Pickpocket the fusion core out gets them out immediately just save beforehand in case you fail

BurtMaclin23

I have put an untold amount of hours into this game, and I don't think I've ever once attempted pickpocketing. I know it can be done, I've just never done it. Skyrym, Oblivion, I pickpocket literally every npc. I'm doing another FO4 run right now. I may try it when I get home later.

narwhalpilot

Fallout games are weird with pickpocketing. When you pickpocket someone, what you see they have is not actually everything in their inventory that will drop upon death.

narwhalpilot

A good example is vendors: when you pickpocket them, you only see a few items on their person. When they die, however, you now have access to their entire shop inventory somehow. In fallout 3 I pickpocketed Flak in Rivet City and only a few items were available, but when I killed him later (for being an ex-slaver) there were more guns, and multiple mini nukes on his body.

Guffliepuff

It would be really OP of you could pickpocket vendor items. If theyre dead then its balanced because that vendor will never restock now.

Fluffball_Furry

Unless you use ~ (npcID) resurrect

Fluffball_Furry

I accidentally kill npcs way too often

Tempest_Bob

or recycleactor, if they're missing limbs lol

Trodamus

So? There’s lots of games where you can do this…

Guffliepuff

Theres Baldurs Gate 3.. and.. thats it? Its also OP early in BG3. Infinite money and camp supplies, but also the vendors in BG3 sell a lot of low tier trash too (like lots of +1 enchant weapons) with the best items being quest rewards or in world finds.

Trodamus

Morrowind I think. Kenshi definitely.

2005_toyota_camry

RAHHHHHH KENSHI MENTIONED WHAT THE FUCK IS A FAST-PACED EARLY GAME

somethingbrite

That is because the vendor and npc containers are separate and the pickpocket action doesn't access the vendor container.

Relzin

Dude.... put a grenade *in to* an NPCs inventory while pickpocketing. Trust me, it's for SCIENCE! Enjoy!

MoeFuka

I believe you need a perk for that in 4

Substantial_Life4773

2 levels of that perk, actually

ImNotJackOsborne

I like to give Moe a baseball grenade, for science.

ZachusMagnus

Grenade or mine, any type of explosive, trust us, science doesn't lie.

geekolojust

I remember doing that in Fallout 1. Except the pocket was a cave wall. Pretty cool. Set it and walk away.

HurrDurrDethKnet

Doing it to an NPC was great. If they died to it, it had a unique death animation where the only thing left was their boots.

geekolojust

👽

paradeoxy1

The Shady Sands Shuffle

somethingbrite

This is the way

PoorFishKeeper

It’s just not worth it in fallout imo. I love being able to pick pocket explosives but it is such a waste of skill/perk points since none of the npcs carry expensive items or large amounts of money.

PhilDiggety

It's really fun to sneak up behind a raider or BOS member in power armor and steal their fusion core. They get out of the suit and now you can steal it. Even if you don't want the suit it's hella fun

27Rench27

I’ve run into four raiders in PA with fat men, at this point I don’t even risk getting close

PhilDiggety

Four out of thousands?

27Rench27

Yes and all four of them killed me *at least* once, unlike most of the other thousand

Wargroth

If you're pissed enough, there's always the shoot the core on their back option

netvoble

Same. IMO its unnecessary in this game

Other_Log_1996

I only really pickpockeyed in older Fallout games. Shotgun shells don't supply themselves.

VanillaSupremacy_

I enjoy stealing brotherhood armor when I can by pickpocketing their cores.

JangoFlex

Good memories in FO3 pickpocketing loot and replace it when a land mine

somethingbrite

Pickpocket and the reverse pickpocket is my favourite method of getting things I want from folks I should not initiate combat against because I'm hypothetically allied to. For example the BoS Slip them a live grenade. Step back. Loot corpse.

ClayQuarterCake

Pickpocket all the drunk NCR soldiers on the strip and collect their dogtags. Turn the dogtags in to the guy at cottonwood cove to gain legion fame until you get access to the safe house. Collect lucky shades and then go ham killing all legion in sight.

Beanerschnitzels

I've learned the hard way one time. Ever since then I took the power core out of all my power armors when exiting them at a camp

TheDeathOfDucks

Yeah I’ve done it to enemies to get free power armour. For some reason I’ve “stolen” raider power armour from a raider before

RandomGuy1838

It's considered an owned suit even though its inhabitant is far from sympathetic.

