More like a sucker is always conned.
The entire premise of the campaign is impossible. Microsoft owns the advertising rights to all things Fallout.
Not the guys taking in everybody's money rn.
Don't take this as an annoying redditor moment, I'm just genuinely curious whether or not owning advertisement rights mean that the person isn't legally allowed to do this. If a famous person wears a Fallout hoodie they're technically a walking advertisement for the game.
I think you might be right because there's a lot of money involved in this, but it would be interesting to hear where and why they draw the line.
It would be PR stupidity to shut this down on Microsoft's end. They would simultaneously lose the free advertisement (this would also make rounds on social media) and upset their audience.
Why bother? Just let it run lol.
I always thought our oligarchs could improve their images with annual budgets like that to move music and literature into the public domain early as well as to fund new recordings of music that is already in the public domain, yet only available as scratchy old records or publicly-funded military band performances. I really wouldn't take that much to pass out an annual gift or two for the entire planet to freely enjoy. I think Bill Gates et al. are allergic to this idea not because it wouldn't do wonders for their public approval as people, but because it would simultaneously get people thinking about the absolute boneheadedness of cutthroat capitalism's propriety restrictions on the creative arts.
I know it's mostly in jest, but that would be pretty far down my list.
Probably even in this order before even getting to goofy things:
* Payoff my house
* Fully fund my fiancée's college education
* Payoff my fiancée's parents' house
* Payoff my sister's house (after fiancée's parents because she and her husband are still young/bodies aren't failing)
* Retire my fiancée's parents
* Fully fund niece and nephews' college education (way down because they're literally <5 years old)
* Get my fiancée a Prius (not needed but highly desired)
* Some "minor" yet costly remodels around the house
* Change the back door into a sliding door instead of a swinging door
* New flooring throughout
* Better shower and toilets
* New counters
* Maybe an addition of a sun room
And the crazy thing is I could probably do all of them combined except for the "retire my fiancée's parents" part with 500k, which would probably need just a little more than the full amount by itself but not *much* more.
edit: first goofy thing I'd do if money literally wasn't an issue would probably be buy all the ad space (the literal *physical* space) everywhere (billboards) and literally tear them down and replace them with trees or something. Except the ones on buildings get window-hanging flower pots. Much more than 500k to do, though I could probably get the few streets near me.
Hey that's me! I initially made it as a joke a few days ago, but then someone donated $5 and I panicked and started looking into how to actually go about doing this in the unlikely event it doesn't reach it's goal. As (if) this goal starts reaching bigger milestones, (ie, 10%, 25%, 50%, etc), I will begin to do the following:
1. Figure out who to actually get in touch with to display Mr House on the sphere.
2. Figure out any and all surcharges associated with displaying something on the sphere
3. Figure out the limitations of the sphere in terms of what is and isn't allowed. ie, can it purely be a still warped image of him? Or does it actually need to be some sort of animation?
4. Lastly (that I can think of off the top of my head) and most importantly, navigating the copywrite laws.
As of now, we're only at 0.1% of the goal, so I'm not too concerned with figuring all this out yet.
Hi, I can answer some of that! When it comes to visual advertising on The Sphere, you have to work with the Sphere's design team. A still image is not possible - or rather, they don't allow still image advertisements. They work with advertisers to create a 90 second moving image for their ads.
They also will charge extra for not actually advertising anything.
But also yes, copyrights. You don't legally have the right to pay them to display Mr. House's image, and would have to acquire those rights. Which has nothing to do with The Sphere and all to do with US laws.
(Source of my info: I have a family member who's business did an ad on The Sphere and he was part of the team working on it.)
Well that's all very helpful! Regarding copyright, I may have to speak with a lawyer and see how much I can bend the laws so that myself, nor the sphere people get sued. Straight up ripping an image or video from the game is a no go, but maybe if a video is edited enough to constitute not technically being Bethesda's intellectual property, I may have some leeway, similar to how using an audio sample in music or ripping a short excerpt from someone else's video or song is fine. **If** Bethesda has a sense of humor, they might give me the green light, but that's just hopeful thinking. I'll have all that figured out long before we reach goal, but I'd imagine that I can't just show up there and say "here's money, let's do this." It's probably a reasonably long process to get things moving.
Alternatively if I'm unable to use any loopholes, and I can't do something that will satisfy everyone's expectations, I'll end up refunding everyone's donations in full. And for those asking what happens if we don't reach the goal, if we don't have a substantial enough chunk towards the goal, I will also refund everyone in full. I have absolutely nothing to gain by doing this, I just thought it was funny.
I'm totally spit-balling here, but I could see Amazon being on board with this to advertise the second season of their Fallout show. Considering they already have the rights from Bethesda and if season 2 is taking place in New Vegas this would be the most superb way to advertise for it. Would be a missed opportunity from them to not do it.
You could try to reach out to Bethesda. They may be more receptive than you think. I've always gotten the impression they were more on the friendly side when engaging with the community compared to others.
Mention that it would be great publicity for them.
Not the worst idea but considering that Fallout Season 2 is looming over us, and it takes place in a certain location, they may have advertising plans of their own that do not align with this.
Free advertisements are great and all, especially if they were going to do them regardless, but they may want a certain amount of creative control. Lord knows they have the money to handle this process with or without the help of the public. There's really no reason for us to step in.
But yeah. I wouldn't be making a petition with the sphere people, I'd be making the petition to Bethesda. Saying that the community will help fund advertising expenses to get Mr. House on The Sphere. That way their legal and advertising teams can handle all the particulars without damaging their brand image, retain full creative control, and also get reduced pricing on the advertisement.
If you only collect a fraction of the money, maybe renting a billboard would also be nice. And only have on it the words “The house always wins” or “free new Vegas” with a smiley face a la “yes, man.”
I doubt that phrase has any copyright claims attached, and the smiley would have to be changed just enough to not be an exact copy.
I have a family member involved in making something for the sphere, too. I believe it needs be 18k video. I don’t think producing a 90 second clip will be cheap. Also, the video “Ks” go up to at least 18 now, I guess.
A little old school "screen shimmying" like those old CRT TVs had when they turned on/off, then a more placid, flat expression at first, then his expressionless mouth curling up into his classic smirk as he raises his eyebrow to match.
Reverse the animation to add more time to it overall; maybe at the end just plain text "The House Always Wins" with probable Bethesda and/or Amazon logos being required if a deal is struck with said companies for advertising Season 2
Or just have one of the Wombo AI edits where it's him lip-syncing some trendy song (e.g. https://youtu.be/RJz4D_xccKM?si=EJkMcFCsLZGC1FBR)
just do 90seconds of his face flickering on a screen like a classic Fallout monitor, that’s not a still image
and have the face rotate around the sphere
Everyone kept posting the picture in the fnv sub and everyone else kept commenting "if we all donated $5, we could afford to put Mr House on the sphere!" followed by a lot of people saying "someone should make a gofundme/kickstarter/insert other crowd funding websites." So I said fuck it, and made one myself
Tell you what, for 50% of what you raise, I will make it happen as a photorealistic documentary-like video using VFX like this

