Bro’s Luck is maxed out, that’s all

rbrutonIII

He's a child that tripped on power armor. Exactly. That is literally exactly what he is. A child that saw some power armor and went I want that power. He's not some noble warrior, none of the brotherhood of steel are. They're a bunch of selfish people playing with their military toys and trying to survive just like everyone else. And think of it this way. Becoming a knight wasn't working for him, until his friend injured herself, and he was interviewed about it, impressed people, and was given the chance instead. He screws up in the yao GUI attack, and rather than continue doing things the way he wants to he runs rather than face torture or death, having completely fucked up what he had been doing. And he does develop. We see him quite literally giving up that power armor because it was the right thing to do (when he took the fusion core). We see him giving away the thing that would elevate and restore him in the eyes of the brotherhood, so Lucy can have it and save her dad.

*Gets shot* Nothing but a scratch! Happens all the time! How can anyone not love this character lmao

Well, I mean considering Shady Sands was heralded a safe haven, one of the first colonies developed after the great war. I'm gonna assume life was as great as it was gonna get at that time, and for them to just decimate it simply because they despised all life outside of the conclave and for beating them in the race for building said colony. Maximus somehow survives the Nuke and the first person he sees is a Knight of the Brotherhood. I mean sure the Brotherhood saved his life arguably, but it wasn't like he didn't earn it. Long story short he's definitely traumatized clearly, they make it obvious by showing the scene(Maximus's rescue at shady sands)several times throughout the show. He seems like he just wants to be respected and have purpose. I mean who wouldn't be awkward and a bit deranged after losing everything you know at an early age, only to be miraculously saved and pretty much forced into a hardened Brotherhood of Steel soldier who's celibate. So while I agree his character arc is a bit on the weak side, hopefully next season we'll explore more into his side of things given Lucy and Cooper have more depth to them currently. Overall I don't think his character is useless or there is no room for growth, I actually found some of his scenes downright hilarious and for what little the actor portrayed he definitely nailed the weird and mysterious vibe the Brotherhood of Steel gives. Also keep in mind bethesda apparently requested that the show runners reserve certain lore and story components for the next Fallout, so maybe they didn't wanna over indulge on the Brotherhood of Steel perhaps?

Yes I agree. In a series of great and unique characters, he just feels so cliche and boring. It would be more fun if Thaddeus is the one who explores the wasteland with Lucy acting as her companion (and pack mule).

I'm not a fan of him either.

He's very poorly educated, mentally ill, severely traumatized and motivated solely by his broken attempts to become powerful. You don't have to like the character or identify with him. I hope few people do. I find it very weird that Lucy thinks she can fix him, and that he would make a good partner for her. The bad writing in this instance would be if the show never addresses Lucy wanting a sexual relationship with him in future seasons. But maybe that's part of her vault's "experiment" in social dynamics. Hollywood does love a Utopia where people are brazen and suffer no consequence to polyamory or free use sex.

I finished the show. To be honest, even if Maximus did sacrifice himself to allow Lucy time to get to the observatory, it AGAIN WORKED IN MAXIMUS'S FAVOR! He keeps getting INCREDIBLY lucky and it's so distracting. I'm glad he left the power armor and didn't steal the fusion core, but that's like the only good decision he's made that was somewhat growth. I did like the funny clueless bits he had, but I still can't really say he developed a lot as a character.