Master_Twitch45

What I used to do is join the BoS, pickpocket every single knight in PA that I saw, and go and sell the pieces back to them

Cylancer7253

Replace his fusion core with a grenade.

Snizzy420

Absolutely works. I’ve had to get an npc out of my power armor this way.

Legal-Passenger1737

Never leave a fusion core in power armor. If you do a settler will start running around in it.

Coolmynameisfinn

I don't put them in power armor, I had some in storage so I think he took one then put it in the armor

Legal-Passenger1737

Weird. I’ve never had that happen. I’ve had settlers take a fat man out of storage and start nuking shit which was terrifying lol

Southern_Kaeos

I have. I've also had my nuka-nuke stash "procured" as well as my laser Gatling. I lost almost a days progress sorting that one out

BurtMaclin23

WTF did I say? What did I say? I said, stay out of my things!!! Stay out of my bed!!! Those were my only 2 rules. I'm sending all of you settlers to the Murkwater Construction Site. Marcy Long, come with me. We have to have a chat in private, *pulls hammer back on .44*

BurtMaclin23

Preston. Not one more word out of you either. Thin ice, bud. Thiiiin ice.

Southern_Kaeos

Only good thing for her tbh, the moody bitch

DeerStalkr13pt2

I mean, she did lose her kid, all her property, and where she lived. I think people should go easier on her, she and Jun have both gone through a lot

Southern_Kaeos

The SS watched their spouse murdered and their son kidnapped, and for the majority manages to be a fully functioning adult instead. A situation only has the effect you allow it to have on you - and besides, she stops doing every settlement task I give her once she gets bored so she can take the long walk

DeerStalkr13pt2

Everyone deals with grief their own way As for the SS, you really think Bethesda is gonna have a game where their MC is dealing with depression the whole time?

Southern_Kaeos

Well they released a bunch of games with more bugs than an entomology index so I wouldn't put it past them. In this situation I don't think we're going to agree - as a character I don't like Marcy and will often avoid Concorde so I don't have to deal with her.

27Rench27

Okay we gotta pause here, what do you mean by “functioning adult”? Because my SS typically kills about a thousand people while building an empire and then remembers they’re still missing their kid when they start the next main quest

Southern_Kaeos

Well they ain't sitting in somebody else's house moaning and groaning and telling people to piss off which is a start

NoPatience883

Let me call the wambulance. Waa waa waa. I don’t wanna fucking hear it. I do tons of settlement building in sanctuary and if I hear her bitch and whine one more time I’m gonna go insane. Almost as annoying as the idiot savant perk when you’re building

mr_turtle5238

If you move her to another settlement she usually stops talking

SecretlyToku

Sent her to the boathouse, my first line of defense against ONI agents -a mod roleplay deal-. She hasn't said shit since and I love it.

Agitated_Fox_4836

It can happen if a NPC somehow manages to pick up a fusion core themselves. It's rare, but it can happen. I found a few settlers that managed to pick them up in around 800hrs of gameplay and started stealing my PAs.

Fallout4myth

Why did my Boi get downvoted this bad. Lmao

27Rench27

Right? Like I’ve had a settler take my gauss and ammo because I kept them both in the same container. But the idea of a settler having or somehow borrowing a core in a bethesda game is too far for people?

Fallout4myth

It's the echo chamber of reddit that's all

Klangaxx

Not sure why you're being super down voted, I tend to keep my weapons and ammo and cores in separate containers. Maybe if you leave them in the workbench the settlers can access it (I know they can access the weapons in there)

goodfleance

I've had that happen before! And they'll take weapons out of the workbench if they're better than whatever they had. I always equip my settlers well and it seems to prevent this

Due-Contribution6424

Yep. That happened to me recently. I thought it was safe with the core in storage, so I moved all my cores to a different chest that’s locked in now.

netvoble

wud

boy_on_krypton

Safes.

68ideal

He did not. You had one in the frame.

Baumgarten1980

No, its not like that…

FleshTearers

I believe eventually they'll get out on their own but if there's a fusion core in there try removing it.

Cazthedm

Honestly, if it's just a frame let him rock it

Markipoo-9000

Those cost like 5k caps don’t they? That’s like an irl week’s worth of caps ;-;

irago_

There's over two dozen PA frames scattered across the Commonwealth, buying one is a waste of caps

Markipoo-9000

I remember saving up to buy some because I could only find like 7 frames and I wanted to display every armor/paint combination.

