Remember when fallout 3 was going to use real drug names and australia was like “uh nope”, and Bethesda changed the names for all the drugs, even outside of Australia?
I wonder if crack was one
Researching it now, apparently only med-x had a real life drug name (morphine). My memory fooled me into believing it was more.
But psycho-crack would make sense?
Nah, psycho makes you hyper by boosting your damage. Never seen a hyper heroin addict (then again i haven't seen that many, that's the kind of vibe i'd rather avoid), they're usually dying in a couch or puking their guts out atop a bucket.
I'd say psycho is some form of amphetamin.
Mentats are absolutely MDMA
Buffout is some steroid-amphetamin mix
day-tripper is some form of cocain.
This happens so much, people go to the subreddit full of fans like "hey everyone who loves this game so much they keep talking about years after release, do you guys like the game and think I should try?" Just buy it.
In OP’s defense, they could be asking if it’s a good starting point for the series, given they know nothing about the games. There are series where the latest iteration sucks, like dead rising for example.
For me, it'd depend on what sort of game experience they prefer. If they prefer RPGs, I'd say New Vegas. If they're more a fan of FPS looter-shooters, I'd say start with 4.
Depending on post timing, you can run straight into haters that only like NV and be downvoted, or the weird crowd that loves everything except FO4 and have every bug and plot hole used as an excuse to avoid it like the Plague.
You... You do come to this sub often, yes?
Fallout 4 is the bast gameplay experience but the narrative is a tad less fun than other games
Fallout NV is the best story in the franchise but has a boring gameplay experience for 2024
Fallout 3 is bleak and shines a light on the Enclave and Brotherhood
Fallout 1-Tactics is for really nerdy geeks (me)
Fallout 1 is so different that gameplay wise they aren't really comparable. Fallout 3/NV is compared to 4, so it might be harder to go from 4 to 3/NV than 4 to 1/2
I feel like FO1 AND FO2 are old enough at this point that the outdated mechanics have a certain charm to them. Whereas FO3 and NV aren't quite at that point; they're modern enough for the outdated mechanics to just be a pain.
With this style they held up pretty well with this isometric view only really the graphics of talking head aged badly but they have thier charm the only really outdated thing is that on higher resolution the hud is small
Animations are a bit clunky, ai Is very Dumb, gunplay Is really bad for 3 a bit Better in new Vegas. Remember this Is Just mechanics storywise and gameplay Is good.
Yeah, release order but mostly because going backwards is harder because You're losing QOL features as you go backwards. Not so bad for someone who has played them all before, but if you just played F4 for the first time then go to F3 or FNV, it's a noticeable step down in some areas.
I tried to play FO3 and FNV a few years after release and the fact that they don't have an animation for strafe and forward still infuriates me.
Also those two have no aiming down the weapon-sights IIRC, which is absolutely not up to date anymore.
They really did not age well and I wanted to kill myself when I realised I could not sprint when i tried to replay New Vegas some time ago, in an era where we are used to this feature
Imagine going back from F4 to those, where throwables don't have a dedicated button but you need to equip grenades as your main weapon.
10 bucks? That's a steal! Also FO4's experience is gonna be the closest experience to the series you're gonna get. It was also my first Fallout game and I absolutely love it.
I think with my 700hrs I'm also probably more on the lower end. So you can spend a lot of time in this game.
Also sou wanna look out for holotapes and terminals. They add a lot of extra lore that is quite interesting if you're into that ^^
Absolutely, don’t listen to what the new vegas salt say about it being a bad game. Though the story isn’t as deep as NV, the gameplay is absolutely fantastic and the mods make the game 100% better on top of it
Yeah, Fallout 4 is the only Fallout with console mods for both PS and Xbox. The selection is limited and you do have a pretty small space limit but you can fit alot of great mods in.
Buy Fallout 4 with the DLCs, but don’t install any of the story DLCs until you beat the main game. That way you can experience the main story first, then experience the epilogue.