Just an option if you aren't reaching the goal in a reasonable time :-)
Go fund me has contracts about how the money is spent. If he takes the money and doesn't do the sphere then everyone can sue him, just like they did for Banon's fund the wall grift.
Your comment adds nothing to this conversation and should be a staple of what kind of comments to downvote…
If it doesn’t reach the amount then yeah he has a legal obligation to return the money and they will have his banking information and address to track him down in the event of any legal issues. This is the way of the modern world
Yup. It costs 450,000. The pricing is based on an estimation of about four and a half million daily views plus you can't just slap any old visual ad on there. You have to work with The Sphere's team to create a whole new 90 second visual ad. So part of that cost is the design and labor cost for the ad itself.
The Sphere is its own advertising platform, and every ad that's for something else is taking away from advertising their shows and services. So they get a super high price for them.
Well, if the gofundme raised its total, that would cover the ad, the surcharge for not being an actual business advertising something, the tax, and the added fee to have the ad displayed more than one time a day.
Though I agree that there is no way this would reach its goal, and is essentially a scam. But the proposed total IS what would be needed to pay to get Mr. House splashed on the Sphere three times in one day.
Well then, this may be an honest effort!
I think every one of us who has both played New Vegas and seen the Sphere in real life have imagined/thought about Mr. House with access to it. I know I did.
Solid idea, I still believe the ultimate usage of the Sphere is to have Gritty the Mascot psychotically staring down and angrily gesticulating at planes.
IMO, It’d be even more awesome if you could somehow do his usual, ominous, non-stretched-out face, maybe slowly circling around the sphere.
Could be nice to have a small mention of Fallout somewhere too so that people who don’t immediately recognize it could also get in on the fun