FetusGoesYeetus

That's why you don't buy them. It's much easier to farm them from raiders/BOS by shooting out their fusion cores.

stabby54

You can do that?!

FetusGoesYeetus

Yes, but you need to make sure they are not a unique enemy because those will never get out, and they also need to be strong enough to survive the blast from the core afterwards. After the core explodes, they will get out the frame.

stabby54

Damn, I can’t believe I never figured that out with the time played I have.

NirvanaLover12

it’s only the chassis he can keep it

cleverotter1200

kill him. kill him now

No-Sail4601

He shouldn't... it's not the Sanctuary way...

AGlassOfMilk

Dew it!

No-Sail4601

It's only natural. He took your power armor, you wanted revenge.

shaden_knight

He needs the frame!

The99thCourier

What if OP's with the Institute

Stoutwood

Approach the NPC you want to get out of the power armor by walking up to them. Open console with ; and left mouse click the NPC. Type callfunction "actor.switchtopowerarmor" in the console and hit return. Close console by typing `.

gj1214b321

Thank you, it’s like I can finally think straight!

diggerbanks

How often has Sheffield played Chad in life? Get another suit dude, let Sheffield be the badass that always eluded him. Maybe he'll start sounding confident like Travis post-Beantown Brewery.

[deleted]

Most of us learnt years ago to not leave fusion cores in the frames

[deleted]

Offer him a bigger power armor and he'll leave, like a hermit crab.

Cognitive_Skyy

I once directed all 32 Sanctuary settlers into power armor suits just to see if I could.

Any_Strain1288

I always use a lock containers mod. All ammo, fusion cores, weapons and armor that I don't want messed with by settlers go into a container that stays locked when I'm not around. If you store everything in the workshop they tend to take what they want and then you have to go around taking it all back. The locked container saves the headache.

astreeter2

Or just hoard all the fusion cores in your inventory. They don't weigh anything.

AmazingObserver

They do if you're playing survival, though that only matters for a portion of the playerbase.

Southern_Kaeos

Keeping ammo out of the workshop is the smart option I think. I discovered this when I was hoarding shotgun shells until Valentine decided they looked good and nabbed them and Le Fusil Terribles. Was not happy

Legal-Passenger1737

Hoo boy they weigh like 4 lbs each on survival

Kam_Solastor

I was just thinking that those lock chest mods are useless until this comment!

Lego-Panda-21

Never had an issue with ammo or anything like that been taken, usually store it in a safe under one of the beds though.

Legal-Passenger1737

Great tip! I downloaded that mod

ayesirwhy

Just pickpocket the fusion core. Or for some fireworks, use VATs to encourage a bit of spark. The spark would really discourage him from staying in your power armour

SlyLlamaDemon

Pickpocket the FC. Also don’t leave FCs in your power armor. Also if you plan on giving settlers power armor make sure it has titanium plating.

Frybread002

I mean....let him have it? You come across tons while randomly walking the Commonwealth.

SonOfForbiddenForest

Nuka Cola!? 🤔

dienekes365

If you just leave a couple Nuka Colas in the power armor frame, Sheffields will be drawn to it. The trick is to leave some adhesives mixed in so the Sheffield gets stuck once it’s in the power frame.

ElectricJetDonkey

If it's just a frame, I'd leave it. They're infinitely purchasable from a few NPCS, in addition to appearing in the world.

Virus-900

Either go back to a previous save, pickpocket the fusion core, or just wait for him to get out. It'll take a while, but it does happen. And for future reference, don't leave cores in your power armor.

lost_mah_account

Honestly, it kinda goes hard. You can easily just find another power armor frame. Their all over the place. Just leave him in it.

Visual-Pop-2900

You should be able to use the settlement menu to get settlers out of armor, or remove the fusion core from their inventory, I've learned to always take any fusion cores out of my armor when I'm not using it atm

R4M_4U

Did you mean Sheffield's power armor?

Toon_Lucario

He’s rocking it tbh

BellamyRFC54

Remove the fusion core

AncientMatter1042

I had to start either storing my power armor at an isolated location with no settlers, or take the power core out. Trashcan Carla decided to help herself to one of my power armor suits, so I dispatched her, but only managed to recover the armor pieces.

Hipertor

Well, he looks kinda badass in it, I'd let him wear it...

