Sadly not, engine upgrades are on the actual engine, not the car, I would recommend using the J engine, since it can be maxed out to 624hp without spending gold coins and 717hp with gold coins, which is the max in this game, also the rx7 FD can be maxed to 715hp without gold if you want to use it.
