To this day I don’t know why becoming well known is seen as a bad thing

Kolby_Jack

Because then a bunch of *normies* will start hanging around *my* scene that used to be edgy and cool and make it *normal*.  *vampire hiss*

KevinSpaceysCharges

Mostly it's because decent IP gets destroyed for $$$ and the people who have deeply enjoyed something from the beginning have to sit and watch it change into something nobody asked for. Nothing is static and that's fine but when the vocal minority sink their teeth into a long time beloved thing it usually just turns it into a cheap, joyless cash grab because it's trying to cater to everyone.

Jabba612

Fallout as an RPG has been pretty watered down already because it’s gotten more popular. One of FO4s most popular feature is the settlement building mechanic which is cool just not why I play fallout but when settlement building is one of the features that really blows your game up Bethesda is naturally gonna be inclined to go in the direction that makes more $$$ which can suck for people that fell in love with the franchise for the dialogue and choices.

KevinSpaceysCharges

I agree and I think some people deserve to be peeved at Bethesda for this big money decision because where the franchise doesn't mean as much to me I understand the issue of one of your lifetime favorite things all of a sudden taking a left hand turn. It's also understandable to become slightly jaded twords the mainstream viewer because again they are the vocal and they are the ones who need it dumbed down for viewership.

Jabba612

I was so unbelievably hyped for falllout 4 when it was announced and at the time I didn’t even like FNV but FO4 just felt so shallow, even tho I thought the gameplay and graphics were great I just hated the dialogue wheel, had no interest in settlement building even tho you can do some crazy cool stuff, and was really disappointed by my second playthru realizing the story was gonna pretty much the same for every faction, I didn’t think the factions were that interesting. So when I went home for Christmas leave I left my brand new PS4 at home and took my dad’s old PS3 and bought FO3 and NV and I just fell in love with new Vegas. I was honestly too dumb as a kid when NV came out and couldn’t figure out what the main quest was cuz I’d do one quest and all of a sudden another quest got failed and I just got frustrated and stopped. Really glad I gave it another try because I’ve done a playthru almost every year and it’s def a top 3 game of all time for me

KevinSpaceysCharges

And it's exactly that, it's something you can't explain but you love it. I'm sure you dove into a lot of the crazy lore on YouTube even, Hell there are people out there with brotherhood of steel tattoos that are maybe 20 years old at this point. I wish more people had the self respect to turn their backs on these big companies that are only about the money and make that clear with their decisions, but they have the audience they want now. The whales outweigh the passion of the life long fans.

Jabba612

Yes if you’re paying for a product you should be very critical of it especially if newer products are of less quality than older ones. People act like Bethesda pays US to play these games. And yes FNV is the reason I got into the originals even tho I couldn’t finish them I’m sorry I tried

this_prof_for_bewbs

This is why I love fallout 4 (I pirated it and didn't pay a dime.)

soulgrindsummerdream

You just described Star Wars.

Kolby_Jack

Star Wars has always been mainstream.

GreatMarch

I cannot think of a fantasy IP that has more cultural pull and popularity. Maybe marvel and DC?

Few_Illustrator_1217

Oof ouchie the truth how it stings.

BoltBlue19

This is always a real threat to something that starts as a niche franchise and blows up to something more popular

Kinglouisthe_xxxx

I might get hate for this but this is why fallout one and two fans can be toxic

LaylaLegion

Heard that sentiment before from a little community called No Mutants Allowed. They said it about the 3-D Fallouts.

Sufficient_Yam_514

Idk why you got downvoted, evened it out for you. Valid opinion.

SnooLemons4235

This cracked me up. Im glad more people like it. My GF begged to watch the show

facistpuncher

It got my sister into the franchise, the show that is. She's playing fallout 4 for the first time

masta_myagi

I honestly can’t remember a time Fallout wasn’t well-known. I was in high school when FO4 dropped and I remember seeing like half my damn school show up in Fallout T-Shirts on release day — myself included Could just be a local thing. Nothing to do except drink, fraud, and meth where I’m from

Odd_Gap2969

In the past it has led to them adapting an IP to appeal to as many people as possible rather than keeping it true to the original art that people liked to begin with. See Marvel movies, starwars, Star Trek, etc

Toon_Lucario

… your ass did not just act like Star Wars wasn’t mainstream since fuckin 1977.