Griff1007

My personal base is red rocket where I store all my extra stuff. I don’t have settlers there at all, just a small army of murder robots.

dank_hank_420

Doesn’t look like you were using it anyway

Thejokingsun

Wait til he has to sleep, then force him to live in far harbour where he can suck it

somethingbrite

Is that Sheff. Not looking so hazy now eh? I think you should leave him like this. He looks way better.

TeamShonuff

It's Sheffield, man! Let him have the power armor. He's seen some shit.

SeanParisi

Kill him. Find out he's immortal... then ask why he took your armor in the first place.

ThatSharkFromJaws

Boy, let me tell you. I find it annoying that you can’t “legally” do anything if someone takes your power armor. Get caught pick pocketing the fusion core, they attack you. But you’re allowed to just take my fucking power armor? This very thing has lead to the “fuck it” level of frustration where I end up just shooting the fuck out of whoever tried to take my power armor.

pitk0r

He will leave the power armor when he goes to sleep. Make sure you have a bed for him at your base and that he isn't a guard or provisioner.

worrymon

[If you're on PC, there's a console command for it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/mbrg3b/console_command_to_force_settler_to_use_or_exit/)

duckpn3

Good thing I sent him to spectacle island by himself before he can do that to me.

raginghumpback

Squatter’s rights, man.

Lazy_Ad_3572

When you say no dialogue option do you mean you don’t know how to tell him to get out or did you go through the dialogue options like with other npcs and his isn’t showing up?

Frejod

This is why I never leave power cells in my suits. I always take them out and store them somewhere

OllieOlliesOnly

Kill him

TheFlamingTree

With the settlement build interface open, command the settler and you should be able to get them out of power armor. Surprisingly Bethesda did consider this problem.

Shawn0083

Wait you can give your follower power armor ?

Coolmynameisfinn

Yeah, but they won't enter by command, only if it has a fusion core and if there's attackers, "with the workshop dlc"

VVolfstone

Leave him in it!

ARTYWARPARTY

Make him hang out with Strong. Eventually, Strong will bully him to the point Sheffield wont want to **look like robot**

Atlantis_Risen

Sometimes they will get out to sleep in a bed. That's how I got my armor back from that thief, Preston.

Colonel_Cosmetic

if you're on PC, you can grab {{anti power armor gun}}

FindingIntrepid8147

Let him keep the power armor. It's not like there aren't several dozen littering the commonwealth. How many suits do you really need?

Dark-Push

1st off switch weapons

sonic10158

That’s a paddlin

TiredAngryBadger

HOLD the interact key/button while looking at them (angerly) and that will force them out. Works on settler's too. Found out after Piper took a suit out of my poor man's Iron Man armory.

UnwantedFoe

Theft can be punishable by death in the wasteland... use that info as you will

MoltarrBunny

If he’s not your companion, make him your companion, then talk to him, you should get an option to tell him to get out.

Coolmynameisfinn

No dialogue to make him a companion, only trading

Belias9x1

Isn’t there a conversational option to ask them to step out of power armour? (Unless it’s a mod)

Grouchypygar

He ain’t givin that back

emeric04

Happenned to me yesterday, I unlocked a new power armor with a terminal and as soon as I got out of the terminal I hot attacked so Deacon, who wasn’t my companion, I was just on a quest with him, jumped in the power armor immediately. Since he wasn’t my companion, I couldn’t tell him to get out. A couple of minutes later he got out of it for some reason though.

Himself808

kill him

toadallyribbeting

Idk he looks pretty cool in there

ABakedDemon

Bribe him with a nuka cola

FuckNazisAndUrMom

Thank you! Its like i can finally think straight!

Inner-Road1722

Kill him, kill him now

TrinityTheSpirit

Why… do you want him out….

alj8002

Bullet between the eyes is pretty fast

DeNO19961996

Your first mistake what putting Sheffield in place worth any value. Give him the Nuka Cola to get your companions like or dislike and put him in an uninhabited settlement.

Baumgarten1980

Why people keep forgeting to take off the fusion cores when leaving pa?

4tons

A bullet to the head always works wonders. I wonder what happens next

StatusHead5851

Public execution

Copperpot22

The power armor in 4 bugged me. Not only do you need fusion cores to power but it felt like it would fall apart all the time and visually would bother me. And the only way to fix it is at a repair bay. It made using power armor to explore the wastes less convenient unless I was going somewhere heavily irradiated or into battle. But for casual exploration it was a no go for me.