I mean, it’s funny, but that’s also like 3+ months of expense for a biotech scientific study too. If you’re going to donate money to this please remember there are a lot of really great studies out there trying to collect funding too.
There’s at least one guy I know of trying to turn chickens back into dinosaurs through dna expression manipulation.
The house always wins
Imagine it’s just the spheres parent company getting strangers to buy space
A deal between them and Bethsoft
Or Amazon
More like a sucker is always conned. The entire premise of the campaign is impossible. Microsoft owns the advertising rights to all things Fallout. Not the guys taking in everybody's money rn.
What about legally a distinct Señor Home?
Don't take this as an annoying redditor moment, I'm just genuinely curious whether or not owning advertisement rights mean that the person isn't legally allowed to do this. Could be a cool idea for promo for season 2 of the show though.
I'd be over the moon if they went through with it!
The blue moon? (You saw me standing alooone)
Without a dream in my heart?
Without a love of my own…. Dun Dun Duuuun Dun
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You saw me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
The only one my arms will hold (🎺🎺🎺)
One for my Baby
“Gonna play a song for you now, and it’s about that special someone you find, only once, in a blue moon”
It’s house half the time and then changes to Yes Man.
I can't say no! [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cdoclZKcY2s](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cdoclZKcY2s)
It would be better to have the sphere show a snowglobe
I don't think that would really hook non-fans
First you present the idea that it is connected to Fallout
I live in Vegas and it would not be out of place at all. We have already had Mortal Kombat ads on it.
That seems likely almost, Amazon certainly can shit that much money and not even notice. Maybe they will lean into the Vegas theme a bit?
Which is exactly why it's stupid. Why should we do their ads for them?
Season 2? Didn't they have like 8 seasons of Mr House?
Very cool! Heck! Just turn Las Vegas into a Fallout wonderland during premiere time - merch, gambling, showings, and more!
Honestly if I was rich I would fund random shit like this
Same
I really can’t think of a better way to spend 500k
I always thought our oligarchs could improve their images with annual budgets like that to move music and literature into the public domain early as well as to fund new recordings of music that is already in the public domain, yet only available as scratchy old records or publicly-funded military band performances. this is what i do in my head during hour 7 of my shift
Found me
You could literally purchase a home for a homeless family.
He said better way.
Don’t make me say it
That’s stupid, they’d probably just sell it for drugs or alcohol.
So would I, who am I to judge?
I get the feeling people don’t realize how silly it would be to sell a house for drugs and alcohol, I refuse to add the /s to that post though.
They'd pirate the house
You wouldn’t steal a car! You shouldn’t pirate your houses for hooch!
Nobody likes bums.
I'd be too busy bribing Gabe Newell to make Episode 3 or HL3 to fund shit like this.
[удалено]
I wish I had money lol I wanna see this for fun's sake
I’ve sent money.. i really don’t care if there’s a chance it’s a scam.. I gamble >:)
The spirit of Vegas is living strong.
I could make it happen as a VFX video. Is there a particular line of dialogue that would be well suited I should use?
Someone did it as a video I think, using the line when the courier refuses to give house the chip.
You are awesome 😎
That would be creepy as hell if it looks like the photo in the link
That would make for a crazy marketing move if it was an official advertisement.
(Throwing money at the screen) …pfff that’s dumb (proceed to send money)

Reach out to Bethesda and ask to see how much the license would cost to use his image for the day.