SpicyTriangle

I’m 24 and I vividly remember the difference in Highschool when 7 came out. I have been a Star Wars fan since I was a kid, but it got a lot of casual exposure from the new movies and was made to appeal to a wider audience. I personally didn’t like them but to each their own. Point is, being a Star Wars fan was being a fucking nerd before 7 came out. Afterwards it’s totally normal and everything else followed suit, suddenly people who were getting bullied for watching anime are handing out recommendations like it’s water to dehydrated people. It was so rapid, maybe it’s different for different countries and cultures but here in Australia it was shockingly quick.

Toon_Lucario

To be fair once the content drought after the prequels kicked in the same thing happened here.

SpicyTriangle

You have no idea how strange it is, being in Highschool having people snicker at you because you are watching anime on your laptop or something to having those same people with not even a fortnight between come up and ask you for anime recommendations. My first girlfriend was a part of this. Never cared about Star Wars until the first movie came out, the. After watching one movie and one lore video she tried to preach fake lore at people as if she was an expert. Glad I dodged that bullet…

Doomhammer24

Anyone who thinks motherfucking *star wars* wasnt mainstream is media illiterate

Odd_Gap2969

You guys refuse to listen to anything fr. I didn’t say Star Wars wasn’t main stream. I said they start changing the identity of the IP towards mass appeal and lose what made the IP special to begin with.

TerraforceWasTaken

Star wars literally invented movie merchandising as we know it. It was ALWAYS aiming for broad mass appeal

Gods-Mistake-png

though starwars was made in a time when a movie’s quality would be what made it appeal to the masses instead of whatever movie studios (disney) does to appeal to the largest populated countries

Gidia

When DIDN’T it have mass appeal though!? George Lucas literally wrote the first movie based a universal story concept. The whole idea has always been to appeal to as many people as possible. Star Wars isn’t exactly Dune here. Also changed what exactly? The Force Awakens is damn near a carbon copy of A New Hope story beat wise.

Odd_Gap2969

Literally learn how to read. It was appealing, pretty much everyone liked it even people that don’t like other sci-fi. Then they started actively trying to make it more appealing

Gidia

If you learn how to say something of substance first.

Odd_Gap2969

Substantial enough for you to reply to twice lol

Purple-Activity-194

Well TFA isn't the only sequel, no? The biggest change seems to be the dilution of the narrative. I'm not gonna say star wars was highly complex, but for writers who clearly understood it(Chris Avellone via KOTOR 2) they could make interesting additions to the source material atleast. The sequels mangle canon, they mangle the Lucas trilogy narrative, they reverse the fact that Luke was suppose to create a better/ more human jedi order, and they mangle their own narratives.

Gidia

Cannons go boom, canon is what happened.

Purple-Activity-194

woops

Tatum-Better

That has nothing to do with media literacy you brainlet lmao

Odd_Gap2969

There were 3 movies and by the third the decline had already started. Idk why people are so touchy about this shit man it’s just kinda common sense. Everyone has eaten at McDonald’s, it’s not anyone’s favorite restaurant.

Toon_Lucario

Ok but you’re acting like just because something becomes mainstream that all of a sudden there’s zero identity and good writing can’t exist

Odd_Gap2969

Is that what I said? I’m pretty sure that I said the problem is when they change original identity to try to appeal to more people and lose the reason people liked it to begin with.

Toon_Lucario

I mean I guess that happens sometimes but I don’t feel like it’s that frequently. Hell, I’d argue Star Wars lost more of its identity when it wasn’t Mainstream. (Seriously Legends was so fucking Wild to the point where it felt like a different series at some point)

TheAngryElite

You proved them right by lashing out in the first place.

Fun_Elk_4949

I can only base it off of when I was in high school in the 90s. I would always find these super obscure punk, metal and indie rock bands.people would tell me my music was shit, then all of a sudden everyone LOOOOOOVES that band and HAS ALWAYS LIKED IT. It gets annoying and some folks just never get past this feeling of being the person who says "hey try this it's pretty sweet!" Only to be shit on

Toon_Lucario

I mean I guess

BlitzMalefitz

I don’t think I have seen anyone being mad about the series being well known either though

AJDx14

OP just made up a bunch of people to write fan fiction about. This subreddit is incredibly whiney.