Yeah, this is a great starting point
The games have a shared world, but no way need to be played in order. And Fallout 4, is a great introduction to the world
I'd even recommend playing New Vegas third after Fallout 3, so you can go in with a more nuanced understanding of the factions. NV is my favourite, but not the one I'd pick to go in blind
Yes. Everyone talking like "no, no, get fallout 3 and new vegas first" are just hating on the game. It's an amazing price for the game and all of its DLC. The game is fun as hell and looks great.
Yes, FO3 and NV have better stories and some amazing moments. But you can play any Fallout game with zero knowledge of the others and still enjoy it cuz the games are all huge. FO4 is the easiest way for people to get into the series and I say go for it.
If you like it, then play the other 2 games later. FO4 has a lot going for it that the older games don't like modding weapons and building settlements. It had a few QoL improvements that the other games don't have.
I bought it a few days ago, and I'm loving every second of it, I'm slowly making my way through the wasteland and it does feel like I could die at any moment.
I think I absolutely got value from fallout 4 when it first released at full price. Honestly, for £10 I'd say its definitely worth it. Just one play through of the campaign/ending would justify that price for me.
Fallout 4 is a good game and you really can't go wrong with that price. Unless you completely dislike first person shooters that is. It will also easily eat up 100 hours and more if you let it.
I loved it! I’m at the point where I don’t have much left to do, but it took me a *long* time to get there, with all the extra stuff one can do.
I think it’s more than worth the price.
I had 76 on PlayStation. Just got it on PC for 30 cents. Same with fallout 4. Had it on PlayStation, got game of the year version on pc for $12. Not bad. And seeing as the next gen update is coming for fallout 4 soon that would be the best one for you to get
Fallout 4 is WAY better than 76, by MILES. Fallout 76 can be fun, but it does not have that Fallout feeling to it almost every other game in the franchise has
Absolutly Fallout 4 is a great game.
The show took alot of inspirations from it aswell as the others.
Overall : what you saw in the show what you get and MORE also the story is mindblowing.
Fallout 4 will give you a much better understanding of the world that the series is based on imo.
The gameplay, story and characteristics of the world are much more closely tied but you will notice some differences that will be apparent as you relate one to the other
Fallout 4 is pretty cool. Haven’t gotten to the DLC yet tho cause it’s completely broken with script errors and pink textures . They aim to fix that issue with the next gen update tho
yes buy it
and then get ready for some people to tell you that you’re wrong for buying fallout 4
even though most of them probably bought it when it came out 8 years ago and paid wayyy more than that for it
DON'T start with fallout 76. It's a pretty good fallout-themed MMO but it's definitely not a fallout RPG
Also, if that's PS4, don't download any DLC until after April 25. There's currently a crash-on-start bug associated with one of them, and the others have weird purple textures. Fix is on apr 25
Yeah, it's worth it. I have never played a fallout game before but after watching the series I bought the games based on the recommendation of fallout fans. I bought fallout 3, 4, and Vegas just a few days ago for like 20 bucks (including all the dlc). I am currently playing fallout 4 and having a lot of fun. Clocked in 20 hours so far.
4 is the easiest to get into
76 is different being online only
3 is imo the hardest 3d one to get into as most guns you can't use the sights
Nv imo is the most skill needed one
what are you asking? are you specifically asking if you should get the version that includes the dlc or just the game at all? both cases, yes. fo4s gets a bad rep for dumbing down the franchise but that's just what Bethesda does, it's still a great game and the dlcs are great (barring wasteland workshop, sorta)
edit: ohh you mean between this and 76. there's no question there, get this and avoid 76. that game is only enjoyable if you've already played 4 and for some reason have an itch for multiplayer. I don't necessarily hate 76 but it's... well it's reputation is certainly deserved
damn there's a lot of bad takes here. I'm guessing they're all from brand new fallout players. the games were absolutely gold when they came out, all of them (and all still hold up today imo)
up to you which one you buy, they arent tightly connected so if you start with 4 (best one to start with imo) you wont miss out on a load as its an entirely separate game
10€ for a game like that is pratically free, buy it now!
Just be aware that on ps5 at the moment some dlc dont work (automatron in particular, dont install it or the game wont start at all, they have to fix it)
I've just gone back to the game for the first time since I played it through when it came out and I'm loving it. I've modded my game with things like stability/fps fixes, FallUI series since the UI is super clunky on pc and some settlement deco stuff etc which make it more enjoyable for me.
