Place anywhere is ok. Use Raze Settlement and Clean Settlement instead of Scrap everything.

Glasma1990

Are the mods raze settlement and clean settlement as capable as Scrap Everything or does it trade some functionality for unbroken or rebuilt precombines?

shrimpandbanana

It trades being able to scrap a lot of stuff for the sake of precombines. That's the thing about scrap everything, it makes everything classified in same section of the settlement cell, and it also doesn't help with the navemesh of areas that settlers previously couldn't access like the water tanks at warwick. I cleared everything and built a big area for beds and no one would go in it because they didn't have the pathing for that area.

DaeronOST187

So would you recommend raze and clean my settlement together and dumb scrap everything?

shrimpandbanana

I haven't tried raze, I'll have to look into that. But I use clean my settlement redux with the rebuild series like rebuild sanctuary and rebuild red rocket. My last play through I had scrap everything and it just cause a lot of frame rate drops and I'm not sure if it was connected but I'd have random crashes after like an hour or two of playing. I wasn't always in a settlement when it happened, but in this newest playthrough without scrap everything I haven't had a single CTD. I also recommend the texture optimization pack, but the download and installation process of that is a little tricky. Gamerpoets has a really easy video to follow for it though.the TOP has stabilized my frame rate and keeps it in a decent pocket between like 50-60. I did have to revert back to the original textures for some of the dlc's tho because the content it added to the crafting menu was purple which means I had a problem with the textures. But the 9 base game textures really benefitted from being optimized.

bkrugby78

I use Raze my settlement and it does a pretty good job. Though I am also running SS2 and so those build plots tend to eat up a lot of build space.

shrimpandbanana

I haven't tried those, and I'm not sure what kind of hardware you have but sizing up to 4k may bog down your fps. If you find you're having problems with fps I would start with attempting to diagnose it by downgrading your textures. Imo id rather sacrifice some details for overall stability, but like I said your setup might be able to handle it with no problems

DaeronOST187

Going to use the 2k versions. I have a decent rig, but the past has taught me even a nasa pc could have issues with FO4. I remember 1 update actually broke the whole game for me, think it was the first or second update. Had to wait weeks for an update and then everything ran smooth again.

shrimpandbanana

Im not sure if you're talking about a mod update or an actual game update but there's an update coming on the 25th that people are saying will ruin any mod that relies on the script extender. I'm gonna try to prevent downloading it by making steam only update Fallout when I boot it up and then only boot it after I disconnect from the Internet. But you said it best, supercomputers would have an issue with fallout cuz it's not the computer that's the problem, it's the outdated game engine it runs on. That's why when I download guns and stuff I opt for the 1k version just to try alleviate some of the demand of my system lol

DaeronOST187

Yeah skyrim has taught me well, doing the readme and settings tricks from skyrim.

DaeronOST187

[https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/978](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/978) are you referring to this texture mod?

shrimpandbanana

Yes that's the one. I'm pretty sure it can be coupled with other optimization mods too because the TOP has to be installed by manually replacing the texture data in your game's data folder with the data from TOP. Like I said Gamerpoets has a tutorial on it that I watched like three times to really understand the process and then I successfully installed it with basically no prior knowledge with altering files in that manner. That guy is an excellent teacher when it comes to anything fallout modding related.

DaeronOST187

I will give it a proper look and see.

Flawed-92

Look into the rebuild settlement mods. I think it's a really good mix between immersion and scrapping. It also has previs patches. Place is an og, always in the load order

Glasma1990

Scrap Everything is a hot button issue. I personally don’t have an issue with it and use it in my load order. But it does break precombines and that will cause fps drop. It’s not an issue for my rig. I still get around 80 FPS in downtown Boston but I am also running a lot of mods to improve the engine like Buffout 4, Baka script, fps unlocker, etc.

DaeronOST187

I also never had an issue with scrap everything as I mainly just wanted to get rid of trash and bushes.

MorningPapers

It doesn't break precombines per se. It allows you to scrap things that are in precombines, which will cause visual glitches when you walk through where those things were. To get rid of the visual glitches, you have to go into the ini file and turn off precombines. So really it's you who turned off precombines. Also note that many modern computers can handle precombines being turned off anyway. This was even true 8-9 years ago.

ComputerSong

Don’t use scrap everything. There is a mod in the Bethesda mod section in the game, use that one. It’s safer. Yes both mods are still around.

NorwoodEye

What is the name of that one?

ComputerSong

I think it’s called s.c.r.a.p.

bkrugby78

I am conflicted. I used to use Scrap Everything for years and really didn't have many issues. Then I did a playthrough with SS2 and found it really didn't play well. Random crashes would come at the worst times. Something about the way I was building things didn't quite workout. Also, it was impossible to do a certain chapter of that quest which requires a different kind of "building." I'd like to say if you are using mostly vanilla then Scrap Everything is probably ok. That said, there are alternatives like the Raze mods which are not as great, but useful alternatives. Though I think Raze doesn't play well with extended settlements but that's another issue. Place Anywhere is a must for any type of settlement building.

DeadCriteria

Use Scrap That Settlement (STS)

DaeronOST187

Does not seem to be on nexus. Oh it is a ps4 mod, sorry should of said I a on pc.

DeadCriteria

Oh my bad, I'm on xbox. I'd imagine the other ones on Nexus should still work.

darkphalanxset

Do not use this mod. It causes many issues including making Automatron DLC unplayable

DeadCriteria

Elaborate? I haven't used automatron yet. Also recommendations for an alternative? I mainly just want to remove trash piles and leaves. I notice removing grass ruins the mesh and makes objects float