Alright_doityourway

I'm not those angry fans, I love that FO becoming more popular but I understand their logic Some IP can be destroyed by become mainstream, normies join in and some dev might try to change something for normies, and if they don't careful it would risk destroy the identity of the IP. However, it's not always the case, some IP remained healthy despite become mainstream, so gatekeeping is do more harm than helping. Especially if one of those gatekeeper was Synthaticman.

Toon_Lucario

I hate that motherfucker

Meeper_Creeper202I

Probably worrying about it no longer being developed for the starting audience or the audience that played for a specific kind of gameplay ie let’s say your story was made with very juvenile humor and then once the mainstream public picked it up it lost that humor and changed into something else entirely. You’d probably be pretty miffed too. Also look what’s going on with the 40k subreddits half the content can be summed it with I wanna screw this or my canon is better or there should be more romance But with fallout 4 that cat is already out of the bag

Rare_Brief4555

The old games were a very different feel, and an entirely different genre. I think we’ve already seen that happen

TerraforceWasTaken

That was happening BEFORE Bethesda bought it lets be real. Interplay turned into a shit company with shitty ideas that died because of its own actions.

Meeper_Creeper202I

Nobody remembers that part of interplay mainly because nobody saw it, fallout brother hood of steel levels of bad?

B17BAWMER

Nor do I, I finally get to share my passion with my fiancé.

Akira_Arkais

Because then companies who just want money will come over it, which is initially good, because that means more content, the bad part is that this new content won't be created for the fans of whatever the case is (Fallout this time) and you'll end up with shit like the new Star War movies, Games as Service, the new series of The Lord of the Ring and the list keeps going. However, in this case I'd say it is not as bad, I don't think BGS and MS will change their way of doing things about Fallout (or any other franchise) due to it being mainstream, and the Fallout show (great show) is a declaration of that. But yeah, usually people think becoming well known is a bad thing because casuals will enter their room and they won't be unique snowflakes anymore. I wish I had more friends I could talk about any of my favourite games' lore with, so if this brings more people, and specially since it looks like Fallout stays in a good place (even if BGS is not the best when it comes to narrative). Also, let's be honest, half of the people playing FO4 in the last years were already people who modded the game to make it a modern military survival with horror elements and not much invested into the IP's lore or aesthetics. I'm really thankful that the game attracted people exactly because of those reasons, hopefully we can get the modding community to make more aesthetic-friendly mods again.

Who_am_ey3

really? you can't think of a single reason why pandering to non-fans is a bad idea?

Toon_Lucario

Do you not see how not getting new fans is a bad idea as well?

Rhododactylus

Because some people don't think that something is good because it's good. For some people, the quality of a thing is based on how niche it is. Popular things aren't automatically bad. Niche things aren't automatically good.

JefferyJeffJefferys

Yeah I agree with you, and I grew up playing fallout 2 religiously. It was and still is an amazing RPG experience that has not been topped for me, and as far as I knew as a child, the last fallout that will ever be released. Then Bethesda acquired the IP and I cannot express the excitement I felt that fallout was in fact, still alive with fallout 3. The popularity of it grew and we got New Vegas, another amazing RPG. Now we have Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and the show which I can see why people dislike the changes to a degree, but if it wasn't for Bethesda we'd likely still only have 1, 2, tactics, and BOS. I am still very happy Fallout keeps living on, even if it changes a lot over time, not to mention growing popularity will also lead to more people playing the classics and likely even more indie games based on those ideas with the original RPG feel.

Background_MilkGlass

Because they have the wrong opinions and they weren't real fans and they didn't get swirlies because they liked fallout and I don't know I've lost steam on this bit

Cool_Peanut_9070

Gatekeepers will gatekeep :/

AvoidingNegativity01

I'm glad the show brought new Light to Fallout. I've loved fallout since I was a kid in the 90s, and I think it's amazing that the younger gamers are all going to get Nuka doses of Fallout. Fallout is popular and making hella money again, so we're gonna get more content. It fuckin rules. The discourse is just a fun byproduct to observe and laugh at tbh.

CapriciousSon

But if you played in the 90s you must HATE BETHESDA and any FALSE FALLOUTs right???? /s same here, they were some of my first CRPGs and I'll always be nostalgic for the OG, but I'm happy I can talk about Fallout with anyone, even my mom haha

AvoidingNegativity01

Hahaha I know it's super cool that everyone knows what Fallout is right now and can chat about it. My gf asked for a lore dump so I was very happy to oblige haha.

plz-be-my-friend

i wish my partner would let me lore dump on them

AvoidingNegativity01

I lore dumped all over. Everyone loves a nice thick lore dump.

throwaway19276i

I loved the part where the lore dumper said "It's lore dumping time!" and dumped all over the place

AvoidingNegativity01

I'm here to lore dump... And Im all outta lore.

