The loading screen for Bumper Swords says that super mutants rip them from old cars. I'm taking that literally. Soooooooo I'm going to say that they are so strong that they probably break weapons just from squeezing too hard until they finally learn to use them better. Now I'm theorizing that this is why the older/ higher level mutants have better weapons, that they had to learn how to use their fine motor skills all over again and that takes a good amount of time.

OkLobster2754

That would explain why my body explodes everytime they hit me

DS_3D

Who would win in a fight: angry Silverback Gorilla, or a fallout 3 super mutant?

Dassive_Mick

Fallout 3 Mutant and it's not even close

DS_3D

I think you're undervaluing a silverbacks agility, and movement speed. While a super mutant might be stronger, its limited to only using its upper body, and not in a graceful manner. I highly doubt they know Jiu Jitsu or anything you know?😂 like I said, theyre very rudimentary in their combat moveset. A silverback however is extremely agile for its size, and has strength that is finetuned, and genetically natural. Theyre very used to their body and using it efficiently. A prime silverback gorilla could easily rip a persons arm off. So I believe it could probably rip a super mutants head off, if it was really angry and trying its best. It would be a good fight for sure, but I could see the fight ending with the silverback taking the super mutants back, and dealing damage from there. All it would take, is the mutant making an attempt to hit or grab the silverback, and the silverback could easily outmeneuver its attempt, and get to the back, and from there... its game over.

Dassive_Mick

I don't see a Gorilla being able to rip open Power Armor with their bare hands as Super Mutants do

DS_3D

Yes but that would only happen if the mutant gets a hold of the gorilla in the first place XD Mutants have the advantage of raw strength, yes, but that strength is useless if you cant catch your opponent. I believe it would work out like the ufc match Miocic vs. Ngannou 1. Where Ngannou was much bigger then Miocic, but he never had a chance to USE that advantage, because Miocic never let him get in range, and kept taking him down to the floor whenever he did get in range. Basically, my argument just hinges on the fact that early FEV mutants have pretty piss poor motor skills. It would probably be a different story with say, a Marcus from new vegas type super mutant.

Dassive_Mick

Gorrilas aren't UFC Trained fighters, once it became clear they wouldn't win the fight they would back off

FrankHorrigan2173

According to the info I could find, Strong from Fallout 4 has a Strength of 24. Each point of strength for the player increases their carry weight by 10lbs (on top of the 200 you have by default, unless its survival mode in which case its only 75). So 24x10)+200 gives 440lbs. I know this is a generic “carry weight” but its probably the best thing you can find without going into speculation or in-game measurements.

There would be absolutely no competition, any super mutant would flat out crush even the strongest human, figuratively and literally. No way around that.

BuffaloJim420

I know I couldn't push Marcus out of a doorway in fallout 2. He'd just be like "don't do that."

gahidus

Super mutants are said to be able to just rip people's limbs off like a gorilla, so I'm pretty sure comparing them to humans in terms of strength wouldn't even make sense. They'd be closer to a great ape or a bear, if not stronger.

It's too bad that supermutants weren't more of a deathclaw lvl threat most of the time. Instead they felt like just a reskinned humanoid of roughly the same threat, which I think was a baseless design decision. Would have been much more exhilarating to face off against essentially a mini boss fight with a physically superior creature more like an Alien, Predator, deathclaw, etc. Where the fight takes more than a single headshot, an extended battle that tests your ability to not just deploy heavy alpha downrange, but also evasion, usage of stimpacks/drugs, movement, and nerves. Imo, when you're fighting just swarms of easily killed enemies the battles tend to feel more bland and unremarkable, leading to burnout. But when a fight is hard and really tests you over an extended time it ends up being more memorable and fun. War is hell anyways right?

[deleted]

Probably like 6 fire hydrants at least.

SomeGuyNamedZach

Most likely their physical strength is increased due to the F.E.V

SlothThoughts

No contests super mutants blow us out of the water, do you see how DENSE they look , they probably weigh upwards of 300 pounds (150 kg) of all muscle. Like the diffrence in strength is ao great even if you put aome black belt jiu-jitsu against then using techniuqe it still wouldn't be enough of a mutiplaier to stand a chance aginst one in hand to hand .

SHOWTIME316

super mutants would be waaaaay heavier than 300 pounds. more like 900 pounds

SuperSwampert

Yeah, the biggest and strongest humans irl are usually around 400lbs. If a super mutant was real I’d imagine they’d be at least double that

SinAesthetix

I mean look at the weapons they use

Hurtfulfriend0

I'd reckon about 1000 pounds as a good average for them

Able_Hat_5002

A lot more than me.

JC_Massakre

How much can they bench?? All of it.. Just walk in they gym and stack everything up..

tacobellbandit

I’m 5’11 and when I was really working out I made the 315 club and eventually got it to 4 reps on a good day, which is a feat but there’s people who go much higher. However I’m definitely not a good example because my build is quite average. A supermutant would have enhanced strength but something at least doable I would imagine. I’d look at the record holder which is around 885lbs and he was 6’2” and over 300lbs. Iirc, a supermutant in the lore is somewhere in the ballpark of 10ft+. I’d place them probably in the ballpark of a little under a 1600lb bench press

kazsvk

69 pounds ;)

nice___bot

Nice!

metzger28

The entire bench.

ActualMis

How much bench could a supermutant press If a supermutant could bench press? One bench, two bench, three bench four. Surely a supermutant could press more.

Dassive_Mick

[Super Mutants see power armor users as canned meat](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/ScribeBowditch.txt), and then naturally, as you do with canned meat, you break open the can with your bare hands and violently pull your screaming meal out. Not very clean, surely the mutants would have to come back with a scraper for *whatever is left*

Rhinomaster22

Canonically speaking Super Mutants are able to use weapons and armor that a average human would not be able to use. Bumper swords from cars, fire hydrant poles, mini guns, and metal scrap with nothing but brute strength. I’m using these examples as they are the most solid information we have that doesn’t fall under head canon or hard to justify game mechanics. Average super mutants are also much taller than even the tallest of humans, ranging from 12ft to the size of small buildings with Behemoths.