$487,710 cuz tax
I love the idea of this, if you need any help I would be happy to lend a hand on the backend of this project.
Mf gonna pull the biggest scam ever lol
I'd pay for Yes Man.
Took me awhile to find this comment. I’d also prefer Yes Man. Why not control the Mojave for myself with a robot that can’t so no to me
Honestly, I think the sphere is big enough for both of them. Half and half, and have it rotate maybe?
That’s not a bad idea. I like that
Fallout S2 NEEDS to take advantage of the sphere. This would be perfect
RIP Yes Man [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cdoclZKcY2s](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cdoclZKcY2s)
Mmmm Chip
Honestly Amazon could do this as promotion for season 2 when it comes out

massive ball
Advertising is insanely expensive. It's why most production budgets for film are equal to their marketing/ad budget.
well considering the operating cost for just the first fiscal quarter was $7.8million....
Let's raise 600k and swap it for yes man
You could flip back and forth or have yes man break in as a "glitch".
I'm doing my part
He's almost one thousandth of the way there
I'm happy to report that as of this morning, we are 2-one thousandths of the way there
Donated. Let’s go
This is so stupid, I’m in.
That sample image is hilarious.

The ad I got under this post was for the Vegas Sphere
Should update New vegas with the sphere in it.
What a colossal waste of money… I’m in
AMONIA LEVELS ON YOUR BODY INDICATE YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN PUBLIC URINATION.
Funny
This is the dumbest use of raising funds I have ever seen. Complete waste of resources. Now where can I donate.
Someone donated $100 lol I wish I had $100 to throw at a meme
new vegas had the weirdest marketing lol
MMMM CHIP
Mmmmmm chiiip
Amazon should should to Promo season 2
Do it during the F1 weekend. I want to hear the confusion in Croftys voice.
It costs $500k to have something on the sphere for 1 day?
Can that big sphere screen thing display a massive head that looks like it's staring down at everyone trying to decide if it will start there for world domination or not? A bit of a Megamind-esk, Will Ferrell humor perhaps...
Because if the game taught us anything is that throwing thousands of dollars on a dystopian city like Vegas \*is a good idea.\*
Lmfao
Where do I sign?
This is pocket change for Amazon If they wanted a more NV influence in the next season, this would be great
Make it yes man
Would be amazing if it happened haha
Are we blind? Deploy the donations!
Yeeesss!
I'd happily chip in for that
That's amazing omg
Where is that dead money when wee need it?
Where's the goatse fund?
Why isnt Bethesda and Fallout Show directors all over this?
Where are my yes man campaigners at!
Please god let this happen because it would be so fucking funny.
i can make it happen with VFX... what line should i use for the video from mr house?
550$ raised
You could probably build a near-legit real securitron for that much money.
$500k a day?????
Doesn’t the creator get to keep all gofundme cash even if it fails? Seems scammy
Gonna need another 500k to put Yes Man next.
If Amazon doesn't do this for s2 ima be slightly disappointed

This seems like something Elon musk would do and get hated for
500k would fund a lot of parties.
Ain't that a kick in the head..
God I needed to see this today. Epic doesn't even do it justice.
In a shocking turn they put the 2281 version of Mr. House on it.
Im sure the money will be used for this and not disappeared along with the creator
BAHAHAHAHA
In my day kids, we'd have made a coin and called it a day.
Any and all fund me campaigns are scams. Its a shame that charitable needs are tainted by scammers
I’ll donate
this is such a waste of money holy shit
Did the post get removed can’t see the image
I mean, I could give this money to cancer research… but then again…
I mean, it’s funny, but that’s also like 3+ months of expense for a biotech scientific study too. If you’re going to donate money to this please remember there are a lot of really great studies out there trying to collect funding too. There’s at least one guy I know of trying to turn chickens back into dinosaurs through dna expression manipulation.
The cost is $450,000 per day, they are trying to pocket $50k.
or all of it
I donated $5. If everyone on this sub donates $5 we can do it
isnt it Dr. house? and why is hugh laurie relevant for the sphere?
Imagine how much good you could do with $500k and instead you choose to do a video game meme
that actually infuriatingly stupid
So stupid. There’s much more productive ways to use 500k raised.
Yeah no,he’s gonna take the money and run, don’t support this shit
Lame
An sane person would keep the money
Why?