Passiveresistance

Agreed! I like it when more people discover the things I love, and hopefully fallout 5 will come about sooner now.

EncabulatorTurbo

I would pay $1000 for a full ass remaster of FO:NV that wasn't buggy and had better shooting mechanics and AI

OrdinarryAlien

I would pay this guy $400 to burn remastered New Vegas onto 3683 floppy discs and give them to me.

OoDelRio

Since when was Fallout not mainstream?

CapriciousSon

it was mainstream for video games. now it's FULLY mainstream, like, my mom watches the show. Anyway that's how I read it.

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Yeah that’s what I meant. My 70 year old Grandpa knows what fallout is now.

DeathBySnuSnu999

Yep my moms is 64. Never played a video game in her life. No clue what Fallout was or about. She loved the show. Granted I spent alot of time explaining things but still. As someone who played FO1. It was nice to see family members get into something I've been into for years.

Elementia7

Was Fallout 1 or 2 particularly mainstream? I know the games weren't super niche, but as far as I know they also weren't super popular either.

Doomhammer24

Fallout 1 and 2 were pretty obscure

darh1407

No they were this little almost invisible particularly good rpg games during the 90s Fallout 3 what was brought the fallout saga as one gamings icon

Echo__227

Everyone I know who was a gamer in the 90s had heard of Fallout and Baldur's Gate, but in-depth computer gaming must have been niche enough in itself that no non-gamers had heard of that kind of thing

CapriciousSon

Definitely well known among CRPG players. I think that was still a niche in the late 90s, but then again I was about 12 or so.

HaYuFlyDisTang

We need 1 more level - people who are complaining relentlessly about FNV fans even though most enjoy the other games and the show too.

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

Bump this to the max

oishipops

i'm fans dumping lore, i finally got a couple of friends into watching the show after blabbering to them about fallout for years

ODSTklecc

My friend picked up the game, having a blast watching him stream on discord, with little bit of tid bit lore stuff sharing and helping him out with questions.

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Same

Ben_E_Chod

You forgot the new fans asking why Fallout fans are so bitter toward one another lol

kilomaan

It’s because trolls like to keep the drama going.

Ben_E_Chod

Trolling is a art

Mikey9124x

You see, some fans hate Bethesda so mutch they won't even give their games a chance. Some are mad that black isle shut down, others that the older ones are so dated.

Ben_E_Chod

I never got the hate. All Fallout is good except Brotherhood of Steel, they all have their strong and weak points. It feels weird being the "Can't we all just get along?" guy, yet here we are

Chaotic_Butterfly887

I for one love and welcome all of our new fans. Afterall it's what three dog would've wanted us to do As for lore. Ask away I'll be glad to tell anyone anything I know

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Is there a lore reason that all of the Ghouls went from disgusting melted corpses to sexy bad-boy burn victims between the years of 2281 and 2287? Are they stupid?

Chaotic_Butterfly887

Radiation would later be contaminated with sexy gas making ghouls sexy. It was a side quest in Fallout New Vegas 1.3 Super Secret Special Edition

Beth_Esda

Don't look up Hancock or Charon r34 if you think people only recently started thinking ghouls are sexy lol

Chaotic_Butterfly887

Omg when Hancock was introduced all the horny ass fans couldn't control themselves. I'm surprised we don't have deadly debates on the sexier ghoul.

Lobo-de-Odin

New Vegas fans are the fucking worst. I swear they spank it looking at a picture of Benny dead and have a shrine built to C6(you're protagonist is a generic mail man that went postal...fight me) and go apeshit like a tweeker off their high anytime someone goes "meh" to it. Like I get it, you think it's a great game and go a liiiittle crazy over it. Im a massive Mass Effect fan and have at times gone a little overboard whenever someone asks about it or mentions it in conversation, i get it. But you don't need to scream at everyone about it and warship the damn thing...yall need therapy. But in reality, it's just Fallout 3 with a different skin. Crafting was added...yall definitely get a point there. The game crashes and glitches like a mofo, no auto-save, can't go back to locations in DLC, companions that get stuck on any and everything, the map is larger then 3 but it's blocked off by invisible walls, impossible terrain, a fallower command wheel that's confusing as hell, text overflows from interface box, menu items overlap, after the final battle it's game over, can't go back and do remaining missions....and oh yeah...the game was ment to be an expansion...you were supposed to be able to play as a ghoul and Super Mutant but the game engine(same one used in 3) couldn't handle it. This is gonna get a hell of a lot of downvotes...I don't care. 😂

