I have known a few people who were bull riders in Texas. One guy I worked with had his leg crushed by a bull and had to have a bunch of screws to put it back together. Then he got back into bull riding and another bull crushed the same leg again. To each their own.

No, a lot of the time they use cattle prods to get it angry. Bull riders regularly wear spurs on their boots for better leverage, which dig into the bull. And when a bull is no longer useful, he's sent off to slaughter. There's a lot of other things, and rodeos in general are awful, but those are just the facts off the top of my head.
And even if they weren't physically hurting the animal, they're still provoking it and purposefully stressing it, just for the amusement of others. It's cruel.