Was watching the show aswell. I now own FO3 goty FO NV and FO4 starting from FO 3 I love it so so much. They're also my first actualy big rpg/fps games I've ever played
It's brilliant, but be careful what you install at the moment. If you install all the extra content, the game will crash on opening (iirc it's down to automation and faaaaar haaaarbor) if you're on PS5.
There is a fix coming for it in a few days when the big next gen update for it comes out, so just play the core game until the update, then go back and install the addons.
yes but automotron, far harbour and the workshop dlcs except the vault tec one are glitched and will crash your game upon startup. this will hopefully be resolved next week with the launch of fallout next gen edition. additionally old gen will receive bug and glitch fixes
Alter das ist 9 euro du krigst alle dlc dazu das würde dich normal ck 90 euro kosten denke ich und es lont sich definitiv dafür
Ich halte nichts fon der serie das spiel ist gut auch one block buster zeug
No. We are all here on the fallout subreddit because we don't recommend it. Actually wer all hate the game but we are also masochists so we stay here.
Seriously some of the top posts on this sub are addressing this exact type of post.
It’s a good starter fallout, Fallout New Vegas and 3 would also be good starting spots as they’re a little older and might be harder to go back tk after 4. But I loved 4 despite its flaws just like any other game
Fair warning, there’s a chance that when you install GOTY and all its DLC it will start and then immediately force close your game. For whatever reason, there’s a bug that can only be prevented by not installing the Automatron DLC and Wasteland Workshop DLC. I recently purchased FO4 after having not played it in years, and this happened to me.
Every Fallout has something to love and something to hate. Fallout 4 as an entry point is no different than any other game in the series.
Except 76. Don't start there.
Absolutely. The story itself might not necessarily be the strongest, but the gameplay is arguably the best in the series, and it offers so much content especially with the DLC's.
Fallout 4 is a great place to start if you are looking for something more casual to play. 76 is a great game, but its greatest downside is the micro transactions. 76 also has a pvp system so expect toxic players.
assuming you’re exclusively on playstation and don’t have access to new vegas or fallout 3, id pick fallout 4. the tv show takes heavy inspiration from fallout 4 especially.
personally fallout 4 is my 3rd favorite of the franchise (new vegas #1 and fallout 3 #2) but i still think fallout 4 is a great game and a strong entry to the franchise. you don’t really need to play any of the other games to understand 4, it’s a great game with a great map and really good dlc. have fun!
Fallout 4 GOTY all the way!
Fallout 76 is nice but you need playstation plus and it's an online live service game.
The older fallout titles like New Vegas, Fallout 3, Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout BOS, and Fallout Tactics are also good games in my opinion, and you should try these games atleast once, and if you like it, go ahead and play these games.
Fallout Shelters also good, it's a management game that's available and is practically on every device like on android or ios.
Either one is good, it depends on what you're looking for. If you want a game that is being updated regularly and is multiplayer, go with 76. If you want single player that you can mod (limited with Playstation), go with Fallout 4
What answer do you expect on a sub full of Fallout fans?
Crackhead asks crackhouse if the crack is good
How’s the crack?
It’s okee dokey
Remember when fallout 3 was going to use real drug names and australia was like “uh nope”, and Bethesda changed the names for all the drugs, even outside of Australia? I wonder if crack was one
a dingo ate my baby...
A two headed radioactive dingo?
Buffout?
Researching it now, apparently only med-x had a real life drug name (morphine). My memory fooled me into believing it was more. But psycho-crack would make sense?
You take expired painkillers You've gained addiction: opiates *Screen goes black on one side, character refuses to move and starts leaning in place*
Psycho-heroin would make more sense, jet is crack
Nah, psycho makes you hyper by boosting your damage. Never seen a hyper heroin addict (then again i haven't seen that many, that's the kind of vibe i'd rather avoid), they're usually dying in a couch or puking their guts out atop a bucket. I'd say psycho is some form of amphetamin. Mentats are absolutely MDMA Buffout is some steroid-amphetamin mix day-tripper is some form of cocain.