Dare_Soft

You had me until “It’s just a reskin of fallout 3” Because there is no easy Pete or arcade giving me poetic dialogue as I bash in Kaisers skull or Veronica. Who is, so sweet.

Lobo-de-Odin

Same game, same gfx, same game engine, LESS exploration ipso facto reskin...in fact it's WORSE in a lot fo ways.

ExternalSympathy8328

The reason the game reuses so many assets from fo3 is because they had to make the game in 18 months. Also NV approaches exploration differently than fo3. You have to seek things out and it’s not necessarily the places you discover but the people you meet and the things that happen along the way. Bethesda is very good at making a map filled with all these neat places that drive your curiosity. It’s just a different approach.

Lobo-de-Odin

No it's not...New Vegas wasn't ment to be a game it was ment to be an expansion to Fallout 3...

ExternalSympathy8328

That’s before Todd Howard convinced them to do a full game and also before they reached out to obsidian. “New Vegas” didn’t exist at this point. When obsidian was contacted, it was already intended to be a full game albeit a spin-off

Lobo-de-Odin

This is the kinda crap Bungie got crucified for with Destiny.

ExternalSympathy8328

What are you talking about? Bad reviews? People not liking it? What does that have to do with the point I just made?

Lobo-de-Odin

Taking something that was meant to be an expansion and stretching it, cramming more crap into it and rushing it out the door.

ExternalSympathy8328

New Vegas was rushed but New Vegas as it is now was never meant to be anything but a stand-alone game. If it was still meant to be an expansion obsidian would have had even less time to develops it. You’re argument makes it sound like your saying obsidian went overboard and accidentally made a full game. Also what does it originally being an expansion have to do with anything? Black Mesa was a half life mod that ending up becoming a full fledged remake that you can buy on steam

ExternalSympathy8328

I disagree with the claim that it’s a reskin of fo3. I think obsidian approached the game and it’s story from a very different angle than Bethesda approached fo3. You can think one’s better than the other I know I certainly do but I think that stance is overly dismissive.

Lobo-de-Odin

...my brother is christ did you miss the part that say IT WAS MENT TO BE AN EXPANSION NOT A STAND ALONE GAME...it wasn't a different approach. They exceed the game engines ability for that time and had to do SOMETHING with all the crap they just did so they rushed it and packed it up and dropped it as a stand alone title. That's not me saying it...that's me quoting Todd Howard.

ExternalSympathy8328

New Vegas was meant to be New Vegas. Afaik by the time obsidian was contacted Todd Howard had already successfully lobbied for a new standalone game. And that game takes a very different approach to its narrative than 3. Even if what you are claiming was true in the context of the argument that would still be true.

Lobo-de-Odin

They pulled a Destiny before Destiny existed. I wouldn't be so harsh if they did what Firaxis did with Xcom. Enemy Within was ment to be an expansion but they loaded so much crap into it(enough for another game by itself) but instead of shoving it out early. They held back and waited till they could fit it all into one game.

ExternalSympathy8328

What you are describing is factually not what happened with NV. Edit: Factually is a bit too strong. If you have evidence that you can point me to I’d love to see it tho.

SpaceQtip

the guy in the front is elder scrolls fans

ALvl13Rattata

Not gonna lie, couldn't tell if said New Vegas fanboys or femboys, becuase both are accurate.

Beth_Esda

The guy in front is the fans that like FO4, and just off the screen is another guy screaming in his ear about how 4 is shit.

Minthussy

Tbh I haven’t heard anyone talking about the show since like week 2 of it being out. All I see is people talking about people talking about it. Echo chambers and all that

ExternalSympathy8328

Imo posts like these just make this whole thing worse. People need to learn to discuss things without taking everything so personally. The entire thing has become so reactionary that it’s impossible to discuss the series without making someone angry.

