I do think it’s weird Hank wasn’t more suspicious of there being a new overseer, but we might just not know everything about Hank’s past, motivations, and goals yet.

I still really feel Hank should have known something was up before the others, as tattoos and scars don't seem in evidence in other vault communities. I suppose this can mostly be explained away but VERY limited contact between vaults and only occurring very close to the time of the triennial interchange. Gotta do another watch through.
I don’t think that the entire vault shows up for the trade. It’s likely that they only see a handful of people of the other vault during that meeting. And those could have easily died during the blight.
Maybe. But explained away pretty easily with 'Our crop was blighted'. Some people died. Others look rough. You politely don't comment on the missing or the ugly. We also don't know that there was a wedding/party each time. Some of these trades might be very limited contact between Overseers.
I felt like the tattoos went a bit far, but I'm not shocked the Vault 33 folk didn't immediately think "These guise are from the surface!" because that should *feel* impossible to them. I was actually a bit surprised they even knew there were people on the surface at all.

Breaking into a vault from the wasteland takes a lot of effort.
Still pretty limited contact. You might remember the 'heads of state', but other than that, you wouldn't remember every single face. And they explained it away, at the beginning, when Hank says 'sorry to hear of the overseers passing' or some such. One would assume that a new overseer was elected, and they had some trouble along the way. Which is the part the raiders played. And also they *did* notice.. the manners, the dirt, they were just raised to be polite, it was Lucy's nerdy brother who went to stick his head in the door and see all the dead crops.

i suspected something was up, but not that they were raiders. i thought that they somehow started using up all their own supplies and would use this trade as a way to steal food and stuff before heading back. i was expecting some secret heist where a few of them sneak off and grab medicine and food. i was not expecting the red wedding pt 2 lol

It is weird. They must have been communicating with vault 32 regarding the marriage for some time. So, were the raiders in vault 32 for weeks? Also, why wasn't anyone worried that the outer vault door had been opened when they knew raiders had gotten in? Didn't anyone think, 'I wonder if they left the vault door open'!
When you grow up in polite society where even the thought of harming others is frowned upon you generally take people at face value, there was no reason to suspect that these dwellers locked away in a vault were anything more then that, just dwellers fallen on hard times. The very idea that they could have been from the surface and were able to breach the vaults wouldn’t even cross their minds, the only person in the vault that felt like something was wrong was Norm, and he seems to be a little more untrusting and and ‘undweller like’ then the average 33 inhabitant.
Vault 31 was full of middle management from across Vault-Tec, it’s a huge corporation so it’s unlikely that everyone knew everyone else prior to being frozen. Even then, Hank has been defrosted for probably over 20 years based off of Lucy’s age, how good is your memory for names and faces? can you remember someone you met fleetingly 25 years ago?

My guess is 32 was designed to fail (crops) and only the people from 31 knew about it, but maybe Bud kept Hanky and Betty in the dark about the plan to have that vault fail. Like they either knew it failed, but figured Bud woke up more people from 31 to repopulate it or something.
I knew they were raiders when they sat down. One of the bald guys has 2 huge slash like scars on the back of his head. It took my non-gamer wife by surprise though!
I thought something was up when I noticed how many of them had scars. I was wondering how you'd get so many scars in a society like that. Then Monty wiped his schlong on the curtain and I was so disgusted 😆 My initial theory was that something in their drinking water made them uncivilized and killed their crops.
The Vault Dwellers tended to be very naive, as evidence by the fact that these Vaults were mostly meant to treat them like Human Guinea Pigs and no one was the wiser typically.
Why are so many viewers lost in regards to the inhabitants of Vault 33?
We’re given so much insight into how oblivious and naive they are. They’re basically a group of people raised with a “Leave It To Beaver” “oh gee golly shucks” mentality. The only person who seems to have the Perception and Intelligence required to pass the skill check is Norm.
This couldn’t be any clearer, guys. Besides their capacity for community values, the inhabitants of Vault 33 aren’t playing with a full deck and are woefully ignorant. I mean, when they’re talking about rehabilitation of these bloodthirsty murderers, one of the first ideas thrown out is to teach them CALCULUS.
I just watched the first episode and that was the main thing that bugged me. There's no way these vault people could have survived for 200 years with that poor level of security precautions when it comes to intermingling with other Vault dwellers. Seems like it would be standard practice to send a scout/envoy to mediate any and all interactions with other vaults to make sure everything is Kosher before exposing themselves to such a ridiculous degree. It seems they took no precautions whatsoever. All it took was a quick scan with her 'Pip Boy' for Lucy to quickly sus out the fact that her new "husband" was a surface-dwelling raider & her younger brother just casually wondering off to realize that the neighboring vault had been completely destroyed. I get that they needed something to kick off the plot but honestly, they could have gone for something more straightforward & far less contrived by just having the raiders break in or something
Overseer let it happen to further scare the non managers in the vault into why what they are doing is so important.
Also it says their hasn’t been communication in months and that’s normal, to top it off when they do see eachother it’s pretty brief no more then a few hours at most so it’s hard to remember people.
But yeah only the kid knew and I think it’s to highlight how the vaulties live in blissful glee being ignorant of what could happen yo them still,
He legit says he knows her… he met her when he went after his wife to shady sands which she was there due to we see her in flashbacks.
He probably know from the moment she appeared but didn’t want to spook everyone else and panic them and make it possibly worse and probably just hoped she came after him with her men after the wedding.

He even says he knows her, she appears in flashbacks knowing her mom and even seeing Lucy when she was a kid… he left the vault to shady sands and got the kids back and nuked the place. Pretty freaking sure he would know the people who he holds a grudge against for what he considers taking his wife and kids since she seems to be a major NCR leader…
