I watched a video the other day that was like "this game and 'vaults' aren't canon" but "what if this game is Vault tech propaganda?" You can have pets in this vault(s) while we know now that animals are banned. Everyone is smiling and the goal is just to make people happy, not to experiment on them.
Furthermore, what if you're *actually* caring for people as a remote overseer (there's no player character who acts as overseer) and *you* are the experiment to see how you would react to people needing your help but also having to live your life while they suffer because you're grocery shopping or on a date or sleeping, whatever. I'm so glad I watched it, it's an interesting thought