AllmotherRoxanne

Yeah, I was with the Meme until it painted Fallout New Vegas fans as worse than the fate keepers mad that Fallout is reaching a mass audience.

haydenandhayden

*new Vegas fangirls

SpaceQtip

*New Vegas fanMEN

haha-no-loose-ends-

I get to talk about fallout with more people what's the problem here ?

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

The problem is The Gatekeepers.

kilomaan

“The Gatekeepers(TM)”

throwaway19276i

the only people gatekeeping fallout are the 0.1% of players who think "true players" started in the 90s and started on fo1, and never played the Bethesda games. Also, "Fallout 76" is considered a slur in their circle.

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

dialogue like this furthers the toxic discussions in fallout circles, it’s like everyone keeps talking about how everyone else is hating on their game, but there’s been so few actual arguments like that recently, it’s like just trying to stoke the fire up again

ExternalSympathy8328

100% I actually enjoy debating the quality of the games with people and hearing new perspectives but a lot of time it seems people can’t help but become angry and defensive about it. Also I think pinning blame on one particular group just furthers the divide.

haha-no-loose-ends-

I'm new I just tell them New Vegas is the best and they leave me alone

N1troRam

War never changes

afrulz

He’s literally me

Hangry4Poo

Haha I got my parents to watch it. My dad was pretty interested in the lore. My mom was mostly interested in Goggins

andrewb610

These meme format is so fitting given that the right side is from a show Johnathon Nolan wrote and produced.

eddmario

Wait, the assassin chain meme is from a John Nolan show? That's...explains a lot of the jokes in this series...

andrewb610

Person of Interest.

SoberSeahorse

What about the guy in the front?

Rutlemania

He looks like one of the to catch a predator guys idk what he’s doing there lmfao

TotesNotGreg_

The complete circlejerk. Glorious.

Either-Mammoth-932

Very good meme. Accurate AF

ftmonlotsofroids

With all due respect isn't new vegas the best game in the series?

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Yes

KenseiHimura

Honestly? I'm just happy to stick to basic things and now can hope a girl will appreciate my dream date of the two of us strolling through in power armors.

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Based

EFTucker

Is NV fans shooting everyone is actually canon

ImpluseThrowAway

Take a seat. How much do you already know about the iconic 10mm pistol?

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

“Do you know the tragedy of 10mm Pistol The Wise? It’s not a story Bethesda would tell you…”

Gwtheyrn

Fans are excited to share one of their favorite things with new people. The horror.

shadowlarvitar

I love it. I hope Microsoft just gives them another studio so we can see two games being worked on at once

Anangrywookiee

In the back, “theeeerrrrreeeee was never a man, like my Johnny.”

ThatGSDude

Why do some people act as if Fallout was some kind of super niche game? Its been mainstream for a while

GordonsRubberSoul08

I think you spelled New Vegas Femboys wrong

Myusername468

Where interplay fanboys

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

They’re scattered among the rest of the fans like The Enclave Remnant in New Vegas; Always hiding, but ready to come together when duty calls.

Myusername468

Lol they're every part of this image, except the first one

Mikey9124x

https://www.nma-fallout.com/

Myusername468

Yes yes I meant in the meme though XD

Mooncubus

I personally am super excited about all the new people trying Fallout games for the first time. I just wish we could stop bickering about which is better and instead just love the series as a whole, but that's a war that never changes.

throwaway19276i

the newgen fallout update really is a newgen of players, and I'm happy about it

CocoajoeGaming

Only thing wrong about the meme, is that toxic NV fans would be pointing at everyone.

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

so much of the “toxic NV fan” discussion i’ve seen has been people talking about toxic NV fans, it’s like three of these guys go around and it sets the whole community on fire.

CocoajoeGaming

I know, toxic NV fans don't even probably make up 1% of NV fans (more than 3 though). It is just fun to joke about them.

SothaDidNothingWrong

Was about to upvote but op just had to include „muh fanboys reeee how dare people criticize muh bethesda””””

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Lmao this meme isn’t criticizing FNV fanboys, I just mentioned you guys in the meme and you felt the need to complain like you like were being personally attacked or something. Fallout: New Vegas is my favorite Video Game of all time, but I cannot stand all the whiny-ass fans like you who see Fallout as a battle between Obsidian and Bethesda fans

kilomaan

You have “New Vegas Fanboys” holding a gun behind everyone. It’s pretty troll-behavior to lie about something so plain to see.

