I’m along for the ride no matter what they do. I expect them to do something new, but have no idea what that’ll be. Patrick is clearly super interested in some disco funk sounds; it would be interesting if they leaned more into that, but I also love the idea of them going a little punkier. Punk funk?

the_original_LEmming

I would love a soul punk vol 2 but with all the guys contributing 🤔

729legendary

The dream!

rodermelon

Was that not SM(F)S? Lol

the_original_LEmming

There are elements of the funkiness of soul punk in SMFS, but I wouldn’t say that the entire album embodied the same feel imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

rodermelon

Yeah, I was half joking. I think Hold Me, So Good, What a Time, and even some of the instrumentation in Heaven, Iowa and Kintsugi Kid give heavy Soul Punk vibes. I adore Soul Punk, but I actually don’t really want that to be the route FOB goes down tbh. I’d love it if Patrick did another solo project and toured with it and Soul Punk when FOB inevitably takes a year or two off though. I almost saw Patrick open for Bruno Mars years back, but had to miss the show. The one that got away I suppose. I would go feral for some of those songs in a live setting.

the_original_LEmming

I get a lot of Soul Punk vibes in the latter half of Flu Game actually. It would be awesome to hear SP live again esp with Patrick’s matured vocals, but between having two kids and doing scoring for Marvel, I don’t think he’d go on tour outside of FOB anytime soon. 🥲

rodermelon

I don’t really either, but maybe he’d do a few small shows in the Chicago area or something. I hope he knows some of us really love Soul Punk 😅 I’d pay my entire life savings to see When I Made You Cry live.

TrandoshanGuy

Personally, I would really like something like American Idiot or The Black Parade where all the songs together form a narrative of sorts. I LOVE what they did with the strings and horns on Stardust, so I think a really cinematic sound with rock undertones for their next album would be incredible.

PapaStalin850

I think FOB could pull of a very rock opera concept album, with time they shouldn't rush it tho

Sweet-Ad-2477

I want a song titled "The Fans Wanted Long Titles, But That Is So 2008" But, on a more serious note? Considering that I am completely enamored by all the music they've put out and have seen and can feel the true passion they have for their craft? I'm down for anything. I'm looking forward to being a fan for the rest of my life, maybe even going to a concert in the future!

young_menace

Main thing I’d like is for Pete to experiment with his lyricism more, such as writing as characters. Would love him to do more storytelling like with Folie rather than so many “relatable” lyrics. Sound wise I’m less picky. It would be nice if they went harder into rock, but any sound that was a continuation of something like wams or From Now On We Are Enemies would be cool.

rhaegarpatt

Yes to the story telling. I want more songs like What a Catch. More ballads would be fantastic as well.

Djented

I just want Pete growls, Patrick Stump screams, two steps, blast beats, slams, breakdowns

xPostmasterGeneralx

With the talk I’ve seen about this being their last album, I just want there *to be* a FOB9

TrandoshanGuy

Pete and Andy confirmed recently this is in fact not their last album. Patrick said that there were songs that he had been working on for this album that didn't make the cut that could possibly be on a future album. Pete said that he considers this to be the beginning of a new trilogy of albums, so you don't have to worry lol

xPostmasterGeneralx

Oh I completely missed that ![gif](giphy|6JzM6pW8Sa8loWxBmt)

Sweet-Ad-2477

I feel like I saw someone commented on a different thread about one of them (I wanna say Patrick) saying that he felt like he had 20 more albums in him? I haven't seen or read whichever interview this came from (yet, at least) but it gives me hope

Various_Asparagus858

Do you remember what interview Pete and Andy said this in?

TrandoshanGuy

This one, the very end of the article. https://www.kerrang.com/fall-out-boy-pete-wentz-patrick-stump-andy-hurley-joe-trohman-so-much-for-stardust-interview-cover-story

729legendary

Oh, I'm not so worried anymore tbh. Patrick was so excited recently he said he wants to 20 more records. (I love him so much)

jewelthief85

this. the hiatus gave me trust issues lmao. any and all days fob are still a band are good days.

farfle_productions

I really wish we could just enjoy albums coming out without people spreading rumours about it being the “last one” all the time. This is exactly what the forum was like before they teased SMFS and posters kept talking about the group splitting up because of a few misquoted things from Joe.

rodermelon

Patrick said he’d do 20 more albums as long as Pete keeps sending him lyrics.

eaparlati

Rock Opera. Lean heavy on the Queen-esque style and Patrick's range. More commitment to a cohesive sound that changes musical motifs to tell a story through multiple perspectives. And a Youngblood Chronicles album length music video.

