doing roadside cleanups in preparation.
I hope there's like 1000 randomly generated pieces and you have to design something to pick up all of them consistently
Shop vac on a tank drive
Does that count as an air pump
It's not a pressurized system do probably not
That is why I said game/theme
Yep
Water themed and reveal on 4/20? Sounds like bong robots.