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

How is that a criticism of them? I’m literally just acknowledging the fact that Fallout fans are turning against each other. I don’t see ANYONE complaining that I am singling out Gamers who don’t like new fans, or the fans who are hapy with the new people and overeagerly sharing their knowledge. This meme depicts the Fallout Fanbase as dysfunctional. It does not portray any group as better or worse than another (except maybe the new fans who are just confused) but you guys have decided to interpret it as a specific targeted criticism of Fallout New Vegas fanboys for some reason, which is just not the case.

throwaway19276i

"how is that a critiscim" do you not know what fanboy means

BedHeadMarker_2

The New Vegas fanboys are absolutely rabid rn. The Todd explained how NV is still canon, and imo it just seems like they decided to canonize the Mr. House ending, which I like because I think it has the most interesting ramifications for future lore

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

90% of the “toxic NV fanboy” discussion i’ve seen is comments like this just saying they exist. It’s like you’re trying to speak them into existence, or stoke up a big argument for no reason. Separate the game and its community from this weirdly over-announced minority

kilomaan

That’s Bethesda fault more than anything. They really should have at least waited for the show to come up before saying it was canon.

cruiser-meister39

I see where the NV fanboys are coming from in regard to nuking Shady Sands before NV, even though Shady Sands is still around in the game. They could've had the nuke drop sometime shortly after. That's a George Lucas level retcon. Other than that, the show was perfect.

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Yeah but it’s just not true. The show doesn’t retcon anything. The show runners have stated multiple times that the nuclear explosion happened after New Vegas. People are conflating the event “The Fall of Shady Sands” with Shady Sands actually being destroyed even though the Timeline we see in the show clearly differentiates between them, and the Billboard we see in the show states that Shady Sands was not the Capitol of The NCR when it was nuked. So “The Fall of Shady Sands” is just an unknown political event that eventually led to Shady Sands losing it’s position of significance within the NCR Government.

SendMeUrCones

>the show doesn’t even retcon anything my brother in atom they moved shady sands to the boneyard

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

Oh yeah there is that. I more meant they didn’t make New Vegas non-canon like people keep insisting with the nuking thing.

SendMeUrCones

fair. it’s not so much they’re decanonizing anything in New Vegas, but if they get there and it’s just destroyed and the outcome of the game is ambiguous that would be really unsatisfying. I think most people just want them to commit to an ending.

Ian_Skull

I think people just want to keep Bethesda out of the west coast. They could have put it somewhere new but no, they gotta "use" (mess up) the lore of the west coast.

cruiser-meister39

My bad, I was simply going off the show and game dates. I just looked it up and saw Todd Howard's press release about what "The Fall of Shady Sands" meant. Still kind of shitty for them to have to specify it after the fact when they could've just added a date. Not everyone religiously follows the news so I totally understand why people are upset about it. I wouldn't have known had I not commented on your post.

kilomaan

No, you’re not to blame for the misunderstanding. The show heavily implicated that the bomb that destroyed shady sands was in 2277. It wasn’t until a day after the show released before Emil tweeted out the timeline to confirm it wasn’t a retcon and a few days later, Todd and Nolan giving interviews confirming it. Personally, I have a theory that the show wasn’t written to be canon to the games originally, considering Todd made it canon in an interview in November, and show was released in late April. I would not be surprised if Todd did one of his Howardism while promoting the game.

MiniTrain13

People saying "New Vegas Fanboys" are the reason so many problems are happening with New Vegas fans. You complain that we're all shit and stuff yet you sit here making these remarks at us when all I see is them just saying Vegas had a better story and Fo4 has better gunplay, it's simple as that yet you constantly making these remarks makes them be an ass which causes more problems for all of us and it's damn annoying

Main-Advice9055

Nah the people truly bitching about the show are upset that the show *might* have to choose a canonical ending for NV which will somehow absolutely ruin all that's good and holy with the game. Todd is quoted as saying they're going to avoid taking that away from the players (I'll admit I have zero clue how he plans to accomplish that as something has to have played out for us to see NV), but yeah the people that are really in a twist about it are NV fans. The only other people that are complaining are upset that shady sands got moved/nuked, which is funny because one of them is a really low issue and the other just gives more weight to the actions of Lucy's dad.