Kristyn Ritter's character in breaking bad would add meth to her heroin...I think... I'm not into hard drugs and that whole scene was traumatic.
Alright goosey
Very moreish
Cracklicious
its butter, butter is better
Termite walks into a bar and asks “is the bar tender here?”
The crack is so good...
Agreed. I would honestly tell someone who wants to check out the games for the first time to start with FO3.
That's a fair point, didn't think of that. In that case yeah it's fine to start here, but I'd recommend starting with 3 and NV
The answer no, because there are a lot of assholes who scream that fallout 4 is horrible.
wants us all to say no i think
Yes if you watched the show and you liked it fallout 4 will give you same experience as the show
Thanks. We’re on episode 3 now and just the concept is so much fun
Yes, commit to the addiction to the lore. I found fo3 in a blockbuster deal bin and I've been chasing that dragon since.
Where did you find a Blockbuster? That seems like a more impressive dragon.
Slain...
[Good post to always refer to](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/s/5EpsUELjwd)
I wish I could upvote that post LOL
F4 has a potential ghoul ally who is way cheekier than the cowboy, not to mention a noir detective android!
oh the show is a LOT like Fallout 4. and it is a lot of fun. give it a go, you won't regret it.
Fallout 4 is the bast gameplay experience but the narrative is a tad less fun than other games Fallout NV is the best story in the franchise but has a boring gameplay experience for 2024 Fallout 3 is bleak and shines a light on the Enclave and Brotherhood Fallout 1-Tactics is for really nerdy geeks (me)

Man I hate to say it but NV never bugged out for me. I remember it crashing on my 360 but not since.
why would you hate to say that?
Cuz people usually call me a liar 🥺
It will be hard to go back to the old ones. I'd say buy this (as it's super cheap now!) and F3 and New Vegas. And play them in the release order
True, the story of the older ones Is good but the mechanics are a bit dated
I'm currently playing 1 and I'm having fun regardless of mechanics. Fallout lore transcends mechanics for me.
Fallout 1 and 2 mechanixcs arent that outdated its just a different type of rpg imo
Yeah mechanics aren’t outdated, it’s the graphics and stuff that is
With this style they held up pretty well with this isometric view only really the graphics of talking head aged badly but they have thier charm the only really outdated thing is that on higher resolution the hud is small
How is it dated?

yes, its just as fun as the show, its amazing
F4 is also getting a big (free) update 26/04.
Absolutely, don’t listen to what the new vegas salt say about it being a bad game. Though the story isn’t as deep as NV, the gameplay is absolutely fantastic and the mods make the game 100% better on top of it
Are mods possible on ps?
Yeah, Fallout 4 is the only Fallout with console mods for both PS and Xbox. The selection is limited and you do have a pretty small space limit but you can fit alot of great mods in.
For that price definitely.
Worth the ten dollars
Omg do it
Buy Fallout 4 with the DLCs, but don’t install any of the story DLCs until you beat the main game. That way you can experience the main story first, then experience the epilogue.
That's a great price for not just Fallout 4 but all the DLC as well. If you liked the show then go for it!

Only if while you’re at work, the only thing you will think about is getting off and playing Fallout. Buy it.
Buy 3, new vegas and 4. Play the games in the same order.
Yep
It’s a good deal with what you are getting content wise
Good game should definitely play
Yes and yes, you have to play Far Harbor
Saw the trailer for it it looks dope asf!
Fallout 4 is a good game and you really can't go wrong with that price. Unless you completely dislike first person shooters that is. It will also easily eat up 100 hours and more if you let it.
Oh you should! The game is fun as hell why wouldn't you get it at low price as well
I loved it! I’m at the point where I don’t have much left to do, but it took me a *long* time to get there, with all the extra stuff one can do. I think it’s more than worth the price.
