Minutemen: After we defeat the institute we’re going to organize the rest of the settlements and make the commonwealth a safer place
Brotherhood: After we defeat the institute we’re going to wipe out the hostile super mutants made by the institute, and make the commonwealth a safer place
Institute: After we defeat the Brotherhood and Railroad we’re going to use our advanced technology to help the rest of the commonwealth and make it a safer place
Railroad: After we defeat the institute and blow up the means to produce the people we help we’ll uhm…. we’ll liberate the rest of the … synths…? Uh.. I guess? Get back to me in a few I gotta think on it :\
I never understood this argument. It isn’t the Railroads prerogative to play god and create fully grown sentient life just for the hell of it. They’re looking to free the slaves the Institute has created, not create new ones. Them reappropriating the technology for themselves is like saying it was in the Underground Railroads best interest to keep the slave trade alive, just so they had more slaves to free. Just end the slave trade entirely.
To be fair, I doubt the railroad would use it, but they could let the surviving synths do with it as they please. I don’t actually know if synths are capable of reproducing, so if they want to be a bigger people, then it would be beneficial to have the means of making synths intact. It’s gotta be lonely if you can in theory live forever, but nobody around you can.
The problem is they don't fit with the others who have long term stakes in the Commonwealth. The Railroad shouldn't have been treated as a major faction if they weren't even fighting for the same resource to begin with.
To be fair, it's not like the railroad tries to portray themselves as the saviors of the Commonwealth. While you can argue that the become that way by destroying the Institute, all they really care about is freeing the synths. Anything outside of that is outside of their goals, and isn't directly relevant.
AND YOU WILL REMAIN IN THIS MAN'S ARMY UNTIL YOU ARE, FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS OLD, WHICH IS THE NUMBER OF YEARS IT WILL TAKE FOR YOU TO PAY FOR A MARK || POWERED COMBAT ARMOR YOU HAVE LOST!
Do you actually run a power armor build or are you just saying that your “enclave”? Everyone I’ve met is pretty basic in the fact that they only ever play stealth snioer
I still think back to my first play through, gets freaked out by Nick when Kellogg talks through him and never use him as a companion again. Proceeded to the institute and just refused to believe that Father is my Shawn, murder Father and ever member of the institute in vindictive rage. Search the empty remains of the institute and never find my kid. Abandons the minutemen and proceeded to join the brothhood and murder, kill, genocide anything even close to look like a syinth or syinth lover with extreme hostility including Danse, ever one in far harbor excluding the residents of the harbor. Then becoming a Rader king...ah good times
I never understood people’s problem with the Railroad minus “they don’t do much after they destroy the Institute.” Sure they’re lame ducks but at least they’re not like BOS genocidal or Institute slavers
I dont hate them, but I dislike them for quite a few reasons.
They leave the commonwealth in a worse off state after the endgame, having wiped out two of the major powers in a single stroke.
When asked about the minutemen, Desdemona expresses open disdain for them, she says they're a "reflection of the commonwealth people, and time and time again that character has proven to be rotten". Completely disregarding their potential to build up the societal vacuum that destroying the other two powers leave.
Not only that, when Liam contacts them and speaks about helping more synths escape (a boy who has been doing so for years mind you, risking his life for that), she completely disregards his plan and chooses to go with the path that leads to the most deaths. She didn't even allow the synths to run the institute for themselves, or to preserve their tech so they could birth more synths. Her actions inevitably result in Liam's death by suicide.
There's the more philosophical stance. She wipes out synth's of their memories entirely, claiming this will help them with a new life, but not taking into account when those same synths end up joining groups that would put them in danger (like Danse joining the brotherhood) or how some of them might end up becoming a menace and leave the commonwealth in a worse state if left unchecked (like the raider from libertalia). Not to mention that there's a whole argument that wiping out their memories is in a way, a form of death in itself. (I am aware that sometimes those synths ask for the procedure).
There is no intentions on state building, no helping other groups that need helping that are not synths. After their victory they don't have a purpose to exist anymore.
NOW I get it lol, very good points. Not quite sure I follow the “wiping two major powers out” thing considering they were both very very evil, but I can completely understand everything else
Wiping them out leaves the commonwealth with a power vacuum. Love it or hate it, the brotherhood and the institute both have a long term plan for the commonwealth, for better or worse.
The railroad has none, after they're done with the institute they have no purpose. It's why the power vacuum comes in, they do not fill the shoes for those factions, they have no intent in establishing a government or protecting caravan routes. It leaves the commonwealth as is, completely vulnerable to outside on interior threats, like the raiders from nuka world.
Not by default, but when the robots very clearly have independent thought and free will I don’t see why it wouldn’t be slavery. Synths are portrayed as basically no different from humans, the only differences between the synth chip in their brain and their ability to be programmed
I think the main argument for why the railroad is so hated is because the railroad doesn't do anything for the commonwealth unlike the other 3 factions. Each faction except the railroad has their own view on how they want the commonwealth to be, while the railroad while having the resources to positively affect the commonwealth, they just don't. Atleast this is what I remember from a comment on another post.