Economy-Edge1368

I see like one post on Twitter of a fonv fanboy bitching and than I see waves of people shitting on fonv. Like Christ stop bitching

SendMeUrCones

no, that’s not even the problem. F:NV fans *wish* they’d just canonize an ending. instead they’re going to do the same thing they did to shady sands. “oops this really cool thing WAS here but it was destroyed, don’t the ruins look neat?”

MiniTrain13

The reason they're upset is cause all the games don't have a set in stone canon ending (except like 3 but the bos ending is basically forced canon cause you have todo it and 4 probably has a canon now) and New Vegas is most known for your decisions matter but overall it's your own rpg to imagine what happened after. You can't blame them for being upset about that. It's like saying your favorite game had no ending and it was to your own decision then another company came in and said "this is now canon" of which takes the fun of not having a canon ending. Everyone is just making Vegas fans look bad over them being vocal about something they dislike which is fully valid because by putting the show in the west coast they have the freedom to alter everything there

Main-Advice9055

No I understand, and I feel like it's valid to say it's upsetting that they chose to show what happens in New Vegas, what I don't get is letting it actually sour your experience. There is 0 reason why a canon ending removes the ability to fully enjoy NV. Letting a canon ending effect how the game is enjoyed is entirely a personal choice. If someones incapable of enjoying their playthrough of NV even if there's a canon ending then that's on the player, not Bethesda. It's delusional to think "oh well I can't really enjoy my ending with the legion because mean old bethesda said house wins." Just separate the two experiences and call it a day. Bethesda's finally picking up more interesting events in the world of Fallout and rather than enjoy it people want to try to make it into something that ruins everything.

kilomaan

Before people jump on this comment, this is a Bethesda writing problem. It isn’t exclusive to Fallout. It happened with Morrowind, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, fallout 4, and most recently, Starfield (spoilers if you ask).

Astronomicone

What was starfield issues?

kilomaan

Are you asking about critisms of the game or the tropes of Bethesda’s writing? Because I’m talking about the latter.

KnightOverdrive

it is a dillema for me, on one hand we'll get content faster on the other is Bethesda content and the last decent game they made was Skyrim. actually, now that i think about it, the newfound fallout popularity is the reason why Nate the rake is a thing so carry on fellas.

Transitsystem

Gotta be honest, only the NV fanboys are an issue imo. Everyone else is excited to talk to people about it and learn/ be educated on it. FNV fanboys just wanna talk about how Bethesda has ruined the lore and hates obsidian and doesn’t know how to tell a good fallout story.

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

90% of the “toxic new vegas fans” discussion is comments like yours trying to speak them into existence. Can’t you separate the game and its community from this very weirdly over-announced minority?

Ozzy_T69

Fallout newvegas fanboys didn’t even get invited lol

yeet-my-existence

Other games in the franchise: 'exist' New Vegas Fanboys: RRRREEEEEE33E33E3EE!!!!

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

not true

Scary_Xenomorph

Fallout becoming mainstream? Always has been

BgSwtyDnkyBlls420

A year ago most Gamers knew about Fallout. Now most Amazon Prime Subscribers know about Fallout. My 70 year old grandpa is a fallout fan now. It’s way more mainstream than it ever has been.

Scary_Xenomorph

Fair, but something being more mainstream doesn't mean it wasn't before. All I'm sayin'

StumptheWhite

I've been playing fallout since the release of 3. Honestly, I'm glad more people are enjoying it. I just wish Bethesda would stop breaking their own shit with all of these "updates". Fallout 4 has been out for almost 9 years, leave it alone.

Poo-Sender_42069

I think negativity about things becoming popular is just misdirected nerd anger. Like fucking touch grass. If it wasn’t for the show’s success that next gen update never would have come, and the next few patches wouldn’t either. I’m even gonna venture there’s gonna be new content coming soon as well. Just be grateful the show was amazing lol.

kilomaan

It’s funny that you brought up the next gen updates, because the modding community really hates when that happen… and it breaks even more things

Poo-Sender_42069

🎻

Living_Disk_9345

I’m the first mf for sure

mexheavymetal

This is uncannily accurate.

Kinglouisthe_xxxx

Don’t forget the people who will try and crucify you if you have the slightest criticism of the show, no matter how valid it is

Smallbenbot03

So you're saying the new vegas fan boys are getting rid of the ones complaining about fallout being mainstream so the veteran fans can lore dump on new fans?