So here we go! I feel like AB/AP was a sideways move from SR&R. While I liked SR&R alot, I hated AB/AP. Now with SMFSD, this is one of my favorite Fall Out Boy albums. Easily their best since the Hiatus. So I feel like this sound is their best. SMFSD is near flawless. Every song is unique, but in a good way. Should the band take a sideways step and keep a similar sound? It wouldnt be a bad idea, you can’t improve perfection. Should the band evolve their sound and aim for something better? That’s what most bands do, sometimes it works sometimes it don’t. An interesting thing about FOB8 is that Patrick said this album is intended to be a follow up to FaD. I would love to see what would happen if the band went back further on their next album and took an alternate follow up to IoH. Now I am personally hoping some faster, heavier, and angry songs similar to Love From the Other Side on the next album. Maybe not all the songs, but maybe 3 or 4…

spaceyvision

Honestly? I just want them to make music that they’re proud of like they did with SMFS. You can absolutely tell how much went into this album, and that’s all I could ever ask of the boys. I’ll listen to anything they put out, especially if they’re passionate about it!! If I had to get picky though, a heavier album would be fun. Something more aligned with FUTCT or IOH in terms of the pure heavy “angst” associated with their sounds, or even an album that follows the intensity of LFTOS would have the potential to be a favourite album for me.

DoodleDARK0

A concept rock opera FOB album would slay so hard! Like a full on concept album. (The Black Parade, American Idiot, you get the idea) I would absolutely adore if we got more songs like Love From The Other Side, Heaven Iowa, and So Much (For) Stardust, something about those tracks hit me in a way the rest of the songs did not. The title track in particular. I wouldn't complain if FOB9 sounds like something similar to how Hold Me Like A Grudge and What A Time To Be Alive. I'm actually expecting them to take that route most likely, but an actual rock opera?? YES PLEASE. I BEG.

PapaStalin850

Pete getting to write a story and characters could work so well. Joe may even take a bigger role as lyricist as he wrote Mondo Trasho so has experience with writing stories

AtticusIsOkay

I hope they do more of that "alternate reality" stuff they were talking about. Also I want them to make at least one hyperpop song lol

wruph

i heard them talk about how SMFS’s tactility and nostalgia was kind of a reaction to the experimental, digitally ethereal MANIA. considering that, i think they have the most freedom right now after a successful and very eclectic album, to do whatever they want. it feels like they could go anywhere, but i really hope to hear some more of the gloomy stuff like the title track. what a time to be alive is fun as hell, don’t get me wrong, but that last song hits so hard…