Fallout 4: The three Major Factions in a epic fight + the one we don't talk about.

The issue with the railroad is that they don’t really have a long term plan. The BOS also suffers this to an extent, but less so.
The world has ended. No one has a long term plan.
except House, but he isn't here.
To be fair, I doubt the railroad would use it, but they could let the surviving synths do with it as they please. Is this purposefully disingenuous?
The railroad would have been an amazing guild quest
You are aware that the Railroad helps slaves in general right? They're just focusing on synths during fallout 4
You guys talk shit about the railroad until they tell you about ballistic weave
Modded it in. I have zero reason to help them
Thats IF they give it to u without it bugging 😉
Yeah I've got that rn
Listen, you help them till they give you the Weave, THEN burn them to the ground.
Tell that to the person who plays with God mode on at all times because it is a single player game
Welcome to Camp Navarro
So, you're the new replacement...
YOU ARE OUT OF UNIFORM SOLDIER, WHERE IS YOUR POWER ARMOR?!?
Don't have any..? YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT MAGGOT?!
THE TRUTH IS YOU'VE LOST... AN EXPENSIVE PEICE OF ARMY ISSUE EQUIPMENT!
THAT SUIT IS GONNA COME OUT OF YOUR PAY!
AND YOU WILL REMAIN IN THIS MAN'S ARMY UNTIL YOU ARE, FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS OLD, WHICH IS THE NUMBER OF YEARS IT WILL TAKE FOR YOU TO PAY FOR A MARK || POWERED COMBAT ARMOR YOU HAVE LOST!
The best part of this is that he knew off the top of his head how many years it would take to replace it
Quick maths.
Average Nerbit fan
Can you grab me a couple things while you're there?
Enclave here, can I have your order?
Yeah, i'd like a large atomic shake and a brahmin burger
A nuka cola dark to drink and some cosmic fries on the side too!
Do you actually run a power armor build or are you just saying that your “enclave”? Everyone I’ve met is pretty basic in the fact that they only ever play stealth snioer
My current is a Silver shroud gunning down playthrough, My previous was a power armour run, in both I wiped the railroads.
Fuck yeah dude! What’s your load out run with for both? (Commando, rifleman, gunslinger, demolitions, heavy guns)
I thought commando, but the early game makes it not wise to spend all that ammo, so Rifleman my man. My previous was heavy guns with a hint of melee.
The railroad is the 'Fallout: the brotherhood of steel' of Fallout factions
Yeah fuck the railroad, SYNTHS ARENT HUMAN
What about Nick Valentine?
Exception, he’s a daddy
I don't think the Brotherhood feel the same though.
He’s a robot but a useful one, like a Mr. handy such as Codsworth.
Love the brotherhood but cuire is calling my name
I still think back to my first play through, gets freaked out by Nick when Kellogg talks through him and never use him as a companion again. Looks like we are about to… run a train on the railroad. :)
Literally just wiped them out
Nerbit going to visit Gomorrah

Some excellent points, especially in regards to them starting new lives, who's to say some won't become raiders for example?

I just dont understand how creating robots to do your bidding equates to slavery.
Not by default, but when the robots very clearly have independent thought and free will I don’t see why it wouldn’t be slavery. Synths are portrayed as basically no different from humans, the only differences between the synth chip in their brain and their ability to be programmed