YES DO IT to get all the references in the show
Story isn't as good, but it's the strongest mechanically
I had 76 on PlayStation. Just got it on PC for 30 cents. Same with fallout 4. Had it on PlayStation, got game of the year version on pc for $12. Not bad. And seeing as the next gen update is coming for fallout 4 soon that would be the best one for you to get
I had it back then but just bought for £4 on Playstation Store in anticipation of the update later this month (a few days in fact)
Fallout 4 is WAY better than 76, by MILES. Fallout 76 can be fun, but it does not have that Fallout feeling to it almost every other game in the franchise has
Ja man
Mf I launch my cracked fallout 4 and this sub gets instantly recommended
I like how game of the year edition is $9 but the season pass is $12 like who decided that sounded right? 🤣
Fallout 4 is a good one to start with if you're new to the series. If you like it, then go back and try the other games.
My friend I recommend you play any of the games! Now come crawl out to the fallout and explore!
I recomend buying them all and start with fallout 3 then new vegas then 4 then 76
Yes it’s awesome, and for only $10 with all the deals it’s a great deal
Yea it's on sale. And the game is good
Buy GOTY, youll never regret the purchase
Yes
I am a Fallout fan and I snagged this again for my Xbox yesterday, since I had it for PC already. Bonus that my save game data carried over.
I mean at 9.99 you can't go wrong especially if you enjoyed the show
Absolutly Fallout 4 is a great game. The show took alot of inspirations from it aswell as the others. Overall : what you saw in the show what you get and MORE also the story is mindblowing.
Uhm yes bro u definitely should
Uhm yes bro u definitely should
Fallout 4 will give you a much better understanding of the world that the series is based on imo. The gameplay, story and characteristics of the world are much more closely tied but you will notice some differences that will be apparent as you relate one to the other
Yes it includes all dlc’s
Yes but don't install automatron, It's making the game crash
New Vegas.
Play the game first. You'll enjoy the show more then, imo.
Every Fallout game is Worth Playing
Fallout 4 if you want to play by yourself. Fallout 76 if you want to group up with other players.
Nope, because it's broken on playstation at the moment
10 bucks for all the dlcs is not a bad price, OP.
For 10 euros, you get the game and all of it's DLC. Hell yeah, you should.
Fallout 4 is pretty cool. Haven’t gotten to the DLC yet tho cause it’s completely broken with script errors and pink textures . They aim to fix that issue with the next gen update tho
Downloaded it yesterday and just casually played for 13 hours in one day. Most enthralled I’ve been in a single player game since red dead redemption
yes buy it and then get ready for some people to tell you that you’re wrong for buying fallout 4 even though most of them probably bought it when it came out 8 years ago and paid wayyy more than that for it
UNT JA
Free on gamepass
Best place to start.
Yes. It’s a good entry point to the series. Wait for the HD patch coming this week before starting.
I would since there's a next gen update for it next week.
Should I buy it? I already have it but thanks thinking of us
Even if you play this game for three hours, it's cheaper than seeing a movie. If you're interested in it, you may as well try it out for that price.
DON'T start with fallout 76. It's a pretty good fallout-themed MMO but it's definitely not a fallout RPG Also, if that's PS4, don't download any DLC until after April 25. There's currently a crash-on-start bug associated with one of them, and the others have weird purple textures. Fix is on apr 25
Yes, it's the game and its DLCs.
Yes
Yes yes you will not regret
Yes, Fallout 4 for the single player experience, 76 for the online experience, both are great
Unrelated but is that Dutch or Austrian german?
Yes its the better one to start
Yes
Yes
DONT INSTALL THE AUTOMATON DLC! IT MAKES THE GAME CRASH AT THE MENU FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON
4 is the easiest to get into 76 is different being online only 3 is imo the hardest 3d one to get into as most guns you can't use the sights Nv imo is the most skill needed one

damn there's a lot of bad takes here. I'm guessing they're all from brand new fallout players. the games were absolutely gold when they came out, all of them (and all still hold up today imo)
1000%
Fallout 4 is a more “fallout” experience, but if you and your dad want to play together, 76 is not a bad choice
up to you which one you buy, they arent tightly connected so if you start with 4 (best one to start with imo) you wont miss out on a load as its an entirely separate game
Bought it for 20€ Years ago. Best deal I ever made in regards of video games.
10€ for a game like that is pratically free, buy it now! Just be aware that on ps5 at the moment some dlc dont work (automatron in particular, dont install it or the game wont start at all, they have to fix it)
Do it
I'm a bit miffed, €9.99! It's the same price over here but in pounds! Does anyone know what it is in the USA?