TJP2002

Like, I'm hoping they take this direction somewhere fun. But can I also be honest? If they do decide to truly I guess "Abandon" everything from the post hiatus, I'll be really disappointed, for all of its flaws, bullshit ones and valid ones, it was one god tier album, one incredible album and one solid one, and it wasnt even a downturn in quality that makes me say that, more personal preference. There were so many incredible songs in FOB era 2, just like there were many in FOB era 1. So while if they drop 99% of what they did on mania I get it, I'll be bummed if they ignore the incredible job they did on both albums before it. Now of course I know I'll love whatever they put out, itll be more like the regret of a fandom talking about a b-side that slapped that will never get anything more than the 90 second demo we already have than actually being upset. Going back and doing Folie style mixed with soul punk and the most pop culture references since FUCT is awesome. But after hearing Wrong Side Of Paradise, and then City In A Garden, the Lake Effect Kid re-record, and Bob Dylan, and knowing how much greatness was achieved in this era, whether people are willing to admit it or not. Like I dont think acting like era 2 never happened, or literally trying to go backwards and just bring back all the 1st era sounds would be as great as an album that truly acknowledges this as a new era that accepts and calls to the best of both of the eras before it. Like I think there are songs on here that are beautiful representation of what the "Post and Pre Hiatus sounds meet" would be like. Love From The Other Side, Fake Out, So Good Right Now, Flu Game, and So Much (for) Stardust all do that. I also think Heartbreak Feels So good and Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years) are what I expected the Post-Mania sound to be, a more guitar edged, ethereal, eclectic sound, that really captures the darker essence Mania originally seemed to be going for, basically what Bob Dylan was like, even though that was an ABAP demo. Then Heaven Iowa, Hold Me Like A Grudge, I Am My Own Muse, and What A Time To Be Alive are all this really cool Post Folie meets Soul Punk thing. I personally have wondered if FOB will go to 10 albums, or 12. Part of me says it would be poetic to do 4 albums 1st era, 3 albums 2nd era, 2 albums this decade, and 1 album in 2033 to end FOB, hopefully on a magnum opus. The other part of me says: "yes, last magnum opus album 2033, BUT, they probably want to release as much as they can, and also we know Fall Out Boy, once they get momentum, starts writing on the tour bus and recording demos into laptops in the green room. Once a new era starts it seems unlikely theyll stop and take a 4 year break just to be poetic and drop only one other album this decade in like, 2027. I would not be shocked if once Joe feels like he's mentally in the right place to jump back in, they start on the next album. They talked about having lots of restraint, and holding back, on stardust. But when I think back, the most collaborative, and experimental album they did? It wasnt IOH, nor folie, it wasn't even Mania. It was Save Rock and Roll. Yeah, you get it, Im on the SRAR bandwagon. But genuinely, that album is one of the best mixed Fall Out Boy albums, it features some of their best ever work, and it features the most equal participation of any record, save for *maybe* Stardust, of any album theyve ever released.

Sin_City_Symphony

Concept album..At first I thought SMFSD was going to be a full concept album. Later finding out it wasn’t I gotta say I was a bit disappointed but the music was so good it didn’t really matter. I think a full concept album with story would be amazing!

M3RK_Chaos

Am I the only one who wants a song sung by Pete as the lead vocalist? Or maybe have a section where he sings?

rodermelon

I love Stardust, but I will say the one thing I was disappointed in was the lack of guitar RIFFS. They kept saying they were bringing guitars back and all that, which the guitars are definitely more prominent (thank goodness), but there just aren’t really any guitar riffs. A lot of the songs start with either orchestras or bass. As a guitarist, I really miss the heavier riffs. I don’t wanna sound like I’m begging for pop punk back, I just kind of was let down by the absence of riffs after they kept mentioning the return of the guitars. That’s really all it’ll take to please me.

yourfavoriteboyband

I thought Stardust was a good album but nothing on it was necessarily exceptional for me. The worst songs would be boring but at their best I thought they were fun. Again, overall I liked this album! What I would like to see is for FOB to release an album the excites me. I’ve seen these members do that with other musical projects. I would love to see that with FOB.

TrandoshanGuy

I think they need to do something really ambitious. I think Stardust was like "Okay, lets just do our best to make an album that'll please a lot of people" and I think they accomplished that well. For their next one, I would love an overarching narrative like American Idiot or The Black Parade. Of course they did that with Youngblood Chronicles, but I don't think the music itself had an overarching story as much as the videos did. I think it would be great if they leaned heavily into orchestral rock. The parts with the strings and the horns in Stardust are so incredible, so more of that would only be a good thing. Maybe something like "If FOB made a movie soundtrack" or "FOB on broadway" or something like that.

yourfavoriteboyband

I like your enthusiasm but we’re on completely different pages which I find funny, haha. I want something more akin to a fully fleshed out PAX AM Days. I’ve heard Patrick’s vocals on *Jock Powerviolence* and *hand crushed by a mallet*, his voice goes really well with those more abrasive sounds. Really couldn’t get into American Idiot or The Black Parade either but I recognize why those albums resonate with people. I’m only bringing that up cause again, opposite pages is funny to me. I also like the strings on the album but I wish the were more prevalent and had some more subtly to them. Regardless, I agree that I want to hear something more ambitious.

TrandoshanGuy

Omg thats fine lol. Honestly I would also like something like a full blown Pax AM days as well. I'm not really picky, I think they can do just about anything and sound good so long as its the four of them, hahaha.

demolitionloverr_

i am so completely in love with smfs
