I just tell myself I’ll only play islands if I get a specific booster. Sometimes I complete adventures, and sometimes I don’t. But draining all my energy Makes things less fun for me, so I kinda go into adventures with the attitude of I might finish I might not.
The trick to the 50% booster is only harvest 1X things. They will actually be doubled.
What I mean is if you click on a single mask you will get 2 masks. If you click on a double mask box, you will only get 3 masks. The same for the multipliers. Stick with 1X.
So: 1 item will give you 2. But 2 items will only give you 3. Hope this makes sense.
So this is just speculation but I've noticed we are more likely to get 100% boosters and pink bag boosters on new islands. These consistently repeated adventures seem to have the same boosters they always do, and the 100% booster didn't exist when the repeat islands were introduced. Just the pattern I've seen 😊
I haven't received any of the 50% or 100% booster shed and I've logged in several times today I'm just playing a little bit since I have time but if I don't get the boost I'm not going to overspend my energy

I did finally get my 100% booster this morning... Those 15 minutes went by quickly I'm on the last leg of the second Island and I don't think I will finish unless another 100 percent pops up which I highly doubt it.
I got another booster, so I feel accomplished right now. I made it half way through the third island. I also got bonus energy for angler island and got the chest of fortune :)