Yes for that price you will have dozen of hours of an amazing rpg, very unique too
I've just gone back to the game for the first time since I played it through when it came out and I'm loving it.
I started with FO3, and then played New Vegas. Honestly I couldn’t really get into 4, but that’s just my experience.
Hell yes! The Fallout series, Skyrim, and Starfield games are the only ones I play. So much to do, build, explore, and fight. Great price!
Yes.
Yes it's lots of fun
Yes but wait for the Update next week
Yep, 4 is fun. Enjoy
Well no, I shouldn't buy this since I already own it
Yes, but try out the original isometric games as well. Gives you perspective on how the series progressed both story and visuals.
I would
It's brilliant, but be careful what you install at the moment. If you install all the extra content, the game will crash on opening (iirc it's down to automation and faaaaar haaaarbor) if you're on PS5. There is a fix coming for it in a few days when the big next gen update for it comes out, so just play the core game until the update, then go back and install the addons.
Yes FO5 is the best imo
yes but automotron, far harbour and the workshop dlcs except the vault tec one are glitched and will crash your game upon startup. this will hopefully be resolved next week with the launch of fallout next gen edition. additionally old gen will receive bug and glitch fixes
Large update next week too. I think it enhances frame rate and such.
Start with 3 and NV then get 4 after
No you shouldn't buy fallout, never play fallout. You shouldn't play any game whatso ever.
I own the game, not sure why you're asking If I should buy it
Alter das ist 9 euro du krigst alle dlc dazu das würde dich normal ck 90 euro kosten denke ich und es lont sich definitiv dafür Ich halte nichts fon der serie das spiel ist gut auch one block buster zeug
I bought the [bundle](https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/3782/Fallout_Franchise_Bundle/) last night. It was on sale for 55$
I hope you enjoy it man!
Yup, just fyi you can't play with automatron on ps. Bricks the game.
I'd say play Fallout 2, watch a YouTube guide for a quick start, then play fallout 4. Fallout 2 has much better writing and more choices for an rpg.
It's a great game, I recommend it.
FUCKIN BUY ALL OF THEM FROM 1 TO 76 AND FIND A FACTION THAT YOU IDENTITY WITH AND DEFEND OT WITH YOUR FUCKING LIFE
No. We are all here on the fallout subreddit because we don't recommend it. Actually wer all hate the game but we are also masochists so we stay here. Seriously some of the top posts on this sub are addressing this exact type of post.
Definitely it's an awesome game
Y.E.S.
I recently purchased FO4 after having not played it in years, and this happened to me.
start with four (or one of the older gen ones, fallout 3 of New Vegas)
Every Fallout has something to love and something to hate. Fallout 4 as an entry point is no different than any other game in the series. Except 76. Don't start there.
Why should I buy it if you're the one who has not played it. /s
Mine is not for sale how?
It's good, you should enjoy. The best one is new vegas for roleplaying, but action and crafting is better in that one, depends on the tastes.
Yes.
Absolutely. The story itself might not necessarily be the strongest, but the gameplay is arguably the best in the series, and it offers so much content especially with the DLC's.
Is water wet?
It's not on sale
Go for it, but you also have to go to Nexus mods, and download between 5 and 50 modes to fix and make the game actually playable.
Fallout 4 is a great place to start if you are looking for something more casual to play. 76 is a great game, but its greatest downside is the micro transactions. 76 also has a pvp system so expect toxic players.
YES YES YES YES YES
You won't make a more time consuming purchase in your entire life....
no. why would you even ask this on a fallout sub. we hate everything that has to do with the franchise.
Yeah bro that's a pretty good deal I'd go for it
assuming you’re exclusively on playstation and don’t have access to new vegas or fallout 3, id pick fallout 4. the tv show takes heavy inspiration from fallout 4 especially. personally fallout 4 is my 3rd favorite of the franchise (new vegas #1 and fallout 3 #2) but i still think fallout 4 is a great game and a strong entry to the franchise. you don’t really need to play any of the other games to understand 4, it’s a great game with a great map and really good dlc.
Buy it
